1. യഹോവയായ ദൈവം ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ എല്ലാ കാട്ടുജന്തുക്കളെക്കാളും പാമ്പു കൌശലമേറിയതായിരുന്നു. അതു സ്ത്രീയോടുതോട്ടത്തിലെ യാതൊരു വൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെ ഫലവും നിങ്ങള് തിന്നരുതെന്നു ദൈവം വാസ്തവമായി കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

1. Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which Jehovah God had made. And he said to the woman, Is it so that God has said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2. സ്ത്രീ പാമ്പിനോടുതോട്ടത്തിലെ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ഫലം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തിന്നാം;

2. And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden.

3. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.

4. And the serpent said to the woman, You shall not surely die,

5. അതു തിന്നുന്ന നാളില് നിങ്ങളുടെ കണ്ണു തുറക്കയും നിങ്ങള് നന്മതിന്മകളെ അറിയുന്നവരായി ദൈവത്തെപ്പോലെ ആകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു ദൈവം അറിയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. for God knows that in the day you eat of it, then your eyes shall be opened, and you shall be as God, knowing good and evil.

6. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasing to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make wise, she took of its fruit, and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

7. ഉടനെ ഇരുവരുടെയും കണ്ണു തുറന്നു തങ്ങള് നഗ്നരെന്നു അറിഞ്ഞു, അത്തിയില കൂട്ടിത്തുന്നി തങ്ങള്ക്കു അരയാട ഉണ്ടാക്കി.

7. And the eyes of both of them were opened. And they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made girdles for themselves.

8. വെയിലാറിയപ്പോള് യഹോവയായ ദൈവം തോട്ടത്തില് നടക്കുന്ന ഒച്ച അവര് കേട്ടു; മനുഷ്യനും ഭാര്യയും യഹോവയായ ദൈവം തങ്ങളെ കാണാതിരിപ്പാന് തോട്ടത്തിലെ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് ഒളിച്ചു.

8. And they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Jehovah God in the middle of the trees of the garden.

9. യഹോവയായ ദൈവം മനുഷ്യനെ വിളിച്ചുനീ എവിടെ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. And Jehovah God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?

10. തോട്ടത്തില് നിന്റെ ഒച്ച കേട്ടിട്ടു ഞാന് നഗ്നനാകകൊണ്ടു ഭയപ്പെട്ടു ഒളിച്ചു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And he said, I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I am naked, and I hid myself.

11. നീ നഗ്നനെന്നു നിന്നോടു ആര് പറഞ്ഞു? തിന്നരുതെന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നോടു കല്പിച്ച വൃക്ഷഫലം നീ തിന്നുവോ എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചു.

11. And He said, Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree which I commanded you that you should not eat?

12. അതിന്നു മനുഷ്യന് എന്നോടു കൂടെ ഇരിപ്പാന് നീ തന്നിട്ടുള്ള സ്ത്രീ വൃക്ഷഫലം തന്നു; ഞാന് തിന്നുകയും ചെയ്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.

13. യഹോവയായ ദൈവം സ്ത്രീയോടുനീ ഈ ചെയ്തതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുപാമ്പു എന്നെ വഞ്ചിച്ചു, ഞാന് തിന്നുപോയി എന്നു സ്ത്രീ പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And Jehovah God said to the woman, What is this you have done? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate.

14. യഹോവയായ ദൈവം പാമ്പിനോടു കല്പിച്ചതുനീ ഇതു ചെയ്കകൊണ്ടു എല്ലാ കന്നുകാലികളിലും എല്ലാ കാട്ടുമൃഗങ്ങളിലുംവെച്ചു നീ ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ ഉരസ്സുകൊണ്ടു ഗമിച്ചു നിന്റെ ആയുഷ്കാലമൊക്കെയും പൊടി തിന്നും.

14. And Jehovah God said to the serpent, Because you have done this you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every animal of the field. You shall go upon your belly, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.

17. And to Adam He said, Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it! The ground is cursed for your sake. In pain shall you eat of it all the days of your life.

19. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are, and to dust you shall return.

20. And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

21. യഹോവയായ ദൈവം ആദാമിന്നും അവന്റെഭാര്യെക്കും തോല്കൊണ്ടു ഉടുപ്പു ഉണ്ടാക്കി അവരെ ഉടുപ്പിച്ചു.

21. And for Adam and his wife Jehovah God made coats of skins, and clothed them.

22. യഹോവയായ ദൈവംമനുഷ്യന് നന്മതിന്മകളെ അറിവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം നമ്മില് ഒരുത്തനെപ്പോലെ ആയിത്തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇപ്പോള് അവന് കൈനീട്ടി ജീവവൃക്ഷത്തിന്റെ ഫലംകൂടെ പറിച്ചു തിന്നു എന്നേക്കും ജീവിപ്പാന് സംഗതിവരരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

22. And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man has become as one of Us, to know good and evil. And now, lest he put forth his hand and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever,

23. അവനെ എടുത്തിരുന്ന നിലത്തു കൃഷി ചെയ്യേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവയായ ദൈവം അവനെ ഏദെന് തോട്ടത്തില്നിന്നു പുറത്താക്കി.

23. therefore Jehovah God sent him out from the garden of Eden to till the ground from which he had been taken.

24. ഇങ്ങനെ അവന് മനുഷ്യനെ ഇറക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; ജീവന്റെ വൃക്ഷത്തിങ്കലേക്കുള്ള വഴികാപ്പാന് അവന് ഏദെന് തോട്ടത്തിന്നു കിഴക്കു കെരൂബുകളെ തിരിഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന വാളിന്റെ ജ്വാലയുമായി നിര്ത്തി.

24. And He drove out the man. And He placed cherubs at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
