1. യാക്കോബിനോടുകൂടെ താന്താന്റെ കുടുംബസഹിതം മിസ്രയീമില് വന്ന യിസ്രായേല് മക്കളുടെ പേരുകള് ആവിതു

1. These are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob. Each one came with those of his house:

2. രൂബേന് , ശിമെയോന് , ലേവി,

2. Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah,

3. യെഹൂദാ, യിസ്സാഖാര്, സെബൂലൂന് , ബെന്യാമീന്

3. Issachar, Zebulun, Benjamin,

4. ദാന് , നഫ്താലി, ഗാദ്, ആശേര്.

4. Dan, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

5. യാക്കോബിന്റെ കടിപ്രദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഉത്ഭവിച്ച ദേഹികള് എല്ലാം കൂടെ എഴുപതു പേര് ആയിരുന്നു; യോസേഫോ മുമ്പെ തന്നേ മിസ്രയീമില് ആയിരുന്നു.

5. There were seventy people in Jacob's family. But Joseph was already in Egypt.

6. Joseph and all his brothers died and all their families of that time.

7. യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് സന്താനസമ്പന്നരായി അത്യന്തം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു പെരുകി ബലപ്പെട്ടു; ദേശം അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞു.

7. But the sons of Israel had many children, and the people became many in number. There were so many that the land was filled with them.

8. Then a new king came into power over Egypt. He did not know Joseph.

9. അവന് തന്റെ ജനത്തോടുയിസ്രായേല് ജനം നമ്മെക്കാള് ബാഹുല്യവും ശക്തിയുമുള്ളവരാകുന്നു.

9. He said to his people, 'See, the people of Israel are too many and too powerful for us.

10. അവര് പെരുകീട്ടു ഒരു യുദ്ധം ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന പക്ഷം നമ്മുടെ ശത്രുക്കളോടു ചേര്ന്നു നമ്മോടു പൊരുതു ഈ രാജ്യം വിട്ടു പൊയ്ക്കളവാന് സംഗതി വരാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നാം അവരോടു ബുദ്ധിയായി പെരുമാറുക.

10. Come, let us be wise in how we act towards them, or they will become more in number. If there is a war, they might join with those who hate us. They might fight against us and then leave the land.'

11. അങ്ങനെ കഠിനവേലകളാല് അവരെ പീഡിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവരുടെമേല് ഊഴിയവിചാരകന്മാരെ ആക്കി; അവര് പീഥോം, റയംസേസ് എന്ന സംഭാരനഗരങ്ങളെ ഫറവോന്നു പണിതു.

11. So they put men in power over them to make them work hard. And they built the store-cities Pithom and Raamses for Pharaoh the king.

12. എന്നാല് അവര് പീഡിപ്പിക്കുന്തോറും ജനം പെരുകി വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് യിസ്രായേല് മക്കള്നിമിത്തം പേടിച്ചു.

12. But the more the Egyptians made them suffer, the more they became until they spread throughout the land. So the Egyptians were afraid of the people of Israel.

13. മിസ്രയീമ്യര് യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളെക്കൊണ്ടു കഠിനവേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു.

13. The Egyptians made the people of Israel work very hard.

14. കളിമണ്ണും ഇഷ്ടികയും വയലിലെ സകലവിധവേലയും സംബന്ധിച്ചുള്ള കഠിനപ്രവര്ത്തിയാലും അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു കാഠിന്യത്തോടെ ചെയ്യിച്ച സകലപ്രയത്നത്താലും അവര് അവരുടെ ജീവനെ കൈപ്പാക്കി.

14. They made their lives bitter with hard work building with stones and with all kinds of work in the field. They made them work very hard.

15. എന്നാല് മിസ്രയീംരാജാവു ശിപ്രാ എന്നും പൂവാ എന്നും പേരുള്ള എബ്രായസൂതികര്മ്മിണികളോടു

15. Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew nurses. The name of one was Shiphrah. The name of the other was Puah.

16. എബ്രായസ്ത്രീകളുടെ അടുക്കല് നിങ്ങള് സൂതികര്മ്മത്തിന്നു ചെന്നു പ്രസവശയ്യയില് അവരെ കാണുമ്പോള് കുട്ടി ആണാകുന്നു എങ്കില് നിങ്ങള് അതിനെ കൊല്ലേണം; പെണ്ണാകുന്നു എങ്കില് ജീവനോടിരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

16. He said, 'When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth, and see the baby before the mother does, if it is a son, kill him. But if it is a daughter, let her live.'

17. സൂതികര്മ്മിണികളോ ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടു, മിസ്രയീം രാജാവു തങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ ചെയ്യാതെ ആണ് കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിച്ചു.

17. But the nurses feared God. They did not do what the king of Egypt told them. They let the boys live.

18. അപ്പോള് മിസ്രയീം രാജാവു സൂതികര്മ്മിണികളെ വരുത്തി; ഇതെന്തൊരു പ്രവൃത്തി? നിങ്ങള് ആണ്കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

18. So the king of Egypt called the nurses and said to them, 'Why have you done this, and let the boys live?'

19. സൂതികര്മ്മിണികള് ഫറവോനോടുഎബ്രായസ്ത്രീകള് മിസ്രയീമ്യസ്ത്രീകളെപ്പോലെ അല്ല; അവര് നല്ല തിറമുള്ളവര്; സൂതികര്മ്മിണികള് അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് എത്തുമ്മുമ്പെ അവര് പ്രസവിച്ചു കഴിയും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. The nurses answered Pharaoh, 'Because the Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women. They are strong. They give birth before the nurse comes to them.'

20. അതുകൊണ്ടു ദൈവം സൂതികര്മ്മിണികള്ക്കു നന്മചെയ്തു; ജനം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു ഏറ്റവം ബലപ്പെട്ടു.

20. So God was good to the nurses. And the people became many and strong.

21. സൂതി കര്മ്മിണികള് ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുകകൊണ്ടു അവന് അവര്ക്കും കുടുംബവര്ദ്ധന നല്കി.

21. Because the nurses feared God, He gave them families.

22. പിന്നെ ഫറവോന് തന്റെ സകലജനത്തോടുംജനിക്കുന്ന ഏതു ആണ്കുട്ടിയെയും നദിയില് ഇട്ടുകളയേണമെന്നും ഏതു പെണ്കുട്ടിയെയും ജീവനോടെ രക്ഷിക്കേണമെന്നും കല്പിച്ചു.

22. Then Pharaoh told all his people, 'Throw every son who is born to the Hebrews into the Nile. But keep every daughter alive.'
