1. ബെന്യാമീന് മക്കളേ, യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ നടുവില്നിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോകുവിന് ; തെക്കോവയില് കാഹളം ഊതുവിന് ; ബേത്ത്--ഹക്കേരെമില് ഒരു തീക്കുറി ഉയര്ത്തുവിന് വടക്കു നിന്നു അനര്ഥവും മഹാ നാശവും കാണായ്വരുന്നു.

1. Strengthen yourselves, sons of Benjamin, From the midst of Jerusalem, And in Tekoa blow ye a trumpet, And over Beth-Haccerem lift ye up a flame, For evil hath been seen from the north, And great destruction.

2. സുന്ദരിയും സുഖഭോഗിനിയുമായ സീയോന് പുത്രിയെ ഞാന് മുടിച്ചുകളയും.

2. The comely and the delicate one I have cut off, The daughter of Zion.

3. അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ഇടയന്മാര് ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ വരും; അവര് അവള്ക്കെതിരെ ചുറ്റിലും കൂടാരം അടിക്കും; അവര് ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ ഭാഗത്തു മേയിക്കും.

3. Unto her come do shepherds and their droves, They have stricken tents by her round about, They have fed each [in] his own station.

4. അതിന്റെ നേരെ പടയൊരുക്കുവിന് ! എഴുന്നേല്പിന് ഉച്ചെക്കു തന്നേ നമുക്കു കയറിച്ചെല്ലാം! അയ്യോ കഷ്ടം! നേരം വൈകി നിഴല് നീണ്ടുപോയി.

4. Sanctify ye against her the battle, Rise, and we go up at noon. Woe to us, for turned hath the day, For stretched out are the shades of evening,

5. എഴുന്നേല്പിന് ! രാത്രിയില് നാം കയറിച്ചെന്നു അതിലെ അരമനകളെ നശിപ്പിക്കുക!

5. 'Rise, and we go up by night, And we destroy her palaces.'

6. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം കല്പിക്കുന്നുവൃക്ഷം മുറിപ്പിന് ! യെരൂശലേമിന്നു നേരെ വാട കോരുവിന് ! സന്ദര്ശിക്കപ്പെടുവാനുള്ള നഗരം ഇതുതന്നേ; അതിന്റെ അകം മുഴുവനും പീഡനം നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു;

6. For thus said Jehovah of Hosts: Cut down her wood, And pour out against Jerusalem a mount, She [is] the city to be inspected, Wholly -- she is oppression in her midst.

7. കിണറ്റില് പച്ചവെള്ളം നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ അതില് എപ്പോഴും പുതിയ ദുഷ്ടത സംഭവിക്കുന്നു; സാഹസവും കവര്ച്ചയുമേ അവിടെ കേള്പ്പാനുള്ളു; എന്റെ മുമ്പില് എപ്പോഴും ദീനവും മുറിവും മാത്രമേയുള്ളു.

7. As the digging of a well, is [for] its waters, So she hath digged [for] her wickedness, Violence and spoil is heard in her, Before My face continually [are] sickness and smiting.

8. യെരൂശലേമേ, എന്റെ ഉള്ളം നിന്നെ വിട്ടുപിരിയാതെയും ഞാന് നിന്നെ ശൂന്യവും നിര്ജ്ജനപ്രദേശവും ആക്കാതെയും ഇരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഉപദേശം കൈക്കൊള്ക.

8. Be instructed, O Jerusalem, Lest My soul be alienated from thee, Lest I make thee a desolation, a land not inhabited.

9. സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുയിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ശേഷിപ്പിനെ മുന്തിരിപ്പഴംപോലെ അരിച്ചു പറിക്കും; മുന്തിരിപ്പഴം പറിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെ നിന്റെ കൈ വീണ്ടും വള്ളികളിലേക്കു നീട്ടുക.

9. Thus said Jehovah of Hosts: They surely glean, as a vine, the remnant of Israel, Put back thy hand, as a gatherer to the baskets.

10. അവര് കേള്പ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ഞാന് ആരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു സാക്ഷീകരിക്കേണ്ടു? അവരുടെ ചെവിക്കു പരിച്ഛേദന ഇല്ലായ്കയാല് ശ്രദ്ധിപ്പാന് അവര്ക്കും കഴികയില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ വചനം അവര്ക്കും നിന്ദയായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര്ക്കും അതില് ഇഷ്ടമില്ല.

10. To whom do I speak, and testify, and they hear? Lo, their ear [is] uncircumcised, And they are not able to attend. Lo, a word of Jehovah hath been to them for a reproach, They delight not in it.

11. ആകയാല് ഞാന് യഹോവയുടെ ക്രോധംകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു; അതു അടക്കിവെച്ചു ഞാന് തളര്ന്നുപോയി; ഞാന് അതു വീഥികളിലെ കുട്ടികളിന്മേലും യൌവനക്കാരുടെ സംഘത്തിന്മേലും ഒരുപോലെ ഒഴിച്ചുകളയും; ഭര്ത്താവും ഭാര്യയും വൃദ്ധനും വയോധികനും കൂടെ പിടിപെടും.

11. And with the fury of Jehovah I have been filled, (I have been weary of containing,) To pour [it] on the suckling in the street, And on the assembly of youths together, For even husband with wife are captured, An elder with one full of days,

12. അവരുടെ വീടുകളും നിലങ്ങളും ഭാര്യമാരും എല്ലാം അന്യന്മാര്ക്കും ആയിപ്പോകും; ഞാന് എന്റെ കൈ ദേശത്തിലെ നിവാസികളുടെ നേരെ നീട്ടും എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

12. And their houses have been turned to others, Fields and wives together, For I stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land, An affirmation of Jehovah.

13. അവരൊക്കെയും ആബാലവൃദ്ധം ദ്രവ്യാഗ്രഹികള് ആകുന്നു; പ്രവാചകന്മാരും പുരോഹിതന്മാരും ഒരുപോലെ വ്യാജം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നു.

13. For from their least unto their greatest, Every one is gaining dishonest gain, And from prophet even unto priest, Every one is dealing falsely,

14. സമാധാനം ഇല്ലാതിരിക്കെ, സമാധാനം സമാധാനം എന്നു അവര് പറഞ്ഞു എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ മുറിവിന്നു ലഘുവായി ചികിത്സിക്കുന്നു.

14. And they heal the breach of the daughter of my people slightly, Saying, 'Peace, peace!' and there is no peace.

15. മ്ളേച്ഛത പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് ലജ്ജിക്കേണ്ടിവരും; അവര് ലജ്ജിക്കയോ നാണം അറികയോ ചെയ്തിട്ടില്ല; അതുകൊണ്ടു വീഴുന്നവരുടെ ഇടയില് അവര് വീണുപോകും; ഞാന് അവരെ സന്ദര്ശിക്കുന്ന കാലത്തു അവര് ഇടറി വീഴും എന്നു യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു.

15. They were ashamed when they did abomination! Yea, they are not at all ashamed, Yea, blushing they have not known, Therefore they do fall among those falling, In the time I have inspected them, They stumble, said Jehovah.

16. യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുനിങ്ങള് വഴികളില് ചെന്നു നല്ലവഴി ഏതെന്നു പഴയ പാതകളെ നോക്കി ചോദിച്ചു അതില് നടപ്പിന് ; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങളുടെ മനസ്സിന്നു വിശ്രാമം ലഭിക്കും. അവരോഞങ്ങള് അതില് നടക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. Thus said Jehovah: Stand ye by the ways and see, and ask for paths of old, Where [is] this -- the good way? and go ye in it, And find rest for yourselves. And they say, 'We do not go.'

17. ഞാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു കാവല്ക്കാരെ ആക്കികാഹളനാദം ശ്രദ്ധിപ്പിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു; എന്നാല് അവര്ഞങ്ങള് ശ്രദ്ധിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. And I have raised up for you watchmen, Attend ye to the voice of the trumpet. And they say, 'We do not attend.'

18. അതുകൊണ്ടു ജാതികളേ, കേള്പ്പിന് ; സഭയേ, അവരുടെ ഇടയില് നടക്കുന്നതു അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ക.

18. Therefore hear, O nations, and know, O company, That which [is] upon them.

19. ഭൂമിയോ, കേള്ക്ക; ഈ ജനം എന്റെ വചനങ്ങളെ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതെ എന്റെ ന്യായപ്രമാണത്തെ നിരസിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു, ഞാന് അവരുടെ വിചാരങ്ങളുടെ ഫലമായി അനര്ത്ഥം അവരുടെമേല് വരുത്തും.

19. Hear, O earth, lo, I am bringing evil on this people, The fruit of their devices, For to My words they gave no attention, And My law -- they kick against it.

20. ശെബയില്നിന്നു കുന്തുരുക്കവും ദൂരദേശത്തുനിന്നു വയമ്പും എനിക്കു കൊണ്ടുവരുന്നതു എന്തിനു? നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളില് എനിക്കു പ്രസാദമില്ല; നിങ്ങളുടെ ഹനനയാഗങ്ങളില് എനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടവുമില്ല.

20. Why [is] this to Me? frankincense from Sheba cometh, And the sweet cane from a land afar off, Your burnt-offerings [are] not for acceptance, And your sacrifices have not been sweet to Me.

