1. ഞാന് എന്റെ കണ്ണുമായി ഒരു നിയമം ചെയ്തു; പിന്നെ ഞാന് ഒരു കന്യകയെ നോക്കുന്നതെങ്ങനെ?

1. I made a covenant with my eyes, that I would not so much as think upon a virgin.

2. എന്നാല് മേലില്നിന്നു ദൈവം നലകുന്ന ഔഹരിയും ഉയരത്തില്നിന്നു സര്വ്വശക്തന് തരുന്ന അവകാശവും എന്തു?

2. For what part should God from above have in me, and what inheritance the Almighty from on high?

3. നീതികെട്ടവന്നു അപായവും ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാര്ക്കും വിപത്തുമല്ലയോ?

3. Is not destruction to the wicked, and aversion to them that work iniquity?

4. എന്റെ വഴികളെ അവന് കാണുന്നില്ലയോ? എന്റെ കാലടികളെയൊക്കെയും എണ്ണുന്നില്ലയോ?

4. Doth not he consider my ways, and number all my steps?

5. ഞാന് കപടത്തില് നടന്നുവെങ്കില്, എന്റെ കാല് വഞ്ചനെക്കു ഔടിയെങ്കില് -

5. If I have walked in vanity, and my foot hath made haste to deceit:

6. ദൈവം എന്റെ പരമാര്ത്ഥത അറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഒത്ത ത്രാസില് എന്നെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ -

6. Let him weigh me in a just balance, and let God know my simplicity.

7. എന്റെ കാലടി വഴിവിട്ടു മാറിയെങ്കില്, എന്റെ ഹൃദയം എന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു പിന്തുടര്ന്നുവെങ്കില്, വല്ല കറയും എന്റെ കൈകൂ പറ്റിയെങ്കില്,

7. If my step hath turned out of the way, and if my heart hath followed my eyes, and if a spot hath cleaved to my hands:

8. ഞാന് വിതെച്ചതു മറ്റൊരുത്തന് തിന്നട്ടെ; എന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു മൂലനാശം ഭവിക്കട്ടെ.

8. Then let me sow and let another eat: and let my offspring be rooted out.

9. എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഒരു സ്ത്രീയിങ്കല് ഭ്രമിച്ചുപോയെങ്കില്, കൂട്ടുകാരന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ഞാന് പതിയിരുന്നു എങ്കില്,

9. If my heart hath been deceived upon a woman, and if I have laid wait at my friend's door:

10. എന്റെ ഭാര്യ മറ്റൊരുത്തന്നു മാവു പൊടിക്കട്ടെ; അന്യര് അവളുടെ മേല് കുനിയട്ടെ.

10. Let my wife be the harlot of another, and let other men lie with her.

11. അതു മഹാപാതകമല്ലോ, ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കുറ്റമത്രേ;

11. For this is a heinous crime, and a most grievous iniquity.

12. അതു നരകപര്യന്തം ദഹിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തീയാകുന്നു; അതു എന്റെ അനുഭവം ഒക്കെയും നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കും.

12. It is a fire that devoureth even to destruction, and rooteth up all things that spring.

13. എന്റെ ദാസനോ ദാസിയോ എന്നോടു വാദിച്ചിട്ടു ഞാന് അവരുടെ ന്യായം തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞെങ്കില്,

13. If I have despised to abide judgment with my manservant, or my maidservant, when they had any controversy against me:

14. ദൈവം എഴുന്നേലക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്തു ചെയ്യും? അവന് സന്ദര്ശിക്കുമ്പോള് ഞാന് എന്തുത്തരം പറയും?

14. For what shall I do when God shall rise to judge? and when he shall examine, what shall I answer him?

15. ഗര്ഭത്തില് എന്നെ ഉരുവാക്കിയവനല്ലയോ അവനെയും ഉരുവാക്കിയതു? ഉദരത്തില് ഞങ്ങളെ നിര്മ്മിച്ചതു ഒരുത്തനല്ലയോ?

