1. യാക്കോബ് തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോയി; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ ദൂതന്മാര് അവന്റെ എതിരെ വന്നു.

1. As for Iacob, he wente on his iourney, & the angels of God met him.

2. യാക്കോബ് അവരെ കണ്ടപ്പോള്ഇതു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സേന എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു മഹനയീം എന്നു പേര് ഇട്ടു.

2. And whan he sawe them, he sayde: It is Gods hoost, & called the same place Mahanaim.

3. അനന്തരം യാക്കോബ് എദോംനാടായ സേയീര്ദേശത്തു തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് തനിക്കു മുമ്പായി ദൂതന്മാരെ അയച്ചു.

3. Iacob sent messaungers before him to his brother Esau in to the lande of Seir, of the felde of Edom,

4. അവരോടു കല്പിച്ചതു എന്തെന്നാല്എന്റെ യജമാനനായ ഏശാവിനോടു ഇങ്ങനെ പറവിന് നിന്റെ അടിയാന് യാക്കോബ് ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നുഞാന് ലാബാന്റെ അടുക്കല് പരദേശിയായി പാര്ത്തു ഇന്നുവരെ അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു.

4. & commaunded the, & sayde: Saye thus vnto my lorde Esau: Thy seruaunt Iacob sendeth ye this worde: I haue bene out wt Laban, & haue bene hither to amonge straungers,

5. എനിക്കു കാളയും കഴുതയും ആടും ദാസീദാസന്മാരും ഉണ്ടു; നിനക്കു എന്നൊടു കൃപ തോന്നേണ്ടതിന്നാകുന്നു യജമാനനെ അറിയിപ്പാന് ആളയക്കുന്നതു.

5. & haue oxen & Asses, shepe, seruauntes & maydes, & haue sent forth to shewe it the my lorde, yt I might fynde fauoure in thy sight.

6. ദൂതന്മാര് യാക്കോബിന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങി വന്നുഞങ്ങള് നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി വന്നു; അവന് നാനൂറു ആളുമായി നിന്നെ എതിരേല്പാന് വരുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. The messaungers came agayne vnto Iacob, and sayde: We came vnto thy brother Esau, & he commeth forth also agaynst the with foure hundreth men.

7. അപ്പോള് യാക്കോബ് ഏറ്റവും ഭ്രമിച്ചു ഭയവശനായി, തന്നോടു കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ജനത്തെയും ആടുകളെയും കന്നുകാലികളെയും ഒട്ടകങ്ങളെയും രണ്ടു കൂട്ടമായി വിഭാഗിച്ചു.

7. Then was Iacob sore afrayed, and wyst not what waye to turne himself, & deuyded the people that was with him, and the shepe, and the oxen, & the Camels in to two droues,

8. ഏശാവ് ഒരു കൂട്ടത്തിന്റെ നേരെ വന്നു അതിനെ നശിപ്പിച്ചാല് മറ്റേ കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു ഔടിപ്പോകാമല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

8. & sayde: Yf Esau come vpon the one droue, and smyte it, the other shal escape.

9. പിന്നെ യാക്കോബ് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചതുഎന്റെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ ദൈവവും എന്റെ പിതാവായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ദൈവവുമായുള്ളോവേ, നിന്റെ ദേശത്തേക്കും നിന്റെ ചാര്ച്ചക്കാരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കും മടങ്ങിപ്പോക; ഞാന് നിനക്കു നന്മ ചെയ്യുമെന്നു എന്നൊടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത യഹോവേ,

9. Iacob sayde morouer: O God of my father Abraha, God of my father Isaac, LORDE thou that saydest vnto me: Departe agayne to thine owne londe and to thy kynred, and I wyl do the good:

10. അടിയനോടു കാണിച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന സകലദയെക്കും സകലവിശ്വസ്തതെക്കും ഞാന് അപാത്രമത്രേ; ഒരു വടിയോടുകൂടെ മാത്രമല്ലോ ഞാന് ഈ യോര്ദ്ദാന് കടന്നതു; ഇപ്പോഴോ ഞാന് രണ്ടു കൂട്ടമായി തീര്ന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.

