1. അനന്തരം ഗിദെയോന് എന്ന യെരുബ്ബാലും അവനോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ജനം ഒക്കെയും അതികാലത്തു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഹരോദ് ഉറവിന്നരികെ പാളയമിറങ്ങി; മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ പാളയമോ അവര്ക്കും വടക്കു മോരേകുന്നിന്നരികെ താഴ്വരയില് ആയിരുന്നു.

1. Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him got up early and set up their tents beside the well of Harod. The tents of Midian were north of them, by the hill of Moreh in the valley.

2. യഹോവ ഗിദെയോനോടുനിന്നോടു കൂടെയുള്ള ജനം അധികമാകുന്നു; എന്റെ കൈ എന്നെ രക്ഷിച്ചു എന്നു യിസ്രായേല് എന്റെ നേരെ വമ്പുപറയാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് മിദ്യാന്യരെ ഇവരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കയില്ല.

2. The Lord said to Gideon, 'The people with you are too many for Me to give Midian into their hands. Israel might say with pride, 'Our own power has saved us.'

3. ആകയാല് നീ ചെന്നു ആര്ക്കെങ്കിലും ഭയവും ഭീരുതയുമുണ്ടെങ്കില് അവന് ഗിലെയാദ് പര്വ്വതത്തില്നിന്നു മടങ്ങിപ്പെയ്ക്കൊള്ളട്ടെ എന്നു ജനത്തില് പ്രസിദ്ധപ്പെടുത്തുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു. എന്നാറെ ജനത്തില് ഇരുപത്തീരായിരം പേര് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി; പതിനായിരംപേര് ശേഷിച്ചു.

3. So say to all the people, 'Whoever is afraid and shaking with fear may leave Mount Gilead and return home.' ' So 22,000 people returned. But 10,000 stayed.

4. യഹോവ പിന്നെയും ഗിദെയോനോടുജനം ഇനിയും അധികം ആകുന്നു; അവരെ വെള്ളത്തിങ്കലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോക; അവിടെ വെച്ചു ഞാന് അവരെ പരിശോധിച്ചുതരാം; ഇവന് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരട്ടെ എന്നു ഞാന് കല്പിക്കുന്നവന് പോരട്ടെ; ഇവന് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരേണ്ടാ എന്നു ഞാന് കല്പിക്കുന്നവന് പോരേണ്ടാ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

4. Then the Lord said to Gideon, 'There are still too many people. Bring them down to the water. I will test them for you there. Whoever I say is to go with you will go. But whoever I say is not to go with you will not go.'

5. അങ്ങനെ അവന് ജനത്തെ വെള്ളത്തിങ്കലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി; യഹോവ ഗിദെയോനോടുപട്ടി നക്കിക്കുടിക്കുംപോലെ നാവുകൊണ്ടു വെള്ളം നിക്കിക്കുടിക്കുന്നവരെയൊക്കെ വേറെയും കുടിപ്പാന് മുട്ടുകുത്തി കുനിയുന്നവരെയൊക്കെ വേറയും നിര്ത്തുക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

5. So Gideon brought the people down to the water. The Lord said to Gideon, 'Divide every man who drinks the water as dogs drink with their tongues from every man who gets down on his knees to drink.'

6. കൈ വായക്കു വെച്ചു നക്കിക്കുടിച്ചവര് ആകെ മുന്നൂറുപേര് ആയിരുന്നു; ശേഷം ജനമൊക്കെയും വെള്ളം കുടിപ്പാന് മുട്ടുകുത്തി കുനിഞ്ഞു.

6. There were 300 men who drank from their hand, putting their hand to their mouth. But all the rest of the people got down on their knees to drink water.

7. യഹോവ ഗിദെയോനോടുനക്കിക്കുടിച്ച മുന്നൂറു പേരെക്കൊണ്ടു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിച്ചു മിദ്യാന്യരെ നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിക്കും; ശേഷം ജനമൊക്കെയും താന്താങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോകട്ടെ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

7. The Lord said to Gideon, 'I will save you with the 300 men who drank from their hands. I will give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others return, every man to his home.'

8. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ജനത്തിന്റെ ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങളും കാഹളങ്ങളും വാങ്ങി; ശേഷം യിസ്രായേല്യരെയൊക്കെയും അവന് വീട്ടിലേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയക്കയും ആ മുന്നൂറുപേരെ നിര്ത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. എന്നാല് മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ പാളയം താഴെ സമഭൂമിയില് ആയിരുന്നു.

