1. മകനേ, എന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ പ്രമാണിച്ചു എന്റെ കല്പനകളെ നിന്റെ ഉള്ളില് സംഗ്രഹിച്ചുകൊള്ക.

1. My child, keep my words and treasure up my commands in your own keeping.

2. നീ ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ കല്പനകളെയും ഉപദേശത്തെയും നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്റെ കൃഷ്ണമണിയെപ്പോലെ കാത്തുകൊള്ക.

2. Keep my commands so that you may live, and obey my instruction as your most prized possession.

3. നിന്റെ വിരലിന്മേല് അവയെ കെട്ടുക; ഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ പലകയില് എഴുതുക.

4. ജ്ഞാനത്തോടുനീ എന്റെ സഹോദരി എന്നു പറക; വിവേകത്തിന്നു സഖി എന്നു പേര് വിളിക്ക.

5. അവ നിന്നെ പരസ്ത്രീയുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും ചക്കരവാക്കു പറയുന്ന അന്യസ്ത്രീയുടെ വശത്തുനിന്നും കാക്കും.

5. so that they may keep you from the adulterous woman, from the loose woman who flatters you with her words.

6. ഞാന് എന്റെ വീട്ടിന്റെ കിളിവാതില്ക്കല് അഴിക്കിടയില്കൂടി നോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

8. അവന് വൈകുന്നേരം, സന്ധ്യാസമയത്തു, ഇരുട്ടും അന്ധകാരവുമുള്ള ഒരു രാത്രിയില്,

9. അവളുടെ വീട്ടിന്റെ കോണിന്നരികെ വീഥിയില്കൂടി കടന്നു, അവളുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയെ നടന്നു ചെല്ലുന്നു.

15. അതുകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് നിന്നെ കാണ്മാന് ആഗ്രഹിച്ചു. നിന്നെ എതിരേല്പാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു നിന്നെ കണ്ടെത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

16. ഞാന് എന്റെ കട്ടിലിന്മേല് പരവതാനികളും മിസ്രയീമ്യനൂല്കൊണ്ടുള്ള വരിയന് പടങ്ങളും വിരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. മൂറും അകിലും ലവംഗവുംകൊണ്ടു ഞാന് എന്റെ മെത്ത സുഗന്ധമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. വരിക; വെളുക്കുംവരെ നമുക്കു പ്രേമത്തില് രമിക്കാം; കാമവിലാസങ്ങളാല് നമുക്കു സുഖിക്കാം.

18. Come, let's drink deeply of lovemaking until morning, let's delight ourselves with sexual intercourse.

19. പുരുഷന് വീട്ടില് ഇല്ല; ദൂരയാത്ര പോയിരിക്കുന്നു;

20. പണമടിശ്ശീല കൂടെ കൊണ്ടുപോയിട്ടുണ്ടു; പൌര്ണ്ണമാസിക്കേ വീട്ടില് വന്നെത്തുകയുള്ളു.

21. ഇങ്ങനെ ഏറിയോരു ഇമ്പവാക്കുകളാല് അവള് അവനെ വശീകരിച്ചു അധരമാധുര്യംകൊണ്ടു അവനെ നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിക്കുന്നു.

21. She persuaded him with persuasive words; with her smooth talk she compelled him.

22. അറുക്കുന്നേടത്തേക്കു കാളയും ചങ്ങലയിലേക്കു ഭോഷനും പോകുന്നതുപോലെയും,

22. Suddenly he went after her like an ox that goes to the slaughter, like a stag prancing into a trapper's snare

23. പക്ഷി ജീവഹാനിക്കുള്ളതെന്നറിയാതെ കണിയിലേക്കു ബദ്ധപ്പെടുന്നതുപോലെയും കരളില് അസ്ത്രം തറെക്കുവോളം അവന് അവളുടെ പിന്നാലെ ചെല്ലുന്നു.

23. till an arrow pierces his liver like a bird hurrying into a trap, and he does not know that it will cost him his life.

24. ആകയാല് മക്കളേ, എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്പ്പിന് ; എന്റെ വായിലെ വചനങ്ങളെ ശ്രദ്ധിപ്പിന് .

24. So now, sons, listen to me, and pay attention to the words I speak.

25. നിന്റെ മനസ്സു അവളുടെ വഴിയിലേക്കു ചായരുതു; അവളുടെ പാതകളിലേക്കു നീ തെറ്റിച്ചെല്ലുകയുമരുതു.

25. Do not let your heart turn aside to her ways do not wander into her pathways;

26. അവള് വീഴിച്ച ഹതന്മാര് അനേകര്; അവള് കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞവര് ആകെ വലിയോരു കൂട്ടം ആകുന്നു.

26. for she has brought down many fatally wounded, and all those she has slain are many.

27. അവളുടെ വീടു പാതാളത്തിലേക്കുള്ള വഴിയാകുന്നു; അതു മരണത്തിന്റെ അറകളിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുന്നു.

27. Her house is the way to the grave, going down to the chambers of death.
