1. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു യെരീഹോവിന്റെ സമീപത്തു യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ മോവാബ് സമഭൂമിയില് പാളയമിറങ്ങി.

1. And they went forward and encamped in the plains of Moab, over against where Jericho is situate beyond the Jordan.

2. യിസ്രായേല് അമോര്യ്യരോടു ചെയ്തതൊക്കെയും സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് അറിഞ്ഞു.

2. And Balac the son of Sephor, seeing all that Israel had done to the Amorrhite,

3. ജനം വളരെയായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു മോവാബ് ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളെക്കുറിച്ചു മോവാബ് പരിഭ്രമിച്ചു.

3. And that the Moabites were in great fear of him, and were not able to sustain his assault,

4. മോവാബ് മിദ്യാന്യമൂപ്പന്മാരോടുകാള വയലിലെ പുല്ലു നക്കിക്കളയുന്നതു പോലെ ഈ കൂട്ടം നമ്മുടെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള എല്ലാവരെയും നക്കിക്കളയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അക്കാലത്തു മോവാബ്രാജാവു സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് ആയിരുന്നു.

4. He said to the elders of Madian: So will this people destroy all that dwell in our borders, as the ox is wont to eat the grass to the very roots. Now he was at that time king in Moab.

5. അവന് ബെയോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബിലെയാമിനെ വിളിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ സ്വജാതിക്കാരുടെ ദേശത്തു നദീതീരത്തുള്ള പെഥോരിലേക്കു ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുഒരു ജനം മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു ഭൂതലത്തെ മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് എനിക്കെതിരെ പാര്ക്കുംന്നു.

5. He sent therefore messengers to Balaam the son of Beer, a soothsayer, who dwelt by the river of the land of the children of Ammon, to call him, and to say: Behold a people is come out of Egypt, that hath covered the face of the earth, sitting over against me.

6. നീ വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി ഈ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കേണമേ; അവര് എന്നെക്കാള് ഏറ്റവും ബലവാന്മാര് ആയിരിക്കകൊണ്ടു പക്ഷേ അവരെ തോല്പിച്ചു ദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഔടിച്ചുകളവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിവുണ്ടാകുമായിരിക്കും; നീ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് , നീ ശപിക്കുന്നവന് ശപിക്കപ്പെട്ടവന് എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

6. Come therefore, and curse this people, because it is mightier than I: if by any means I may beat them and drive them out of my land: for I know that he whom thou shalt bless is blessed, and he whom thou shalt curse is cursed.

7. മോവാബ്യ മൂപ്പന്മാരും മിദ്യാന്യമൂപ്പന്മാരും കൂടി കയ്യില് പ്രശ്നദക്ഷിണയുമായി ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ വാക്കുകളെ അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. And the ancients of Moab, and the elders of Madian, went with the price of divination in their hands. And when they were come to Balaam, and had told him all the words of Balac:

8. അവന് അവരോടുഇന്നു രാത്രി ഇവിടെ പാര്പ്പിന് ; യഹോവ എന്നോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നതു പോലെ ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു ഉത്തരം പറയാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് ബിലെയാമിനോടു കൂടെ പാര്ത്തു.

8. He answered: Tarry here this night, and I will answer whatsoever the Lord shall say to me. And while they stayed with Balaam, God came and said to him:

9. ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല്വന്നുനിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ഈ മനുഷ്യര് ആരെന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. What mean these men that are with thee?

10. ബിലെയാം ദൈവത്തോടുഒരു ജനം മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു ഭൂതലത്തെ മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നു; നീ വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി അവരെ ശപിക്കേണം.

10. He answered: Balac the son of Sephor king of the Moabites hath sent to me,

11. പക്ഷേ അവരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്തു അവരെ ഔടിച്ചുകളവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയും എന്നിങ്ങനെ മോവാബ്രാജാവായി സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് പറഞ്ഞയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. Saying: Behold a people that is come out of Egypt, hath covered the face of the land: come and curse them, if by any means I may fight with them and drive them away.

12. ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിനോടുനീ അവരോടുകൂടെ പോകരുതു; ആ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കയും അരുതു; അവര് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര് ആകുന്നു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

12. And God said to Balaam: Thou shalt not go with them, nor shalt thou curse the people: because it is blessed.

13. ബിലെയാം രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുനിങ്ങളുടെ ദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുവിന് ; നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പോരുവാന് യഹോവ എനിക്കു അനുവാദം തരുന്നില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And he rose in the morning and said to the princes: Go into your country, because the Lord hath forbid me to come with you.

14. മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബാലാക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു; ബിലെയാമിന്നു ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരുവാന് മനസ്സില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. The princes returning, said to Balac: Balaam would not come with us.

15. ബാലാക് വീണ്ടും അവരെക്കാള് മാന്യരായ അധികം പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെ അയച്ചു.

