1. സൂര്യന്നു കീഴെ ഞാന് കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഒരു തിന്മ ഉണ്ടു; അതു മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും ഭാരമുള്ളതാകുന്നു.

1. There is something else terribly unfair, and it troubles everyone on earth.

2. ദൈവം ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്നു ധനവും ഐശ്വര്യവും മാനവും നലകുന്നു; അവന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതിന്നു ഒന്നിന്നും അവന്നു കുറവില്ല; എങ്കിലും അതു അനുഭവിപ്പാന് ദൈവം അവന്നു അധികാരം കൊടുക്കുന്നില്ല; ഒരു അന്യനത്രേ അതു അനുഭവിക്കുന്നതു; അതു മായയും വല്ലാത്ത വ്യാധിയും തന്നേ.

2. God may give you everything you want--money, property, and wealth. Then God doesn't let you enjoy it, and someone you don't even know gets it all. That's senseless and terribly unfair!

3. ഒരു മനുഷ്യന് നൂറുമക്കളെ ജനിപ്പിക്കയും ഏറിയ സംവത്സരം ജീവിച്ചു ദീര്ഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കയും ചെയ്തിട്ടും അവന് നന്മ അനുഭവിച്ചു തൃപ്തനാകാതെയും ഒരു ശവസംസ്ക്കാരം പ്രാപിക്കാതെയും പോയാല് ഗര്ഭം അലസിപ്പോയ പിണ്ഡം അവനെക്കാള് നന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് പറയുന്നു.

3. You may live a long time and have a hundred children. But a child born dead is better off than you, unless you enjoy life and have a decent burial.

4. അതു മായയില് വരുന്നു; അന്ധകാരത്തിലേക്കു പോകുന്നു; അതിന്റെ പേര് അന്ധകാരത്തില് മറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. That child will never live to see the sun or to have a name, and it will go straight to the world of darkness. But it will still find more rest than you,

5. സൂര്യനെ അതു കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടുമില്ല; മറ്റേവനെക്കാള് അധികം വിശ്രാമം അതിന്നുണ്ടു.

6. അവന് ഈരായിരത്താണ്ടു ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നിട്ടും നന്മ അനുഭവിച്ചില്ലെങ്കില് എല്ലാവരും ഒരു സ്ഥലത്തേക്കല്ലയോ പോകുന്നതു?

6. even if you live two thousand years and don't enjoy life. As you know, we all end up in the same place.

7. മനുഷ്യന്റെ പ്രയത്നമൊക്കെയും അവന്റെ വായക്കുവേണ്ടിയാകുന്നു; എങ്കിലും അവന്റെ കൊതിക്കു മതിവരുന്നില്ല.

7. We struggle just to have enough to eat, but we are never satisfied.

8. മൂഢനെക്കാള് ജ്ഞാനിക്കു എന്തു വിശേഷതയുള്ളു? പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ള സാധുവിന്നു ജീവനുള്ളവരുടെ മുമ്പില് നടക്കുന്നതില് എന്തു വിശേഷതയുള്ളു?

8. We may be sensible, yet we are no better off than a fool. And if we are poor, it still doesn't do us any good to try to live right.

9. അഭിലാഷത്തിന്റെ സഞ്ചാരത്തെക്കാള് കണ്ണിന്റെ നോട്ടം നല്ലതു; അതും മായയും വൃഥാപ്രയത്നവും അത്രേ.

9. It's better to enjoy what we have than to always want something else, because that makes no more sense than chasing the wind.

10. ഒരുത്തന് എന്തു തന്നേ ആയിരുന്നാലും അവന്നു പണ്ടേ തന്നേ പേര് വിളിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; മനുഷ്യന് എന്താകും എന്നു വിധിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു; തന്നിലും ബലമേറിയവനോടു വാദിപ്പാന് അവന്നു കഴിവില്ല.

10. Everything that happens was decided long ago. We humans know what we are like, and we can't argue with God, because he is too strong for us.

11. മായയെ വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വാക്കു പെരുക്കിയാലും മനുഷ്യന്നു എന്തു ലാഭം?

11. The more we talk, the less sense we make, so what good does it do to talk?

12. മനുഷ്യന്റെ ജീവിതകാലത്തു, അവന് നിഴല് പോലെ കഴിച്ചുകൂട്ടുന്ന വ്യര്ത്ഥമായുള്ള ആയുഷ്കാലത്തൊക്കെയും അവന്നു എന്താകുന്നു നല്ലതു എന്നു ആര്ക്കറിയാം? അവന്റെ ശേഷം സൂര്യന്നു കീഴെ എന്തു സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു മനുഷ്യനോടു ആര് അറിയിക്കും?

12. Life is short and meaningless, and it fades away like a shadow. Who knows what is best for us? Who knows what will happen after we are gone?
