1. തീബെര്യ്യൊസ് കൈസരുടെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ പതിനഞ്ചാം ആണ്ടില് പൊന്തിയൊസ് പീലാത്തൊസ് യെഹൂദ്യനാടു വാഴുമ്പോള്, ഹെരോദാവു ഗലീലയിലും അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഫീലിപ്പൊസ് ഇരൂര്യ്യത്രഖോനിത്തിദേശങ്ങളിലും ലുസാന്യാസ് അബിലേനയിലും

1. In the fifteenth year of Emperor Tiberius' rule; when Pontius Pilate was governor of Y'hudah, Herod ruler of the Galil, his brother Philip ruler of Iturea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias ruler of Abilene,

2. ഇടപ്രഭൂക്കന്മാരായും ഹന്നാവും കയ്യഫാവും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരായും ഇരിക്കും കാലം സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹന്നാന്നു മരുഭൂമിയില്വെച്ചു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായി.

2. with 'Anan and Kayafa being the [cohanim g'dolim]; the word of God came to Yochanan Ben-Z'kharyah in the desert.

3. അവന് യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള നാട്ടില് ഒക്കെയും വന്നു പാപമോചനത്തിനായുള്ള മാനസാന്തരസ്നാനം പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.

3. He went all through the Yarden region proclaiming an immersion involving turning to God from sin in order to be forgiven.

4. “മരുഭൂമിയില് വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതുകര്ത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കുവിന് ; അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിന് .”

4. It was just as had been written in the book of the sayings of the prophet Yesha'yahu, 'The voice of someone crying out: 'In the desert prepare the way for ADONAI! Make straight paths for him!

5. എല്ലാതാഴ്വരയും നികന്നുവരും; എല്ലാമലയും കുന്നും താഴും; വളഞ്ഞതു ചൊവ്വായും ദുര്ഘടമായതു നിരന്ന വഴിയായും തീരും; സകലജഡവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ കാണും” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതു പോലെ തന്നേ.

5. Every valley must be filled in, every mountain and hill leveled off; the winding roads must be straightened and the rough ways made smooth.

6. അവനാല് സ്നാനം ഏല്പാന് വന്ന പുരുഷാരത്തോടു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുസര്പ്പസന്തതികളേ, വരുവാനുള്ള കോപത്തെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞ് ഔടിപ്പോകുവാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു ആര്?

6. Then all humanity will see God's deliverance.''

7. മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ ഫലം കായിപ്പിന് . അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടുണ്ടു; എന്നു ഉള്ളം കൊണ്ടു പറവാന് തുനിയരുതു; അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു ഈ കല്ലുകളില് നിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

7. Therefore, Yochanan said to the crowds who came out to be immersed by him, 'You snakes! Who warned you to escape the coming punishment?

8. ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ല ഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയില് ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.

8. If you have really turned from your sins, produce fruit that will prove it! And don't start saying to yourselves, 'Avraham is our father'! For I tell you that God can raise up for Avraham sons from these stones!

9. എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു പുരുഷാരം അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. Already the axe is at the root of the trees, ready to strike; every tree that doesn't produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown in the fire!'

10. അതിന്നു അവന് രണ്ടു വസ്ത്രമുള്ളവന് ഇല്ലാത്തവന്നു കൊടുക്കട്ടെ; ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങള് ഉള്ളവനും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

10. The crowds asked Yochanan, 'So then, what should we do?'

11. ചുങ്കക്കാരും സ്നാനം ഏല്പാന് വന്നുഗുരോ, ഞങ്ങള് എന്തുചെയ്യേണം എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

11. He answered, 'Whoever has two coats should share with somebody who has none, and whoever has food should do the same.'

12. നിങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതില് അധികം ഒന്നും പിരിക്കരുതു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Tax-collectors also came to be immersed; and they asked him, 'Rabbi, what should we do?'

13. പടജ്ജനവും അവനോടുഞങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുആരെയും ബലാല്ക്കാരം ചെയ്യാതെയും ചതിയായി ഒന്നും വാങ്ങാതെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ശമ്പളം മതി എന്നു വെപ്പിന് എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. Collect no more than the government assesses,' he told them.

14. ജനം കാത്തു നിന്നു; അവന് ക്രിസ്തുവോ എന്നു എല്ലാവരുംഹൃദയത്തില് യോഹന്നാനെക്കുറിച്ചു വിചാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

14. Some soldiers asked him, 'What about us? What should we do?' To them he said, 'Don't intimidate anyone, don't accuse people falsely, and be satisfied with your pay.'

15. യോഹന്നാന് എല്ലാവരോടും ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് എന്നിലും ബലവാനായവന് വരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പിന്റെ വാറു അഴിപ്പാന് ഞാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല; അവന് നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടും തീകൊണ്ടും സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കും.

15. The people were in a state of great expectancy, and everyone was wondering whether perhaps Yochanan himself might be the Messiah;

16. so Yochanan answered them all, 'I am immersing you in water, but he who is coming is more powerful than I- I'm not worthy to untie his sandals! He will immerse you in the [Ruach HaKodesh] and in fire.

17. മറ്റു പലതും അവന് പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു ജനത്തോടു സുവിശേഷം അറിയിച്ചു.

17. He has with him his winnowing fork to clear out his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the straw with unquenchable fire!'

18. എന്നാല് ഇടപ്രഭുവായ ഹെരോദാവു സഹോദരന്റെ ഭാര്യ ഹെരോദ്യനിമിത്തവും ഹെരോദാവു ചെയ്ത സകലദോഷങ്ങള് നിമിത്തവും യോഹന്നാന് അവനെ ആക്ഷേപിക്കയാല്

18. And with many other warnings besides these he announced the Good News to the people.

19. അതെല്ലാം ചെയ്തതു കൂടാതെ അവനെ തടവില് ആക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

19. But Yochanan also denounced Herod the regional governor for taking as his own wife Herodias, the wife of his brother, and for all the other wicked things Herod had done;

20. ജനം എല്ലാം സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുകയില് യേശുവും സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുമ്പോള് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു,

20. whereupon Herod added this to the rest: he locked up Yochanan in prison.

21. പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ദേഹരൂപത്തില് പ്രാവു എന്നപോലെ അവന്റെമേല് ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു. നീ എന്റെ പ്രിയ പുത്രന് ; നിന്നില് ഞാന് പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് നിന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദവും ഉണ്ടായി.

21. While all the people were being immersed, Yeshua too was immersed. As he was praying, heaven was opened;
