1. പെഥൂവേലിന്റെ മകനായ യോവേലിന്നു ഉണ്ടായ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

1. The word of Yahweh that was addressed to Joel son of Pethuel.

2. മൂപ്പന്മാരേ, ഇതുകേള്പ്പിന് ; ദേശത്തിലെ സകലനിവാസികളുമായുള്ളോരേ, ചെവിക്കൊള്വിന് ; നിങ്ങളുടെ കാലത്തോ നിങ്ങളുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരുടെ കാലത്തോ ഇങ്ങനെ സംഭവിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ?

2. Listen to this, you elders; everybody in the country, attend! Has anything like this ever happened in your day, or in your ancestors' days?

3. ഇതു നിങ്ങള് നിങ്ങളുടെ മക്കളോടും നിങ്ങളുടെ മക്കള് തങ്ങളുടെ മക്കളോടും അവരുടെ മക്കള് വരുവാനുള്ള തലമുറയോടും വിവരിച്ചുപറയേണം.

3. Tell your children about it and let your children tell their children, and their children the next generation!

4. തുള്ളന് ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചതു വെട്ടുക്കിളി തിന്നു; വെട്ടുക്കിളി ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചതു വിട്ടില് തിന്നു; വിട്ടില് ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചതു പച്ചപ്പുഴു തിന്നു.

4. What the nibbler has left, the grown locust has eaten, what the grown locust has left, the hopper has eaten, and what the hopper has left, the shearer has eaten.

5. മദ്യപന്മാരേ, ഉണര്ന്നു കരവിന് ; വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്ന ഏവരുമായുള്ളോരേ, പുതുവീഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളുടെ വായക്കു അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കയാല് മുറയിടുവിന് .

5. Wake up, you drunkards, and weep! All you wine-bibbers, lament for the new wine: it has been snatched from your lips.

6. ശക്തിയുള്ളതും സംഖ്യയില്ലാത്തതുമായോരു ജാതി എന്റെ ദേശത്തിന്റെ നേരെ വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു; അതിന്റെ പല്ലു സിംഹത്തിന്റെ പല്ലു; സിംഹിയുടെ അണപ്പല്ലു അതിന്നുണ്ടു.

6. For a nation has invaded my country, mighty and innumerable, with teeth like a lion's teeth, with the fangs of a lioness.

7. അതു എന്റെ മുന്തിരിവള്ളിയെ ശൂന്യമാക്കി എന്റെ അത്തിവൃക്ഷത്തെ ഒടിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; അതിനെ മുഴുവനും തോലുരിച്ചു എറിഞ്ഞുകളഞ്ഞു; അതിന്റെ കൊമ്പുകള് വെളുത്തുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു.

7. It has reduced my vines to a desolation and my fig trees to splinters, stripped them and broken them down, leaving their branches white.

8. യൌവനത്തിലെ ഭര്ത്താവിനെച്ചൊല്ലി രട്ടുടുത്തിരിക്കുന്ന കന്യകയെപ്പോലെ വിലപിക്ക.

8. Mourn, as a virgin-bride in sackcloth for the bridegroom of her youth!

9. ഭോജനയാഗവും പാനീയയാഗവും യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില്നിന്നു അറ്റുപോയിരിക്കുന്നു; യഹോവയുടെ ശുശ്രൂഷകന്മാരായ പുരോഹിതന്മാര് ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു.

9. Cereal offering and libation are lost to Yahweh's Temple. The priests, the ministers of Yahweh, are in mourning.

10. വയല് ശൂന്യമായ്തീര്ന്നു ധാന്യം നശിച്ചും പുതുവീഞ്ഞു വറ്റിയും എണ്ണ ക്ഷയിച്ചും പോയിരിക്കയാല് ദേശം ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു.

10. The fields are ruined, the land is in mourning, for the grain has been ruined, the new wine has failed, of olive oil only a trickle.

11. കൃഷിക്കാരേ, ലജ്ജിപ്പിന് ; മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടക്കാരേ, കോതമ്പിനെയും യവത്തെയും ചൊല്ലി മുറയിടുവിന് ; വയലിലെ വിളവു നശിച്ചുപോയല്ലോ.

11. Stand dismayed, you farmers, wail, you vinedressers, for the wheat, for the barley! The harvest of the fields has been lost!

12. മുന്തിരിവള്ളി വാടി അത്തിവൃക്ഷം ഉണങ്ങി, മാതളം, ഈന്തപ്പന, നാരകം മുതലായി പറമ്പിലെ സകലവൃക്ഷങ്ങളും ഉണങ്ങിപ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു; ആനന്ദം മനുഷ്യരെ വീട്ടു മാഞ്ഞുപോയല്ലോ.

12. The vine has withered, the fig tree wilts away; pomegranate, palm tree, apple tree, every tree in the countryside is dry, and for human beings joy has run dry too.

13. പുരോഹിതന്മാരേ, രട്ടുടുത്തു വിലപിപ്പിന് ; യാഗപീഠത്തിന്റെ ശുശ്രൂഷകന്മാരേ, മുറയിടുവിന് ; എന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ശുശ്രൂഷകന്മാരേ, ഭോജനയാഗവും പാനീയയാഗവും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തില് മുടങ്ങിപ്പോയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങള് വന്നു രട്ടുടുത്തു രാത്രി കഴിച്ചുകൂട്ടുവിന് .

13. Priests, put on sackcloth and lament! You ministers of the altar, wail! Come here, lie in sackcloth all night long, you ministers of my God! For the Temple of your God has been deprived of cereal offering and libation.

14. ഒരു ഉപവാസദിവസം നിയമിപ്പിന് ; സഭായോഗം വിളിപ്പിന് ; മൂപ്പന്മാരെയും ദേശത്തിലെ സകലനിവാസികളെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് കൂട്ടിവരുത്തുവിന് ; യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിപ്പിന് ;

14. Order a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly; you elders, summon everybody in the country to the Temple of Yahweh your God. Cry out to Yahweh:

15. ആ ദിവസം അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം! യഹോവയുടെ ദിവസം അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു. അതു സര്വ്വശക്തന്റെ പക്കല്നിന്നു സംഹാരം പോലെ വരുന്നു.

15. 'Alas for the day! For the Day of Yahweh is near, coming as destruction from Shaddai.'

16. നമ്മുടെ കണ്ണിന്റെ മുമ്പില്നിന്നു ആഹാരവും നമ്മുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ആലയത്തില്നിന്നു സന്തോഷവും ഉല്ലാസഘോഷവും അറ്റുപോയല്ലോ.

16. Has not the food disappeared before our very eyes? Have not joy and gladness vanished from the Temple of our God?

17. വിത്തു കട്ടകളുടെ കീഴില് കിടന്നു കെട്ടുപോകുന്നു; ധാന്യം കരിഞ്ഞുപോയിരിക്കയാല് പാണ്ടികശാലകള് ശൂന്യമായി കളപ്പുരകള് ഇടിഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നു.

17. The seeds shrivel under their clods; the granaries are deserted, the barns are in ruins, because the harvest has dried out.

18. മൃഗങ്ങള് എത്ര ഞരങ്ങുന്നു; കന്നുകാലികള് മേച്ചല് ഇല്ലായ്കകൊണ്ടു ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുന്നു; ആടുകള് ദണ്ഡം അനുഭവിക്കുന്നു.

18. Loudly the cattle groan! The herds of oxen are bewildered because they have no pasture. The flocks of sheep bear the punishment too.

19. യഹോവേ, നിന്നോടു ഞാന് നിലവിളിക്കുന്നു; മരുഭൂമിയിലെ പുല്പുറങ്ങള് തീക്കും പറമ്പിലെ വൃക്ഷങ്ങള് എല്ലാം ജ്വാലെക്കും ഇരയായിത്തീര്ന്നുവല്ലോ.

19. Yahweh, to you I cry: for fire has devoured the desert pastures, flame has burnt up all the trees in the countryside.

20. നീര്തോടുകള് വറ്റിപ്പോകയും മരുഭൂമിയിലെ പുല്പുറങ്ങള് തീക്കു ഇരയായിത്തീരുകയും ചെയ്തതുകൊണ്ടു വയലിലെ മൃഗങ്ങളും നിന്നെ നോക്കി കിഴെക്കുന്നു.

20. Even the wild animals pant loudly for you, for the watercourses have run dry, and fire has devoured the desert pastures.
