1. ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; അവരോടുകൂടെ ഇരിപ്പാന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.

1. Do not envy evil men, nor desire to be with them.

2. അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം സാഹസം ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ അധരം വേണ്ടാതനം പറയുന്നു.

2. For their heart studies violence, and their lips talk of mischief.

3. ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു ഭവനം പണിയുന്നു; വിവേകംകൊണ്ടു അതു സ്ഥിരമായിവരുന്നു.

3. Through wisdom a house is built, and it is established by understanding,

4. പരിജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ മുറികളില് വലിയേറിയതും മനോഹരവുമായ സകല സമ്പത്തും നിറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

4. and by knowledge the inner parts shall be filled with precious and pleasant riches.

5. ജ്ഞാനിയായ പുരുഷന് ബലവാനാകുന്നു; പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ബലം വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

5. A wise warrior is in strength: yes, a man of knowledge firms up power.

6. ഭരണസാമര്ത്ഥ്യത്തോടെ നീ യുദ്ധം നടത്തി ജയിക്കും; മന്ത്രിമാരുടെ ബഹുത്വത്തില് രക്ഷയുണ്ടു.

6. For you shall make war for yourself by wise advice, and safety is in the abundance of counselors.

7. ജ്ഞാനം ഭോഷന്നു അത്യുന്നതമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് വായ് തുറക്കുന്നില്ല.

7. Wisdom is too high for a fool, he does not open his mouth in the gate.

8. ദോഷം ചെയ്വാന് നിരൂപിക്കുന്നവനെ ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു;

8. He who plots to do evil shall be called a lord of evil plots.

9. ഭോഷന്റെ നിരൂപണം പാപം തന്നേ; പരിഹാസി മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും വെറുപ്പാകുന്നു.

9. The plot of foolishness is sin, and the scorner is hateful to men.

10. കഷ്ടകാലത്തു നീ കുഴഞ്ഞുപോയാല് നിന്റെ ബലം നഷ്ടം തന്നേ.

10. Your strength is small if you faint in the day of distress,

11. മരണത്തിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നവരെ വിടുവിക്ക; കുലെക്കായി വിറെച്ചു ചെല്ലുന്നവരെ രക്ഷിപ്പാന് നോക്കുക.

11. if you hold back to deliver those being taken to death, and those stumbling for killing.

12. ഞങ്ങള് അറിഞ്ഞില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞാല് ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുന്നവന് ഗ്രഹിക്കയില്ലയോ? നിന്റെ പ്രാണനെ കാക്കുന്നവന് അറികയില്ലയോ? അവന് മനുഷ്യന്നു പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം പകരം കൊടുക്കയില്ലയോ?

12. For you say, Behold, we did not know this. Does not He who weighs the heart consider it? And the One who keeps your soul, does He not know? Yea, He repays to a man according to his work.

13. മകനേ, തേന് തിന്നുക; അതു നല്ലതല്ലോ; തേങ്കട്ട നിന്റെ അണ്ണാക്കിന്നു മധുരമത്രേ.

13. My son, eat honey because it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to your palate;

14. ജ്ഞാനവും നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നു അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ എന്നറിക; നീ അതു പ്രാപിച്ചാല് പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.

14. so shall knowledge of wisdom be to your soul when you have found there is a future and your hope is not cut off.

15. ദുഷ്ടാ, നീ നീതിമാന്റെ പാര്പ്പിടത്തിന്നു പതിയിരിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ വിശ്രാമസ്ഥലത്തെ നശിപ്പിക്കയുമരുതു.

15. Oh wicked one, do not lie in wait against the dwelling of the righteous; do not violate his resting place,

16. നീതിമാന് ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം വീണാലും എഴുന്നേലക്കും; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോ അനര്ത്ഥത്തില് നശിച്ചുപോകും.

16. for a just one falls seven times and rises up again, but the wicked shall stumble into evil.

17. നിന്റെ ശത്രു വീഴുമ്പോള് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; അവന് ഇടറുമ്പോള് നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ആനന്ദിക്കരുതു.

17. Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles,

18. യഹോവ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവന്നു ഇഷ്ടക്കേടാകുവാനും തന്റെ കോപം അവങ്കല്നിന്നു മാറ്റിക്കളവാനും മതി.

18. that Jehovah not see and it be evil in His eyes, and He turn away His anger from him.

19. ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാര് നിമിത്തം മുഷിയരുതു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോടു അസൂയപ്പെടുകയും അരുതു.

19. Do not burn in anger because of evildoers, and do not envy the wicked;

20. ദോഷിക്കു പ്രതിഫലമുണ്ടാകയില്ല; ദുഷ്ടന്റെ വിളകൂ കെട്ടുപോകും.

20. for no hereafter shall be to the evil; the lamp of the wicked will be put out.

21. മകനേ, യഹോവയെയും രാജാവിനെയും ഭയപ്പെടുക; മത്സരികളോടു ഇടപെടരുതു.

21. My son, fear Jehovah and the king; do not meddle with those who change,

22. അവരുടെ ആപത്തു പെട്ടെന്നു വരും; രണ്ടു കൂട്ടര്ക്കും വരുന്ന നാശം ആരറിയുന്നു?

22. for their calamity shall rise suddenly, and who knows the ruin of both of them?

23. ഇവയും ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വാക്യങ്ങള്. ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തില് മുഖദാക്ഷിണ്യം നന്നല്ല.

23. These also are for the wise: to respect persons in judgment is not good.

24. ദുഷ്ടനോടു നീ നീതിമാന് എന്നു പറയുന്നവനെ ജാതികള് ശപിക്കയും വംശങ്ങള് വെറുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.

24. He who says to the wicked, You are righteous; the peoples shall curse him; nations shall abhor him.

25. അവനെ ശാസിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കോ നന്മ ഉണ്ടാകും; നല്ലോരനുഗ്രഹം അവരുടെ മേല് വരും.

25. But to those who rebuke, it is pleasant, and a good blessing comes to them.

26. നേരുള്ള ഉത്തരം പറയുന്നവന് അധരങ്ങളെ ചുംബനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

26. He kisses the lips of one who returns right words.

27. വെളിയില് നിന്റെ വേല ചെയ്ക; വയലില് എല്ലാം തീര്ക്കുംക; പിന്നെത്തേതില് നിന്റെ വീടു പണിയുക.

27. Prepare your work outside, and make it fit for yourself in the field, and afterwards build your house.

28. കാരണം കൂടാതെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വിരോധമായി സാക്ഷിനില്ക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ അധരംകൊണ്ടു ചതിക്കയും അരുതു.

28. Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, or deceive with your lips.

29. അവന് എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവനോടു ചെയ്യുമെന്നും ഞാന് അവന്നു അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു പകരം കൊടുക്കും എന്നും നീ പറയരുതു.

29. Do not say, I will do to him as he has done to me; I will repay each according to his work.

30. ഞാന് മടിയന്റെ കണ്ടത്തിന്നരികെയും ബുദ്ധിഹീനന്റെ മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടത്തിന്നു സമീപെയും കൂടി പോയി.

30. I went over the field of the lazy man, and by the vineyard of the man lacking heart,

31. അവിടെ മുള്ളു പടര്ന്നുപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും തൂവ നിറഞ്ഞു നിലം മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നതും അതിന്റെ കന്മതില് ഇടിഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടു.

31. and, lo, it was all risen up with thistles; nettles had covered its surface, and its stone wall was broken down.

32. ഞാന് അതു നോക്കി വിചാരിക്കയും അതു കണ്ടു ഉപദേശം പ്രാപിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

32. And I beheld, I set my heart on it, I looked, I received instruction.

33. കുറെക്കൂടെ ഉറക്കം, കുറെക്കൂടെ നിദ്ര, കുറെക്കൂടെ കൈ കെട്ടി കിടക്ക.

33. A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to lie down;

34. അങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ ദാരിദ്ര്യം വഴിപോക്കനെപ്പോലെയും നിന്റെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടു ആയുധപാണിയെപ്പോലെയും വരും.

34. so shall your poverty come stalking, and your want like a man with a shield.
