1. ആ കാലത്തു യോഹന്നാന് സ്നാപകന് വന്നു, യെഹൂദ്യമരുഭൂമിയില് പ്രസംഗിച്ചു

1. In those days John the Baptist came and preached in the Desert of Judea.

2. സ്വര്ഗ്ഗ രാജ്യം സമീപിച്ചിരിക്കയാല് മാനസാന്തരപ്പെടുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

2. He said, 'Turn away from your sins! The kingdom of heaven is near.'

3. “മരുഭൂമിയില് വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതുകര്ത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കി അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിന് ” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാ പ്രവാചകന് പറഞ്ഞവന് ഇവന് തന്നേ.

3. John is the one the prophet Isaiah had spoken about. He had said, 'A messenger is calling out in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord. Make straight paths for him.' ' --(Isaiah 40:3)

4. യോഹന്നാന്നു ഒട്ടക രോമംകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഉടുപ്പും അരയില് തോല്വാറും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ആഹാരമോ വെട്ടുക്കിളിയും കാട്ടുതേനും ആയിരുന്നു.

4. John's clothes were made out of camel's hair. He had a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.

5. അന്നു യെരൂശലേമ്യരും യെഹൂദ്യദേശക്കാരൊക്കയും യോര്ദ്ദാന്റെ ഇരുകരെയുമുള്ള എല്ലാ നാട്ടുകാരും പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു

5. People went out to him from Jerusalem and all of Judea. They also came from the whole area around the Jordan River.

6. When they admitted they had sinned, John baptized them in the Jordan.

7. John saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing. He said to them, 'You are like a nest of poisonous snakes! Who warned you to escape the coming of God's anger?

8. Produce fruit that shows you have turned away from your sins.

9. അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടു ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഉള്ളം കൊണ്ടു പറവാന് തുനിയരുതു; ഈ കല്ലുകളില് നിന്നു അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

9. Don't think you can say to yourselves, 'Abraham is our father.' I tell you, God can raise up children for Abraham even from these stones.

10. ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ലഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയില് ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.

10. The ax is already lying at the roots of the trees. All the trees that don't produce good fruit will be cut down. They will be thrown into the fire.

11. ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നായി വെള്ളത്തില് സ്നാനം ഏല്പിക്കുന്നതേയുള്ളു; എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നവനോ എന്നെക്കാള് ബലവാന് ആകുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പു ചുമപ്പാന് ഞാന് മതിയായവനല്ല; അവന് നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവിലും തീയിലും സ്നാനം ഏല്പിക്കും.

11. I baptize you with water, calling you to turn away from your sins. But after me, one will come who is more powerful than I am. And I'm not fit to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

12. വീശുമുറം അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടു; അവന് കളത്തെ മുറ്റും വെടിപ്പാക്കി കോതമ്പു കളപ്പുരയില് കൂട്ടിവെക്കയും പതിര് കെടാത്ത തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും ചെയ്യും.

12. His pitchfork is in his hand to clear the straw from his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the storeroom. But he will burn up the husks with fire that can't be put out.'

13. അനന്തരം യേശു യോഹന്നാനാല് സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുവാന് ഗലീലയില് നിന്നു യോര്ദ്ദാന് കരെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

13. Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan River. He wanted to be baptized by John.

14. യോഹന്നാനോ അവനെ വിലക്കിനിന്നാല് സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുവാന് എനിക്കു ആവശ്യം; പിന്നെ നീ എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നുവോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. But John tried to stop him. He told Jesus, 'I need to be baptized by you. So why do you come to me?'

15. യേശു അവനോടുഇപ്പോള് സമ്മതിക്ക; ഇങ്ങനെ സകലനീതിയും നിവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നതു നമുക്കു ഉചിതം എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു; എന്നാറെ അവന് അവനെ സമ്മതിച്ചു.

15. Jesus replied, 'Let it be this way for now. It is right for us to do this. It carries out God's holy plan.' Then John agreed.

16. യേശു സ്നാനം ഏറ്റ ഉടനെ വെള്ളത്തില്നിന്നു കയറി അപ്പോള് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു ദൈവാത്മാവു പ്രാവെന്നപോലെ ഇറങ്ങി തന്റെ മേല് വരുന്നതു അവന് കണ്ടു;

16. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he came up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened. Jesus saw the Spirit of God coming down on him like a dove.

17. A voice from heaven said, 'This is my Son, and I love him. I am very pleased with him.'
