1. തീബെര്യ്യൊസ് കൈസരുടെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ പതിനഞ്ചാം ആണ്ടില് പൊന്തിയൊസ് പീലാത്തൊസ് യെഹൂദ്യനാടു വാഴുമ്പോള്, ഹെരോദാവു ഗലീലയിലും അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഫീലിപ്പൊസ് ഇരൂര്യ്യത്രഖോനിത്തിദേശങ്ങളിലും ലുസാന്യാസ് അബിലേനയിലും

1. Nowe, in the fifteenth yere of ye raigne of Tiberius Cesar, Pontius Pilate being lieftenaut of Iurie, and Herode being tetrarch of Galilee, & his brother Philip tetrarch of Iturea, and of the region of ye Trachonites, and Lysanias the tetrarch of Abiline,

2. ഇടപ്രഭൂക്കന്മാരായും ഹന്നാവും കയ്യഫാവും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരായും ഇരിക്കും കാലം സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹന്നാന്നു മരുഭൂമിയില്വെച്ചു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായി.

2. When Annas and Caiaphas were the hye priestes, the worde of the Lorde came vnto Iohn, the sonne of Zacharias, in the wyldernesse.

3. അവന് യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള നാട്ടില് ഒക്കെയും വന്നു പാപമോചനത്തിനായുള്ള മാനസാന്തരസ്നാനം പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.

3. And he came into all the coastes about Iordane, preachyng the baptisme of repentaunce, for the remission of sinnes:

4. “മരുഭൂമിയില് വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതുകര്ത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കുവിന് ; അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിന് .”
യെശയ്യാ 40:3-5

4. As it is writte in ye booke of the wordes of Esaias the prophete, saying: The voyce of a cryer in wyldernesse, prepare ye the way of ye Lorde, make his pathes strayght.

5. എല്ലാതാഴ്വരയും നികന്നുവരും; എല്ലാമലയും കുന്നും താഴും; വളഞ്ഞതു ചൊവ്വായും ദുര്ഘടമായതു നിരന്ന വഴിയായും തീരും; സകലജഡവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ കാണും” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതു പോലെ തന്നേ.

5. Euery valley shalbe fylled, and euery mountayne & hyll shalbe brought lowe: And thynges that be croked, shalbe made strayght, and the rough wayes shalbe made playne.

6. അവനാല് സ്നാനം ഏല്പാന് വന്ന പുരുഷാരത്തോടു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുസര്പ്പസന്തതികളേ, വരുവാനുള്ള കോപത്തെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞ് ഔടിപ്പോകുവാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു ആര്?

6. And all flesshe, shall see the saluation of God.

7. മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ ഫലം കായിപ്പിന് . അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടുണ്ടു; എന്നു ഉള്ളം കൊണ്ടു പറവാന് തുനിയരുതു; അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു ഈ കല്ലുകളില് നിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

7. Then saide he to the people that were come foorth to be baptized of hym: O generations of vipers, who hath forewarned you to flee from the wrath to come?

8. ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ല ഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയില് ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.

8. Bryng foorth therefore due fruites of repentaunce, and begyn not to say within your selues, we haue Abraham to our father: For I saye vnto you, that God is able of these stones, to rayse vp childre vnto Abraham.

9. എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു പുരുഷാരം അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. Nowe also is the axe layed vnto the roote of the trees: Euery tree therfore which bryngeth not foorth good fruite, is hewen downe, and cast into the fire.

10. അതിന്നു അവന് രണ്ടു വസ്ത്രമുള്ളവന് ഇല്ലാത്തവന്നു കൊടുക്കട്ടെ; ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങള് ഉള്ളവനും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And the people asked hym, saying: What shall we do then?

11. ചുങ്കക്കാരും സ്നാനം ഏല്പാന് വന്നുഗുരോ, ഞങ്ങള് എന്തുചെയ്യേണം എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

11. He aunswereth, and sayth vnto them: He that hath two coates, let him part with hym that hath none: and he that hath meate, let hym do lykewyse.

12. നിങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതില് അധികം ഒന്നും പിരിക്കരുതു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Then came publicanes also to be baptized, and saide vnto him: Maister, what shall we do?