15. Did not he that made me in the womb make him also: and did not one and the same form me in the womb?

16. ദരിദ്രന്മാരുടെ ആഗ്രഹം ഞാന് മുടക്കിയെങ്കില്, വിധവയുടെ കണ്ണു ഞാന് ക്ഷീണിപ്പിച്ചെങ്കില്,

16. If I have denied to the poor what they desired, and have made the eyes of the widow wait:

17. അനാഥന്നു അംശം കൊടുക്കാതെ ഞാന് തനിച്ചു എന്റെ ആഹാരം കഴിച്ചെങ്കില് -

17. If I have eaten my morsel alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof:

18. ബാല്യംമുതല് ഞാന് അപ്പന് എന്നപോലെ അവനെ വളര്ത്തുകയും ജനിച്ചതുമുതല് അവളെ പരിപാലിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ -

18. (For from my infancy mercy grew up with me: and it came out with me from my mother's womb:)

19. ഒരുത്തന് വസ്ത്രമില്ലാതെ നശിച്ചുപോകുന്നതോ ദരിദ്രന് പുതപ്പില്ലാതെ ഇരിക്കുന്നതോ ഞാന് കണ്ടിട്ടു

19. If I have despised him that was perishing for want of clothing, and the poor man that had no covering:

20. അവന്റെ അര എന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചില്ലെങ്കില്, എന്റെ ആടുകളുടെ രോമംകൊണ്ടു അവന്നു കുളിര് മാറിയില്ലെങ്കില്,

20. If his sides have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep:

21. പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് എനിക്കു സഹായം കണ്ടിട്ടു ഞാന് അനാഥന്റെ നേരെ കയ്യോങ്ങിയെങ്കില്,

21. If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, even when I saw myself superior in the gate:

22. എന്റെ ഭുജം തോള്പലകയില്നിന്നു വീഴട്ടെ; എന്റെ കയ്യുടെ ഏപ്പു വിട്ടുപോകട്ടെ.

22. Let my shoulder fall from its joint, and let my arm with its bones be broken.

23. ദൈവം അയച്ച വിപത്തു എനിക്കു ഭയങ്കരമായിരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ഔന്നത്യംനിമിത്തം എനിക്കു ആവതില്ലാതെയായി.

23. For I have always feared God as waves swelling over me, and his weight I was not able to bear.

24. ഞാന് പൊന്നു എന്റെ ശരണമാക്കിയെങ്കില്, തങ്കത്തോടു നീ എന്റെ ആശ്രയം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവെങ്കില്,

24. If I have thought gold my strength, and have said to fine gold: My confidence:

25. എന്റെ ധനം വളരെയായിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും എന്റെ കൈ അധികം സമ്പാദിച്ചിരിക്കകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് സന്തോഷിച്ചുവെങ്കില്,

25. If I have rejoiced over my great riches, and because my hand had gotten much.

26. സൂര്യന് പ്രകാശിക്കുന്നതോ ചന്ദ്രന് ശോഭയോടെ ഗമിക്കുന്നതോ കണ്ടിട്ടു

26. If I beheld the sun when it shined, and the moon going in brightness:

27. എന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഗൂഢമായി വശീകരിക്കപ്പെടുകയും എന്റെ വായി എന്റെ കയ്യെ ചുംബിക്കയും ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്,

27. And my heart in secret hath rejoiced, and I have kissed my hand with my mouth:

28. അതു ന്യായാധിപന്മാര് ശിക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടുന്ന കുറ്റം അത്രെ; അതിനാല് ഉയരത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തെ ഞാന് നിഷേധിച്ചു എന്നു വരുമല്ലോ.

