1. പരീശപ്രമാണികളില് ഒരുത്തന്റെ വീട്ടില് അവന് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിപ്പാന് ശബ്ബത്തില് ചെന്നപ്പോള് അവര് അവനെ ഉറ്റുനോക്കിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

1. Now it happened that on a Sabbath day he had gone to share a meal in the house of one of the leading Pharisees; and they watched him closely.

2. മഹോദരമുള്ളോരു മനുഷ്യന് അവന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

2. Now there in front of him was a man with dropsy,

3. യേശു ന്യായശാസ്ത്രിമാരോടും പരീശന്മാരോടുംശബ്ബത്തില് സൌഖ്യമാക്കുന്നതു വിഹിതമോ അല്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അവരോ മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നു.

3. and Jesus addressed the lawyers and Pharisees with the words, 'Is it against the law to cure someone on the Sabbath, or not?'

4. അവന് അവനെ തൊട്ടു സൌഖ്യമാക്കി വിട്ടയച്ചു.

4. But they remained silent, so he took the man and cured him and sent him away.

5. പിന്നെ അവരോടുനിങ്ങളില് ഒരുത്തന്റെ മകനോ കാളയോ ശബ്ബത്തു നാളില് കിണറ്റില് വീണാല് ക്ഷണത്തില്

5. Then he said to them, 'Which of you here, if his son falls into a well, or his ox, will not pull him out on a Sabbath day without any hesitation?'

6. വലിച്ചെടുക്കയില്ലയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു പ്രത്യുത്തരം പറവാന് അവര്ക്കും കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

6. And to this they could find no answer.

7. ക്ഷണിക്കപ്പെട്ടവര് മുഖ്യാസനങ്ങളെ തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവന് അവരോടു ഒരുപമ പറഞ്ഞു

7. He then told the guests a parable, because he had noticed how they picked the places of honour. He said this,

8. ഒരുത്തന് നിന്നെ കല്യാണത്തിന്നു വിളിച്ചാല് മുഖ്യാസനത്തില് ഇരിക്കരുതു; പക്ഷെ നിന്നിലും മാനമേറിയവനെ അവന് വിളിച്ചിരിക്കാം.

8. 'When someone invites you to a wedding feast, do not take your seat in the place of honour. A more distinguished person than you may have been invited,

9. പിന്നെ നിന്നെയും അവനെയും ക്ഷണിച്ചവന് വന്നുഇവന്നു ഇടം കൊടുക്ക എന്നു നിന്നോടു പറയുമ്പോള് നീ നാണത്തോടെ ഒടുക്കത്തെ സ്ഥലത്തുപോയി ഇരിക്കേണ്ടിവരും.

9. and the person who invited you both may come and say, 'Give up your place to this man.' And then, to your embarrassment, you will have to go and take the lowest place.

10. നിന്നെ വിളിച്ചാല് ചെന്നു ഒടുക്കത്തെ സ്ഥലത്തു ഇരിക്ക; നിന്നെ ക്ഷണിച്ചവന് വരുമ്പോള് നിന്നോടുസ്നേഹിതാ, മുമ്പോട്ടു വന്നു ഇരിക്ക എന്നുപറവാന് ഇടവരട്ടെ; അപ്പോള് പന്തിയില് ഇരിക്കുന്നവരുടെ മുമ്പില് നിനക്കു മാനം ഉണ്ടാകും.

10. No; when you are a guest, make your way to the lowest place and sit there, so that, when your host comes, he may say, 'My friend, move up higher.' Then, everyone with you at the table will see you honoured.

11. തന്നെത്താന് ഉയര്ത്തുന്നവന് എല്ലാം താഴ്ത്തപ്പെടും; തന്നെത്താന് താഴ്ത്തുന്നവന് ഉയര്ത്തപ്പെടും.

11. For everyone who raises himself up will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be raised up.'

12. തന്നെ ക്ഷണിച്ചവനോടു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുനീ ഒരു മുത്താഴമോ അത്താഴമോ കഴിക്കുമ്പോള് സ്നേഹിതന്മാരേയും സഹോരദരന്മാരെയും ചാര്ച്ചക്കാരെയും സമ്പത്തുള്ള അയല്ക്കാരെയും വിളിക്കരുതു; അവര് നിന്നെ അങ്ങോട്ടും വിളിച്ചിട്ടു നിനക്കു പ്രത്യുപകാരം ചെയ്യും.

