1. യഹോവ അബ്രാമിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതെന്തെന്നാല്നീ നിന്റെ ദേശത്തെയും ചാര്ച്ചക്കാരെയും പിതൃഭവനത്തെയും വിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഞാന് നിന്നെ കാണിപ്പാനിരിക്കുന്ന ദേശത്തെക്കു പോക.

1. The LORD said to Abram, 'Leave your country, your relatives, and your father's home, and go to a land that I am going to show you.

2. ഞാന് നിന്നെ വലിയോരു ജാതിയാക്കും; നിന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു നിന്റെ പേര് വലുതാക്കും; നീ ഒരു അനുഗ്രഹമായിരിക്കും.

2. I will give you many descendants, and they will become a great nation. I will bless you and make your name famous, so that you will be a blessing.

3. നിന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാന് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കും. നിന്നെ ശപിക്കുന്നവരെ ഞാന് ശപിക്കും; നിന്നില് ഭൂമിയിലെ സകല വംശങ്ങളും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടും.

3. I will bless those who bless you, But I will curse those who curse you. And through you I will bless all the nations.'

4. യഹോവ തന്നോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ അബ്രാം പുറപ്പെട്ടു; ലോത്തും അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയി; ഹാരാനില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുമ്പോള് അബ്രാമിന്നു എഴുപത്തഞ്ചു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു.

4. When Abram was seventy-five years old, he started out from Haran, as the LORD had told him to do; and Lot went with him.

5. അബ്രാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറായിയെയും സഹോദരന്റെ മകനായ ലോത്തിനെയും തങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ സമ്പത്തുകളെയൊക്കെയും തങ്ങള് ഹാരാനില് വെച്ചു സമ്പാദിച്ച ആളുകളെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു കനാന് ദേശത്തേക്കു പോകുവാന് പുറപ്പെട്ടു കനാന് ദേശത്തു എത്തി.

5. Abram took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all the wealth and all the slaves they had acquired in Haran, and they started out for the land of Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan,

6. അബ്രാം ശേഖേമെന്ന സ്ഥലംവരെയും ഏലോന് മോരെവരെയും ദേശത്തുകൂടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചു. അന്നു കനാന്യന് ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തിരുന്നു.

6. Abram traveled through the land until he came to the sacred tree of Moreh, the holy place at Shechem. (At that time the Canaanites were still living in the land.)

7. യഹോവ അബ്രാമിന്നു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായിനിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു ഞാന് ഈ ദേശം കൊടുക്കുമെന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു. തനിക്കു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായ യഹോവേക്കു അവന് അവിടെ ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു.

7. The LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, 'This is the country that I am going to give to your descendants.' Then Abram built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.

8. അവന് അവിടെനിന്നു ബേഥേലിന്നു കിഴക്കുള്ള മലെക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടു; ബേഥേല് പടിഞ്ഞാറും ഹായി കിഴക്കുമായി കൂടാരം അടിച്ചു; അവിടെ അവന് യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് ആരാധിച്ചു.

8. After that, he moved on south to the hill country east of the city of Bethel and set up his camp between Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There also he built an altar and worshiped the LORD.

9. അബ്രാം പിന്നെയും തെക്കോട്ടു യാത്രചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

9. Then he moved on from place to place, going toward the southern part of Canaan.

10. ദേശത്തു ക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായി; ദേശത്തു ക്ഷാമം കഠിനമായി തീര്ന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അബ്രാം മിസ്രയീമില് ചെന്നുപാര്പ്പാന് അവിടേക്കു പോയി.

10. But there was a famine in Canaan, and it was so bad that Abram went farther south to Egypt, to live there for a while.

11. മിസ്രയീമില് എത്തുമാറായപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ ഭാര്യ സാറായിയോടു പറഞ്ഞതുഇതാ, നീ സൌന്ദര്യമുള്ള സ്ത്രീയെന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു.

11. When he was about to cross the border into Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, 'You are a beautiful woman.

12. മിസ്രയീമ്യര് നിന്നെ കാണുമ്പോള് ഇവള് അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു എന്നെകൊല്ലുകയും നിന്നെ ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

12. When the Egyptians see you, they will assume that you are my wife, and so they will kill me and let you live.

13. നീ എന്റെ സഹോദരിയെന്നു പറയേണം; എന്നാല് നിന്റെ നിമിത്തം എനിക്കു നന്മവരികയും ഞാന് ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.

13. Tell them that you are my sister; then because of you they will let me live and treat me well.'

14. അങ്ങനെ അബ്രാം മിസ്രയീമില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് സ്ത്രീ അതി സുന്ദരി എന്നു മിസ്രയീമ്യര് കണ്ടു.

14. When he crossed the border into Egypt, the Egyptians did see that his wife was beautiful.

15. ഫറവോന്റെ പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരും അവളെ കണ്ടു, ഫറവോന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ അവളെ പ്രശംസിച്ചു; സ്ത്രീ ഫറവോന്റെ അരമനയില് പോകേണ്ടിവന്നു.

15. Some of the court officials saw her and told the king how beautiful she was; so she was taken to his palace.

16. അവളുടെ നിമിത്തം അവന് അബ്രാമിന്നു നന്മ ചെയ്തു; അവന്നു ആടുമാടുകളും ആണ്കഴുതകളും ദാസന്മാരും ദാസിമാരും പെണ്കഴുതകളും ഒട്ടകങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

16. Because of her the king treated Abram well and gave him flocks of sheep and goats, cattle, donkeys, slaves, and camels.

17. അബ്രാമിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറായിനിമിത്തം യഹോവ ഫറവോനെയും അവന്റെ കുടുംബത്തെയും അത്യന്തം ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു.

17. But because the king had taken Sarai, the LORD sent terrible diseases on him and on the people of his palace.

18. അപ്പോള് ഫറവോന് അബ്രാമിനെ വിളിച്ചുനീ എന്നോടു ഈ ചെയ്തതു എന്തു? അവള് നിന്റെ ഭാര്യയെന്നു എന്നെ അറിയിക്കാഞ്ഞതു എന്തു?

18. Then the king sent for Abram and asked him, 'What have you done to me? Why didn't you tell me that she was your wife?

19. അവള് എന്റെ സഹോദരിയെന്നു എന്തിന്നു പറഞ്ഞു? ഞാന് അവളെ ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു എടുപ്പാന് സംഗതി വന്നുപോയല്ലോ; ഇപ്പോള് ഇതാ, നിന്റെ ഭാര്യ; അവളെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Why did you say that she was your sister, and let me take her as my wife? Here is your wife; take her and get out!'

20. ഫറവോന് അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു തന്റെ ആളുകളോടു കല്പിച്ചു; അവര് അവനെയും അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെയും അവന്നുള്ള സകലവുമായി പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു.

20. The king gave orders to his men, so they took Abram and put him out of the country, together with his wife and everything he owned.
