1. നമ്മില് വസിക്കുന്നതും നമ്മോടുകൂടെ എന്നേക്കും ഇരിക്കുന്നതുമായ സത്യംനിമിത്തം ഞാന് മാത്രമല്ല,

1. The elder unto the chosen lady and her sons, whom I love in the truth, and not I only, but also all those that have known the truth,

2. സത്യത്തെ അറിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നവര് എല്ലാവരും സത്യത്തില് സ്നേഹിക്കുന്ന മാന്യനായകിയാര്ക്കും മക്കള്ക്കും മൂപ്പനായ ഞാന് എഴുതുന്നതു

2. for the truth's sake, which abides in us and shall be with us for ever.

3. പിതാവായ ദൈവത്തിങ്കല്നിന്നും പിതാവിന്റെ പുത്രനായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിങ്കല്നിന്നും സ്നേഹത്തിലും സത്യത്തിലും കൃപയും കനിവും സമാധാനവും നമ്മോടു കൂടെ ഇരിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ.

3. Grace be with you, mercy [and] peace, from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and charity.

4. നമുക്കു പിതാവിങ്കല്നിന്നു കല്പന ലഭിച്ചതുപോലെ അവിടത്തെ മക്കളില് ചിലര് സത്യത്തില് നടക്കുന്നതു ഞാന് കണ്ടു അത്യന്തം സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

4. I have rejoiced greatly, for I have found of thy sons that they walk in the truth, as we have received the commandment from the Father.

5. ഇനി നായകിയാരേ, നാം അന്യോന്യം സ്നേഹിക്കേണം എന്നു പുതിയ കല്പനയായിട്ടല്ല, ആദിമുതല് നമുക്കു ഉള്ളതായിട്ടു തന്നേ ഞാന് അവിടത്തേക്കു എഴുതി അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

5. And now I beseech thee, lady, (not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning) that we love one another.

6. നാം അവന്റെ കല്പനകളെ അനുസരിച്ചുനടക്കുന്നതു തന്നേ സ്നേഹം ആകുന്നു. നിങ്ങള് ആദിമുതല് കേട്ടതുപോലെ അനുസരിച്ചുനടപ്പാനുള്ള കല്പന ഇതത്രേ.

6. And this is charity, that we walk after his commandment. And this is the commandment, That ye walk in him, as ye have heard from the beginning.

7. യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിനെ ജഡത്തില് വന്നവന് എന്നു സ്വീകരിക്കാത്ത വഞ്ചകന്മാര് പലരും ലോകത്തിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ. വഞ്ചകനും എതിര്ക്രിസ്തുവും ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ളവന് ആകുന്നു.

7. For many deceivers are entered into the world, who do not confess Jesus Christ coming in flesh. This same is a deceiver and antichrist.

8. ഞങ്ങളുടെ പ്രയത്നഫലം കളയാതെ പൂര്ണ്ണപ്രതിഫലം പ്രാപിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു സൂക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്വിന് .

8. Look to yourselves, that we not lose those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a fulfilled reward.

9. ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ഉപദേശത്തില് നിലനില്ക്കാതെ അതിര് കടന്നുപോകുന്ന ഒരുത്തന്നും ദൈവം ഇല്ല; ഉപദേശത്തില് നിലനിലക്കുന്നവന്നോ പിതാവും പുത്രനും ഉണ്ടു.

9. Whosoever rebels and does not abide in the doctrine of the Christ, does not have God. He that abides in the doctrine of the Christ, the same has the Father and the Son.

10. ഒരുത്തന് ഈ ഉപദേശവുംകൊണ്ടു അല്ലാതെ നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുവെങ്കില് അവനെ വീട്ടില് കൈക്കൊള്ളരുതു; അവന്നു കുശലം പറകയും അരുതു.

10. If anyone comes unto you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into [your] house neither say unto him, Welcome:

11. അവന്നു കുശലം പറയുന്നവന് അവന്റെ ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തികള്ക്കു കൂട്ടാളിയല്ലോ.

11. For he that says unto him, Welcome, is partaker of his evil deeds.

12. നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എഴുതുവാന് പലതും ഉണ്ടുഎങ്കിലും കടലാസ്സിലും മഷികൊണ്ടും എഴുതുവാന് എനിക്കു മനസ്സില്ല. നിങ്ങളുടെ സന്തോഷം പൂര്ണ്ണമാകേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു മുഖാമുഖമായി സംസാരിപ്പാന് ആശിക്കുന്നു.

12. Having many things to write unto you, I would not [write] with paper and ink, but I trust to come unto you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

13. അവിടത്തെ മാന്യസഹോദരിയുടെ മക്കള് വന്ദനം ചൊല്ലുന്നു.

13. The sons of thy chosen sister greet thee. Amen.:
