1. പ്രിയമുള്ളവരേ, കള്ളപ്രവാചകന്മാര് പലരും ലോകത്തിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കയാല് ഏതു ആത്മാവിനെയും വിശ്വസിക്കാതെ ആത്മാക്കള് ദൈവത്തില്നിന്നുള്ളവയോ എന്നു ശോധന ചെയ്വിന് .

1. My dear friends, many false prophets are in the world now. So don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see if they are from God.

2. ദൈവാത്മാവിനെ ഇതിനാല് അറിയാം; യേശുക്രിസ്തു ജഡത്തില് വന്നു എന്നു സ്വീകരിക്കുന്ന ആത്മാവൊക്കെയും ദൈവത്തില്നിന്നുള്ളതു.

2. This is how you can recognize God's Spirit. One spirit says, 'I believe that Jesus is the Christ who came to earth and became a man.' That Spirit is from God.

3. യേശുവിനെ സ്വീകരിക്കാത്ത യാതൊരു ആത്മാവും ദൈവത്തില്നിന്നുള്ളതല്ല. അതു എതിര്ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ആത്മാവു തന്നേ; അതു വരും എന്നു നിങ്ങള് കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലോ; അതു ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ ലോകത്തില് ഉണ്ടു.

3. Another spirit refuses to say this about Jesus. That spirit is not from God. This is the spirit of the enemy of Christ. You have heard that the enemy of Christ is coming, and now he is already in the world.

4. കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളേ, നിങ്ങള് ദൈവത്തില്നിന്നുള്ളവര് ആകുന്നു; അവരെ ജയിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു. നിങ്ങളിലുള്ളവന് ലോകത്തില് ഉള്ളവനെക്കാള് വലിയവനല്ലോ.

4. My dear children, you belong to God, so you have already defeated these false prophets. That's because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

5. അവര് ലൌകികന്മാര് ആകയാല് ലൌകികമായതു സംസാരിക്കുന്നു; ലോകം അവരുടെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കുന്നു.

5. And they belong to the world, so what they say is from the world too. And the world listens to what they say.

6. ഞങ്ങള് ദൈവത്തില്നിന്നുള്ളവരാകുന്നു; ദൈവത്തെ അറിയുന്നവന് ഞങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കുന്നു. ദൈവത്തില്നിന്നല്ലാത്തവന് ഞങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കുന്നില്ല. സത്യത്തിന്റെ ആത്മാവു ഏതു എന്നും വഞ്ചനയുടെ ആത്മാവു ഏതു എന്നും നമുക്കു ഇതിനാല് അറിയാം.

6. But we are from God. So the people who know God listen to us. But the people who are not from God don't listen to us. That is how we know the Spirit that is true and the spirit that is false.

7. പ്രയമുള്ളവരേ, നാം അന്യോന്യം സ്നേഹിക്ക; സ്നേഹം ദൈവത്തില്നിന്നു വരുന്നു. സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവനെല്ലാം ദൈവത്തില്നിന്നു ജനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു, ദൈവത്തെ അറികയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.

7. Dear friends, we should love each other, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become God's child. And so everyone who loves knows God.

8. സ്നേഹിക്കാത്തവന് ദൈവത്തെ അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല; ദൈവം സ്നേഹം തന്നേ.

8. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

9. ദൈവം തന്റെ ഏകജാതനായ പുത്രനെ നാം അവനാല് ജീവിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ലോകത്തിലേക്കു അയച്ചു എന്നുള്ളതിനാല് ദൈവത്തിന്നു നമ്മോടുള്ള സ്നേഹം പ്രത്യക്ഷമായി.

9. This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his only Son into the world to give us life through him.

10. നാം ദൈവത്തെ സ്നേഹിച്ചതല്ല, അവന് നമ്മെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു തന്റെ പുത്രനെ നമ്മുടെ പാപങ്ങള്ക്കു പ്രായശ്ചിത്തം ആകുവാന് അയച്ചതു തന്നേ സാക്ഷാല് സ്നേഹം ആകുന്നു.

