1. കനാനിലെ യുദ്ധങ്ങളൊന്നും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്ത യിസ്രായേലിനെ ഒക്കെയും പരീക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും

1. Now these {are} the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, ({even} as many {of Israel} as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

2. യുദ്ധം അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്ത യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളുടെ തലമുറകളെ യുദ്ധം അഭ്യസിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നുമായി യഹോവ വെച്ചിരുന്ന ജാതികളാവിതു

2. Only that the generations of the children of Israel might know to teach them war, at the least such as before knew nothing of it;)

3. ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ അഞ്ചു പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും എല്ലാ കനാന്യരും സീദോന്യരും ബാല് ഹെര്മ്മോന് പര്വ്വതംമുതല് ഹമാത്തിലേക്കുള്ള പ്രവേശനംവരെ ലെബാനോന് പര്വ്വതത്തില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന ഹിവ്യരും തന്നേ.

3. {Namely}, five lords of the Philistines, and all the Canaanites, and the Sidonians, and the Hivites that dwelt on mount Lebanon, from mount Baal-hermon to the entrance of Hamath.

4. മോശെമുഖാന്തരം യഹോവ അവരുടെ പിതാക്കന്മാരോടു കല്പിച്ച കല്പനകള് അനുസരിക്കുമോ എന്നു അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേലിനെ പരീക്ഷിച്ചറിവാന് ആയിരുന്നു ഇവരെ വെച്ചിരുന്നതു.

4. And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken to the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

5. കനാന്യര്, ഹിത്യര്, അമോര്യ്യര്, പെരിസ്യര്, ഹിവ്യര്, യെബൂസ്യര് എന്നിവരുടെ ഇടയില് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് പാര്ത്തു.

5. And the children of Israel dwelt among the Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites:

6. അവരുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ തങ്ങള്ക്കു ഭാര്യമാരായിട്ടു എടുക്കയും തങ്ങളുടെ പുത്രിമാരെ അവരുടെ പുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും കൊടുക്കയും അവരുടെ ദേവന്മാരെ സേവിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

6. And they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons, and served their gods.

7. ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു തങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ മറന്നു ബാല്വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും അശേരപ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും സേവിച്ചു.

7. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and forgot the LORD their God, and served Baalim, and the groves.

8. അതുകൊണ്ടു യഹോവയുടെ കോപം യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ ജ്വലിച്ചു; അവന് അവരെ മെസോപൊത്താമ്യയിലെ ഒരു രാജാവായ കൂശന് രീശാഥയീമിന്നു വിറ്റുകളഞ്ഞു; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് കൂശന് രിശാഥയീമിനെ എട്ടു സംവത്സരം സേവിച്ചു.

8. Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.

9. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചപ്പോള് യഹോവ കാലേബിന്റെ അനുജനായ കെനസിന്റെ മകന് ഒത്നിയേലിനെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ക്കു രക്ഷകനായി എഴുന്നേല്പിച്ചു; അവന് അവരെ രക്ഷിച്ചു.

9. And when the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised up a deliverer to the children of Israel, who delivered them, {even} Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother.

10. അവന്റെ മേല് യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു വന്നു; അവന് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായാധിപനായി യുദ്ധത്തിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടാറെ യഹോവ മെസോപൊത്താമ്യയിലെ രാജാവായ കൂശന് രിശാഥയീമിനെ അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവന് കൂശന് രീശാഥയീമിനെ ജയിച്ചു.

10. And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war: and the LORD delivered Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-rishathaim.

11. ദേശത്തിന്നു നാല്പതു സംവത്സരം സ്വസ്ഥത ഉണ്ടായി.

11. And the land had rest forty years: and Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

12. കെനസിന്റെ മകനായ ഒത്നീയേല് മരിച്ചശേഷം യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് വീണ്ടും യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്തു; അവര് യഹോവേക്കു അനിഷ്ടമായുള്ളതു ചെയ്കകൊണ്ടു യഹോവ മോവാബ്രാജാവായ എഗ്ളോനെ യിസ്രായേലിന്നു വിരോധമായി ബലപ്പെടുത്തി.

