1. അയ്യോ, ജനപൂര്ണ്ണയായിരുന്ന നഗരം ഏകാന്തയായിരിക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ? ജാതികളില് മഹതിയായിരുന്നവള് വിധവയെപ്പോലെ ആയതെങ്ങനെ? സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളുടെ നായകിയായിരുന്നവള് ഊഴിയവേലക്കാരത്തിയായതെങ്ങനെ?

1. HOW SOLITARY and lonely sits the city [Jerusalem] that was [once] full of people! How like a widow has she become! She who was great among the nations and princess among the provinces has become a tributary [in servitude]!

2. രാത്രിയില് അവള് കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അവളുടെ കവിള്ത്തടങ്ങളില് കണ്ണുനീര് കാണുന്നു; അവളുടെ സകലപ്രിയന്മാരിലും അവളെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല; അവളുടെ സ്നേഹിതന്മാരൊക്കെയും അവള്ക്കു ശത്രുക്കളായി ദ്രോഹം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

2. She weeps bitterly in the night, and her tears are [constantly] on her cheeks. Among all her lovers (allies) she has no one to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; they have become her enemies. [Jer. 3:1; 4:30.]

3. കഷ്ടതയും കഠിനദാസ്യവുംനിമിത്തം യെഹൂദാ പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു; അവള് ജാതികളുടെ ഇടയില് പാര്ക്കുംന്നു; വിശ്രാമം കണ്ടെത്തുന്നതുമില്ല; അവളെ പിന്തുടരുന്നവരൊക്കെയും ഇടുക്കിടങ്ങളില്വെച്ചു അവളെ എത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുന്നു.

3. Judah has gone into exile [to escape] from the affliction and laborious servitude [of the homeland]. She dwells among the [heathen] nations, but she finds no rest; all her persecutors overtook her amid the [dire] straits [of her distress].

4. ഉത്സവത്തിന്നു ആരും വരായ്കകൊണ്ടു സീയോനിലേക്കുള്ള വഴികള് ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു; അവളുടെ വാതിലുകളൊക്കെയും ശൂന്യമായി. പുരോഹിതന്മാര് നെടുവീര്പ്പിടുന്നു; അവളുടെ കന്യകമാര് ഖേദിക്കുന്നു; അവള്ക്കും വ്യസനം പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

4. The roads to Zion mourn, because no one comes to the solemn assembly or the appointed feasts. All her gates are desolate, her priests sigh and groan, her maidens are grieved and vexed, and she herself is in bitterness.

5. അവളുടെ അതിക്രമബാഹുല്യംനിമിത്തം യഹോവ അവള്ക്കു സങ്കടം വരുത്തിയതിനാല് അവളുടെ വൈരികള്ക്കു പ്രാധാന്യം ലഭിച്ചു, അവളുടെ ശത്രുക്കള് ശുഭമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവളുടെ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങള് വൈരിയുടെ മുമ്പായി പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു.

5. Her adversaries have become the head; her enemies prosper. For the Lord has afflicted her for the multitude of her transgressions; her young children have gone into captivity before the enemy. [Jer. 30:14, 15; 52:28; Dan. 9:7-14.]

6. സീയോന് പുത്രിയുടെ മഹത്വമൊക്കെയും അവളെ വിട്ടുപോയി; അവളുടെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് മേച്ചല് കാണാത്ത മാനുകളെപ്പോലെ ആയി; പിന്തുടരുന്നവന്റെ മുമ്പില് അവര് ശക്തിയില്ലാതെ നടക്കുന്നു.

6. From the Daughter of Zion all her beauty and majesty have departed. Her princes have become like harts that find no pasture; they have fled without strength before the pursuer.

7. കഷ്ടാരിഷ്ടതകളുടെ കാലത്തു യെരൂശലേം പണ്ടത്തെ മനോഹരവസ്തുക്കളെയൊക്കെയും ഔര്ക്കുംന്നു; സഹായിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ലാതെ അവളുടെ ജനം വൈരിയുടെ കയ്യില് അകപ്പെട്ടപ്പോള്, വൈരികള് അവളെ നോക്കി അവളുടെ നാശത്തെക്കുറിച്ചു ചിരിച്ചു.

7. Jerusalem [earnestly] remembers in the days of her affliction, in the days of her [compulsory] wanderings and her bitterness, all the pleasant and precious things that she had from the days of old. When her people fell into and at the hands of the adversary, and there was none to help her, the enemy [gloated as they] looked at her, and they mocked at her desolations and downfall.

