1. അനന്തരം യാക്കോബ് തലപൊക്കി നോക്കി, ഏശാവും അവനോടുകൂടെ നാനൂറു ആളും വരുന്നതു കണ്ടു; തന്റെ മക്കളെ ലേയയുടെ അടുക്കലും റാഹേലിന്റെ അടുക്കലും രണ്ടു ദാസിമാരുടെ അടുക്കലും വിഭാഗിച്ചു നിര്ത്തി.

1. And Jacob lifted up his eyes and beheld, and lo, Esau his brother [was] coming, and four hundred men with him. And Jacob divided the children to Leah and to Rachel, and the two maidservants.

2. അവന് ദാസിമാരെയും അവരുടെ മക്കളെയും മുമ്പായും ലേയെയും അവളുടെ മക്കളെയും പിന്നാലെയും റാഹേലിനെയും യോസേഫിനെയും ഒടുക്കമായും നിര്ത്തി.

2. And he put the two maidservants and their children with the first, and Leah and her children behind, and Rachel and Joseph last.

3. അവന് അവര്ക്കും മുമ്പായി കടന്നു ഏഴു പ്രാവശ്യം സാഷ്ടാംഗം നമസ്കരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു തന്റെ സഹോദരനോടു അടുത്തുചെന്നു.

3. But he advanced himself before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he drew near to his brother.

4. ഏശാവ് ഔടിവന്നു അവനെ എതിരേറ്റു, ആലിംഗനം ചെയ്തു; അവന്റെ കഴുത്തില് വീണു അവനെ ചുംബിച്ചു, രണ്ടുപേരും കരഞ്ഞു.

4. And Esau ran on to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him; and they both wept.

5. പിന്നെ അവന് തലപൊക്കി സ്ത്രീകളെയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെയും കണ്ടുനിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള ഇവര് ആര് എന്നു ചോദിച്ചുതിന്നുദൈവം അടിയന്നു നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന മക്കള് എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And Esau looked up and saw the women and the children, and said, What are these to you? And he said, The children with which God has mercifully blessed your servant.

6. അപ്പോള് ദാസിമാരും മക്കളും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു;

6. And the maidservants and their children drew near and bowed down.

7. ലേയയും മക്കളും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു; ഒടുവില് യോസേഫും റാഹേലും അടുത്തുവന്നു നമസ്കരിച്ചു.

7. And Leah and her children drew near and bowed down; and after Rachel and Joseph drew near, and bowed down.

8. ഞാന് വഴിക്കു കണ്ട ആ കൂട്ടമൊക്കെയും എന്തിന്നു എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുയജമാനന്നു എന്നോടു കൃപതോന്നേണ്ടതിന്നു ആകുന്നു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

8. And he said, What are these things to you, all these companies that I have met? And he said, That your servant might find grace in your sight, my lord.

9. അതിന്നു ഏശാവ്സഹോദരാ, എനിക്കു വേണ്ടുന്നതു ഉണ്ടു; നിനക്കുള്ളതു നിനക്കു ഇരിക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And Esau said, I have much, my brother; keep your own.

10. അതിന്നു യാക്കോബ്അങ്ങനെയല്ല, എന്നോടു കൃപ ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് എന്റെ സമ്മാനം എന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വാങ്ങേണമേ; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ മുഖം കാണുന്നതുപോലെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ മുഖം കാണുകയും നിനക്കു എന്നോടു ദയ തോന്നുകയും ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ;

10. And Jacob said, If I have found grace in your sight, receive the gifts through my hands; therefore have I seen your face, as if anyone should see the face of God, and you shall be well-pleased with me.

11. ഞാന് അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന കാഴ്ച വാങ്ങേണമേ; ദൈവം എന്നോടു കൃപ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു; എനിക്കു വേണ്ടുവോളം ഉണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ അവന് അതു വാങ്ങി.

11. Receive my blessings, which I have brought you, because God has had mercy on me, and I have all things; and he urged him, and he took [them].

12. പിന്നെ അവന് നാം പ്രയാണംചെയ്തു പോക; ഞാന് നിനക്കു മുമ്പായി നടക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. And he said, Let us depart, and proceed onward.

13. അതിന്നു അവന് അവനോടുകുട്ടികള് നന്നാ ഇളയവര് എന്നും കുറവുള്ള ആടുകളും കന്നുകാലികളും കൂടെ ഉണ്ടെന്നും യജമാനന് അറിയുന്നുവല്ലോ; അവയെ ഒരു ദിവസം അധികമായി ഔടിച്ചാല് കൂട്ടമെല്ലാം ചത്തുപോകും.

13. And he said to him, My lord knows, that the children are very tender, and the flocks and the herds with me are with young; if then I shall drive them hard one day, all the cattle will die.

14. യജമാനന് അടിയന്നു മുമ്പായി പോയാലും; എന്റെ കൂടെയുള്ള കന്നുകാലികളുടെയും കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളുടെയും പ്രാപ്തിക്കു ഒത്തവണ്ണം ഞാന് സാവധാനത്തില് അവയെ നടത്തിക്കൊണ്ടു സേയീരില് യജമാനന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നുകൊള്ളാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

14. Let my lord go on before his servant, and I shall have strength on the road according to the ease of the journey before me, and according to the strength of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.

15. എന്റെ ആളുകളില് ചിലരെ ഞാന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് നിര്ത്തട്ടെ എന്നു ഏശാവു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നുഎന്തിന്നു? യജമാനന്റെ കൃപയുണ്ടായാല് മതി എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And Esau said, I will leave with you some of the people who are with me. And he said, Why so? It is enough that I have found favor before you, my lord.

16. അങ്ങനെ ഏശാവ് അന്നു തന്റെ വഴിക്കു സേയീരിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

16. And Esau returned on that day on his journey to Seir.

17. യാക്കോബോ സുക്കോത്തിന്നു യാത്രപുറപ്പെട്ടു; തനിക്കു ഒരു വീടു പണിതു; കന്നുകാലിക്കൂട്ടത്തിന്നു തൊഴുത്തുകളും കെട്ടി; അതു കൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു സുക്കോത്ത് എന്നു പേര് പറയുന്നു.

17. And Jacob departed to his tents; and he made for himself a house there, and for his cattle he made booths; therefore he called the name of that place, Succoth.

18. യാക്കോബ് പദ്ദന് -അരാമില്നിന്നു വന്നശേഷം കനാന് ദേശത്തിലെ ശേഖേംപട്ടണത്തില് സമാധാനത്തോടെ എത്തി പട്ടണത്തിന്നരികെ പാളയമടിച്ചു.

18. And Jacob came to Salem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he departed out of Mesopotamia of Syria, and took up a position in front of the city.

19. താന് കൂടാരമടിച്ച നിലം ശെഖേമിന്റെ അപ്പനായ ഹമോരിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാരോടു നൂറു വെള്ളിക്കാശിന്നു വാങ്ങി.

19. And he bought the portion of the field, where he pitched his tent, of Hamor the father of Shechem, for a hundred lambs.

20. അവിടെ അവന് ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു, അതിന്നു ഏല്-എലോഹേ-യിസ്രായേല് എന്നു പേര് ഇട്ടു.

20. And he set up an altar there, and called on the God of Israel.
