1. ദൈവം മോശെക്കും തന്റെ ജനമായ യിസ്രായേലിന്നും വേണ്ടി ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും യഹോവ യിസ്രായേലിനെ മിസ്രയീമില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചതും മിദ്യാനിലെ പുരോഹിതനായി മോശെയുടെ അമ്മായപ്പനായ യിത്രോ കേട്ടു.

1. And Jethro, priest of Midian, father-in-law of Moses, heard all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, in that Yahweh had brought forth Israel out of Egypt.

2. അപ്പോള് മോശെയുടെ അമ്മായപ്പനായ യിത്രോ മോശെ മടക്കി അയച്ചിരുന്ന അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ സിപ്പോറയെയും അവളുടെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരെയും കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

2. So Jethro, Moses father-in-law, took Zipporah, Moses wife, after she had been sent home;

3. ഞാന് അന്യദേശത്തു പരദേശിയായി എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതു കൊണ്ടു അവരില് ഒരുത്തന്നു ഗേര്ഷോം എന്നു പേര്.

3. and her two sons, of whom, the name of the one, was Gershom, for, said he, A sojourner, am I in a strange land,

4. എന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ദൈവം എനിക്കു തുണയായി എന്നെ ഫറവോന്റെ വാളിങ്കല് നിന്നു രക്ഷിച്ചു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു മററവന്നു എലീയേസെര് എന്നു പേര്.

4. and, the name of the other, Eliezer, for the God of my father, was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.

5. എന്നാല് മോശെയുടെ അമ്മായപ്പനായ യിത്രോ അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരോടും അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയോടുംകൂടെ, മോശെ പാളയമിറങ്ങിയിരുന്ന മരുഭൂമിയില് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പര്വ്വതത്തിങ്കല് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

5. And Jethro, Moses father-in-law, came in, with his two sons and his wife, unto Moses, into the desert where, he, was encamping, the mountain of God;

6. നിന്റെ അമ്മായപ്പന് യിത്രോ എന്ന ഞാനും നിന്റെ ഭാര്യയും രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരും നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന് മോശെയോടു പറയിച്ചു.

6. and said unto Moses, I, thy father-in-law, Jethro, am coming in unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons, with her.

7. മോശെ തന്റെ അമ്മായപ്പനെ എതിരേല്പാന് ചെന്നു വണങ്ങി അവനെ ചുംബിച്ചു; അവര് തമ്മില് കുശലപ്രശ്നം ചെയ്തു കൂടാരത്തില് വന്നു.

7. So Moses went forth to meet his father-in-law, and bowed himself down to him and kissed him, and they asked each other of their welfare, and came into the tent.

8. മോശെ തന്റെ അമ്മായപ്പനോടു യഹോവ യിസ്രായേലിന്നുവേണ്ടി ഫറവോനോടും മിസ്രയീമ്യരോടും ചെയ്തതു ഒക്കെയും വഴിയില് തങ്ങള്ക്കു നേരിട്ട പ്രയാസം ഒക്കെയും യഹോവ തങ്ങളെ രക്ഷിച്ചപ്രകാരവും വിവരിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. Then Moses recounted to his father-in-law, all that Yahweh had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians, for Israel's sake, all the hardship which had befallen them by the way, and how Yahweh had delivered them.

9. യഹോവ മിസ്രയീമ്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു യിസ്രായേലിനെ വിടുവിച്ചതിനാല് അവര്ക്കും ചെയ്ത എല്ലാ നന്മനിമിത്തവും യിത്രോ സന്തോഷിച്ചു.

9. Then did Jethro rejoice, for all the good which Yahweh had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.

10. യിത്രോ പറഞ്ഞതെന്തെന്നാല്നിങ്ങളെ മിസ്രയീമ്യരുടെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും ഫറവോന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നും രക്ഷിച്ചു മിസ്രയീമ്യരുടെ കൈക്കീഴില്നിന്നു ജനത്തെ വിടുവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന യഹോവ സ്തുതിക്കപ്പെടുമാറാകട്ടെ.

