1. യാക്കോബിനോടുകൂടെ താന്താന്റെ കുടുംബസഹിതം മിസ്രയീമില് വന്ന യിസ്രായേല് മക്കളുടെ പേരുകള് ആവിതു

1. And these [are] the names of the sons of Israel who are coming into Egypt with Jacob; a man and his household have they come;

2. രൂബേന് , ശിമെയോന് , ലേവി,

2. Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

3. യെഹൂദാ, യിസ്സാഖാര്, സെബൂലൂന് , ബെന്യാമീന്

3. Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

4. ദാന് , നഫ്താലി, ഗാദ്, ആശേര്.

4. Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5. യാക്കോബിന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഉത്ഭവിച്ച ദേഹികള് എല്ലാം കൂടെ എഴുപതു പേര് ആയിരുന്നു; യോസേഫോ മുമ്പെ തന്നേ മിസ്രയീമില് ആയിരുന്നു.

5. And all the persons coming out of the thigh of Jacob are seventy persons; as to Joseph, he was in Egypt.

6. യോസേഫും സഹോദരന്മാരെല്ലാവരും ആതലമുറ ഒക്കെയും മരിച്ചു.

6. And Joseph dieth, and all his brethren, and all that generation;

7. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് സന്താനസമ്പന്നരായി അത്യന്തം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു പെരുകി ബലപ്പെട്ടു; ദേശം അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു.

7. and the sons of Israel have been fruitful, and they teem, and multiply, and are very very mighty, and the land is filled with them.

8. അനന്തരം യോസേഫിനെ അറിയാത്ത പുതിയോരു രാജാവു മിസ്രയീമില് ഉണ്ടായി.

8. And there riseth a new king over Egypt, who hath not known Joseph,

9. അവന് തന്റെ ജനത്തോടുയിസ്രായേല് ജനം നമ്മെക്കാള് ബാഹുല്യവും ശക്തിയുമുള്ളവരാകുന്നു.

9. and he saith unto his people, 'Lo, the people of the sons of Israel [is] more numerous and mighty than we;

10. അവര് പെരുകീട്ടു ഒരു യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന പക്ഷം നമ്മുടെ ശത്രുക്കളോടു ചേര്ന്നു നമ്മോടു പൊരുതു ഈ രാജ്യം വിട്ടു പൊയ്ക്കളവാന് സംഗതി വരാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം അവരോടു ബുദ്ധിയായി പെരുമാറുക.

10. give help! let us act wisely concerning it, lest it multiply, and it hath come to pass, when war happeneth, that it hath been joined, even it, unto those hating us, and hath fought against us, and hath gone out up of the land.'

11. അങ്ങനെ കഠിനവേലകളാല് അവരെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരുടെമേല് ഊഴിയവിചാരകന്മാരെ ആക്കി; അവര് പീഥോം, റയംസേസ് എന്ന സംഭാരനഗരങ്ങളെ ഫറവോന്നു പണിതു.

11. And they set over it princes of tribute, so as to afflict it with their burdens, and it buildeth store-cities for Pharaoh, Pithom and Raamses;

12. എന്നാല് അവര് പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്തോറും ജനം പെരുകി വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് യിസ്രായേല് മക്കള്നിമിത്തം പേടിച്ചു.

12. and as they afflict it, so it multiplieth, and so it breaketh forth, and they are vexed because of the sons of Israel;

13. മിസ്രയീമ്യര് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളെക്കൊണ്ടു കഠിനവേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു.

13. and the Egyptians cause the sons of Israel to serve with rigour,

14. കളിമണ്ണും ഇഷ്ടികയും വയലിലെ സകലവിധവേലയും സംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള കഠിനപ്രവര്ത്തിയാലും അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു കാഠിന്യത്തോടെ ചെയ്യിച്ച സകലപ്രയത്നത്താലും അവര് അവരുടെ ജീവനെ കൈപ്പാക്കി.

14. and make their lives bitter in hard service, in clay, and in brick, and in every [kind] of service in the field; all their service in which they have served [is] with rigour.

15. എന്നാല് മിസ്രയീംരാജാവു ശിപ്രാ എന്നും പൂവാ എന്നും പേരുള്ള എബ്രായസൂതികര്മ്മിണികളോടു

15. And the king of Egypt speaketh to the midwives, the Hebrewesses, (of whom the name of the one [is] Shiphrah, and the name of the second Puah),

16. എബ്രായസ്ത്രീകളുടെ അടുക്കല് നിങ്ങള് സൂതികര്മ്മത്തിന്നു ചെന്നു പ്രസവശയ്യയില് അവരെ കാണുമ്പോള് കുട്ടി ആണാകുന്നു എങ്കില് നിങ്ങള് അതിനെ കൊല്ലേണം; പെണ്ണാകുന്നു എങ്കില് ജീവനോടിരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

16. and saith, 'When ye cause the Hebrew women to bear, and have looked on the children; if it [is] a son -- then ye have put him to death; and if it [is] a daughter -- then she hath lived.'

17. സൂതികര്മ്മിണികളോ ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു, മിസ്രയീം രാജാവു തങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ചെയ്യാതെ ആണ് കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിച്ചു.

17. And the midwives fear God, and have not done as the king of Egypt hath spoken unto them, and keep the lads alive;

18. അപ്പോള് മിസ്രയീം രാജാവു സൂതികര്മ്മിണികളെ വരുത്തി; ഇതെന്തൊരു പ്രവൃത്തി? നിങ്ങള് ആണ്കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

18. and the king of Egypt calleth for the midwives, and saith to them, 'Wherefore have ye done this thing, and keep the lads alive?'

19. സൂതികര്മ്മിണികള് ഫറവോനോടുഎബ്രായസ്ത്രീകള് മിസ്രയീമ്യസ്ത്രീകളെപ്പോലെ അല്ല; അവര് നല്ല തിറമുള്ളവര്; സൂതികര്മ്മിണികള് അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് എത്തുമ്മുമ്പെ അവര് പ്രസവിച്ചു കഴിയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. And the midwives say unto Pharaoh, 'Because the Hebrew women [are] not as the Egyptian women, for they [are] lively; before the midwife cometh in unto them -- they have borne!'

20. അതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവം സൂതികര്മ്മിണികള്ക്കു നന്മചെയ്തു; ജനം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു ഏറ്റവം ബലപ്പെട്ടു.

20. And God doth good to the midwives, and the people multiply, and are very mighty;

21. സൂതി കര്മ്മിണികള് ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുകകൊണ്ടു അവന് അവര്ക്കും കുടുംബവര്ദ്ധന നല്കി.

21. and it cometh to pass, because the midwives have feared God, that He maketh for them households;

22. പിന്നെ ഫറവോന് തന്റെ സകലജനത്തോടുംജനിക്കുന്ന ഏതു ആണ്കുട്ടിയെയും നദിയില് ഇട്ടുകളയേണമെന്നും ഏതു പെണ്കുട്ടിയെയും ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിക്കേണമെന്നും കല്പിച്ചു.

22. and Pharaoh layeth a charge on all his people, saying, 'Every son who is born -- into the River ye do cast him, and every daughter ye do keep alive.'
