1. ആ കാലത്തു യോഹന്നാന് സ്നാപകന് വന്നു, യെഹൂദ്യമരുഭൂമിയില് പ്രസംഗിച്ചു

1. In those days John the Baptist came into the wilderness of Judea proclaiming,

2. സ്വര്ഗ്ഗ രാജ്യം സമീപിച്ചിരിക്കയാല് മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.'

3. “മരുഭൂമിയില് വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതുകര്ത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കി അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിന് ” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാ പ്രവാചകന് പറഞ്ഞവന് ഇവന് തന്നേ.
യെശയ്യാ 40:3

3. For he is the one about whom Isaiah the prophet had spoken: 'The voice of one shouting in the wilderness, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight.''

4. യോഹന്നാന്നു ഒട്ടക രോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉടുപ്പും അരയില് തോല്വാറും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ആഹാരമോ വെട്ടുക്കിളിയും കാട്ടുതേനും ആയിരുന്നു.

4. Now John wore clothing made from camel's hair with a leather belt around his waist, and his diet consisted of locusts and wild honey.

5. അന്നു യെരൂശലേമ്യരും യെഹൂദ്യദേശക്കാരൊക്കയും യോര്ദ്ദാന്റെ ഇരുകരെയുമുള്ള എല്ലാ നാട്ടുകാരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു

5. Then people from Jerusalem, as well as all Judea and all the region around the Jordan, were going out to him,

6. തങ്ങളുടെ പാപങ്ങളെ ഏറ്റുപറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു യോര്ദ്ദാന് നദിയില് അവനാല് സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു.

6. and he was baptizing them in the Jordan River as they confessed their sins.

7. തന്റെ സ്നാനത്തിന്നായി പരീശരിലും സദൂക്യരിലും പലര് വരുന്നതു കണ്ടാറെ അവന് അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതുസര്പ്പസന്തതികളെ, വരുവാനുള്ള കോപത്തെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞു ഔടിപ്പോകുവാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു ആര്?

7. But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, 'You offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

8. മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ ഫലം കായ്പിന് .

8. Therefore produce fruit that proves your repentance,

9. അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഉള്ളം കൊണ്ടു പറവാന് തുനിയരുതു; ഈ കല്ലുകളില് നിന്നു അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

9. and don't think you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' For I tell you that God can raise up children for Abraham from these stones!

10. ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ലഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയില് ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.

10. Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

11. ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നായി വെള്ളത്തില് സ്നാനം ഏല്പിക്കുന്നതേയുള്ളു; എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നവനോ എന്നെക്കാള് ബലവാന് ആകുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പു ചുമപ്പാന് ഞാന് മതിയായവനല്ല; അവന് നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിലും തീയിലും സ്നാനം ഏല്പിക്കും.

11. 'I baptize you with water, for repentance, but the one coming after me is more powerful than I am I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

12. വീശുമുറം അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടു; അവന് കളത്തെ മുറ്റും വെടിപ്പാക്കി കോതമ്പു കളപ്പുരയില് കൂട്ടിവെക്കയും പതിര് കെടാത്ത തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും ചെയ്യും.

12. His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clean out his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the storehouse, but the chaff he will burn up with inextinguishable fire.'

13. അനന്തരം യേശു യോഹന്നാനാല് സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുവാന് ഗലീലയില് നിന്നു യോര്ദ്ദാന് കരെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

13. Then Jesus came from Galilee to John to be baptized by him in the Jordan River.

14. യോഹന്നാനോ അവനെ വിലക്കിനിന്നാല് സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുവാന് എനിക്കു ആവശ്യം; പിന്നെ നീ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നുവോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. But John tried to prevent him, saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and yet you come to me?'

15. യേശു അവനോടുഇപ്പോള് സമ്മതിക്ക; ഇങ്ങനെ സകലനീതിയും നിവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു നമുക്കു ഉചിതം എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാറെ അവന് അവനെ സമ്മതിച്ചു.

15. So Jesus replied to him, 'Let it happen now, for it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.' Then John yielded to him.

16. യേശു സ്നാനം ഏറ്റ ഉടനെ വെള്ളത്തില്നിന്നു കയറി അപ്പോള് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു ദൈവാത്മാവു പ്രാവെന്നപോലെ ഇറങ്ങി തന്റെ മേല് വരുന്നതു അവന് കണ്ടു;

16. After Jesus was baptized, just as he was coming up out of the water, the heavens opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming on him.

17. ഇവന് എന്റെ പ്രിയ പുത്രന് ; ഇവനില് ഞാന് പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് നിന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദവും ഉണ്ടായി.

17. And a voice from heaven said, 'This is my one dear Son; in him I take great delight.'
