1. വീഞ്ഞു പരിഹാസിയും മദ്യം കലഹക്കാരനും ആകുന്നു; അതിനാല് ചാഞ്ചാടി നടക്കുന്ന ആരും ജ്ഞാനിയാകയില്ല.

1. Wine {is} a mocker, strong drink {is} raging: and whoever is deceived by it is not wise.

2. രാജാവിന്റെ ഭീഷണം സിംഹഗര്ജ്ജനം പോലെ; അവനെ കോപിപ്പിക്കുന്നവന് തന്റെ പ്രാണനോടു ദ്രോഹം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

2. The fear of a king {is} as the roaring of a lion: {whoever} provoketh him to anger sinneth {against} his own soul.

3. വ്യവഹാരം ഒഴിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതു പുരുഷന്നു മാനം; എന്നാല് ഏതു ഭോഷനും ശണ്ഠകൂടും.

3. {It is} an honor for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.

4. മടിയന് ശീതംനിമിത്തം ഉഴാതിരിക്കുന്നു; കൊയ്ത്തുകാലത്തു അവന് ഇരക്കും; ഒന്നും കിട്ടുകയുമില്ല.

4. The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; {therefore} shall he beg in harvest, and {have} nothing.

5. മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിലെ ആലോചന ആഴമുള്ള വെള്ളം; വിവേകമുള്ള പുരുഷനോ അതു കോരി എടുക്കും.

5. Counsel in the heart of man {is like} deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

6. മിക്ക മനുഷ്യരും തങ്ങളോടു ദയാലുവായ ഒരുത്തനെ കാണും; എന്നാല് വിശ്വസ്തനായ ഒരുത്തനെ ആര് കണ്ടെത്തും?

6. Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

7. പരമാര്ത്ഥതയില് നടക്കുന്നവന് നീതിമാന് ; അവന്റെ ശേഷം അവന്റെ മക്കളും ഭാഗ്യവാന്മാര്.

7. The just {man} walketh in his integrity: his children {are} blessed after him.

8. ന്യായാസനത്തില് ഇരിക്കുന്ന രാജാവു തന്റെ കണ്ണുകൊണ്ടു സകലദോഷത്തെയും പേറ്റിക്കളയുന്നു.

8. A king that sitteth on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

9. ഞാന് എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ ശുദ്ധീകരിച്ചു പാപം ഒഴിഞ്ഞു നിര്മ്മലനായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ആര്ക്കും പറയാം?

9. Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?

10. രണ്ടുതരം തൂക്കവും രണ്ടുതരം അളവും രണ്ടും ഒരുപോലെ യഹോവേക്കു വെറുപ്പു.

10. Divers weights, {and} divers measures, both of them {are} alike abomination to the LORD.

11. ബാല്യത്തിലെ ക്രിയകളാല് തന്നേ ഒരുത്തന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തി വെടിപ്പും നേരുമുള്ളതാകുമോ എന്നു അറിയാം.

11. Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work {is} pure, and whether {it is} right.

12. കേള്ക്കുന്ന ചെവി, കാണുന്ന കണ്ണു, ഇവ രണ്ടും യഹോവ ഉണ്ടാക്കി.

12. The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them.

13. ദരിദ്രനാകാതെയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നിദ്രാപ്രിയനാകരുതു; നീ കണ്ണു തുറക്ക; നിനക്കു വേണ്ടുവോളം ആഹാരം ഉണ്ടാകും.

13. Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thy eyes, {and} thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

14. വിലെക്കു വാങ്ങുന്നവന് ചീത്തചീത്ത എന്നു പറയുന്നു; വാങ്ങി തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോകുമ്പോഴോ അവന് പ്രശംസിക്കുന്നു.

14. {It is} naught, {it is} naught, saith the buyer: but when he is gone, then he boasteth.

15. പൊന്നും അനവധി മുത്തുകളും ഉണ്ടല്ലോ; പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ള അധരങ്ങളോ വിലയേറിയ ആഭരണം.

