1. In the third month after the people of Isra'el had left the land of Egypt, the same day they came to the Sinai Desert.

2. അവര് രെഫീദീമില്നിന്നു യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു, സീനായിമരുഭൂമിയില് വന്നു, മരുഭൂമിയില് പാളയമിറങ്ങി; അവിടെ പര്വ്വതത്തിന്നു എതിരെ യിസ്രായേല് പാളയമിറങ്ങി.

2. After setting out from Refidim and arriving at the Sinai Desert, they set up camp in the desert; there in front of the mountain, Isra'el set up camp.

3. മോശെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കയറിച്ചെന്നു; യഹോവ പര്വ്വതത്തില് നിന്നു അവനോടു വിളിച്ചു കല്പിച്ചതുനീ യാക്കോബ് ഗൃഹത്തോടു പറകയും യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളോടു അറിയിക്കയും ചെയ്യേണ്ടതെന്തെന്നാല്

3. Moshe went up to God, and ADONAI called to him from the mountain: 'Here is what you are to say to the household of Ya'akov, to tell the people of Isra'el:

4. ഞാന് മിസ്രയീമ്യരോടു ചെയ്തതും നിങ്ങളെ കഴുകന്മാരുടെ ചിറകിന്മേല് വഹിച്ചു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുത്തിയതും നിങ്ങള് കണ്ടുവല്ലോ.

4. 'You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself.

5. ആകയാല് നിങ്ങള് എന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു അനുസരിക്കയും എന്റെ നിയമം പ്രമാണിക്കയും ചെയ്താല് നിങ്ങള് എനിക്കു സകലജാതികളിലുംവെച്ചു പ്രത്യേക സമ്പത്തായിരിക്കും; ഭൂമി ഒക്കെയും എനിക്കുള്ളതല്ലോ.

5. Now if you will pay careful attention to what I say and keep my covenant, then you will be my own treasure from among all the peoples, for all the earth is mine;

6. നിങ്ങള് എനിക്കു ഒരു പുരോഹിതരാജത്വവും വിശുദ്ധജനവും ആകും. ഇവ നീ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളോടു പറയേണ്ടുന്ന വചനങ്ങള് ആകുന്നു.

6. and you will be a kingdom of [cohanim] for me, a nation set apart.' These are the words you are to speak to the people of Isra'el.'

7. മോശെ വന്നു ജനത്തിന്റെ മൂപ്പന്മാരെ വിളിച്ചു, യഹോവ തന്നോടു കല്പിച്ച ഈ വചനങ്ങളൊക്കെയും അവരെ പറഞ്ഞു കേള്പ്പിച്ചു.

7. Moshe came, summoned the leaders of the people and presented them with all these words which ADONAI had ordered him to say.

8. യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചതൊക്കെയും ഞങ്ങള് ചെയ്യും എന്നു ജനം ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു. മോശെ ജനത്തിന്റെ വാക്കു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

8. All the people answered as one, 'Everything ADONAI has said, we will do.' Moshe reported the words of the people to ADONAI.

9. യഹോവ മോശെയോടുഞാന് നിന്നോടു സംസാരിക്കുമ്പോള് ജനം കേള്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും നിന്നെ എന്നേക്കും വിശ്വസിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നും ഞാന് ഇതാ, മേഘതമസ്സില് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു, ജനത്തിന്റെ വാക്കു മോശെ യഹോവയോടു ബോധിപ്പിച്ചു.

9. ADONAI said to Moshe, 'See, I am coming to you in a thick cloud, so that the people will be able to hear when I speak with you and also to trust in you forever.' Moshe had told ADONAI what the people had said;

10. യഹോവ പിന്നെയും മോശെയോടു കല്പിച്ചതുനീ ജനത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു ഇന്നും നാളെയും അവരെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്ക;

10. so ADONAI said to Moshe, 'Go to the people; today and tomorrow separate them for me by having them wash their clothing;

11. അവര് വസ്ത്രം അലക്കി, മൂന്നാം ദിവസത്തേക്കു ഒരുങ്ങിയിരിക്കട്ടേ; മൂന്നാം ദിവസം യഹോവ സകല ജനവും കാണ്കെ സീനായിപര്വ്വത്തില് ഇറങ്ങും.

11. and prepare for the third day. For on the third day, ADONAI will come down on Mount Sinai before the eyes of all the people.

12. ജനം പര്വ്വതത്തില് കയറാതെയും അതിന്റെ അടിവാരം തൊടാതെയും ഇരിപ്പാന് സൂക്ഷിക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. നീ അവര്ക്കായി ചുറ്റും അതിര് തിരിക്കേണം; പര്വ്വതം തൊടുന്നവന് എല്ലാം മരണശിക്ഷ അനുഭവിക്കേണം.

12. You are to set limits for the people all around; and say, 'Be careful not to go up on the mountain or even touch its base; whoever touches the mountain will surely be put to death.