8. യെരൂശലേം കഠിനപാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു മലിനയായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവളെ ബഹുമാനിച്ചവരൊക്കെയും അവളുടെ നഗ്നത കണ്ടിട്ടു അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കുന്നു; അവളോ നെടുവീര്പ്പിട്ടുകൊണ്ടു പിന്നോക്കം തിരിയുന്നു.

8. Jerusalem has grievously sinned; therefore she has become an unclean thing and has been removed. All who honored her despise her, because they have seen her nakedness; yes, she herself groans and sighs and turns [her face] away.

9. അവളുടെ മലിനത ഉടുപ്പിന്റെ വിളുമ്പില് കാണുന്നു; അവള് ഭാവികാലം ഔര്ത്തില്ല; അവള് അതിശയമാംവണ്ണം വീണുപോയി; അവളെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല; യഹോവേ, ശത്രു വമ്പു പറയുന്നു; എന്റെ സങ്കടം നോക്കേണമേ.

9. Her filthiness was in and on her skirts; she did not [seriously and earnestly] consider her final end. Therefore she has come down [from throne to slavery] singularly and astonishingly; she has no comforter. O Lord [cries Jerusalem], look at my affliction, for the enemy has magnified himself [in triumph]!

10. അവളുടെ സകലമനോഹരവസ്തുക്കളിന്മേലും വൈരി കൈവെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ സഭയില് പ്രവേശിക്കരുതെന്നു നീ കല്പിച്ച ജാതികള് അവളുടെ വിശുദ്ധമന്ദിരത്തില് കടന്നതു അവള് കണ്ടുവല്ലോ.

10. The adversary has spread out his hand upon all her precious and desirable things; for she has seen the nations enter her sanctuary [of the temple]--when You commanded that they should not even enter Your congregation [in the outer courts]. [Deut. 23:3; Jer. 51:51; Ezek. 44:7, 9.]

11. അവളുടെ സര്വ്വജനവും നെടുവീര്പ്പിട്ടുകൊണ്ടു ആഹാരം തിരയുന്നു; വിശപ്പടക്കുവാന് ആഹാരത്തിന്നു വേണ്ടി അവര് തങ്ങളുടെ മനോഹര വസ്തുക്കളെ കൊടുത്തുകളയുന്നു; യഹോവേ, ഞാന് നിന്ദിതയായിരിക്കുന്നതു കടാക്ഷിക്കേണമേ.

11. All her people groan and sigh, seeking for bread; they have given their desirable and precious things [in exchange] for food to revive their strength and bring back life. See, O Lord, and consider how wretched and lightly esteemed, how vile and abominable, I have become!

12. കടന്നുപോകുന്ന ഏവരുമായുള്ളോരേ, ഇതു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഏതുമില്ലയോ? യഹോവ തന്റെ ഉഗ്രകോപദിവസത്തില് ദുഃഖിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന എനിക്കു അവന് വരുത്തിയ വ്യസനം പോലെ ഒരു വ്യസനം ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു നോക്കുവിന് !

12. Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow which was dealt out to me, with which the Lord has afflicted me in the day of His fierce anger!

13. ഉയരത്തില്നിന്നു അവന് എന്റെ അസ്ഥികളില് തീ അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു കടന്നുപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ കാലിന്നു അവന് വല വിരിച്ചു, എന്നെ മടക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; അവന് എന്നെ ശൂന്യയും നിത്യരോഗിണിയും ആക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

13. From above He has sent fire into my bones, and it prevailed against them. He has spread a net for my feet; He has turned me back. He has made me hopelessly miserable and faint all the day long.

14. എന്റെ അതിക്രമങ്ങളുടെ നുകം അവന് സ്വന്തകയ്യാല് പിണെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, അവ എന്റെ കഴുത്തില് പിണെഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് എന്റെ ശക്തി ക്ഷയിപ്പിച്ചു; എനിക്കു എതിര്ത്തുനില്പാന് കഴിയാത്തവരുടെ കയ്യില് കര്ത്താവു എന്നെ ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. The yoke of my transgressions is bound by His hand; they were twined together; they were set upon my neck. He has made my strength fail and [me to] stumble; the Lord has delivered me into the hands of those I am unable to resist or withstand. [Deut. 28:48.]