8. So the 300 men took the people's food and their horns. Gideon sent all the other men of Israel to their tents. He kept only the 300 men. And the tents of Midian were below him in the valley.

9. അന്നു രാത്രി യഹോവ അവനോടു കല്പിച്ചതുഎഴുന്നേറ്റു പാളയത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുക; ഞാന് അതു നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

9. That same night the Lord said to Gideon, 'Get up. Go down and fight against them at their tents. For I have given them into your hands.

10. ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുവാന് നിനക്കു പേടിയുണ്ടെങ്കില് നീയും നിന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരനായ പൂരയുംകൂടെ പാളയത്തിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുക.

10. But if you are afraid to go down, go with your servant Purah down to their tents.

11. എന്നാല് അവര് സംസാരിക്കുന്നതു എന്തെന്നു നീ കേള്ക്കും; അതിന്റെ ശേഷം പാളയത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെല്ലുവാന് നിനക്കു ധൈര്യം വരും. അങ്ങനെ അവനും അവന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരനായ പൂരയും പാളയത്തില് ആയുധപാണികളുടെ സമീപത്തോളം ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു.

11. You will hear what they say. Then your hands will become strong enough to go down and fight against them.' So he went with his servant Purah down to the side of the tents where soldiers were keeping watch.

12. എന്നാല് മിദ്യാന്യരും അമാലേക്യരും കിഴക്കു ദേശക്കാരൊക്കെയും വെട്ടുക്കിളി എന്നപോലെ അസംഖ്യമായി താഴ്വരയില് കിടന്നിരുന്നു; അവരുടെ ഒട്ടകങ്ങളും കടല്ക്കരയിലെ മണല്പോലെ അസംഖ്യം ആയിരുന്നു.

12. The Midianites and Amalekites and all the people of the east were lying in the valley. They were like locusts, there were so many. Their camels were too many to number. They were like sand beside the sea, there were so many.

13. ഗിദെയോന് ചെല്ലുമ്പോള് ഒരുത്തന് മറ്റൊരുത്തനോടു ഒരു സ്വപന്ം വിവരിക്കയായിരുന്നുഞാന് ഒരു സ്വപ്നം കണ്ടു; ഒരു യവയപ്പം മിദ്യാന്യരുടെ പാളയത്തിലേക്കു ഉരുണ്ടു വന്നു കൂടാരംവരെ എത്തി അതിനെ തള്ളി മറിച്ചിട്ടു അങ്ങനെ കൂടാരം വീണുകിടന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു മറ്റവന്

13. When Gideon came, a man was telling a dream to his friend. The man said, 'I had a dream. A loaf of barley bread was rolling toward the tents of Midian. It came to the tent and hit it so it fell down. It turned it up-side-down so the tent fell apart.'

14. ഇതു യോവാശിന്റെ മകനായ ഗിദെയോന് എന്ന യിസ്രായേല്യന്റെ വാളല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നുമല്ല; ദൈവം മിദ്യാനെയും ഈ പാളയത്തെ ഒക്കെയും അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

14. His friend answered and said, 'This is nothing else but the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. God has given Midian and all the army into his hand.'

15. ഗിദെയോന് സ്വപ്നവും പൊരുളും കേട്ടപ്പോള് നമസ്കരിച്ചു; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ പാളയത്തില് മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നുഎഴുന്നേല്പിന് , യഹോവ മിദ്യാന്റെ പാളയത്തെ നിങ്ങളുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. When Gideon heard the story of the dream and what it meant, he bowed down and worshiped God. Then he returned to the tents of Israel and said, 'Get up! For the Lord has given the army of Midian into your hands.'

16. അനന്തരം അവന് ആ മുന്നൂറുപേരെ മൂന്നുകൂട്ടമായി വിഭാഗിച്ചു ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ കയ്യില് ഔരോ കാഹളവും വെറുംകുടവും കുടത്തിന്നകത്തു ഔരോ പന്തവും കൊടുത്തു, അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതു.

16. He divided the 300 men into three groups. He gave horns and empty pots with fire sticks inside to each of them.

17. ഞാന് ചെയ്യുന്നതു നോക്കി അതുപോലെ ചെയ്വിന് ; പാളയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റത്തു എത്തുമ്പോള് ഞാന് ചെയ്യുന്നതുപോലെ നിങ്ങളും ചെയ്വിന് ,

17. And he said to them, 'Watch me, and do what I do. When I come to the side of their tents, do as I do.

18. ഞാനും എന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ളവരും കാഹളം ഊതുമ്പോള് നിങ്ങളും പാളയത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റും നിന്നു കാഹളം ഊതിയഹോവേക്കും ഗിദെയോന്നും വേണ്ടി എന്നു പറവിന് .