28. Which is a very great iniquity, and a denial against the most high God.

29. എന്റെ വൈരിയുടെ നാശത്തിങ്കല് ഞാന് സന്തോഷിക്കയോ, അവന്റെ അനര്ത്ഥത്തിങ്കല് ഞാന് നിഗളിക്കയോ ചെയ്തു എങ്കില്--

29. If I have been glad at the downfall of him that hated me, and have rejoiced that evil had found him.

30. അവന്റെ പ്രാണനാശം ഇച്ഛിച്ചു ഞാന് ശാപം ചൊല്ലി പാപം ചെയ്വാന് എന്റെ വായെ ഒരിക്കലും സമ്മതിച്ചിട്ടില്ല--

30. For I have not given my mouth to sin, by wishing a curse to his soul.

31. അവന്റെ മേശെക്കല് മാംസം തിന്നു തൃപ്തി വരാത്തവര് ആര്

31. If the men of my tabernacle have not said: Who will give us of his flesh that we may be filled?

32. എന്നിങ്ങനെ എന്റെ കൂടാരത്തിലെ ആളുകള് പറഞ്ഞില്ലെങ്കില് -- പരദേശി തെരുവീഥിയില് രാപ്പാര്ക്കേണ്ടിവന്നിട്ടില്ല; വഴിപോക്കന്നു ഞാന് എന്റെ വാതില് തുറന്നുകൊടുത്തു--

32. The stranger did not stay without, my door was open to the traveller.

33. ഞാന് ആദാമിനെപ്പോലെ എന്റെ ലംഘനം മൂടി എന്റെ അകൃത്യം മാര്വ്വിടത്തു മറെച്ചുവെച്ചെങ്കില്,

33. If as a man I have hid my sin, and have concealed my iniquity in my bosom.

34. മഹാപുരുഷാരത്തെ ശങ്കിക്കകൊണ്ടും വംശക്കാരുടെ നിന്ദ എന്നെ ഭ്രമിപ്പിക്കകൊണ്ടും ഞാന് വാതിലിന്നു പുറത്തിറങ്ങാതെ മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നു എങ്കില്--

34. If I have been afraid at a very great multitude, and the contempt of kinsmen hath terrified me: and I have not rather held my peace, and not gone out of the door.

35. അയ്യോ, എന്റെ സങ്കടം കേള്ക്കുന്നവന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നുവെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു!- ഇതാ, എന്റെ ഒപ്പു! സര്വ്വശക്തന് എനിക്കുത്തരം നലകുമാറാകട്ടെ. എന്റെ പ്രതിയോഗി എഴുതിയ അന്യായ രേഖ കിട്ടിയെങ്കില് കൊള്ളായിരുന്നു!

35. Who would grant me a hearer, that the Almighty may hear my desire; and that he himself that judgeth would write a book,

36. അതു ഞാന് എന്റെ ചുമലില് വഹിക്കുമായിരുന്നു; ഒരു മകുടമായിട്ടു അതു അണിയുമായിരുന്നു.

36. That I may carry it on my shoulder, and put it about me as a crown?

37. എന്റെ കാലടികളുടെ എണ്ണം ഞാന് അവനെ ബോധിപ്പിക്കും; ഒരു പ്രഭു എന്നപോലെ ഞാന് അവനോടു അടുക്കും.

37. At every step of mine I would pronounce it, and offer it as to a prince.

38. എന്റെ നിലം എന്റെ നേരെ നിലവിളിക്കയോ അതിന്റെ ഉഴച്ചാലുകള് ഒന്നിച്ചു കരകയോ ചെയ്തുവെങ്കില്,

38. If my land cry against me, and with it the furrows thereof mourn:

39. വിലകൊടുക്കാതെ ഞാന് അതിന്റെ വിളവു തിന്നുകയോ അതിന്റെ ഉടമക്കാരുടെ പ്രാണന് പോകുവാന് സംഗതിയാക്കുകയോ ചെയ്തു എങ്കില്,

39. If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, and have afflicted the soul of the tillers thereof:

40. കോതമ്പിന്നു പകരം കാരമുള്ളും യവത്തിന്നു പകരം കളയും മുളെച്ചുവളരട്ടെ. (ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ വചനങ്ങള് അവസാനിച്ചു.)

40. Let thistles grow up to me instead of wheat, and thorns instead of barley.