10. I am to litle for all the mercies and all the trueth that thou hast shewed vnto thy seruaunt (for I had no more but this staff whan I wente ouer this Iordan, and now am I become two droues)

11. എന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു എന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കേണമേ; പക്ഷേ അവന് വന്നു എന്നെയും മക്കളോടുകൂടെ തള്ളയെയും നശിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു ഞാന് ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു.

11. delyuer me from ye hande of my brother, fro the hade of Esau, for I am afrayed of him, lest he come and smyte me the mother with the children.

12. നീയോഞാന് നിന്നോടു നന്മ ചെയ്യും; നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ പെരുപ്പംകൊണ്ടു എണ്ണിക്കൂടാത്ത കടല്കരയിലെ മണല്പോലെ ആക്കുമെന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ.

12. Thou saydest: I wyll do the good, and wyll make thy sede as the sonde of ye see, which can not be nombred for multitude.

13. അന്നു രാത്രി അവന് അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു; തന്റെ പക്കല് ഉള്ളതില് തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവിന്നു സമ്മാനമായിട്ടു

13. And there he taried that night, and toke of soch as came to hande, a present vnto his brother Esau,

14. ഇരുനൂറു കോലാടിനെയും ഇരുപതു കോലാട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും ഇരുനൂറു ചെമ്മരിയാടിനെയും ഇരുപതു ചെമ്മരിയാട്ടുകൊറ്റനെയും

14. two hudreth she goates, twentye he goates, two hundreth shepe, twentye rammes

15. കറവുള്ള മുപ്പതു ഒട്ടകത്തെയും അവയുടെ കുട്ടികളെയും നാല്പതു പശുവിനെയും പത്തു കാളയെയും ഇരുപതു പെണ്കഴുതയെയും പത്തു കഴുതകൂട്ടിയെയും വേര്തിരിച്ചു.

15. and thirtie mylck camels wt their foales, fourtye kyne, ten bullockes, twentye she Asses with ten foales,

16. തന്റെ ദാസന്മാരുടെ പക്കല് ഔരോ കൂട്ടത്തെപ്രത്യേകം പ്രത്യേകമായി ഏല്പിച്ചു, തന്റെ ദാസന്മാരോടുനിങ്ങള് എനിക്കു മുമ്പായി കടന്നുപോയി അതതു കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു മദ്ധ്യേ ഇടയിടുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. and put them in the handes of his seruauntes, euery flock by them selues, & sayde vnto them: Go ye forth before me, & put a space betwixte one flocke after the other,

17. ഒന്നാമതു പോകുന്നവനോടു അവന് എന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഏശാവ് നിന്നെ കണ്ടുനീ ആരുടെ ആള്? എവിടെ പോകുന്നു? നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് പോകുന്ന ഇവ ആരുടെ വക എന്നിങ്ങനെ നിന്നോടു ചോദിച്ചാല്

17. and commaunded the first and sayde: When my brother Esau meteth the, and axeth the: Whose art thou? & whyther goest thou? and whose are these that thou dryuest before the?

18. നിന്റെ അടിയാന് യാക്കോബിന്റെ വക ആകുന്നു; ഇതു യജമാനനായ ഏശാവിന്നു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന സമ്മാനം; അതാ, അവനും പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നു എന്നു നീ പറയേണം എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

18. Thou shalt saye: They be thy seruaunt Iacobs, which sendeth a present vnto his lorde Esau, and commeth behynde vs him self.

19. രണ്ടാമത്തവനോടും മൂന്നാമത്തവനോടും കൂട്ടങ്ങളെ നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടു പോകുന്ന എല്ലാവരോടുംനിങ്ങള് ഏശാവിനെ കാണുമ്പോള് ഇപ്രകാരം അവനോടുപറവിന് ;

19. Thus commaunded he the seconde also, and the thirde, and all them that folowed the flockes, and sayde: Like as I haue tolde you, so speake ye vnto Esau, whan ye mete him,

20. അതാ, നിന്റെ അടിയാന് യാക്കോബ് പിന്നാലെ വരുന്നു എന്നും പറവിന് എന്നു അവന് കല്പിച്ചു. എനിക്കു മുമ്പായിപോകുന്ന സമ്മാനംകൊണ്ടു അവനെ ശാന്തമാക്കീട്ടു പിന്നെ ഞാന് അവന്റെ മുഖം കണ്ടുകൊള്ളാം; പക്ഷേ അവന്നു എന്നോടു ദയ തോന്നുമായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. and saye vnto him also: Beholde, yi seruaut Iacob is behynde vs. For he thought: I wyll reconcyle him with the present that goeth before me, after warde wyll I se him my self, peraduenture he shall receaue me to grace.