18. I and all those with me will blow the horns. Then you blow the horns all around the tents, and say, 'For the Lord and for Gideon!' '

19. മദ്ധ്യയാമത്തിന്റെ ആരംഭത്തില് അവര് കാവല് മാറി നിര്ത്തിയ ഉടനെ ഗിദെയോനും കൂടെയുള്ള നൂറുപേരും പാളയത്തിന്റെ അറ്റത്തു എത്തി കാഹളം ഊതി കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന കുടങ്ങള് ഉടെച്ചു.

19. So Gideon and the 100 men who were with him came to the side of the tents. It was late in the night. Different soldiers had just come to keep watch. Then the men blew the horns and broke the pots that were in their hands.

20. മൂന്നു കൂട്ടവും കാഹളം ഊതി കുടങ്ങള് ഉടെച്ചു; ഇടത്തു കയ്യില് പന്തവും വലത്തു കയ്യില് ഊതുവാന് കാഹളവും പിടിച്ചുയഹോവേക്കും ഗിദെയോന്നും വേണ്ടി വാള് എന്നു ആര്ത്തു.

20. All three groups blew their horns and broke their pots. They held the sticks of fire in their left hands and horns to be blown in their right hands. And they called out, 'A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!'

21. അവര് പാളയത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റും ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ നിലയില് തന്നേ നിന്നു; പാളയമെല്ലാം പാച്ചല് തുടങ്ങി; അവര് നിലവിളിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഔടിപ്പോയി.

21. Each man stood in his place around the tents. And all the Midianite army ran. They cried out and ran away.

22. ആ മുന്നൂറുപേരും കാഹളം ഊതിയപ്പോള് യഹോവ പാളയത്തിലൊക്കെയും ഔരോരുത്തന്റെ വാള് താന്താന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ നേരെ തിരിപ്പിച്ചു; സൈന്യം സെരേരാവഴിയായി ബേത്ത്--ശിത്താവരെയും തബ്ബത്തിന്നരികെയുള്ള ആബേല്-മെഹോലയുടെ അതിര്വരെയും ഔടിപ്പോയി.

22. When the 300 horns were blown, the Lord made every man fight the man next to him among the tents. And the army ran away as far as Beth-shittah toward Zererah. They went as far as the land of Abel-meholah, by Tabbath.

23. യിസ്രായേല്യര് നഫ്താലിയില്നിന്നും ആശേരില്നിന്നും മനശ്ശെയില്നിന്നൊക്കെയും ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി മിദ്യാന്യരെ പിന് തുടര്ന്നു.

23. The men of Israel were called out from Naphtali and Asher and all Manasseh, to go after Midian.

24. ഗിദെയോന് എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടില് എല്ലാടവും ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചുമിദ്യാന്യരുടെ നേരെ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു ബേത്ത്--ബാരാവരെയുള്ള വെള്ളത്തെയും യോര്ദ്ദാനെയും അവര്ക്കും മുമ്പെ കൈവശമാക്കിക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു പറയിച്ചു. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ എഫ്രയീമ്യര് ഒക്കെയും ഒരുമിച്ചുകൂടി ബേത്ത്--ബാരാവരെയുള്ള വെള്ളവും യോര്ദ്ദാനും കൈവശമാക്കി.

24. Gideon sent men through all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, 'Come down against Midian. Take the waters in front of them, as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.' So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together. And they took the waters as far as Beth-barah and the Jordan.

25. ഔരേബ്, ശേബ് എന്ന രണ്ടു മിദ്യാന്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെ അവര് പിടിച്ചു, ഔരേബിനെ ഔരേബ് പാറമേലും സേബിനെ സേബ് മുന്തിരിച്ചക്കിന്നരികെയും വെച്ചു കൊന്നിട്ടു മിദ്യാന്യരെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു, ഔരേബിന്റെയും സേബിന്റെയും തല യോര്ദ്ദാന്നക്കരെ ഗിദെയോന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

25. They took the two leaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb. And they killed Zeeb at the place of Zeeb where the grapes are crushed. They went after Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon from the other side of the Jordan.
