1. രാജാവു അബ്ശാലോമിനെച്ചൊല്ലി ദുഃഖിച്ചുകരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യോവാബ് കേട്ടു.

1. And Joab was told, 'Behold, the king is weeping and mourning for Absalom.'

2. എന്നാല് രാജാവു തന്റെ മകനെക്കുറിച്ചു വ്യസനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ആ ദിവസം ജനം കേട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അന്നത്തേ ജയം ജനത്തിന്നൊക്കെയും ദുഃഖമായ്തീര്ന്നു.

2. So the victory that day was [turned] into mourning for all the people. For the people heard it said that day, 'The king is grieved for his son.'

3. ആകയാല് യുദ്ധത്തില് തോറ്റിട്ടു നാണിച്ചു ഒളിച്ചുവരുംപോലെ ജനം അന്നു പട്ടണത്തിലേക്കു ഒളിച്ചുകടന്നു.

3. And the people stole back into the city that day, as people who are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

4. രാജാവു മുഖം മൂടിഎന്റെ മകനേ, അബ്ശാലോമേ, അബ്ശാലോമേ, എന്റെ മകനേ! എന്നു ഉറക്കെ നിലവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

4. But the king covered his face, and the king cried out with a loud voice, 'O my son Absalom! O Absalom, my son, my son!'

5. അപ്പോള് യോവാബ് അരമനയില് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു പറഞ്ഞതുഇന്നു നിന്റെയും നിന്റെ പുത്രീപുത്രന്മാരുടെയും നിന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരുടെയും വെപ്പാട്ടികളുടെയും ജീവനെ രക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നിന്റെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരെയും നീ ഇന്നു ലജ്ജിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്നെ പാകെക്കുന്നവരെ നീ സ്നേഹീക്കുന്നു; നിന്നെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവരെ നീ പകെക്കുന്നു;

5. Then Joab came into the house to the king, and said, 'Today you have disgraced all your servants who today have saved your life, the lives of your sons and daughters, the lives of your wives and the lives of your concubines,

6. പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും ഭൃത്യന്മാരും നിനക്കു ഏതുമില്ല എന്നു നീ ഇന്നു കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അബ്ശാലോം ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കയും ഞങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും ഇന്നു മരിക്കയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു എങ്കില് നിനക്കു നല്ല പ്രസാദമാകുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു എനിക്കു ഇന്നു മനസ്സിലായി.

6. 'in that you love your enemies and hate your friends. For you have declared today that you regard neither princes nor servants; for today I perceive that if Absalom had lived and all of us had died today, then it would have pleased you well.

7. ആകയാല് ഇപ്പോള് എഴുന്നേറ്റു പുറത്തുവന്നു നിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടു സന്തോഷമായി സംസാരിക്ക; നീ പുറത്തു വരാത്തപക്ഷം യഹോവയാണ, ഈ രാത്രി ആരും നിന്നോടുകൂടെ താമസിക്കയില്ല; അതു നിന്റെ ബാല്യംമുതല് ഇതുവരെ നിനക്കു ഭവിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള സകല അനര്ത്ഥത്തെക്കാളും വലിയ അനര്ത്ഥമായ്തീരും.

7. 'Now therefore, arise, go out and speak comfort to your servants. For I swear by the LORD, if you do not go out, not one will stay with you this night. And that will be worse for you than all the evil that has befallen you from your youth until now.'

8. അങ്ങനെ രാജാവു എഴുന്നേറ്റു പടിവാതില്ക്കല് ഇരുന്നു. രാജാവു പടിവാതില്ക്കല് ഇരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ജനത്തിനെല്ലാം അറിവു കിട്ടി; സകലജനവും രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പില് വന്നു.

8. Then the king arose and sat in the gate. And they told all the people, saying, 'There is the king, sitting in the gate.' So all the people came before the king. For everyone of Israel had fled to his tent.