13. കൈ തൊടാതെ അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞോ എയ്തോ കൊന്നുകളയേണം; മൃഗമായാലും മനുഷ്യനായാലും ജീവനോടിരിക്കരുതു. കാഹളം ദീര്ഘമായി ധ്വനിക്കുമ്പോള് അവര് പര്വ്വതത്തിന്നു അടുത്തു വരട്ടെ.

13. No hand is to touch him; for he must be stoned or shot by arrows; neither animal nor human will be allowed to live.' When the [shofar] sounds, they may go up on the mountain.'

14. മോശെ പര്വ്വതത്തില്നിന്നു ജനത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു ജനത്തെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു; അവര് വസ്ത്രം അലക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

14. Moshe went down from the mountain to the people and separated the people for God, and they washed their clothing.

15. അവന് ജനത്തോടുമൂന്നാം ദിവസത്തേക്കു ഒരുങ്ങിയിരിപ്പിന് ; നിങ്ങളുടെ ഭാര്യമാരുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെല്ലരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. He said to the people, 'Prepare for the third day; don't approach a woman.'

16. മൂന്നാം ദിവസം നേരം വെളുത്തപ്പോള് ഇടിമുഴക്കവും മിന്നലും പര്വ്വതത്തില് കാര്മേഘവും മഹാഗംഭീരമായ കാഹളധ്വനിയും ഉണ്ടായി; പാളയത്തിലുള്ള ജനം ഒക്കെയും നടുങ്ങി.

16. On the morning of the third day, there was thunder, lightning and a thick cloud on the mountain. Then a [shofar] blast sounded so loudly that all the people in the camp trembled.

17. ദൈവത്തെ എതിരേല്പാന് മോശെ ജനത്തെ പാളയത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചു; അവര് പര്വ്വതത്തിന്റെ അടിവാരത്തുനിന്നു.

17. Moshe brought the people out of the camp to meet God; they stood near the base of the mountain.

18. യഹോവ തീയില് സീനായി പര്വ്വതത്തില് ഇറങ്ങുകയാല് അതു മുഴുവനും പുകകൊണ്ടു മൂടി; അതിന്റെ പുക തീച്ചൂളയിലെ പുകപോലെ പൊങ്ങി; പര്വ്വതം ഒക്കെയും ഏറ്റവും കുലുങ്ങി.

18. Mount Sinai was enveloped in smoke, because ADONAI descended onto it in fire- its smoke went up like the smoke from a furnace, and the whole mountain shook violently.

19. കാഹളധ്വനി ദീര്ഘമായി ഉറച്ചുറച്ചുവന്നപ്പോള് മോശെ സംസാരിച്ചു; ദൈവം ഉച്ചത്തില് അവനോടു ഉത്തരം അരുളി.

19. As the sound of the [shofar] grew louder and louder, Moshe spoke; and God answered him with a voice.

20. യഹോവ സീനായി പര്വ്വതത്തില് പര്വ്വതത്തിന്റെ കൊടുമുടിയില് ഇറങ്ങി; യഹോവ മോശെയെ പര്വ്വതത്തിന്റെ കൊടുമുടിയിലേക്കു വിളിച്ചു; മോശെ കയറിച്ചെന്നു.

20. ADONAI came down onto Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; then ADONAI called Moshe to the top of the mountain; and Moshe went up.

21. യഹോവ മോശെയോടു കല്പിച്ചതെന്തെന്നാല്ജനം നോക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അടുക്കല് കടന്നുവന്നിട്ടു അവരില് പലരും നശിച്ചുപോകാതിരിപ്പാന് നീ ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു അവരോടു അമര്ച്ചയായി കല്പിക്ക.

21. ADONAI said to Moshe, 'Go down and warn the people not to force their way through to ADONAI to see him; if they do, many of them will perish.

22. യഹോവയോടു അടുക്കുന്ന പുരോഹിതന്മാരും യഹോവ അവര്ക്കും ഹാനി വരുത്താതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു തങ്ങളെ ശുദ്ധീകരിക്കട്ടെ.

22. Even the [cohanim], who are allowed to approach ADONAI, must keep themselves holy; otherwise, ADONAI may break out against them.'

23. മോശെ യഹോവയോടുജനത്തിന്നു സീനായിപര്വ്വത്തില് കയറുവാന് പാടില്ല; പര്വ്വതത്തിന്നു അതിര് തിരിച്ചു അതിനെ ശുദ്ധമാക്കുക എന്നു ഞങ്ങളോടു അമര്ച്ചയായി കല്പിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. Moshe said to ADONAI, 'The people can't come up to Mount Sinai, because you ordered us to set limits around the mountain and separate it.'

24. യഹോവ അവനോടുഇറങ്ങിപ്പോക; നീ അഹരോനുമായി കയറിവരിക; എന്നാല് പുരോഹിതന്മാരും ജനവും യഹോവ അവര്ക്കും നാശം വരുത്താതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് കയറുവാന് അതിര് കടക്കരുതു.

24. But ADONAI answered him, 'Go, get down! Then come back up, you and Aharon with you. But don't let the [cohanim] and the people force their way through to come up to ADONAI, or he will break out against them.'

25. അങ്ങനെ മോശെ ജനത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇറങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

25. So Moshe went down to the people and told them.