10. And Jethro said Blessed be Yahweh, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh, Who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians:

11. യഹോവ സകലദേവന്മാരിലും വലിയവന് എന്നു ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് അറിയുന്നു. അതേ, ഇവരോടു അവര് അഹങ്കരിച്ച കാര്യത്തില് തന്നേ.

11. Now, I know, that, greater, is Yahweh than all the gods, Even in the thing wherein they were arrogant over them.

12. മോശെയുടെ അമ്മായപ്പനായ യിത്രോ ദൈവത്തിന്നു ഹോമവും ഹനനയാഗവും കഴിച്ചു; അഹരോനും യിസ്രായേല് മൂപ്പന്മാരെല്ലാവരും വന്നു മോശെയുടെ അമ്മായപ്പനോടുകൂടെ ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു.

12. Then took Jethro father-in-law of Moses, an ascending-offering and sacrifices to God, and Aaron and all the elders of Israel came in to eat bread with the father-in-law of Moses before God.

13. പിറ്റെന്നാള് മോശെ ജനത്തിന്നു ന്യായം വിധിപ്പാന് ഇരുന്നു; ജനം രാവിലെ തുടങ്ങി വൈകുന്നേരംവരെ മോശെയുടെ ചുറ്റും നിന്നു.

13. Now it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat, to judge the people, and the people stood by Moses, from the morning, until the evening.

14. അവന് ജനത്തിന്നുവേണ്ടി ചെയ്യുന്നതൊക്കെയും മോശെയുടെ അമ്മായപ്പന് കണ്ടപ്പോള്നീ ജനത്തിന്നുവേണ്ടി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഈ കാര്യം എന്തു? നീ ഏകനായി വിസ്തരിപ്പാന് ഇരിക്കയും ജനം ഒക്കെയും രാവിലേ തുടങ്ങി വൈകുന്നേരംവരെ നിന്റെ ചുറ്റും നില്ക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചു.

14. And when Moses father-in-law saw all that he, was doing for the people, he said What is this thing which, thou, art doing for the people? Wherefore art, thou, sitting alone, with all the people, stationed by thee, from morning until evening?

15. മോശെ തന്റെ അമ്മായപ്പനോടുദൈവത്തോടു ചോദിപ്പാന് ജനം എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നു.

15. And Moses said to his father-in-law, Because the people come in unto me to seek God:

16. അവര്ക്കും ഒരു കാര്യം ഉണ്ടാകുമ്പോള് അവര് എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരും. അവര്ക്കും തമ്മിലുള്ള കാര്യം ഞാന് കേട്ടു വിധിക്കയും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കല്പനകളും പ്രമാണങ്ങളും അവരെ അറിയിക്കയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. When they have a matter, they come in unto me, then do I judge between a man and his neighbour, and make known the statutes of God and his laws.

17. അതിന്നു മോശെയുടെ അമ്മായപ്പന് അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതു

17. Then said Moses' father-in-law unto him, Not good, is the thing that thou art doing.

18. നീ ചെയ്യുന്ന കാര്യം നന്നല്ല; നീയും നിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ഈ ജനവും ക്ഷീണിച്ചുപോകും; ഈ കാര്യം നിനക്കു അതിഭാരമാകുന്നു; ഏകനായി അതു നിവര്ത്തിപ്പാന് നിനക്കു കഴിയുന്നതല്ല.

18. Thou wilt get quite worn out, both thou and this people that is with thee, for the thing is too heavy for thee, thou canst not do it, alone.

19. ആകയാല് എന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്ക; ഞാന് ഒരാലോചന പറഞ്ഞുതരാം. ദൈവം നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരിക്കും; നീ ജനത്തിന്നുവേണ്ടി ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് ഇരിക്ക; നീ കാര്യങ്ങളെ ദൈവസന്നിധിയില് കൊണ്ടുചെല്ലുക.