12. And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.

13. അവന് അമ്മോന്യരെയും അമാലേക്യരെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവന്നു യിസ്രായേലിനെ തോല്പിച്ചു, അവര് ഈന്തപട്ടണവും കൈവശമാക്കി.

13. And he gathered to him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm-trees.

14. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല് മക്കള് മോവാബ് രാജാവായ എഗ്ളോനെ പതിനെട്ടു സംവത്സരം സേവിച്ചു.

14. So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

15. യിസ്രായേല് മക്കള് യഹോയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചപ്പോള് യഹോവ അവര്ക്കും ബെന്യാമീന്യനായ ഗേരയുടെ മകനായി ഇടങ്കയ്യനായ ഏഹൂദിനെ രക്ഷകനായി എഴുന്നേല്പിച്ചു; അവന്റെ കൈവശം യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് മോവാബ് രാജാവായ എഗ്ളോന്നു കാഴ്ച കൊടുത്തയച്ചു.

15. But when the children of Israel cried to the LORD, the LORD raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjaminite, a man left-handed: and by him the children of Israel sent a present to Eglon king of Moab.

16. എന്നാല് ഏഹൂദ്, ഇരുവായ്ത്തലയും ഒരു മുഴം നീളവും ഉള്ള ഒരു ചുരിക ഉണ്ടാക്കി; അതു വസ്ത്രത്തിന്റെ ഉള്ളില് വലത്തെ തുടെക്കു കെട്ടി.

16. But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right thigh.

17. അവന് മോവാബ് രാജാവായ എഗ്ളോന്റെ അടുക്കല് കാഴ്ച കൊണ്ടു ചെന്നു; എഗ്ളോന് ഏറ്റവും സ്ഥൂലിച്ചവന് ആയിരുന്നു.

17. And he brought the present to Eglon king of Moab: and Eglon {was} a very fat man.

18. കാഴ്ചവെച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം കാഴ്ച ചുമന്നുകൊണ്ടു വന്നവരെ അവന് അയച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

18. And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that bore the present.

19. എന്നാല് അവന് ഗില്ഗാലിന്നരികെയുള്ള വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളുടെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നുരാജാവേ, എനിക്കു ഒരു സ്വകാര്യം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ക്ഷമിക്ക എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു; ഉടനെ അടുക്കല് നിന്നിരുന്ന എല്ലാവരും അവനെ വിട്ടു പുറത്തുപോയി.

19. But he himself turned again from the quarries that {were} by Gilgal, and said, I have a secret errand to thee, O king: who said, Keep silence. And all that stood by him went out from him.

20. ഏഹൂദ് അടുത്തുചെന്നു. എന്നാല് അവന് തന്റെ ഗ്രീഷ്മഗൃഹത്തില് തനിച്ചു ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു. എനിക്കു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടു അറിയിപ്പാന് ഉണ്ടു എന്നു ഏഹൂദ് പറഞ്ഞു; ഉടനെ അവന് ആസനത്തില്നിന്നു എഴുന്നേറ്റു.

20. And Ehud came to him; and he was sitting in a summer-parlor, which he had for himself alone: and Ehud said, I have a message from God to thee. And he arose from {his} seat.

21. എന്നാറെ ഏഹൂദ് ഇടങ്കൈ നീട്ടി വലത്തെ തുടയില് നിന്നു ചുരിക ഊരി അവന്റെ വയറ്റില് കുത്തിക്കടത്തി.

