1. നീ അധിപതിയോടുകൂടെ ഭക്ഷണത്തിന്നു ഇരിക്കുമ്പോള് നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഇരിക്കുന്നവന് ആരെന്നു കരുതിക്കൊള്ക.

1. When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what [is] before thee;

2. നീ ഭോജനപ്രിയന് ആകുന്നുവെങ്കില് നിന്റെ തൊണ്ടെക്കു ഒരു കത്തി വെച്ചുകൊള്ക.

2. and put a knife to thy throat if thou [art] a man given to appetite.

3. അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജനങ്ങളെ കൊതിക്കരുതു; അവ വഞ്ചിക്കുന്ന ഭോജനമല്ലോ.

3. Do not be desirous of his dainties; for they [are] deceitful food.

4. ധനവാനാകേണ്ടതിന്നു പണിപ്പെടരുതു; അതിന്നായുള്ള ബുദ്ധി വിട്ടുകളക.

4. Do not labour to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom.

5. നിന്റെ ദൃഷ്ടി ധനത്തിന്മേല് പതിക്കുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു? അതു ഇല്ലാതെയായ്പോകുമല്ലോ. കഴുകന് ആകാശത്തേക്കു എന്നപോലെ അതു ചിറകെടുത്തു പറന്നുകളയും.

5. Wilt thou set thine eyes upon riches which are not? For they shall certainly make themselves wings; they shall fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

6. കണ്ണുകടിയുള്ളവന്റെ അപ്പം തിന്നരുതു; അവന്റെ സ്വാദുഭോജ്യങ്ങളെ ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.

6. Do not eat the bread of [anyone who has] an evil eye, neither desire his dainty foods;

7. അവന് തന്റെ മനസ്സില് കണകൂ കൂട്ടുന്നതുപോലെ ആകുന്നു; തിന്നു കുടിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു അവന് നിന്നോടു പറയും; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയമോ നിനക്കു അനുകൂലമല്ല.

7. for as he thinks in his soul, so [is] he; Eat and drink, he shall say unto thee, but his heart [is] not with thee.

8. നീ തിന്ന കഷണം ഛര്ദ്ദിച്ചുപോകും; നിന്റെ മാധുര്യവാക്കു നഷ്ടമായെന്നും വരും.

8. Didst thou eat thy part? Thou shalt vomit it up and lose thy sweet words.

9. ഭോഷന് കേള്ക്കെ നീ സംസാരിക്കരുതു; അവന് നിന്റെ വാക്കുകളുടെ ജ്ഞാനത്തെ നിരസിച്ചുകളയും.

9. Do not speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the prudence of thy words.

10. പണ്ടേയുള്ള അതിര് നീക്കരുതു; അനാഥന്മാരുടെ നിലം ആക്രമിക്കയുമരുതു.

10. Do not remove the old landmark, and do not enter into the inheritance of the fatherless:

11. അവരുടെ പ്രതികാരകന് ബലവാനല്ലോ; അവര്ക്കും നിന്നോടുള്ള വ്യവഹാരം അവന് നടത്തും.

11. For their redeemer [is] mighty; he shall judge their cause against thee.

12. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പ്രബോധനത്തിന്നും നിന്റെ ചെവി പരിജ്ഞാനവചനങ്ങള്ക്കും സമര്പ്പിക്ക.

12. Apply thine heart unto chastening and thine ears to the words of wisdom.

13. ബാലന്നു ശിക്ഷ കൊടുക്കാതിരിക്കരുതു; വടികൊണ്ടു അടിച്ചാല് അവന് ചത്തുപോകയില്ല.

13. Do not withhold correction from the child; for [if] thou shall beat him with the rod, he shall not die.

14. വടികൊണ്ടു അവനെ അടിക്കുന്നതിനാല് നീ അവന്റെ പ്രാണനെ പാതാളത്തില്നിന്നു വിടുവിക്കും.

14. Thou shalt beat him with the rod and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.

15. മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ജ്ഞാനത്തെ പഠിച്ചാല് എന്റെ ഹൃദയവും സന്തോഷിക്കും.

15. My son, if thy heart is wise, my heart shall also rejoice;

16. നിന്റെ അധരം നേര് സംസാരിച്ചാല് എന്റെ അന്തരംഗങ്ങള് ആനന്ദിക്കും.

16. my kidneys shall also rejoice when thy lips speak right things.

17. നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം പാപികളോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; നീ എല്ലായ്പോഴും യഹോവഭക്തിയോടിരിക്ക.

17. Let not thy heart envy sinners, but [persevere] in the fear of the LORD all day long.

18. ഒരു പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും നിശ്ചയം; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.