9. യിസ്രായേല്യര് താന്താങ്ങളുടെ വീടുകളിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയിരുന്നു. എല്ലായിസ്രായേല് ഗോത്രങ്ങളിലുമുള്ള ജനം ഒക്കെയും തമ്മില് തര്ക്കിച്ചുരാജാവു നമ്മെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു രക്ഷിച്ചു; ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു നമ്മെ വിടുവിച്ചതും അവന് തന്നേ. ഇപ്പോഴോ അബ്ശാലോംനിമിത്തം അവന് നാടുവിട്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

9. Now all the people were in a dispute throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, 'The king saved us from the hand of our enemies, he delivered us from the hand of the Philistines, and now he has fled from the land because of Absalom.

10. നമുക്കു രാജാവായി നാം അഭിഷേകം ചെയ്തിരുന്ന അബ്ശാലോമോ പടയില് പട്ടുപോയി. ആകയാല് രാജാവിനെ തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന കാര്യത്തില് നിങ്ങള് അനങ്ങാതിരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. 'But Absalom, whom we anointed over us, has died in battle. Now therefore, why do you say nothing about bringing back the king?'

11. അനന്തരം ദാവീദ്രാജാവു പുരോഹിതന്മാരായ സാദോക്കിന്റെയും അബ്യാഥാരിന്റെയും അടുക്കല് ആളയച്ചു പറയിച്ചതെന്തെന്നാല്നിങ്ങള് യെഹൂദാമൂപ്പന്മാരോടു പറയേണ്ടതുരാജാവിനെ അരമനയിലേക്കു തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന കാര്യത്തില് നിങ്ങള് പിമ്പന്മാരായി നിലക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? രാജാവിനെ അരമനയിലേക്കു തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരുന്ന കാര്യത്തില് എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിന്റെയും സംസാരം അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

11. So King David sent to Zadok and Abiathar the priests, saying, 'Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, 'Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house, since the words of all Israel have come to the king, to his [very] house?

12. നിങ്ങള് എന്റെ സഹോദരന്മാര്; എന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും അല്ലോ. രാജാവിനെ മടക്കി വരുത്തുന്ന കാര്യത്തില് നിങ്ങള് പിമ്പരായി നിലക്കുന്നതു എന്തു?

12. 'You [are] my brethren, you [are] my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?'

13. നിങ്ങള് അമാസയോടുനീ എന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും അല്ലോ? നീ യോവാബിന്നു പകരം എപ്പോഴും എന്റെ മുമ്പില് സേനാപതിയായിരിക്കുന്നില്ല എങ്കില് ദൈവം തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും എന്നോടു ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു പറവിന് .

13. 'And say to Amasa, '[Are] you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you are not commander of the army before me continually in place of Joab.' '

14. ഇങ്ങനെ അവന് സകല യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരുടെയും ഹൃദയം ഒന്നുപോലെ ആകര്ഷിച്ചു. ആകയാല് അവര്നീയും നിന്റെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരും മടങ്ങിവരുവിന് എന്നു രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു.

14. So he swayed the hearts of all the men of Judah, just as [the heart of] one man, so that they sent [this word] to the king: 'Return, you and all your servants!'

15. അങ്ങനെ രാജാവു മടങ്ങി യോര്ദ്ദാങ്കല് എത്തി. രാജാവിനെ എതിരേറ്റു യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടുപോരേണ്ടതിന്നു യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാര് ഗില്ഗാലില് ചെന്നു.

15. Then the king returned and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to escort the king across the Jordan.

16. ബഹൂരീമിലെ ബെന്യാമീന്യനായ ഗേരയുടെ മകന് ശിമെയിയും യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരോടുകൂടെ ദാവീദ് രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്പാന് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു ചെന്നു.

16. And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, who [was] from Bahurim, hastened and came down with the men of Judah to meet King David.