13. പടജ്ജനവും അവനോടുഞങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുആരെയും ബലാല്ക്കാരം ചെയ്യാതെയും ചതിയായി ഒന്നും വാങ്ങാതെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ശമ്പളം മതി എന്നു വെപ്പിന് എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. And he sayde vnto them: Require no more then that which is appoynted vnto you.

14. ജനം കാത്തു നിന്നു; അവന് ക്രിസ്തുവോ എന്നു എല്ലാവരുംഹൃദയത്തില് യോഹന്നാനെക്കുറിച്ചു വിചാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

14. The souldiours lykewyse demaunded of hym, saying: And what shall we do? And he saide vnto them: Do violence to no man, neither accuse any falsely, and be content with your wages.

15. യോഹന്നാന് എല്ലാവരോടും ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് എന്നിലും ബലവാനായവന് വരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പിന്റെ വാറു അഴിപ്പാന് ഞാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല; അവന് നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടും തീകൊണ്ടും സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കും.

15. As the people wayted, & all men mused in their heartes of Iohn, whether he were very Christe:

16. അവന്നു വീശുമുറം കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടു; അവന് കളത്തെ മുറ്റും വെടിപ്പാക്കി കോതമ്പു കളപ്പുരയില് കൂട്ടിവെക്കയും പതിര് കെടാത്ത തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും ചെയ്യും.

16. Iohn aunswered, and said vnto them all, In deede I baptize you with water: but one stronger then I commeth, whose shoes latched I am not worthy to vnlose, he shall baptize you with the holy ghost, and with fire.

17. മറ്റു പലതും അവന് പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു ജനത്തോടു സുവിശേഷം അറിയിച്ചു.

17. Which hath his fanne in his hande, & wyll purge his floore, & wyll gather the wheate into his barne: but ye chaffe wyl burne vp, with fire that neuer shalbe quenched.

18. എന്നാല് ഇടപ്രഭുവായ ഹെരോദാവു സഹോദരന്റെ ഭാര്യ ഹെരോദ്യനിമിത്തവും ഹെരോദാവു ചെയ്ത സകലദോഷങ്ങള് നിമിത്തവും യോഹന്നാന് അവനെ ആക്ഷേപിക്കയാല്

18. And many other thinges, in his exhortation, preached he vnto the people.

19. അതെല്ലാം ചെയ്തതു കൂടാതെ അവനെ തടവില് ആക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

19. Then Herode the tetrarch, when he was rebuked of hym for Herodias, his brother Philippes wyfe, and for all the euyls which Herode dyd,

20. ജനം എല്ലാം സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുകയില് യേശുവും സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുമ്പോള് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു,

20. Added this aboue all, & shut vp Iohn in pryson.

21. പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ദേഹരൂപത്തില് പ്രാവു എന്നപോലെ അവന്റെമേല് ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു. നീ എന്റെ പ്രിയ പുത്രന് ; നിന്നില് ഞാന് പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് നിന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദവും ഉണ്ടായി.

21. Nowe it came to passe, as all the people were baptized, and when Iesus was baptized, and dyd praye, that the heauen was opened,

22. യേശുവിന്നു താന് പ്രവൃത്തി ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോള് ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. അവന് യോസേഫിന്റെ മകന് എന്നു ജനം വിചാരിച്ചു;

22. And the holy ghost came downe, in a bodyly shape lyke a Doue, vpon hym: and a voyce came from heauen, which sayde, Thou art my beloued sonne, in thee I am well pleased.

25. നഗ്ഗായി മയാത്തിന്റെ മകന് , മയാത്ത് മത്തഥ്യൊസിന്റെ മകന് , മത്തത്യൊസ് ശെമയിയുടെ മകന് , ശെമയി യോസേഫിന്റെ മകന് , യോസേഫ് യോദയുടെ മകന് ,

25. Whiche was ye sonne of Matthathias, whiche was the sonne of Amos, whiche was the sonne of Naum, whiche was the sonne of Hesly, which was the sonne of Nagge:

26. യോദാ യോഹന്നാന്റെ മകന് , യോഹന്നാന് രേസയുടെ മകന് , രേസ സൊരൊബാബേലിന്റെ മകന് , സൊരൊബാബേല് ശലഥീയേലിന്റെ മകന് , ശലഥീയേല് നേരിയുടെ മകന് ,
