1. കിര്യ്യത്ത്-യെയാരീംനിവാസികള് വന്നു യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു കുന്നിന്മേല് അബീനാദാബിന്റെ വീട്ടില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി; അവന്റെ മകനായ എലെയാസാരിനെ യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകം സൂക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു.

1. So the people of Kiriath Jearim got the LORD's Covenant Box and took it to the house of a man named Abinadab, who lived on a hill. They consecrated his son Eleazar to be in charge of it.

2. പെട്ടകം കിര്യ്യത്ത്-യെയാരീമില് ആയിട്ടു ഏറിയകാലം, ഇരുപതു സംവത്സരം തന്നേ, കഴിഞ്ഞു; യിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹമൊക്കെയും യഹോവയോടു വിലപിച്ചു.

2. The Covenant Box of the LORD stayed in Kiriath Jearim a long time, some twenty years. During this time all the Israelites cried to the LORD for help.

3. അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹത്തോടുംനിങ്ങള് പൂര്ണ്ണഹൃദയത്തോടെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിയുന്നു എങ്കില് അന്യ ദൈവങ്ങളെയും അസ്തോരെത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ യഹോവയിങ്കലേക്കു തിരിക്കയും അവനെ മാത്രം സേവിക്കയും ചെയ്വിന് ; എന്നാല് അവന് നിങ്ങളെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. Samuel said to the people of Israel, 'If you are going to turn to the LORD with all your hearts, you must get rid of all the foreign gods and the images of the goddess Astarte. Dedicate yourselves completely to the LORD and worship only him, and he will rescue you from the power of the Philistines.'

4. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ബാല്വിഗ്രഹങ്ങളെയും അസ്തോരെത്ത് പ്രതിഷ്ഠകളെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു യഹോവയെ മാത്രം സേവിച്ചു.

4. So the Israelites got rid of their idols of Baal and Astarte, and worshiped only the LORD.

5. അനന്തരം ശമൂവേല്എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിനെയും മിസ്പയില് കൂട്ടുവിന് ; ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു വേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Then Samuel called for all the Israelites to meet at Mizpah, telling them, 'I will pray to the LORD for you there.'

6. അവര് മിസ്പയില് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി; വെള്ളം കോരി യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ഒഴിച്ചു ആ ദിവസം ഉപവസിച്ചുഞങ്ങള് യഹോവയോടു പാപം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവിടെവെച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് മിസ്പയില്വെച്ചു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ക്കു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

6. So they all gathered at Mizpah. They drew some water and poured it out as an offering to the LORD and fasted that whole day. They said, 'We have sinned against the LORD.' (It was at Mizpah where Samuel settled disputes among the Israelites.)

7. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് മിസ്പയില് ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി എന്നു ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് കേട്ടപ്പോള് ഫെലിസ്ത്യപ്രഭുക്കന്മാര് യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ നേരെ പുറപ്പെട്ടുവന്നു; യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് അതു കേട്ടിട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

7. When the Philistines heard that the Israelites had gathered at Mizpah, the five Philistine kings started out with their men to attack them. The Israelites heard about it and were afraid,

8. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ശമൂവേലിനോടുനമ്മുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ ഞങ്ങളെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു രക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു വേണ്ടി അവനോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുന്നതു മതിയാക്കരുതേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. and said to Samuel, 'Keep praying to the LORD our God to save us from the Philistines.'

9. അപ്പോള് ശമൂവേല് പാല് കുടിക്കുന്ന ഒരു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ എടുത്തു യഹോവേക്കു സര്വ്വാംഗഹോമം കഴിച്ചു. ശമൂവേല് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു വേണ്ടി യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു; യഹോവ ഉത്തരമരുളി.

9. Samuel killed a young lamb and burned it whole as a sacrifice to the LORD. Then he prayed to the LORD to help Israel, and the LORD answered his prayer.

10. While Samuel was offering the sacrifice, the Philistines moved forward to attack; but just then the LORD thundered from heaven against them. They became completely confused and fled in panic.

11. യിസ്രായേല്യര് മിസ്പയില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു; ബേത്ത്-കാരിന്റെ താഴെവരെ അവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

11. The Israelites marched out from Mizpah and pursued the Philistines almost as far as Bethcar, killing them along the way.

12. പിന്നെ ശമൂവേല് ഒരു കല്ലു എടുത്തു മിസ്പെക്കും ശേനിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ നാട്ടിഇത്രത്തോളം യഹോവ നമ്മെ സഹായിച്ചു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അതിന്നു ഏബെന് -ഏസെര് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

12. Then Samuel took a stone, set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and said, 'The LORD has helped us all the way'---and he named it 'Stone of Help.'

13. ഇങ്ങനെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ഒതുങ്ങി, പിന്നെ യിസ്രായേല്ദേശത്തേക്കു വന്നതുമില്ല; ശമൂവേലിന്റെ കാലത്തൊക്കെയും യഹോവയുടെ കൈ ഫെലിസ്ത്യര്ക്കും വിരോധമായിരുന്നു.

13. So the Philistines were defeated, and the LORD prevented them from invading Israel's territory as long as Samuel lived.

14. എക്രോന് മുതല് ഗത്ത്വരെ ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് യിസ്രായേലിനോടു പിടിച്ചിരുന്ന പട്ടണങ്ങള് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു തിരികെ കിട്ടി; അവയുടെ അതിര്നാടുകളും യിസ്രായേല് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വിടുവിച്ചു. യിസ്രായേലും അമോര്യ്യരും തമ്മില് സമാധാനമായിരുന്നു.

14. All the cities which the Philistines had captured between Ekron and Gath were returned to Israel, and so Israel got back all its territory. And there was peace also between the Israelites and the Canaanites.

15. ശമൂവേല് ജീവപര്യന്തം യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തു.

15. Samuel ruled Israel as long as he lived.

16. അവന് ആണ്ടുതോറും ബേഥേലിലും ഗില്ഗാലിലും മിസ്പയിലും ചുറ്റിസഞ്ചരിച്ചു, അവിടങ്ങളില്വെച്ചു യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം ചെയ്തിട്ടു രാമയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോരും;

16. Every year he would go around to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah, and in these places he would settle disputes.

17. അവിടെയായിരുന്നു അവന്റെ വീടുഅവിടെവെച്ചും അവന് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ന്യായപാലനം നടത്തിവന്നു; യഹോവേക്കു അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠവും പണിതിരുന്നു.

17. Then he would go back to his home in Ramah, where also he would serve as judge. In Ramah he built an altar to the LORD.