15. Then he sent many more and more noble than he had sent before:

16. അവര് ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു അവനോടുഎന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നതിന്നു മുടക്കം ഒന്നും പറയരുതേ.

16. Who, when they were come to Balaam, said: Thus saith Balac the son of Sephor, Delay not to come to me:

17. ഞാന് നിന്നെ ഏറ്റവും ബഹുമാനിക്കും; നീ എന്നോടു പറയുന്നതൊക്കെയും ഞാന് ചെയ്യാം; വന്നു എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി ഈ ജനത്തെ ശപിക്കേണമേ എന്നു സിപ്പോരിന്റെ മകനായ ബാലാക് പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. For I am ready to honour thee, and will give thee whatsoever thou wilt: come and curse this people.

18. ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാരോടുബാലാക് തന്റെ ഗൃഹം നിറെച്ചു വെള്ളിയും പൊന്നും എനിക്കു തന്നാലും എന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയുടെ കല്പന ലംഘിച്ചു ഏറെയോ കുറെയോ ചെയ്വാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയുന്നതല്ല.

18. Balaam answered: If Balac would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot alter the word of the Lord my God, to speak either more or less.

19. ആകയാല് യഹോവ ഇനിയും എന്നോടു എന്തു അരുളിച്ചെയ്യും എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയട്ടെ; നിങ്ങളും ഈ രാത്രി ഇവിടെ പാര്പ്പിന് എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

19. I pray you to stay here this night also, that I may know what the Lord will answer me once more.

20. രാത്രിയില് ദൈവം ബിലെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുഇവര് നിന്നെ വിളിപ്പാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവരോടുകൂടെ പോക; എന്നാല് ഞാന് നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്ന കാര്യം മാത്രമേ ചെയ്യാവു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

20. God therefore came to Balaam in the night, and said to him: It these men be come to call thee, arise and go with them: yet so, that thou do what I shall command thee.

21. ബിലെയാം രാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റു കഴുതെക്കു കോപ്പിട്ടു മോവാബ്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോയി.

21. Balaam arose in the morning, and saddling his ass went with them.

22. അവന് പോകുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു; യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് വഴിയില് അവന്നു പ്രതിയോഗിയായി നിന്നു; അവനോ കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറി യാത്ര ചെയ്കയായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ രണ്ടു ബാല്യക്കാരും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

22. And God was angry. And an angel of the Lord stood in the way against Balaam, who sat on the ass, and had two servants with him.

23. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് വാള് ഊരിപ്പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു വഴിയില് നിലക്കുന്നതു കഴുത കണ്ടു; കഴുത വഴിയില് നിന്നു മാറി വയലിലേക്കു പോയി; കഴുതയെ വഴിയിലേക്കു തിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ബിലെയാം അതിനെ അടിച്ചു.

23. The ass seeing the angel standing in the way, with a drawn sword, turned herself out of the way, and went into the field. And when Balaam beat her, and had a mind to bring her again to the way,

24. പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് ഇരുപുറവും മതിലുള്ള മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടങ്ങളുടെ ഇടുക്കുവഴിയില് നിന്നു.

24. The angel stood in a narrow place between two walls, wherewith the vineyards were enclosed.

25. കഴുത യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് മതിലരികെ ഒതുങ്ങി ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കാല് മതിലോടു ചേര്ത്തു ഞെക്കി; അവന് അതിനെ വീണ്ടും അടിച്ചു.

25. And the ass seeing him, thrust herself close to the wall, and bruised the foot of the rider. But he beat her again:

26. പിന്നെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് മുമ്പോട്ടു ചെന്നു ഇടത്തോട്ടും വലത്തോട്ടും മാറുവാന് വഴിയില്ലാത്ത ഒരു ഇടുക്കിടയില് നിന്നു.

26. And nevertheless the angel going on to a narrow place, where there was no way to turn aside either to the right hand or to the left, stood to meet him.

27. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനെ കണ്ടപ്പോള് കഴുത ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കീഴെകിടന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കോപം ജ്വലിച്ചു അവന് കഴുതയെ വടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചു.

27. And when the ass saw the angel standing, she fell under the feet of the rider: who being angry beat her sides more vehemently with a staff.

28. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ കഴുതയുടെ വായ് തുറന്നു; അതു ബിലെയാമിനോടുനീ എന്നെ ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം അടിപ്പാന് ഞാന് നിന്നോടു എന്തു ചെയ്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

28. And the Lord opened the mouth of the ass, and she said: What have I done to thee? Why strikest thou me, lo, now this third time?

29. ബിലെയാം കഴുതയോടുനീ എന്നെ കളിയാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടത്രേ. എന്റെ കയ്യില് ഒരു വാള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കില് ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ നിന്നെ കൊന്നുകളയുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. Balaam answered: Because thou hast deserved it, and hast served me ill: I would I had a sword that I might kill thee.