12. Then he said to his host, 'When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relations or rich neighbours, in case they invite you back and so repay you.

13. നീ വിരുന്നു കഴിക്കുമ്പോള് ദരിദ്രന്മാര്, അംഗഹീനന്മാര് മുടന്തന്മാര്, കുരുടുന്മാര് എന്നിവരെ ക്ഷണിക്ക;

13. No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;

14. എന്നാല് നീ ഭാഗ്യവാനാകും; നിനക്കു പ്രത്യുപകാരം ചെയ്വാന് അവര്ക്കും വകയില്ലല്ലോ; നീതിമാന്മാരരുടെ പുനരുത്ഥാനത്തില് നിനക്കു പ്രത്യുപകാരം ഉണ്ടാകും.

14. then you will be blessed, for they have no means to repay you and so you will be repaid when the upright rise again.'

15. കൂടെ പന്തിയിരിരുന്നവരില് ഒരുത്തന് ഇതു കേട്ടിട്ടുദൈവരാജ്യത്തില് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുന്നവന് ഭാഗ്യവാന് എന്നു അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞു;

15. On hearing this, one of those gathered round the table said to him, 'Blessed is anyone who will share the meal in the kingdom of God!'

16. അവനോടു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുഒരു മനുഷ്യന് വലിയോരു അത്താഴം ഒരുക്കി പലരെയും ക്ഷണിച്ചു.

16. But he said to him, 'There was a man who gave a great banquet, and he invited a large number of people.

17. അത്താഴസമയത്തു അവന് തന്റെ ദാസനെ അയച്ചു ആ ക്ഷണിച്ചവരോടുഎല്ലാം ഒരുങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു; വരുവിന് എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

17. When the time for the banquet came, he sent his servant to say to those who had been invited, 'Come along: everything is ready now.'

18. എല്ലാവരും ഒരു പോലെ ഒഴികഴിവു പറഞ്ഞുതുടങ്ങി; ഒന്നാമത്തവന് അവനോടുഞാന് ഒരു നിലം കൊണ്ടതിനാല് അതു ചെന്നു കാണേണ്ടുന്ന ആവശ്യം ഉണ്ടു; എന്നോടു ക്ഷമിച്ചുകൊള്ളേണം എന്നു ഞാന് അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. But all alike started to make excuses. The first said, 'I have bought a piece of land and must go and see it. Please accept my apologies.'

19. മറ്റൊരുത്തന് ഞാന് അഞ്ചേര്കാളയെ കൊണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടു; അവയെ ശോധന ചെയ്വാന് പോകുന്നു; എന്നോടു ക്ഷമിച്ചുകൊള്ളേണം എന്നു ഞാന് അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen and am on my way to try them out. Please accept my apologies.'

20. വേറൊരുത്തന് ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള്വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; വരുവാന് കഴിവില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. Yet another said, 'I have just got married and so am unable to come.'

21. ദാസന് മടങ്ങിവന്നു യജമാനനോടു അറിയിച്ചു. അപ്പോള് വീട്ടുടയവന് കോപിച്ചു ദാസനോടുനീ വേഗം പട്ടണത്തിലെ വീഥികളിലും ഇടത്തെരുക്കളിലും ചെന്നു ദരിദ്രന്മാര്, അംഗഹീനന്മാര്, കുരുടന്മാര്, മുടന്തന്മാര്, എന്നിവരെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

21. 'The servant returned and reported this to his master. Then the householder, in a rage, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in here the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.'

22. പിന്നെ ദാസന് യജമാനനേ, കല്പിച്ചതു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനിയും സ്ഥലം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

22. 'Sir,' said the servant, 'your orders have been carried out and there is still room.'

23. യജമാനന് ദാസനോടുനീ പെരുവഴികളിലും വേലികള്ക്കരികെയും പോയി, എന്റെ വീടുനിറയേണ്ടതിന്നു കണ്ടവരെ അകത്തുവരുവാന് നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിക്ക.

