1. യഹോവ ഏലീയാവെ ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റില് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കു എടുത്തുകൊള്വാന് ഭാവിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഏലീയാവു എലീശയോടു കൂടെ ഗില്ഗാലില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

1. And it happened when Jehovah was to take Elijah up into Heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2. ഏലീയാവു എലീശയോടുനീ ഇവിടെ താമസിച്ചു കൊള്കയഹോവ എന്നെ ബേഥേലിലേക്കു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എലീശാ അവനോടുയഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ബേഥേലിലേക്കു പോയി.

2. And Elijah said to Elisha, Please stay here, for Jehovah has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said, As Jehovah lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel.

3. ബേഥേലിലെ പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാര് എലീശയുടെ അടുക്കല് പുറത്തുവന്നു അവനോടുയഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്റെ യജമാനനെ നിന്റെ തലെക്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളും എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവന് അതേ, ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് മിണ്ടാതിരിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

3. And the sons of the prophets at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said to him, Do you know that Jehovah will take away your master from your head today? And he said, Yes, I know. Keep silent.

4. ഏലീയാവു അവനോടുഎലീശയേ, നീ ഇവിടെ താമസിച്ചുകൊള്ക; യഹോവ എന്നെ യെരീഹോവിലേക്കു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു അവന് യഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് യെരീഹോവിലേക്കു പോയി.

4. And Elijah said to him, Elisha, please stay here. For Jehovah has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As Jehovah lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they came to Jericho.

5. യെരീഹോവിലെ പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാര് എലീശയുടെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു അവനോടുയഹോവ ഇന്നു നിന്റെ യജമാനനെ നിന്റെ തലെക്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളും എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നുവോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു; അതിന്നു അവന് അതേ, ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; നിങ്ങള് മിണ്ടാതിരിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. And the sons of the prophets at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, Do you know that Jehovah will take your master away from your head today? And he answered, Yes, I know. Keep silent.

6. ഏലീയാവു അവനോടുനീ ഇവിടെ താമസിച്ചുകൊള്ക; യഹോവ എന്നെ യോര്ദ്ദാങ്കലേക്കു അയച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; അതിന്നു അവന് യഹോവയാണ, നിന്റെ ജീവനാണ, ഞാന് നിന്നെ വിടുകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ഇരുവരുംകൂടെ പോയി.

6. And Elijah said to him, Please stay here, for Jehovah has sent me to Jordan. And he said, As Jehovah lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And the two of them went on.

7. പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാരില് അമ്പതുപേര് ചെന്നു അവര്ക്കെതിരെ ദൂരത്തു നിന്നു; അവര് ഇരുവരും യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെ നിന്നു.

7. And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went on and stood afar off across from them. And both of them stood by the Jordan.

8. അപ്പോള് ഏലീയാവു തന്റെ പുതപ്പു എടുത്തു മടക്കി വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചു; അതു അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും പിരിഞ്ഞു; അങ്ങനെ അവര് ഇരുവരും ഉണങ്ങിയ നിലത്തുകൂടി അക്കരെക്കു കടന്നു.

8. And Elijah took his mantle and rolled it up, and struck the waters. And they were divided here and there, so that both of them crossed over on dry ground.

9. അവര് അക്കരെ കടന്നശേഷം ഏലീയാവു എലീശയോടുഞാന് നിങ്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളപ്പെടുംമുമ്പെ ഞാന് നിനക്കു എന്തു ചെയ്തു തരേണം? ചോദിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു എലീശാനിന്റെ ആത്മാവില് ഇരട്ടി പങ്കു എന്റെമേല് വരുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And it happened when they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha. Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken away from you. And Elisha said, please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.

10. അതിന്നു അവന് നീ പ്രയാസമുള്ള കാര്യമാകുന്നു ചോദിച്ചതു; ഞാന് നിങ്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊള്ളപ്പെടുമ്പോള് നീ എന്നെ കാണുന്നുവെങ്കില് നിനക്കു അങ്ങനെ ഉണ്ടാകും; അല്ലെന്നുവരികില് ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And he said, You have asked a hard thing, but if you see me taken from you, it shall be so to you; but if not, it shall not be.

11. അവര് സംസാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നടക്കുമ്പോള് അഗ്നിരഥവും അഗ്ന്യശ്വങ്ങളും വന്നു അവരെ തമ്മില് വേര്പിരിച്ചു; അങ്ങനെ ഏലീയാവു ചുഴലിക്കാറ്റില് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തിലേക്കു കയറി.

11. And it happened as they went on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire came, and they separated between them both. And Elijah went up in a tempest into Heaven.

12. എലീശാ അതു കണ്ടിട്ടുഎന്റെ പിതാവേ, എന്റെ പിതാവേ, യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ തേരും തേരാളികളും എന്നു നിലവിളിച്ചു, പിന്നെ അവനെ കണ്ടില്ല; അപ്പോള് അവന് തന്റെ വസ്ത്രം പിടിച്ചു രണ്ടു ഖണ്ഡമായി കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

12. And Elisha saw, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen! And he saw him no more. And he took hold of his clothes and tore them in two pieces.