18. For surely there is an end, and thy hope shall not be cut off.

19. മകനേ, കേട്ടു ജ്ഞാനം പഠിക്ക; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ നേര്വഴിയില് നടത്തിക്കൊള്ക.

19. Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and straighten thy heart in the way.

20. നീ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിക്കുന്നവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിലും മാംസഭോജനപ്രിയരുടെ ഇടയിലും ഇരിക്കരുതു.

20. Do not be among those who are drunk with wine; nor among gluttonous eaters of food;

21. കുടിയനും അതിഭക്ഷകനും ദരിദ്രരായ്തീരും; നിദ്രാലുത്വം പഴന്തുണി ഉടുക്കുമാറാക്കും.

21. for the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty, and drowsiness shall cause them to wear rags.

22. നിന്നെ ജനിപ്പിച്ച അപ്പന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്ക; നിന്റെ അമ്മ വൃദ്ധയായിരിക്കുമ്പോള് അവളെ നിന്ദിക്കരുതു.

22. Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

23. നീ സത്യം വില്ക്കയല്ല വാങ്ങുയത്രേ വേണ്ടതു; ജ്ഞാനവും പ്രബോധനവും വിവേകവും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ.

23. Buy the truth and sell [it] not, [also] wisdom and instruction and understanding.

24. നീതിമാന്റെ അപ്പന് ഏറ്റവും ആനന്ദിക്കും; ജ്ഞാനിയുടെ ജനകന് അവനില് സന്തോഷിക്കും.

24. The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice, and he that begets a wise [child] shall have joy with him.

25. നിന്റെ അമ്മയപ്പന്മാര് സന്തോഷിക്കട്ടെ; നിന്നെ പ്രസവിച്ചവള് ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ.

25. Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bore thee shall rejoice.

26. മകനേ, നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം എനിക്കു തരിക; എന്റെ വഴി നിന്റെ കണ്ണിന്നു ഇമ്പമായിരിക്കട്ടെ.

26. My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

27. വേശ്യാസ്ത്രീ ആഴമുള്ള കുഴിയും പരസ്ത്രീ ഇടുക്കമുള്ള കിണറും ആകുന്നു.

27. For a whore [is] a deep ditch and a strange woman [is] a narrow pit.

28. അവള് പിടിച്ചുപറിക്കാരനെപ്പോലെ പതിയിരിക്കുന്നു; മനുഷ്യരില് ദ്രോഹികളെ വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

28. She also lies in wait as [for] a prey and increases the transgressors among men.

29. ആര്ക്കും കഷ്ടം, ആര്ക്കും സങ്കടം, ആര്ക്കും കലഹം? ആര്ക്കും ആവലാതി, ആര്ക്കും അനാവശ്യമായ മുറിവുകള്, ആര്ക്കും കണ്ചുവപ്പു?

29. For who [shall be] the woe? for who [shall be] the woe? for who contention? for who quarrels? for who the wounds without cause? who shall have redness of eyes?

30. വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു നേരം വൈകിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കും മദ്യം രുചിനോക്കുവാന് പോകുന്നവര്ക്കും തന്നേ.

30. For those that tarry long at the wine; those that go to seek mixed wine.

31. വീഞ്ഞു ചുവന്നു പാത്രത്തില് തിളങ്ങുന്നതും രസമായി ഇറക്കുന്നതും നീ നോക്കരുതു.

31. Do not look upon the wine when it is red, when it gives its colour in the cup, it goes down smoothly.

32. ഒടുക്കം അതു സര്പ്പംപോലെ കടിക്കും; അണലിപോലെ കൊത്തും.

32. At the last it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder.

33. നിന്റെ കണ്ണു പരസ്ത്രീകളെ നോക്കും; നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം വക്രത പറയും.

33. Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

34. നീ നടുക്കടലില് ശയിക്കുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും പാമരത്തിന്റെ മുകളില് ഉറങ്ങുന്നവനെപ്പോലെയും ആകും.

34. [Yea], thou shalt be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea or as he that sleeps at the rudder.

35. അവര് എന്നെ അടിച്ചു എനിക്കു നൊന്തില്ല; അവര് എന്നെ തല്ലി, ഞാന് അറിഞ്ഞതുമില്ല. ഞാന് എപ്പോള് ഉണരും? ഞാന് ഇനിയും അതു തന്നേ തേടും എന്നു നീ പറയും.

35. They have stricken me, [thou shalt say], [and] I was not sick; they have beaten me, [and] I felt [it] not; when I shall awake, I will seek it yet again.:
