1. ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; അവരോടുകൂടെ ഇരിപ്പാന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.

1. Do not be envious of evil men, neither desire to be with them.

2. അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം സാഹസം ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ അധരം വേണ്ടാതനം പറയുന്നു.

2. For their heart studies robbery, and their lips speak evil.

3. ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു ഭവനം പണിയുന്നു; വിവേകംകൊണ്ടു അതു സ്ഥിരമായിവരുന്നു.

3. Through wisdom the house shall be built, and with intelligence it shall be established:

4. പരിജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ മുറികളില് വലിയേറിയതും മനോഹരവുമായ സകല സമ്പത്തും നിറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

4. And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and beautiful riches.

5. ജ്ഞാനിയായ പുരുഷന് ബലവാനാകുന്നു; പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ബലം വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

5. The wise man is strong; and the man of understanding is a mighty man of valour.

6. ഭരണസാമര്ത്ഥ്യത്തോടെ നീ യുദ്ധം നടത്തി ജയിക്കും; മന്ത്രിമാരുടെ ബഹുത്വത്തില് രക്ഷയുണ്ടു.

6. For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war, and in the multitude of counsellors there is saving health.

7. ജ്ഞാനം ഭോഷന്നു അത്യുന്നതമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് വായ് തുറക്കുന്നില്ല.

7. Wisdom, is too high for a fool; he shall not open his mouth in the gate.

8. ദോഷം ചെയ്വാന് നിരൂപിക്കുന്നവനെ ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു;

8. He that devises to do evil shall be called a man of evil designs.

9. ഭോഷന്റെ നിരൂപണം പാപം തന്നേ; പരിഹാസി മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും വെറുപ്പാകുന്നു.

9. The thought of the foolish is sin, and the scorner is an abomination to men.

10. കഷ്ടകാലത്തു നീ കുഴഞ്ഞുപോയാല് നിന്റെ ബലം നഷ്ടം തന്നേ.

10. If thou art slack in the day of tribulation, thy strength shall be reduced.

11. മരണത്തിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നവരെ വിടുവിക്ക; കുലെക്കായി വിറെച്ചു ചെല്ലുന്നവരെ രക്ഷിപ്പാന് നോക്കുക.

11. If thou forbear to deliver [those that are] drawn unto death and [those that are] ready to be slain,

12. ഞങ്ങള് അറിഞ്ഞില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞാല് ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുന്നവന് ഗ്രഹിക്കയില്ലയോ? നിന്റെ പ്രാണനെ കാക്കുന്നവന് അറികയില്ലയോ? അവന് മനുഷ്യന്നു പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം പകരം കൊടുക്കയില്ലയോ?

12. if thou should say, Behold, we knew it not; shall not he that weighs the hearts understand [it]? and he that keeps thy soul, does he [not] know [it]? and shall he [not] render to [every] man according to his works?

13. മകനേ, തേന് തിന്നുക; അതു നല്ലതല്ലോ; തേങ്കട്ട നിന്റെ അണ്ണാക്കിന്നു മധുരമത്രേ.

13. My son, eat of the honey, because [it is] good, and of the honeycomb, [which is] sweet to thy taste:

14. ജ്ഞാനവും നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നു അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ എന്നറിക; നീ അതു പ്രാപിച്ചാല് പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.

14. So [shall] the knowledge of wisdom [be] unto thy soul: if thou shalt find [it], and in the end thy hope shall not be cut off.

15. ദുഷ്ടാ, നീ നീതിമാന്റെ പാര്പ്പിടത്തിന്നു പതിയിരിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ വിശ്രാമസ്ഥലത്തെ നശിപ്പിക്കയുമരുതു.

15. Do not lay [in] wait, O wicked [man], against the dwelling of the righteous; do not spoil his resting place.

16. നീതിമാന് ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം വീണാലും എഴുന്നേലക്കും; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോ അനര്ത്ഥത്തില് നശിച്ചുപോകും.

16. For a just [man] falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked shall fall into evil.

17. നിന്റെ ശത്രു വീഴുമ്പോള് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; അവന് ഇടറുമ്പോള് നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ആനന്ദിക്കരുതു.