15. There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge {are} a precious jewel.

16. അന്യന്നു വേണ്ടി ജാമ്യം നിലക്കുന്നവന്റെ വസ്ത്രം എടുത്തുകൊള്ക; അന്യജാതിക്കാരന്നു വേണ്ടി ഉത്തരവാദി ആകുന്നവനോടു പണയം വാങ്ങുക.

16. Take his garment that is surety {for} a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

17. വ്യാജത്താല് നേടിയ ആഹാരം മനുഷ്യന്നു മധുരം; പിന്നത്തേതിലോ അവന്റെ വായില് ചരല് നിറയും.

17. Bread of deceit {is} sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

18. ഉദ്ദേശങ്ങള് ആലോചനകൊണ്ടു സാധിക്കുന്നു; ആകയാല് ഭരണസാമര്ത്ഥ്യത്തോടെ യുദ്ധം ചെയ്ക.

18. {Every} purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.

19. നുണയനായി നുടക്കുന്നവന് രഹസ്യം വെളിപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു; ആകയാല് വിടുവായനോടു ഇടപെടരുതു.

19. He that goeth about {as} a tale-bearer revealeth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

20. ആരെങ്കിലും അപ്പനെയോ അമ്മയെയോ ദുഷിച്ചാല് അവന്റെ വിളകൂ കൂരിരുട്ടില് കെട്ടുപോകും.

20. Whoever curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.

21. ഒരു അവകാശം ആദിയില് ബദ്ധപ്പെട്ടു കൈവശമാക്കാം; അതിന്റെ അവസാനമോ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കയില്ല.

21. An inheritance {may be} gotten hastily at the beginning; but the end of it shall not be blessed.

22. ഞാന് ദോഷത്തിന്നു പ്രതികാരം ചെയ്യുമെന്നു നീ പറയരുതു; യഹോവയെ കാത്തിരിക്ക; അവന് നിന്നെ രക്ഷിക്കും.

22. Say not thou, I will recompense evil; {but} wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.

23. രണ്ടുതരം തൂക്കം യഹോവേക്കു വെറുപ്പു; കള്ളത്തുലാസും കൊള്ളരുതു.

23. Divers weights {are} an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance {is} not good.

24. മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഗതികള് യഹോവയാല് നിയമിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു; പിന്നെ മനുഷ്യന്നു തന്റെ വഴി എങ്ങനെ ഗ്രഹിക്കാം?

24. Man's goings {are} of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?

25. “ഇതു നിവേദിതം” എന്നു തത്രപ്പെട്ടു നേരുന്നതും നേര്ന്നശേഷം നിരൂപിക്കുന്നതും മനുഷ്യന്നു ഒരു കണി.

25. {It is} a snare to the man {who} devoureth {that which is} holy, and after vows to make inquiry.

26. ജ്ഞാനമുള്ള രാജാവു ദുഷ്ടന്മാരെ പേറ്റിക്കളയുന്നു; അവരുടെ മേല് അവന് മെതിവണ്ടി ഉരുട്ടുന്നു.

26. A wise king scatterreth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.

27. മനുഷ്യന്റെ ആത്മാവു യഹോവയുടെ ദീപം; അതു ഉദരത്തിന്റെ അറകളെ ഒക്കെയും ശോധനചെയ്യുന്നു.

27. The spirit of man {is} the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

28. ദയയും വിശ്വസ്തതയും രാജാവിനെ കാക്കുന്നു; ദയകൊണ്ടു അവന് തന്റെ സിംഹാസനത്തെ ഉറപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

28. Mercy and truth preserve the king: and his throne is upheld by mercy.

29. യൌവനക്കാരുടെ ശക്തി അവരുടെ പ്രശംസ; വൃദ്ധന്മാരുടെ നര അവരുടെ ഭൂഷണം.

29. The glory of young men {is} their strength: and the beauty of old men {is} the gray head.

30. ഉദരത്തിന്റെ അറകളിലേക്കു ചെല്ലുന്ന തല്ലും പൊട്ടിപ്പോകത്തക്ക അടിയും ദോഷത്തെ അടിച്ചുവാരിക്കളയുന്നു.

30. The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so {do} stripes the inward parts of the belly.
