1. പിന്നെയും ഒരു ദിവസം ദൈവപുത്രന്മാര് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നില്പാന് ചെന്നു; സാത്താനും അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നില്പാന് ചെന്നു.

1. Again there was a day when the sons of God came to show themselves before the Lord. And Satan came with them also to show himself before the Lord.

2. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുനീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു സാത്താന് യഹോവയോടുഞാന് ഭൂമിയില് ഊടാടി സഞ്ചരിച്ചിട്ടു വരുന്നു എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

2. The Lord said to Satan, 'Where have you come from?' Satan answered the Lord and said, 'From traveling around the earth and walking around on it.'

3. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുഎന്റെ ദാസനായ ഇയ്യോബിന്റെമേല് നീ ദൃഷ്ടിവെച്ചുവോ? അവനെപ്പോലെ നിഷ്കളങ്കനും നേരുള്ളവനും ദൈവഭക്തനും ദോഷം വിട്ടകലുന്നവനും ഭൂമിയില് ആരും ഇല്ലല്ലോ; അവന് തന്റെ ഭക്തിമുറുകെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; വെറുതെ അവനെ നശിപ്പിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ എന്നെ സമ്മതിപ്പിച്ചു എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

3. The Lord said to Satan, 'Have you thought about My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth. He is without blame, a man who is right and good. He fears God and turns away from sin. He still holds to his good ways, even when I allowed you to go against him, and to destroy him for no reason.'

4. സാത്താന് യഹോവയോടുത്വക്കിന്നു പകരം ത്വക്; മനുഷ്യന് തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും തന്റെ ജീവന്നു പകരം കൊടുത്തുകളയും.

4. Satan answered the Lord and said, 'Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life.

5. നിന്റെ കൈ നീട്ടി അവന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും ഒന്നു തൊടുക; അവന് നിന്നെ മുഖത്തു നോക്കി ത്യജിച്ചുപറയും എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Put out Your hand now and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse You to Your face.'

6. യഹോവ സാത്താനോടുഇതാ, അവന് നിന്റെ കയ്യില് ഇരിക്കുന്നു; അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെമാത്രം തൊടരുതു എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

6. So the Lord said to Satan, 'See, he is in your power. Only do not kill him.'

7. അങ്ങനെ സാത്താന് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധി വിട്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഇയ്യോബിനെ ഉള്ളങ്കാല്മുതല് നെറുകവരെ വല്ലാത്ത പരുക്കളാല് ബാധിച്ചു.

7. Then Satan went out from the Lord. And he made very bad sores come on Job from the bottom of his foot to the top of his head.

8. അവന് ഒരു ഔട്ടിന് കഷണം എടുത്തു തന്നെത്താന് ചുരണ്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു ചാരത്തില് ഇരുന്നു.

8. Job took a piece of a broken pot to try to cut off the sores while he sat among the ashes.

9. അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ അവനോടുനീ ഇനിയും നിന്റെ ഭക്തി മുറുകെ പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നുവോ? ദൈവത്തെ ത്യജിച്ചുപറഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചുകളക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Then his wife said to him, 'Do you still hold on to your faith? Curse God and die!'

10. അവന് അവളോടുഒരു പൊട്ടി സംസാരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ നീ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു; നാം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു നന്മ കൈക്കൊള്ളുന്നു; തിന്മയും കൈക്കൊള്ളരുതോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഇതില് ഒന്നിലും ഇയ്യോബ് അധരങ്ങളാല് പാപം ചെയ്തില്ല.

10. But he said to her, 'You speak as one of the foolish women would speak. Should we receive good from God and not receive trouble?' In all this Job did not sin with his lips.

11. അനന്തരം തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫസ്, ശൂഹ്യനായ ബില്ദാദ്, നയമാത്യനായ സോഫര് എന്നിങ്ങിനെ ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ മൂന്നു സ്നേഹിതന്മാര് ഈ അനര്ത്ഥമൊക്കെയും അവന്നു ഭവിച്ചതു കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവര് ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു അവനോടു സഹതപിപ്പാനും അവനെ ആശ്വസിപ്പിപ്പാനും പോകേണമെന്നു തമ്മില് പറഞ്ഞൊത്തു.

11. Now when Job's three friends heard of all this trouble that had come upon him, they came each from his own place. They were Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They agreed to meet together to come to share Job's sorrow and comfort him.

12. അവര് അകലെവെച്ചു നോക്കിയാറെ അവനെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞില്ല; അവര് ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞു വസ്ത്രം കീറി പൊടി വാരി മേലോട്ടു തലയില് വിതറി.

12. And when they looked up from far away and saw how different he looked, they cried in loud voices. They tore their clothing and threw dust over their heads toward the sky.

13. അവന്റെ വ്യസനം അതികഠിനമെന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവര് ആരും ഒരു വാക്കും മിണ്ടാതെ ഏഴു രാപ്പകല് അവനോടുകൂടെ നിലത്തിരുന്നു.

13. Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights. No one said a word to him, for they saw that his suffering was very bad.