17. അവനോടുകൂടെ ആയിരം ബെന്യാമീന്യരും ശൌലിന്റെ ഗൃഹവിചാരകനായ സീബയും അവന്റെ പതിനഞ്ചു പുത്രന്മാരും ഇരുപതു ഭൃത്യന്മാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവര് രാജാവു കാണ്കെ യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടന്നു ചെന്നു.

17. [There were] a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went over the Jordan before the king.

18. രാജാവിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെ ഇക്കരെ കടത്തേണ്ടതിന്നും അവന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നും ചങ്ങാടം അക്കരെ ചെന്നിരുന്നു. അപ്പോള് ഗേരയുടെ മകനായ ശിമെയി യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടപ്പാന് പോകുന്ന രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പില് വീണു രാജാവിനോടു

18. Then a ferryboat went across to carry over the king's household, and to do what he thought good. Now Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king when he had crossed the Jordan.

19. എന്റെ യജമാനന് എന്റെ കുറ്റം എനിക്കു കണക്കിടരുതേ; യജമാനനായ രാജാവു യെരൂശലേമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ട ദിവസം അടിയന് ചെയ്ത ദോഷം രാജാവു മനസ്സില് വെക്കയും ഔര്ക്കയും അരുതേ.

19. Then he said to the king, 'Do not let my lord impute iniquity to me, or remember what wrong your servant did on the day that my lord the king left Jerusalem, that the king should take [it] to heart.

20. അടിയന് പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അറിയുന്നു; അതു കൊണ്ടു ഇതാ, യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഇറങ്ങി വരുവാന് യോസേഫിന്റെ സകലഗൃഹത്തിലുംവെച്ചു അടിയന് ഇന്നു മുമ്പനായി വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. 'For I, your servant, know that I have sinned. Therefore here I am, the first to come today of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.'

21. എന്നാറെ സെരൂയയുടെ മകനായ അബീശായിയഹോവയുടെ അഭിഷിക്തനെ ശപിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ശിമെയി അതുനിമിത്തം മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണ്ടയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

21. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, 'Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the LORD's anointed?'

22. അതിന്നു ദാവീദ്സെരൂയയുടെ പുത്രന്മാരേ, ഇന്നു നിങ്ങള് എനിക്കു എതിരികളാകേണ്ടതിന്നു എനിക്കും നിങ്ങള്ക്കും തമ്മില് എന്തു? ഇന്നു യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരുത്തനെ കൊല്ലാമോ? ഇന്നു ഞാന് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു രാജാവെന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. And David said, 'What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be adversaries to me today? Shall any man be put to death today in Israel? For do I not know that today I [am] king over Israel?'

23. പിന്നെ ശിമെയിയോടുനീ മരിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു, രാജാവു അവനോടു സത്യവും ചെയ്തു.

23. Therefore the king said to Shimei, 'You shall not die.' And the king swore to him.

24. ശൌലിന്റെ മകനായ മെഫീബോശെത്തും രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്പാന് വന്നു; രാജാവു പോയ ദിവസം മുതല് സമാധാനത്തോടെ മടങ്ങിവന്ന ദിവസംവരെ അവന് തന്റെ കാലിന്നു രക്ഷചെയ്കയോ താടി ഒതുക്കുകയോ വസ്ത്രം അലക്കിക്കയോ ചെയ്തിരുന്നില്ല.

24. Now Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king. And he had not cared for his feet, nor trimmed his mustache, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he returned in peace.

25. എന്നാല് അവന് രാജാവിനെ എതിരേല്പാന് യെരൂശലേമില് നിന്നു വന്നപ്പോള് രാജാവു അവനോടുമെഫീബോശെത്തേ, നീ എന്നോടുകൂടെ വരാതെയിരുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

25. So it was, when he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said to him, 'Why did you not go with me, Mephibosheth?'

26. അതിന്നു അവന് ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുയജമാനനായ രാജാവേ, എന്റെ ഭൃത്യന് എന്നെ ചതിച്ചു; കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറി, രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ പോകേണ്ടതിന്നു കോപ്പിടേണമെന്നു അടിയന് പറഞ്ഞു; അടിയന് മുടന്തനല്ലോ.