21. ആകയാല് യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഞാന് ഈ ജനത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇടര്ച്ചകളെ വേക്കും; പിതാക്കന്മാരും പുത്രന്മാരും ഒരുപോലെ അതിന്മേല് തട്ടി വീഴും; അയല്ക്കാരനും കൂട്ടുകാരനും നശിച്ചുപോകും.

21. Therefore thus said Jehovah: Lo, I do give to this people stumbling blocks, And stumbled against them have fathers and sons together, The neighbour and his friend do perish.

22. യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നുഇതാ, വടക്കുദേശത്തുനിന്നു ഒരു ജാതി വരുന്നു; ഭൂമിയുടെ അറ്റങ്ങളില്നിന്നു ഒരു മഹാജാതി ഉണര്ന്നുവരും.

22. Thus said Jehovah: Lo, a people hath come from a north country, And a great nation is stirred up from the sides of the earth.

23. അവര് വില്ലും കുന്തവും എടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു; അവര് ക്രൂരന്മാര്; കരുണയില്ലാത്തവര് തന്നേ; അവരുടെ ആരവം കടല്പോലെ ഇരെക്കുന്നു; സീയോന് പുത്രീ, അവര് നിന്റെ നേരെ യുദ്ധസന്നദ്ധരായി ഔരോരുത്തരും കുതിരപ്പുറത്തു കയറി അണിനിരന്നു നിലക്കുന്നു.

23. Bow and javelin they take hold of, Fierce it [is], and they have no mercy, Their voice as a sea doth sound, And on horses they ride, set in array as a man of war, Against thee, O daughter of Zion.

24. അതിന്റെ വര്ത്തമാനം കേട്ടിട്ടു ഞങ്ങളുടെ ധൈര്യം ക്ഷയിച്ചു, നോവു കിട്ടിയ സ്ത്രീയെപ്പോലെ മഹാവ്യസനവും അതിവേദനയും ഞങ്ങളെ പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

24. 'We have heard its sound, feeble have been our hands, Distress hath seized us, pain as of a travailing woman.

25. നിങ്ങള് വയലിലേക്കു ചെല്ലരുതു; വഴിയില് നടക്കയുമരുതു; അവിടെ ശത്രുവിന്റെ വാളും ചുറ്റും ഭയവും ഉണ്ടു.

25. Go not forth to the field, And in the way walk not, For a sword hath the enemy, fear [is] round about.

26. എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ പുത്രീ, രട്ടുടുത്തു വെണ്ണീറില് ഉരുളുക; ഏകജാതനെക്കുറിച്ചു എന്നപോലെയുള്ള ദുഃഖവും കഠിനമായുള്ള വിലാപവും കഴിച്ചുകൊള്ക; സംഹാരകന് പെട്ടെന്നു നമ്മുടെ നേരെ വരും.

26. O daughter of My people, Gird on sackcloth, and roll thyself in ashes, The mourning of an only one make for thee, A lamentation most bitter, For suddenly come doth the spoiler against us.

27. നീ എന്റെ ജനത്തിന്റെ നടപ്പു പരീക്ഷിച്ചറിയേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നെ അവരുടെ ഇടയില് ഒരു പരീക്ഷകനും മാറ്റുനോക്കുന്നവനും ആക്കി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. A watch-tower I have given thee, Among My people a fortress, And thou knowest, and hast tried their way.

28. അവരെല്ലാവരും മഹാ മത്സരികള്, നുണപറഞ്ഞു നടക്കുന്നവര്; ചെമ്പും ഇരിമ്പും അത്രേ; അവരെല്ലാവരും വഷളത്വം പ്രവര്ത്തിക്കുന്നു.

28. All of them are turned aside by apostates, Walking slanderously -- brass and iron, All of them are corrupters.

29. തുരുത്തി ഊതുന്നു; തീയില്നിന്നു വരുന്നതു ഈയമത്രേ; ഊതിക്കഴിക്കുന്ന പണി വെറുതെ; ദുഷ്ടന്മാര് നീങ്ങിപ്പോകുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.

29. The bellows have been burnt, By fire hath the lead been consumed, In vain hath a refiner refined, And the wicked have not been drawn away.

30. യഹോവ അവരെ ത്യജിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞതുകൊണ്ടു അവര്ക്കും കറക്കന് വെള്ളി എന്നു പേരാകും. sയഹോവയിങ്കല്നിന്നു യിരെമ്യാവിന്നുണ്ടായ അരുളപ്പാടു എന്തെന്നാല്

30. 'Silver rejected,' they have called to them, For Jehovah hath kicked against them!