19. Now, hearken thou to my voice let me counsel thee, and may God be with thee: Be, thou, for the people, in front of God, so shalt, thou, bring the matters unto God;

20. അവര്ക്കും കല്പനകളും പ്രമാണങ്ങളും ഉപദേശിക്കയും നടക്കേണ്ടുന്ന വഴിയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടുന്ന പ്രവൃത്തിയും അവരെ അറിയിക്കയും ചെയ്ക.

20. and shalt cause to shine upon them, the statutes and the laws, and make known to them the way wherein they should go, and the work they should do.

21. അതല്ലാതെ, ദൈവഭക്തന്മാരും സത്യവാന്മാരും ദുരാദായം വെറുക്കുന്നവരുമായ പ്രാപ്തിയുള്ള പുരുഷന്മാരെ സകലജനത്തില്നിന്നും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു അവരെ ആയിരംപേര്ക്കും അധിപതിമാരായും നൂറുപേര്ക്കും അധിപതിമാരായും അമ്പതുപേര്ക്കും അധിപതിമാരായും പത്തുപേര്ക്കും അധിപതിമാരായും നിയമിക്ക.

21. Thou thyself, therefore shalt look out, from among all the people men of ability, reverers of God, men of fidelity, haters of extortion, and place them over them as rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

22. അവര് എല്ലാസമയത്തും ജനത്തിന്നു ന്യായം വിധിക്കട്ടെ; വലിയ കാര്യം ഒക്കെയും അവര് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരട്ടെ; ചെറിയ കാര്യം ഒക്കെയും അവര് തന്നേ തീര്ക്കട്ടെ; ഇങ്ങനെ അവര് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ വഹിക്കുന്നതിനാല് നിനക്കു ഭാരം കുറയും.

22. So shall they judge the people at any time, and it shall be, all the great matters, shall they bring in unto thee, but all the small matters, shall, they themselves, judge, so, lighten thou the burden for thyself, and let them bear it with thee.

23. നീ ഈ കാര്യം ചെയ്കയും ദൈവം അതു അനുവദിക്കയും ചെയ്താല് നിനക്കു നിന്നുപൊറുക്കാം. ഈ ജനത്തിന്നൊക്കെയും സമാധാനത്തോടെ തങ്ങളുടെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോകയുമാം.

23. If, this thing, thou wilt do, and God shall command thee, then shalt thou be able to endure, yea, moreover, all this people, shall go in, unto their dwellings, contented.

24. മോശെ തന്റെ അമ്മായപ്പന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു, അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ഒക്കെയും ചെയ്തു.

24. So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said;

25. മോശെ എല്ലായിസ്രായേലില്നിന്നും പ്രാപ്തിയുള്ള പുരുഷന്മാരെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു അവരെ ആയിരംപേര്ക്കും അധിപതിമാരായും നൂറുപേര്ക്കും അധിപതിമാരായും അമ്പതുപേര്ക്കും അധിപതിമാരായും പത്തുപേര്ക്കും അധിപതിമാരായും ജനത്തിന്നു തലവന്മാരാക്കി.

25. and Moses chose men of ability out of all Israel, and set them to be heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

26. അവര് എല്ലാസമയത്തും ജനത്തിന്നു ന്യായം വിധിച്ചു വന്നു; വിഷമമുള്ള കാര്യം അവര് മോശെയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവരും; ചെറിയ കാര്യം ഒക്കെയും അവര് തന്നേ തീര്ക്കും.

26. And they shall judge the people, at any time, the hard matters, shall they bring in unto Moses, but all the small matters, shall, they themselves, judge.

27. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം മോശെ തന്റെ അമ്മായപ്പനെ യാത്ര അയച്ചു; അവന് സ്വദേശത്തേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

27. And Moses sent forth his father-in-law, and he went his way by himself unto his own land.