26. And he answered, 'My lord, O king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said, 'I will saddle a donkey for myself, that I may ride on it and go to the king,' because your servant [is] lame.

27. അവന് യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനോടു അടിയനെക്കൊണ്ടു നുണയും പറഞ്ഞു; എങ്കിലും യജമാനനായ രാജാവു ദൈവദൂതന്നു തുല്യന് ആകുന്നു; തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെ ചെയ്തുകൊള്ക.

27. 'And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king, but my lord the king [is] like the angel of God. Therefore do [what is] good in your eyes.

28. യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ അടിയന്റെ പിതൃഭവനമൊക്കെയും മരണയോഗ്യര് ആയിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും അടിയനെ അവിടത്തെ മേശയിങ്കല് ഭക്ഷിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ആക്കി; രാജാവിനോടു ആവലാധി പറവാന് അടിയന്നു ഇനി എന്തു അവകാശമുള്ളു?

28. 'For all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king. Yet you set your servant among those who eat at your own table. Therefore what right have I still to cry out anymore to the king?'

29. രാജാവു അവനോടുനീ നിന്റെ കാര്യം ഇനി അധികം പറയുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? നീയും സീബയും നിലം പകുത്തെടുത്തുകൊള്വിന് എന്നു ഞാന് കല്പിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. So the king said to him, 'Why do you speak anymore of your matters? I have said, 'You and Ziba divide the land.' '

30. മെഫീബോശെത്ത് രാജാവിനോടുഅല്ല, അവന് തന്നേ മുഴുവനും എടുത്തുകൊള്ളട്ടെ; യജമാനനായ രാജാവു സമാധാനത്തോടെ അരമനയില് എത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

30. Then Mephibosheth said to the king, 'Rather, let him take it all, inasmuch as my lord the king has come back in peace to his own house.'

31. ഗിലെയാദ്യനായ ബര്സില്ലായിയും രോഗെലീമില്നിന്നു വന്നു, രാജാവിനെ യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ കടത്തി യാത്ര അയപ്പാന് അവനോടുകൂടെ യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടന്നു.

31. And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim and went across the Jordan with the king, to escort him across the Jordan.

32. ബര്സില്ലായിയോ എണ്പതു വയസ്സുള്ളോരു വയോധികനായിരുന്നു; രാജാവു മഹനയീമില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന കാലത്തു അവന് ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങള് അയച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവന് മഹാധനികന് ആയിരുന്നു.

32. Now Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old. And he had provided the king with supplies while he stayed at Mahanaim, for he [was] a very rich man.

33. രാജാവു ബര്സില്ലായിയോടുഎന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരിക; ഞാന് നിന്നെ യെരൂശലേമില് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് പാര്പ്പിച്ചു രക്ഷിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33. And the king said to Barzillai, 'Come across with me, and I will provide for you while you are with me in Jerusalem.'

34. ബര്സില്ലായി രാജാവിനോടു പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്ഞാന് രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ യെരൂശലേമില് വരുന്നതെന്തിന്നു? ഞാന് ഇനി എത്ര നാള് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കും?

34. But Barzillai said to the king, 'How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?

35. എനിക്കു ഇന്നു എണ്പതു വയസ്സായിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ലതും ആകാത്തതും എനിക്കു തിരിച്ചറിയാമോ? ഭക്ഷണപാനങ്ങളുടെ സ്വാദു അടിയന്നു അറിയാമോ? സംഗീതക്കാരുടെയും സംഗീതക്കാരത്തികളുടെയും സ്വരം എനിക്കു ഇനി കേട്ടു രസിക്കാമോ? അടിയന് യജമാനനായ രാജാവിന്നു ഭാരമായ്തീരുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു?

35. 'I [am] today eighty years old. Can I discern between the good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear any longer the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should your servant be a further burden to my lord the king?