30. കഴുത ബിലെയാമിനോടുഞാന് നിന്റെ കഴുതയല്ലയോ? ഇക്കാലമൊക്കെയും എന്റെ പുറത്തല്ലയോ നീ കയറിനടന്നതു? ഞാന് എപ്പോഴെങ്കിലും ഇങ്ങനെ നിന്നോടു കാണിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. ഇല്ല എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

30. The ass said: Am not I thy beast, on which thou hast been always accustomed to ride until this present day? tell me if I ever did the like thing to thee. But he said: Never.

31. അപ്പോള് യഹോവ ബിലെയാമിന്റെ കണ്ണു തുറന്നു, യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് വാളൂരിപ്പിടിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു നിലക്കുന്നതു അവന് കണ്ടു സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു നമസ്കരിച്ചു. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് അവനോടു

31. Forthwith the Lord opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel standing in the way with a drawn sword, and he worshipped him falling flat on the ground.

32. ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം നീ കഴുതയെ അടിച്ചതു എന്തു? ഇതാ, ഞാന് നിനക്കു പ്രതിയോഗിയായി പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നുനിന്റെ വഴി നാശകരം എന്നു ഞാന് കാണുന്നു.

32. And the angel said to him: Why beatest thou thy ass these three times? I am come to withstand thee, because thy way is perverse, and contrary to me:

33. കഴുത എന്നെ കണ്ടു ഈ മൂന്നു പ്രാവശ്യം എന്റെ മുമ്പില് നിന്നു മാറിപ്പോയി; അതു മാറിപ്പോയിരുന്നില്ലെങ്കില് ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ നിന്നെ കൊന്നുകളകയും അതിനെ ജീവനോട രക്ഷിക്കയും ചെയ്യുമായിരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

33. And unless the ass had turned out of the way, giving place to me who stood against thee, I had slain thee, and she should have lived.

34. ബിലെയാം യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതനോടുഞാന് പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നുനീ എനിക്കു എതിരായി വഴിയില്നിന്നിരുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞില്ല; ഇതു നിനക്കു അനിഷ്ടമെന്നുവരികില് ഞാന് മടങ്ങിപ്പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

34. Balaam said: I have sinned, not knowing that thou didst stand against me: and now if it displease thee that I go, I will return.

35. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് ബിലെയാമിനോടുഇവരോടുകൂടെ പോക; എങ്കിലും ഞാന് നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്ന വചനം മാത്രമേ പറയാവു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരോടുകൂടെ പോകയും ചെയ്തു.

35. The angel said: Go with these men, and see thou speak no other thing than what I shall command thee. He went therefore with the princes.

36. ബിലെയാം വരുന്നു എന്നു ബാലാക് കേട്ടപ്പോള് അര്ന്നോന് തീരത്തു ദേശത്തിന്റെ അതിരിലുള്ള ഈര്മോവാബ്വരെ അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു ചെന്നു.

36. And when Balac heard it he came forth to meet him in a town of the Moabites, that is situate in the uttermost borders of Arnon.

37. ബാലാക് ബിലെയാമിനോടുഞാന് നിന്നെ വിളിപ്പാന് ആളയച്ചില്ലയോ? നീ വരാതിരുന്നതു എന്തു? നിന്നെ ബഹുമാനിപ്പാന് എനിക്കു കഴികയില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിനോടു

37. And he said to Balaam: I sent messengers to call thee, why didst thou not come immediately to me? was it because I am not able to reward thy coming?

38. ഞാന് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്നാല് എന്തെങ്കിലും പറവാന് എനിക്കു കഴിയുമോ? ദൈവം എന്റെ നാവിന്മേല് ആക്കിത്തരുന്ന വചനമേ ഞാന് പ്രസ്താവിക്കയുള്ളു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

38. He answered him: Lo, here I am: shall I have power to speak any other thing but that which God shall put in my mouth?

39. അങ്ങനെ ബിലെയാം ബാലാക്കിനോടുകൂടെ പോയി; അവര് കിര്യ്യത്ത് - ഹൂസോത്തില് എത്തി.

39. So they went on together, and came into a city, that was in the uttermost borders of his kingdom.

40. ബാലാക് കാളകളെയും ആടുകളെയും അറുത്തു ബിലെയാമിന്നും അവനോടുകൂടെയുള്ള പ്രഭുക്കന്മാര്ക്കും കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

40. And when Balac had killed oxen and sheep, he sent presents to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.

41. പിറ്റെന്നാള് ബാലാക് ബിലെയാമിനെ ബാമോത്ത്-ബാലിലേക്കു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവിടെനിന്നു അവന് ജനത്തിന്റെ ഒരു അറ്റം കണ്ടു.

41. And when morning was come, he brought him to the high places of Baal, and he beheld the uttermost part of the people.