13. പിന്നെ അവന് ഏലീയാവിന്മേല്നിന്നു വീണ പുതപ്പു എടുത്തു മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെ നിന്നു.

13. He also took up the mantle of Elijah which had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of Jordan.

14. ഏലീയാവിന്മേല്നിന്നു വീണ പുതപ്പുകൊണ്ടു അവന് വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചുഏലീയാവിന്റെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവ എവിടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് വെള്ളത്തെ അടിച്ചപ്പോള് അതു അങ്ങോട്ടും ഇങ്ങോട്ടും പിരിഞ്ഞു. എലീശാ ഇക്കരെക്കു കടന്നു.

14. And he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the waters, and said, Where is Jehovah, the God of Elijah, even He? And he also hit the waters, and they parted here and there. And Elisha went over.

15. യെരീഹോവില് അവന്നെതിരെ നിന്നിരുന്നു പ്രവാചകശിഷ്യന്മാര് അവനെ കണ്ടിട്ടുഏലീയാവിന്റെ ആത്മാവു എലീശയുടെ മേല് അധിവസിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവനെ എതിരേറ്റുചെന്നു അവന്റെ മുമ്പില് സാഷ്ടാംഗം വീണു.

15. And when the sons of the prophets across in Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah rests upon Elisha! And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him.

16. അവര് അവനോടുഇതാ, അടിയങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ അമ്പതു ബലശാലികള് ഉണ്ടു; അവര് ചെന്നു നിന്റെ യജമാനനെ അന്വേഷിക്കട്ടെ; പക്ഷേ യഹോവയുടെ ആത്മാവു അവനെ എടുത്തു വല്ല മലയിലോ താഴ്വരയിലോ എങ്ങാനും ഇട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അതിന്നു അവന് നിങ്ങള് അയക്കരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And they said to him, Behold now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master, lest the Spirit of Jehovah has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, You shall not send.

17. അവര് അവനെ അത്യന്തം നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് എന്നാല് അയച്ചുകൊള്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് അമ്പതുപേരെ അയച്ചു; അവര് മൂന്നുദിവസം അന്വേഷിച്ചിട്ടും അവനെ കണ്ടെത്തിയില്ല.

17. And they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, Send. And they sent fifty men. And they looked for three days, but did not find him.

18. അവന് യെരീഹോവില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിവന്നു; അവന് അവരോടുപോകരുതു എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറഞ്ഞില്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

18. And they returned to him, And he was staying in Jericho. And he said to them, Did I not say to you, Do not go?

19. അനന്തരം ആ പട്ടണക്കാര് എലീശയോടുഈ പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ ഇരിപ്പു മനോഹരമായതെന്നു യജമാനന് കാണുന്നുവല്ലോ; എന്നാല് വെള്ളം ചീത്തയും ദേശം ഗര്ഭനാശകവും ആകുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. And the men of the city said to Elisha, Behold, please, the location of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees. But the waters are bad, and the ground is barren.

20. അതിന്നു അവന് ഒരു പുതിയ തളിക കൊണ്ടുവന്നു അതില് ഉപ്പു ഇടുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവര് അതു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.

20. And he said, Bring me a new jar and put salt in it. And they brought to him.

21. അവന് നീരുറവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു അതില് ഉപ്പു ഇട്ടു. ഞാന് ഈ വെള്ളം പഥ്യമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഇനി ഇതിനാല് മരണവും ഗര്ഭനാശവും ഉണ്ടാകയില്ല എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. And he went forth to the spring of the waters and threw the salt in there, and said, So says Jehovah, I have healed these waters. There shall not be any more death or barrenness from there.

22. എലീശാ പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ ആ വെള്ളം ഇന്നുവരെ പഥ്യമായിത്തന്നേ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.

22. And the waters were healed to this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke.

23. പിന്നെ അവന് അവിടെനിന്നു ബേഥേലിലേക്കു പോയി; അവന് വഴിയില് നടക്കുമ്പോള് ബാലന്മാര് പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു വന്നു അവനെ പരിഹസിച്ചു അവനോടുമൊട്ടത്തലയാ, കയറി വാ; മൊട്ടത്തലയാ, കയറി വാ; എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. And he went up from there to Bethel. And he was going up in the highway. And little boys came out from the city and mocked him, and said to him, Go up, bald head! Go up, bald head!

24. അവന് പിന്നോക്കം തിരിഞ്ഞു അവനെ നോക്കി യഹോവനാമത്തില് അവരെ ശപിച്ചു; അപ്പോള് കാട്ടില്നിന്നു രണ്ടു പെണ്കരടി ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു അവരില് നാല്പത്തിരണ്ടു ബാലന്മാരെ കീറിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

24. And he turned behind him and saw them, and declared them vile in the name of Jehovah. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two boys of them.

25. അവന് അവിടംവിട്ടു കര്മ്മേല്പര്വ്വതത്തിലേക്കു പോയി; അവിടെനിന്നു ശമര്യ്യയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

25. And he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