15. The Lord has made of no account all my [Jerusalem's] mighty men in the midst of me; He has proclaimed a set time against me to crush my young men. The Lord has trodden as in a winepress the Virgin Daughter of Judah.

16. ഇതുനിമിത്തം ഞാന് കരയുന്നു; എന്റെ കണ്ണു കണ്ണുനീരൊഴുക്കുന്നു; എന്റെ പ്രാണനെ തണുപ്പിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന ആശ്വാസപ്രദന് എന്നോടു അകന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; ശത്രു പ്രബലനായിരിക്കയാല് എന്റെ മക്കള് നശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

16. For these things I weep; my eyes overflow with tears, because a comforter, one who could refresh and restore my soul, is far from me. My children are desolate and perishing, for the enemy has prevailed. [Lam. 1:21.]

17. സീയോന് കൈ മലര്ത്തുന്നു; അവളെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല; യഹോവ യാക്കോബിന്നു അവന്റെ ചുറ്റും വൈരികളെ കല്പിച്ചാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; യെരൂശലേം അവരുടെ ഇടയില് മലിനയായിരിക്കുന്നു.

17. Zion stretches forth her hands, but there is no comforter for her. The Lord has commanded concerning and against Jacob that his neighbors should be his adversaries; Jerusalem has become a filthy thing among them [an object of contempt].

18. യഹോവ നീതിമാന് ; ഞാന് അവന്റെ കല്പനയോടു മത്സരിച്ചു; സകലജാതികളുമായുള്ളോരേ, കേള്ക്കേണമേ, എന്റെ വ്യസനം കാണേണമേ; എന്റെ കന്യകമാരും യൌവനക്കാരും പ്രവാസത്തിലേക്കു പോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

18. The Lord is righteous (just and in the right); for I have rebelled against His commandment (His word). Hear, I pray you, all you peoples, and look at my sorrow and suffering; my maidens and my young men have gone into captivity.

19. ഞാന് എന്റെ പ്രിയന്മാരെ വിളിച്ചു; അവരോ എന്നെ ചതിച്ചു; എന്റെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരും മൂപ്പന്മാരും വിശപ്പടക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ആഹാരം തിരഞ്ഞുനടക്കുമ്പോള് നഗരത്തില് വെച്ചു പ്രാണനെ വിട്ടു.

19. I [Jerusalem] called to my lovers [allies], but they deceived me. My priests and my elders expired in the city while they sought food to save their lives.

20. യഹോവേ, നോക്കേണമേ; ഞാന് വിഷമത്തിലായി എന്റെ ഉള്ളം കലങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് കഠിനമായി മത്സരിക്കകൊണ്ടു എന്റെ ഹൃദയം എന്റെ ഉള്ളില് മറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; പുറമേ വാള് സന്തതിനാശം വരുത്തുന്നു; വീട്ടിലോ മരണം തന്നേ.

20. Behold, O Lord, how distressed I am! My vital parts (emotions) are in tumult and are deeply disturbed; my heart cannot rest and is violently agitated within me, for I have grievously rebelled. Outside the house the sword bereaves, at home there is [famine, pestilence] death!

21. ഞാന് നെടുവീര്പ്പിടുന്നതു അവര് കേട്ടു; എന്നെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാന് ആരുമില്ല; എന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളൊക്കെയും എന്റെ അനര്ത്ഥം കേട്ടു, നീ അതു വരുത്തിയതുകൊണ്ടു സന്തോഷിക്കുന്നു; നീ കല്പിച്ച ദിവസം നീ വരുത്തും; അന്നു അവരും എന്നെപ്പോലെയാകും.

21. [My foes] have heard that I [Jerusalem] sigh and groan, that I have no comforter [in You]. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad [O Lord] that You have done it. You will bring the day [of Judah's punishment] that you have foretold and proclaimed; [it involves also my foes' punishment] and they will become like me. [Isa. 14:5, 6; Jer. 30:16.]

22. അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ടതയൊക്കെയും തിരുമുമ്പില് വരട്ടെ; എന്റെ സകല അതിക്രമങ്ങളും നിമിത്തം നീ എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ അവരോടും ചെയ്യേണമേ; എന്റെ നെടുവിര്പ്പു വളരെയല്ലോ; എന്റെ ഹൃദയം രോഗാര്ത്തമായിരിക്കുന്നു.

22. Let all their wickedness come before You; and deal with them as You have dealt with me because of all my transgressions; for my sighs and groans are many and my heart is faint.