17. Do not rejoice when thy enemy falls, and do not let thy heart be glad when he stumbles

18. യഹോവ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവന്നു ഇഷ്ടക്കേടാകുവാനും തന്റെ കോപം അവങ്കല്നിന്നു മാറ്റിക്കളവാനും മതി.

18. lest the LORD see [it] and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

19. ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാര് നിമിത്തം മുഷിയരുതു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോടു അസൂയപ്പെടുകയും അരുതു.

19. Do not meddle with those who are evil, neither be envious of the wicked;

20. ദോഷിക്കു പ്രതിഫലമുണ്ടാകയില്ല; ദുഷ്ടന്റെ വിളകൂ കെട്ടുപോകും.

20. for the evil [man] shall not come to a good end; the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

21. മകനേ, യഹോവയെയും രാജാവിനെയും ഭയപ്പെടുക; മത്സരികളോടു ഇടപെടരുതു.

21. My son, fear the LORD and the king, [and] do not meddle with those that are given to change,

22. അവരുടെ ആപത്തു പെട്ടെന്നു വരും; രണ്ടു കൂട്ടര്ക്കും വരുന്ന നാശം ആരറിയുന്നു?

22. for their calamity shall rise suddenly; and the ruin of them both, who shall know it?

23. ഇവയും ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വാക്യങ്ങള്. ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തില് മുഖദാക്ഷിണ്യം നന്നല്ല.

23. These [things] also [belong] to the wise. [It is] not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

24. ദുഷ്ടനോടു നീ നീതിമാന് എന്നു പറയുന്നവനെ ജാതികള് ശപിക്കയും വംശങ്ങള് വെറുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.

24. He that saith unto the wicked, Thou [art] righteous; him shall the peoples curse, nations shall abhor him:

25. അവനെ ശാസിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കോ നന്മ ഉണ്ടാകും; നല്ലോരനുഗ്രഹം അവരുടെ മേല് വരും.

25. But unto those that rebuke [him] shall be delight, and a blessing of good shall come upon them.

26. നേരുള്ള ഉത്തരം പറയുന്നവന് അധരങ്ങളെ ചുംബനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

26. The lips of the one that gives a right answer shall be kissed.

27. വെളിയില് നിന്റെ വേല ചെയ്ക; വയലില് എല്ലാം തീര്ക്കുംക; പിന്നെത്തേതില് നിന്റെ വീടു പണിയുക.

27. Prepare thy work without and make it fit for thyself in thine inheritance, and afterwards thou shalt build thine house.

28. കാരണം കൂടാതെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വിരോധമായി സാക്ഷിനില്ക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ അധരംകൊണ്ടു ചതിക്കയും അരുതു.

28. Do not be a false witness against thy neighbour, and do not flatter with thy lips.

29. അവന് എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവനോടു ചെയ്യുമെന്നും ഞാന് അവന്നു അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു പകരം കൊടുക്കും എന്നും നീ പറയരുതു.

29. Do not say, I will do unto him as he has done unto me; I will render to the man according to his work.

30. ഞാന് മടിയന്റെ കണ്ടത്തിന്നരികെയും ബുദ്ധിഹീനന്റെ മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടത്തിന്നു സമീപെയും കൂടി പോയി.

30. I went by the field of the slothful and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding,

31. അവിടെ മുള്ളു പടര്ന്നുപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും തൂവ നിറഞ്ഞു നിലം മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നതും അതിന്റെ കന്മതില് ഇടിഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടു.

31. and, behold, it was all grown over with thorns, [and] nettles had covered its face, and its stone wall was broken down.

32. ഞാന് അതു നോക്കി വിചാരിക്കയും അതു കണ്ടു ഉപദേശം പ്രാപിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

32. Then I saw, [and] considered [it] well: I looked upon [it] [and] received chastening.

33. കുറെക്കൂടെ ഉറക്കം, കുറെക്കൂടെ നിദ്ര, കുറെക്കൂടെ കൈ കെട്ടി കിടക്ക.

33. [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

34. അങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ ദാരിദ്ര്യം വഴിപോക്കനെപ്പോലെയും നിന്റെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടു ആയുധപാണിയെപ്പോലെയും വരും.

34. So shall thy poverty come [as] one that travels and thy want as an armed man.:
