1. ഇങ്ങനെ അബ്രാമും ഭാര്യയും അവന്നുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അവനോടുകൂടെ ലോത്തും മിസ്രയീമില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു തെക്കെ ദേശത്തു വന്നു.

1. Abram and Sarai took everything they owned and went to the Southern Desert. Lot went with them.

2. കന്നുകാലി, വെള്ളി, പൊന്നു ഈ വകയില് അബ്രാം ബഹുസമ്പന്നനായിരുന്നു.

2. Abram was very rich. He owned many cattle, sheep, and goats, and had a lot of silver and gold.

3. അവന് തന്റെ യാത്രയില് തെക്കുനിന്നു ബേഥേല്വരെയും ബേഥേലിന്നും ഹായിക്കും മദ്ധ്യേ തനിക്കു ആദിയില് കൂടാരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതും താന് ആദിയില് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ യാഗപീഠമിരുന്നതുമായ സ്ഥലംവരെയും ചെന്നു.

3. Abram moved from place to place in the Southern Desert. And finally, he went north and set up his tents between Bethel and Ai,

4. അവിടെ അബ്രാം യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് ആരാധിച്ചു.

4. where he had earlier camped and built an altar. There he worshiped the LORD.

5. അബ്രാമിനോടുകൂടെവന്ന ലോത്തിന്നും ആടുമാടുകളും കൂടാരങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

5. Lot, who was traveling with him, also had sheep, goats, and cattle, as well as his own family and slaves.

6. അവര് ഒന്നിച്ചുപാര്പ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ദേശത്തിന്നു അവരെ വഹിച്ചു കൂടാഞ്ഞു; സമ്പത്തു വളരെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവര്ക്കും ഒന്നിച്ചുപാര്പ്പാന് കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

6. At this time the Canaanites and the Perizzites were living in the same area, and so there wasn't enough pastureland left for Abram and Lot with all of their animals. Besides this, the men who took care of Abram's animals and the ones who took care of Lot's animals started quarreling.

7. അബ്രാമിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളുടെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും ലോത്തിന്റെ കന്നുകാലികളുടെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും തമ്മില് പിണക്കമുണ്ടായി; കനാന്യരും പെരിസ്യരും അന്നു ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തിരുന്നു.

8. അതു കൊണ്ടു അബ്രാം ലോത്തിനോടുഎനിക്കും നിനക്കും എന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും നിന്റെ ഇടയന്മാര്ക്കും തമ്മില് പിണക്കം ഉണ്ടാകരുതേ; നാം സഹോദരന്മാരല്ലോ.

8. Abram said to Lot, 'We are close relatives. We shouldn't argue, and our men shouldn't be fighting one another.

9. ദേശമെല്ലാം നിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഇല്ലയോ? എന്നെ വിട്ടുപിരിഞ്ഞാലും. നീ ഇടത്തോട്ടെങ്കില് ഞാന് വലത്തോട്ടു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം; നീ വലത്തോട്ടെങ്കില് ഞാന് ഇടത്തോട്ടു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. There is plenty of land for you to choose from. Let's separate. If you go north, I'll go south; if you go south, I'll go north.'

10. അപ്പോള് ലോത്ത് നോക്കി, യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള പ്രദേശം ഒക്കെയും നീരോട്ടമുള്ളതെന്നു കണ്ടു; യഹോവ സൊദോമിനെയും ഗൊമോരയെയും നശിപ്പിച്ചതിന്നു മുമ്പെ അതു യഹോവയുടെ തോട്ടംപോലെയും സോവര്വരെ മിസ്രയീംദേശംപോലെയും ആയിരുന്നു.

10. This happened before the LORD had destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. And when Lot looked around, he saw there was plenty of water in the Jordan Valley. All the way to Zoar the valley was as green as the garden of the LORD or the land of Egypt.

11. ലോത്ത് യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള പ്രദേശം ഒക്കെയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു; ഇങ്ങനെ ലോത്ത് കിഴക്കോട്ടു യാത്രയായി; അവര് തമ്മില് പരിഞ്ഞു.

11. So Lot chose the whole Jordan Valley for himself, and as he started toward the east, he and Abram separated.

12. അബ്രാം കനാന് ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തു; ലോത്ത് ആ പ്രദേശത്തിലെ പട്ടണങ്ങളില് പാര്ത്തു സൊദോംവരെ കൂടാരം നീക്കി നീക്കി അടിച്ചു.

12. Abram stayed in the land of Canaan. But Lot settled near the cities of the valley and put up his tents not far from Sodom,

13. സൊദോംനിവാസികള് ദുഷ്ടന്മാരും യഹോവയുടെ മുമ്പാകെ മഹാപാപികളും ആയിരുന്നു.

13. where the people were evil and sinned terribly against the LORD.

14. ലോത്ത് അബ്രാമിനെ വിട്ടു പിരിഞ്ഞശേഷം യഹോവ അബ്രാമിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതുതലപൊക്കി, നീ ഇരിക്കുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു നിന്നു വടക്കോട്ടും തെക്കോട്ടും കിഴക്കോട്ടും പടിഞ്ഞാറോട്ടും നോക്കുക.

14. After Abram and Lot had gone their separate ways, the LORD said to Abram: Look around to the north, south, east, and west.

15. നീ കാണുന്ന ഭൂമി ഒക്കെയും ഞാന് നിനക്കും നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും ശാശ്വതമായി തരും.

15. I will give you and your family all the land you can see. It will be theirs forever!

16. ഞാന് നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ ഭൂമിയിലെ പൊടിപോലെ ആക്കുംഭൂമിയിലെ പൊടിയെ എണ്ണുവാന് കഴിയുമെങ്കില് നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെയും എണ്ണാം.

16. I will give you more descendants than there are specks of dust on the earth, and someday it will be easier to count the specks of dust than to count your descendants.

17. നീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു ദേശത്തു നെടുകെയും കുറുകെയും സഞ്ചരിക്ക; ഞാന് അതു നിനക്കു തരും.

17. Now walk back and forth across the land, because I am giving it to you.

18. അപ്പോള് അബ്രാം കൂടാരം നീക്കി ഹെബ്രോനില് മമ്രേയുടെ തോപ്പില് വന്നു പാര്ത്തു; അവിടെ യഹോവേക്കു ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു.

18. Abram took down his tents and went to live near the sacred trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar in honor of the LORD.