10. True love is God's love for us, not our love for God. He sent his Son as the way to take away our sins.

11. പ്രിയമുള്ളവരേ, ദൈവം നമ്മെ ഇങ്ങനെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു എങ്കില് നാമും അന്യോന്യം സ്നേഹിക്കേണ്ടതാകുന്നു.

11. That is how much God loved us, dear friends! So we also must love each other.

12. ദൈവത്തെ ആരും ഒരുനാളും കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല. നാം അന്യേന്യം സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നുവെങ്കില് ദൈവം നമ്മില് വസിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ സ്നേഹം നമ്മില് തികഞ്ഞുമിരിക്കുന്നു.

12. No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us. If we love each other, God's love has reached its goal�it is made perfect in us.

13. നാം അവനിലും അവന് നമ്മിലും വസിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അവന് തന്റെ ആത്മാവിനെ തന്നതിനാല് നാം അറിയുന്നു.

13. We know that we live in God and God lives in us. We know this because he gave us his Spirit.

14. പിതാവു പുത്രനെ ലോകരക്ഷിതാവായിട്ടു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഞങ്ങള് കണ്ടു സാക്ഷ്യം പറയുന്നു.

14. We have seen that the Father sent his Son to be the Savior of the world, and this is what we tell people now.

15. യേശു ദൈവപുത്രന് എന്നു സ്വീകരിക്കുന്നവനില് ദൈവവും അവന് ദൈവത്തിലും വസിക്കുന്നു.

15. If someone says, 'I believe that Jesus is the Son of God,' then God lives in them, and they live in God.

16. ഇങ്ങനെ ദൈവത്തിന്നു നമ്മോടുള്ള സ്നേഹത്തെ നാം അറിഞ്ഞും വിശ്വസിച്ചുമിരിക്കുന്നു. ദൈവം സ്നേഹം തന്നേ; സ്നേഹത്തില് വസിക്കുന്നവന് ദൈവത്തില് വസിക്കുന്നു; ദൈവം അവനിലും വസിക്കുന്നു.

16. So we know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love. God is love. Everyone who lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them.

17. ന്യായവിധിദിവസത്തില് നമുക്കു ധൈര്യം ഉണ്ടാവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ഇതിനാല് സ്നേഹം നമ്മോടു തികഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു. അവന് ഇരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ ഈ ലോകത്തില് നാമും ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

17. If God's love is made perfect in us, we can be without fear on the day when God judges the world. We will be without fear, because in this world we are like Jesus.

18. സ്നേഹത്തില് ഭയമില്ല; ഭയത്തിന്നു ദണ്ഡനം ഉള്ളതിനാല് തികഞ്ഞ സ്നേഹം ഭയത്തെ പുറത്താക്കിക്കളയുന്നു; ഭയപ്പെടുന്നവന് സ്നേഹത്തില് തികഞ്ഞവനല്ല.

18. Where God's love is, there is no fear, because God's perfect love takes away fear. It is his punishment that makes a person fear. So his love is not made perfect in the one who has fear.

19. അവന് ആദ്യം നമ്മെ സ്നേഹിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു നാം സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു.

19. We love because God first loved us.

20. ഞാന് ദൈവത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറകയും തന്റെ സഹോദരനെ പകെക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നവന് കള്ളനാകുന്നു. താന് കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ള സഹോദരനെ സ്നേഹിക്കാത്തവന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ദൈവത്തെ സ്നേഹിപ്പാന് കഴിയുന്നതല്ല.

20. If we say we love God but hate any of our brothers or sisters in his family, we are liars. If we don't love someone we have seen, how can we love God? We have never even seen him.

21. ദൈവത്തെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവന് സഹോദരനെയും സ്നേഹിക്കേണം എന്നീ കല്പന നമുക്കു അവങ്കല്നിന്നു ലഭിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.

21. God gave us this command: If we love God, we must also love each other as brothers and sisters.