21. അങ്ങനെ സമ്മാനം അവന്റെ മുമ്പായി പോയി; അവനോ അന്നു രാത്രി കൂട്ടത്തോടുകൂടെ പാര്ത്തു.

21. So the present wente before him, but he taried in the tente the same night,

22. രാത്രിയില് അവന് എഴുന്നേറ്റു. തന്റെ രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാരെയും രണ്ടു ദാസിമാരെയും പതിനൊന്നു പുത്രന്മാരയും കൂട്ടി യാബ്ബോക് കടവു കടന്നു.

22. and rose vp in ye night, and toke his two wyues and the two maydens and his eleuen sonnes, and wente vnto the foorde of Iacob,

23. അങ്ങനെ അവന് അവരെ കൂട്ടി ആറ്റിന്നക്കരെ കടത്തി; തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും അക്കരെ കടത്തിയശേഷം യാക്കോബ് തനിയേ ശേഷിച്ചു;

23. toke them and caried them ouer the water, so that all that he had came ouer,

24. അപ്പോള് ഒരു പുരുഷന് ഉഷസ്സാകുവോളം അവനോടു മല്ലു പിടിച്ചു.

24. and taried him self alone on this syde. Then wrestled there a man with him vntyll the breake of ye daye.

25. അവനെ ജയിക്കയില്ല എന്നു കണ്ടപ്പോള് അവന് അവന്റെ തുടയുടെ തടം തൊട്ടു; ആകയാല് അവനോടു മല്ലുപിടിക്കയില് യാക്കോബിന്റെ തുടയുടെ തടം ഉളുക്കിപ്പോയി.

25. And whan he sawe yt he might not ouercome him, he touched the senowe of his thye, and ye senowe of his thye shrancke in wrestlinge with him.

26. എന്നെ വിടുക; ഉഷസ്സു ഉദിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുനീ എന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചല്ലാതെ ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

26. And he sayde: Let me go, for ye daye breaketh on. But he answered: I will not let ye go, excepte thou blesse me.

27. നിന്റെ പേര് എന്തു എന്നു അവന് അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുയാക്കോബ് എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

27. He sayde: What is thy name? He answered: Iacob.

28. നീ ദൈവത്തോടും മനുഷ്യരോടും മല്ലുപിടിച്ചു ജയിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ പേര് ഇനി യാക്കോബ് എന്നല്ല യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു വിളിക്കപ്പെടും എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

28. He sayde: Thou shalt nomore be called Iacob, but Israel, for thou hast stryuen with God and with men, and hast preuayled.

29. യാക്കോബ് അവനോടുനിന്റെ പേര് എനിക്കു പറഞ്ഞുതരേണം എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചുനീ എന്റെ പേര് ചോദിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു, അവിടെവെച്ചു അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

29. And Iacob axed him, & sayde: Tell me, what is yi name? But he sayde: Why axest thou what my name is? And he blessed him there.

30. ഞാന് ദൈവത്തെ മുഖാമുഖമായി കണ്ടിട്ടും എനിക്കു ജീവഹാനി വിന്നില്ല എന്നു യാക്കോബ് പറഞ്ഞു, ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു പെനീയേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

30. And Iacob called the place Peniel, for I haue sene God face to face, & my soule is recouered.

31. അവന് പെനീയേല് കടന്നു പോകുമ്പോള് സൂര്യന് ഉദിച്ചു; എന്നാല് തുടയുടെ ഉളുകൂനിമിത്തം അവന് മുടന്തിനടന്നു.

31. And as he came ouer fro Peniel, ye Sonne rose vpo him, & he halted vpon his thye.

32. അവന് യാക്കോബിന്റെ തുടയുടെ തടത്തിലെ ഞരമ്പു തൊടുകകൊണ്ടു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള് ഇന്നുവരെയും തുടയുടെ തടത്തിലെ ഞരമ്പു തിന്നാറില്ല.

32. Therfore eate the children of Israel no vane vpon the senow of ye thye vnto this daye, because ye vane vpon the senow of Iacobs thye was touched.