23. Then the master said to his servant, 'Go to the open roads and the hedgerows and press people to come in, to make sure my house is full;

24. ആ ക്ഷണിച്ച പുരുഷന്മാര് ആരും എന്റെ അത്താഴം ആസ്വദിക്കയില്ല എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. because, I tell you, not one of those who were invited shall have a taste of my banquet.' '

25. ഏറിയ പുരുഷാരം അവനോടുകൂടെ പോകുമ്പോള് അവന് തിരിഞ്ഞു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞതു

25. Great crowds accompanied him on his way and he turned and spoke to them.

26. എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരികയും അപ്പനെയും അമ്മയെയും ഭാര്യയെയും മക്കളെയും സഹോദരന്മാരെയും സഹോദരികളെയും സ്വന്തജീവനെയും കൂടെ പകെക്കാതിരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നവന്നു എന്റെ ശിഷ്യനായിരിപ്പാന് കഴികയില്ല.
ആവർത്തനം 33:9

26. 'Anyone who comes to me without hating father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and his own life too, cannot be my disciple.

27. തന്റെ ക്രൂശു എടുത്തു കൊണ്ടു എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരാത്തവന്നു എന്റെ ശിഷ്യനായിരിപ്പാന് കഴിയില്ല.

27. No one who does not carry his cross and come after me can be my disciple.

28. നിങ്ങളില് ആരെങ്കിലും ഒരു ഗോപുരം പണിവാന് ഇച്ഛിച്ചാല് ആദ്യം ഇരുന്നു അതു തീര്പ്പാന് വക ഉണ്ടോ എന്നു കണകൂ നോക്കുന്നില്ലയോ?

28. 'And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out the cost to see if he had enough to complete it?

29. അല്ലെങ്കില് അടിസ്ഥാനം ഇട്ടശേഷം തീര്പ്പാന് വകയില്ല എന്നു വന്നേക്കാം;

29. Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work, anyone who saw it would start making fun of him and saying,

30. കാണുന്നവര് എല്ലാം; ഈ മനുഷ്യര് പണിവാന് തുടങ്ങി, തീര്പ്പാനോ വകയില്ല എന്നു പരിഹസിക്കുമല്ലോ.

30. Here is someone who started to build and was unable to finish.'

31. അല്ല, ഒരു രാജാവു മറ്റൊരു രാജാവിനോടു പട ഏല്പാന് പുറപ്പെടുംമുമ്പേ ഇരുന്നു, ഇരുപതിനായിരവുമായി വരുന്നവനോടു താന് പതിനായിരവുമായി എതിര്പ്പാന് മതിയോ എന്നു ആലോചിക്കുന്നില്ലയോ?

31. Or again, what king marching to war against another king would not first sit down and consider whether with ten thousand men he could stand up to the other who was advancing against him with twenty thousand?

32. പോരാ എന്നു വരികില് മറ്റവന് ദൂരത്തിരിക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നേ സ്ഥാനാപതികളെ അയച്ചു സമാധാനത്തിന്നായി അപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.

32. If not, then while the other king was still a long way off, he would send envoys to sue for peace.

33. അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ നിങ്ങളില് ആരെങ്കിലും തനിക്കുള്ളതു ഒക്കെയും വിട്ടുപിരിയുന്നില്ല എങ്കില് അവന്നു എന്റെ ശിഷ്യനായിരിപ്പാന് കഴികയില്ല.

33. So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple without giving up all that he owns.

34. ഉപ്പു നല്ലതു തന്നേ; ഉപ്പു കാരമില്ലാതെ പോയാല് എന്തൊന്നുകൊണ്ടു അതിന്നു രസം വരുത്തും?

34. 'Salt is a good thing. But if salt itself loses its taste, what can make it salty again?

35. പിന്നെ നിലത്തിന്നും വളത്തിന്നും കൊള്ളുന്നതല്ല; അതിനെ പുറത്തു കളയും. കേള്പ്പാന് ചെവി ഉള്ളവന് കേള്ക്കട്ടെ

35. It is good for neither soil nor manure heap. People throw it away. Anyone who has ears for listening should listen!'