21. And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly:

22. അലകോടുകൂടെ പിടിയും അകത്തു ചെന്നു; അവന്റെ വയറ്റില്നിന്നു ചുരിക അവന് വലിച്ചെടുക്കായ്കയാല് മേദസ്സു അലകിന്മേല് പൊതിഞ്ഞടെഞ്ഞു, അതു പൃഷ്ഠഭാഗത്തു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

22. And the haft also entered after the blade: and the fat closed upon the blade, so that he could not draw the dagger out of his belly; and the dirt came out.

23. പിന്നെ ഏഹൂദ് പൂമുഖത്തു ഇറങ്ങി പുറകെ മാളികയുടെ വാതില് അടെച്ചുപൂട്ടി.

23. Then Ehud went forth through the porch, and shut the doors of the parlor upon him, and locked them.

24. അവന് പുറത്തു ഇറങ്ങിപ്പോയശേഷം എഗ്ളോന്റെ ഭൃത്യന്മാര് വന്നു; അവര് നോക്കി മാളികയുടെ വാതില് പൂട്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടപ്പോള്അവന് ഗ്രീഷ്മഗൃഹത്തില് വിസര്ജ്ജനത്തിന്നു ഇരിക്കയായിരിക്കും എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു.

24. When he had gone out, his servants came; and when they saw that, behold, the doors of the parlor {were} locked, they said, Surely he covereth his feet in his summer-chamber.

25. അവര് കാത്തിരുന്നു വിഷമിച്ചു; അവന് മുറിയുടെ വാതില് തുറക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു അവര് താക്കോല് എടുത്തു തുറന്നു;

25. And they tarried till they were ashamed: and behold, he opened not the doors of the parlor, therefore they took a key and opened {them}: and behold, their lord lay dead on the earth.

26. തമ്പുരാന് നിലത്തു മരിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു. എന്നാല് അവര് കാത്തിരുന്നതിന്നിടയില് ഏഹൂദ് ഔടിപ്പോയി വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെ കടന്നു സെയീരയില് ചെന്നുചേര്ന്നു.

26. And Ehud escaped while they tarried; and passed beyond the quarries, and escaped to Seirath.

27. അവിടെ എത്തിയശേഷം അവന് എഫ്രയീംപര്വ്വതത്തില് കാഹളം ഊതി; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് അവനോടുകൂടെ പര്വ്വതത്തില്നിന്നു ഇറങ്ങി അവന് അവര്ക്കും നായകനായി.

27. And it came to pass when he had come, that he blew a trumpet in the mountain of Ephraim, and the children of Israel went down with him from the mount, and he before them.

28. അവന് അവരോടുഎന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുവിന് ; ശത്രുക്കളായ മോവാബ്യരെ യഹോവ നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അവര് അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു മോവാബിന്നു നേരെയുള്ള യോര്ദ്ദാന്റെ കടവുകള് പിടിച്ചു; ആരെയും കടപ്പാന് സമ്മതിച്ചതുമില്ല.

28. And he said to them, Follow me: for the LORD hath delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand. And they went down after him, and took the fords of Jordan towards Moab, and suffered not a man to pass over.

29. അവര് ആ സമയം മോവാബ്യരില് ഏകദേശം പതിനായിരം പേരെ വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു; അവര് എല്ലാവരും ബലവാന്മാരും യുദ്ധവീരന്മാരും ആയിരുന്നു;

29. And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valor: and there escaped not a man.

30. ഒരുത്തനും ചാടിപ്പോയില്ല. അങ്ങനെ ആ കാലത്തു മോവാബ് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു കീഴടങ്ങി; ദേശത്തിന്നു എണ്പതു സംവത്സരം സ്വസ്ഥതയുണ്ടാകയും ചെയ്തു..

30. So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel: and the land had rest eighty years.

31. അവന്റെ ശേഷം അനാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ ശംഗര് എഴുന്നേറ്റു; അവന് ഒരു മുടിങ്കോല്കൊണ്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരില് അറുനൂറുപേരെ കൊന്നു; അവനും യിസ്രായേലിനെ രക്ഷിച്ചു.

31. And after him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox-goad; and he also delivered Israel.
