1. ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ന്യായപാലനം നടത്തിയ കാലത്തു ഒരിക്കല് ദേശത്തു ക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായി; യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമിലുള്ള ഒരു ആള് തന്റെ ഭാര്യയും രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരുമായി മോവാബ് ദേശത്ത് പരദേശിയായി പാര്പ്പാന് പോയി.

1. Now it came to pass, in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehemjudah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons.

2. അവന്നു എലീമേലെക് എന്നും ഭാര്യെക്കു നൊവൊമി എന്നും രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും മഹ്ളോന് എന്നും കില്യോന് എന്നും പേര്. അവര് യെഹൂദയിലെ ബേത്ത്ളഹെമില്നിന്നുള്ള എഫ്രാത്യര് ആയിരുന്നു; അവര് മോവാബ് ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു.

2. And the name of the man was Elimelech and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehemjudah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there.

3. എന്നാല് നൊവൊമിയുടെ ഭര്ത്താവായ എലീമേലെക് മരിച്ചു; അവളും രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരും ശേഷിച്ചു.

3. And Elimelech, Naomi's husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons.

4. അവര് മോവാബ്യസ്ത്രീകളെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചു ഒരുത്തിക്കു ഒര്പ്പാ എന്നും മറ്റവള്ക്കു രൂത്ത് എന്നും പേര്; അവര് ഏകദേശം പത്തു സംവത്സരം അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

4. And they took themselves wives of the women of Moab: the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth. And they dwelt there about ten years.

5. പിന്നെ മഹ്ളോനും കില്യോനും ഇരുവരും മരിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരും ഭര്ത്താവും കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു ആ സ്ത്രീ മാത്രം ശേഷിച്ചു.

5. And Mahlon and Chilion died also, both of them; and the woman was left without her two sons and her husband.

6. യഹോവ തന്റെ ജനത്തെ സന്ദര്ശിച്ചു ആഹാരം കൊടുത്തപ്രകാരം അവള് മോവാബ് ദേശത്തുവെച്ചു കേട്ടിട്ടു മോവാബ് ദേശം വിട്ടു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുവാന് തന്റെ മരുമക്കളോടുകൂടെ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

6. Then she arose with her daughters-in-law, that she might return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab how the LORD had visited His people in giving them bread.

7. അങ്ങനെ അവള് മരുമക്കളുമായി പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന സ്ഥലം വിട്ടു യെഹൂദാദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുവാന് യാത്രയായി.

7. Therefore she went forth out of the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return unto the land of Judah.

8. എന്നാല് നൊവൊമി മരുമക്കള് ഇരുവരോടുംനിങ്ങള് താന്താന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുവിന് ; മരിച്ചവരോടും എന്നോടും നിങ്ങള് ചെയ്തതുപോലെ യഹോവ നിങ്ങളോടും ദയചെയ്യുമാറാകട്ടെ.

8. And Naomi said unto her two daughters-in-law, 'Go, return each to your mother's house. The LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead and with me.

9. നിങ്ങള് താന്താന്റെ ഭര്ത്താവിന്റെ വീട്ടില് വിശ്രാമം പ്രാപിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു കൃപ നലകുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവരെ ചുംബിച്ചു; അവര് ഉച്ചത്തില് കരഞ്ഞു.

9. The LORD grant you that ye may find rest, each of you in the house of her husband.' Then she kissed them, and they lifted up their voice and wept.

10. അവര് അവളോടുഞങ്ങളും നിന്നോടുകൂടെ നിന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And they said unto her, 'Surely we will return with thee unto thy people.'

11. അതിന്നു നൊവൊമി പറഞ്ഞതുഎന്റെ മക്കളേ, നിങ്ങള് മടങ്ങിപ്പൊയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് ; എന്തിന്നു എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരുന്നു? നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാരായിരിപ്പാന് ഇനി എന്റെ ഉദരത്തില് പുത്രന്മാര് ഉണ്ടോ?

11. And Naomi said, 'Turn back, my daughters. Why will ye go with me? Are there yet any more sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

12. എന്റെ മക്കളേ, മടങ്ങിപ്പൊയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് ; ഒരു പുരുഷന്നു ഭാര്യയായിരിപ്പാന് എനിക്കു പ്രായം കഴിഞ്ഞുപോയി; അല്ല, അങ്ങനെ ഒരു ആശ എനിക്കുണ്ടായിട്ടു ഈ രാത്രി തന്നേ ഒരു പുരുഷന്നു ഭാര്യയായി പുത്രന്മാരെ പ്രസവിച്ചാലും

12. Turn back, my daughters, go your way; for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, if I should have a husband also tonight and should also bear sons,

13. അവര്ക്കും പ്രായമാകുവോളം നിങ്ങള് അവര്ക്കായിട്ടു കാത്തിരിക്കുമോ? നിങ്ങള് ഭര്ത്താക്കന്മാരെ എടുക്കാതെ നിലക്കുമോ? അതു വേണ്ടാ, എന്റെ മക്കളേ; യഹോവയുടെ കൈ എനിക്കു വിരോധമായി പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കയാല് നിങ്ങളെ വിചാരിച്ചു ഞാന് വളരെ വ്യസനിക്കുന്നു.

13. would ye tarry for them until they were grown? Would ye refrain for them from having husbands? Nay, my daughters, for it grieveth me much for your sakes that the hand of the LORD has gone out against me.'

14. അവര് പിന്നെയും പൊട്ടിക്കരഞ്ഞു; ഒര്പ്പാ അമ്മാവിയമ്മയെ ചുംബിച്ചു പിരിഞ്ഞു; രൂത്തോ അവളോടു പറ്റിനിന്നു.

14. And they lifted up their voice and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth cleaved unto her.

15. അപ്പോള് അവള്നിന്റെ സഹോദരി തന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെയും തന്റെ ദേവന്റെയും അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയല്ലോ; നീയും നിന്റെ സഹോദരിയുടെ പിന്നാലെ പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And she said, 'Behold, thy sister-in-law has gone back unto her people and unto her gods. Return thou after thy sister-in-law.'

16. അതിന്നു രൂത്ത്നിന്നെ വിട്ടുപിരിവാനും നിന്റെ കൂടെ വരാതെ മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുവാനും എന്നോടു പറയരുതേ; നീ പോകുന്നേടത്തു ഞാനും പോരും; നീ പാര്ക്കുംന്നേടത്തു ഞാനും പാര്ക്കും; നിന്റെ ജനം എന്റെ ജനം, നിന്റെ ദൈവം എന്റെ ദൈവം.

16. And Ruth said: 'Entreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee; for whither thou goest, I will go, and where thou lodgest, I will lodge. Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.

17. നീ മരിക്കുന്നേടത്തു ഞാനും മരിച്ചു അടക്കപ്പെടും; മരണത്താലല്ലാതെ ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിട്ടുപിരിഞ്ഞാല് യഹോവ തക്കവണ്ണവും അധികവും എന്നോടു ചെയ്യുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. Where thou diest will I die, and there will I be buried; the LORD do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.'

18. തന്നോടു കൂടെ പോരുവാന് അവള് ഉറെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോള് അവള് അവളോടു സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു മതിയാക്കി.

18. When she saw that she was steadfastly minded to go with her, then she left off speaking unto her.

19. അങ്ങനെ അവര് രണ്ടുപേരും ബേത്ത്ളേഹെംവരെ നടന്നു; അവര് ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് പട്ടണം മുഴുവനും അവരുടെനിമിത്തം ഇളകി; ഇവള് നൊവൊമിയോ എന്നു സ്ത്രീജനം പറഞ്ഞു.

19. So the two went until they came to Bethlehem. And it came to pass, when they had come to Bethlehem, that all the city was moved concerning them; and they said, 'Is this Naomi?'

20. അവള് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുനൊവൊമി എന്നല്ല മാറാ എന്നു എന്നെ വിളിപ്പിന് ; സര്വ്വശക്തന് എന്നോടു ഏറ്റവും കൈപ്പായുള്ളതു പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

20. And she said unto them, 'Call me not Naomi [that is, Pleasant]. Call me Mara [that is, Bitter], for the Almighty hath dealt very bitterly with me.

21. നിറഞ്ഞവളായി ഞാന് പോയി, ഒഴിഞ്ഞവളായി യഹോവ എന്നെ മടക്കിവരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവ എനിക്കു വിരോധമായി സാക്ഷീകരിക്കയും സര്വ്വശക്തന് എന്നെ ദുഃഖിപ്പിക്കയും ചെയ്തിരിക്കെ നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ നൊവൊമി എന്നു വിളിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു?

21. I went out full, and the LORD hath brought me home again empty. Why then call ye me Naomi, seeing the LORD hath testified against me and the Almighty hath afflicted me?'

22. ഇങ്ങനെ നൊവൊമി മോവാബ് ദേശത്തുനിന്നു കൂടെ പോന്ന മരുമകള് രൂത്ത് എന്ന മോവാബ്യസ്ത്രീയുമായി മടങ്ങിവന്നു; അവര് യവക്കൊയ്ത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തില് ബേത്ത്ളേഹെമില് എത്തി.

22. So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess her daughter-in-law with her, who returned out of the country of Moab; and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest.