36. അടിയന് രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടപ്പാനേ വിചാരിച്ചുള്ളൂ; രാജാവു ഇതിന്നായി എനിക്കു ഈ വിധം പ്രത്യുപകാരം ചെയ്യുന്നതു എന്തിനു?

36. 'Your servant will go a little way across the Jordan with the king. And why should the king repay me [with] such a reward?

37. എന്റെ പട്ടണത്തില് എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെയും അമ്മയുടെയും കല്ലറയുടെ അടുക്കല്വെച്ചു മരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അടിയന് വിടകൊള്ളട്ടെ; എന്നാല് നിന്റെ ദാസനായ കിംഹാം ഇതാ; അവന് യജമാനനായ രാജാവിനോടുകൂടെ പോരട്ടെ; നിനക്കു പ്രസാദമായതു അവന്നു ചെയ്തു കൊടുത്താലും.

37. 'Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, near the grave of my father and mother. But here is your servant Chimham; let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what seems good to you.'

38. അതിന്നു രാജാവുകിംഹാം എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരട്ടെ; നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടപ്രകാരം ഞാന് അവന്നു ചെയ്തുകൊടുക്കാം; നീ എന്നോടു ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് നിനക്കായി ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

38. And the king answered, 'Chimham shall cross over with me, and I will do for him what seems good to you. Now whatever you request of me, I will do for you.'

39. പിന്നെ സകലജനവും യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടന്നു. രാജാവു യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടന്നശേഷം ബര്സില്ലായിയെ ചുംബനംചെയ്തു അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു; അവന് സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

39. Then all the people went over the Jordan. And when the king had crossed over, the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him, and he returned to his own place.

40. രാജാവു ഗില്ഗാലില് ചെന്നു; കീംഹാമും അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയി; യെഹൂദാജനമൊക്കെയും യിസ്രായേല്ജനം പാതിയും കൂടി രാജാവിനെ ഇക്കരെകൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

40. Now the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him. And all the people of Judah escorted the king, and also half the people of Israel.

41. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല്പുരുഷന്മാര് ഒക്കെയും രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു രാജാവിനോടുഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാര് രാജാവിനെയും അവന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെയും ദാവീദിന്റെ സകലപരിചാരകന്മാരെയും മോഷ്ടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടുവന്നു യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടത്തിയതു എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

41. Just then all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, 'Why have our brethren, the men of Judah, stolen you away and brought the king, his household, and all David's men with him across the Jordan?'

42. അതിന്നു യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാര് ഒക്കെയും യിസ്രായേല് പുരുഷന്മാരോടുരാജാവു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു അടുത്ത ചാര്ച്ചക്കാരന് ആകകൊണ്ടു തന്നേ; അതിന്നു നിങ്ങള് കോപിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? ഞങ്ങള് രാജാവിന്റെ വക വല്ലതും തിന്നുവോ? അവന് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വല്ല സമ്മാനവും തന്നുവോ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

42. So all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, 'Because the king [is] a close relative of ours. Why then are you angry over this matter? Have we ever eaten at the king's [expense?] Or has he given us any gift?'

43. യിസ്രായേല്പുരുഷന്മാര് യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരോടുരാജാവിങ്കല് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പത്തു ഔഹരി ഉണ്ടു; ദാവീദിങ്കല് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു നിങ്ങളെക്കാള് അധികം അവകാശവും ഉണ്ടു; നിങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളെ ധിക്കരിച്ചതു എന്തു? ഞങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവിനെ തിരികെ കൊണ്ടുവരേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങളല്ലയോ അദ്യം പറഞ്ഞതു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാല് യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരുടെ വാക്കു യിസ്രായേല് പുരുഷന്മാരുടെ വാക്കിനെക്കാള് അധികം കഠിനമായിരുന്നു.

43. And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, 'We have ten shares in the king; therefore we also have more [right] to David than you. Why then do you despise us -- were we not the first to advise bringing back our king?' Yet the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
