1. ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോടു അസൂയപ്പെടരുതു; അവരോടുകൂടെ ഇരിപ്പാന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കയുമരുതു.

1. Do not envy evil people, do not desire to be with them;

2. അവരുടെ ഹൃദയം സാഹസം ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു; അവരുടെ അധരം വേണ്ടാതനം പറയുന്നു.

2. for their hearts contemplate violence, and their lips speak harm.

3. ജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു ഭവനം പണിയുന്നു; വിവേകംകൊണ്ടു അതു സ്ഥിരമായിവരുന്നു.

3. By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;

4. പരിജ്ഞാനംകൊണ്ടു അതിന്റെ മുറികളില് വലിയേറിയതും മനോഹരവുമായ സകല സമ്പത്തും നിറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

4. by knowledge its rooms are filled with all kinds of precious and pleasing treasures.

5. ജ്ഞാനിയായ പുരുഷന് ബലവാനാകുന്നു; പരിജ്ഞാനമുള്ളവന് ബലം വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

5. A wise warrior is strong, and a man of knowledge makes his strength stronger;

6. ഭരണസാമര്ത്ഥ്യത്തോടെ നീ യുദ്ധം നടത്തി ജയിക്കും; മന്ത്രിമാരുടെ ബഹുത്വത്തില് രക്ഷയുണ്ടു.

6. for with guidance you wage your war, and with numerous advisers there is victory.

7. ജ്ഞാനം ഭോഷന്നു അത്യുന്നതമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അവന് പട്ടണവാതില്ക്കല് വായ് തുറക്കുന്നില്ല.

7. Wisdom is unattainable for a fool; in court he does not open his mouth.

8. ദോഷം ചെയ്വാന് നിരൂപിക്കുന്നവനെ ദുഷ്കര്മ്മി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു;

8. The one who plans to do evil will be called a scheming person.

9. ഭോഷന്റെ നിരൂപണം പാപം തന്നേ; പരിഹാസി മനുഷ്യര്ക്കും വെറുപ്പാകുന്നു.

9. A foolish scheme is sin, and the scorner is an abomination to people.

10. കഷ്ടകാലത്തു നീ കുഴഞ്ഞുപോയാല് നിന്റെ ബലം നഷ്ടം തന്നേ.

10. If you faint in the day of trouble, your strength is small!

11. മരണത്തിന്നു കൊണ്ടുപോകുന്നവരെ വിടുവിക്ക; കുലെക്കായി വിറെച്ചു ചെല്ലുന്നവരെ രക്ഷിപ്പാന് നോക്കുക.

11. Deliver those being taken away to death, and hold back those slipping to the slaughter.

12. ഞങ്ങള് അറിഞ്ഞില്ലല്ലോ എന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞാല് ഹൃദയങ്ങളെ തൂക്കിനോക്കുന്നവന് ഗ്രഹിക്കയില്ലയോ? നിന്റെ പ്രാണനെ കാക്കുന്നവന് അറികയില്ലയോ? അവന് മനുഷ്യന്നു പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു തക്കവണ്ണം പകരം കൊടുക്കയില്ലയോ?

12. If you say, 'But we did not know about this,' does not the one who evaluates hearts consider? Does not the one who guards your life know? Will he not repay each person according to his deeds?

13. മകനേ, തേന് തിന്നുക; അതു നല്ലതല്ലോ; തേങ്കട്ട നിന്റെ അണ്ണാക്കിന്നു മധുരമത്രേ.

13. Eat honey, my child, for it is good, and honey from the honeycomb is sweet to your taste.

14. ജ്ഞാനവും നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിന്നു അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ എന്നറിക; നീ അതു പ്രാപിച്ചാല് പ്രതിഫലം ഉണ്ടാകും; നിന്റെ പ്രത്യാശെക്കു ഭംഗം വരികയുമില്ല.

14. Likewise, know that wisdom is sweet to your soul; if you find it, you will have a future, and your hope will not be cut off.

15. ദുഷ്ടാ, നീ നീതിമാന്റെ പാര്പ്പിടത്തിന്നു പതിയിരിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ വിശ്രാമസ്ഥലത്തെ നശിപ്പിക്കയുമരുതു.

15. Do not lie in wait like the wicked against the place where the righteous live; do not assault his home.

16. നീതിമാന് ഏഴുപ്രാവശ്യം വീണാലും എഴുന്നേലക്കും; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോ അനര്ത്ഥത്തില് നശിച്ചുപോകും.

16. Although a righteous person may fall seven times, he gets up again, but the wicked will be brought down by calamity.

17. നിന്റെ ശത്രു വീഴുമ്പോള് സന്തോഷിക്കരുതു; അവന് ഇടറുമ്പോള് നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ആനന്ദിക്കരുതു.

17. Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and when he stumbles do not let your heart rejoice,

18. യഹോവ കണ്ടിട്ടു അവന്നു ഇഷ്ടക്കേടാകുവാനും തന്റെ കോപം അവങ്കല്നിന്നു മാറ്റിക്കളവാനും മതി.

18. lest the LORD see it, and be displeased, and turn his wrath away from him.

19. ദുഷ്പ്രവൃത്തിക്കാര് നിമിത്തം മുഷിയരുതു; ദുഷ്ടന്മാരോടു അസൂയപ്പെടുകയും അരുതു.

19. Do not fret because of evil people or be envious of wicked people,

20. ദോഷിക്കു പ്രതിഫലമുണ്ടാകയില്ല; ദുഷ്ടന്റെ വിളകൂ കെട്ടുപോകും.

20. for the evil person has no future, and the lamp of the wicked will be extinguished.

21. മകനേ, യഹോവയെയും രാജാവിനെയും ഭയപ്പെടുക; മത്സരികളോടു ഇടപെടരുതു.

21. Fear the LORD, my child, as well as the king, and do not associate with rebels,

22. അവരുടെ ആപത്തു പെട്ടെന്നു വരും; രണ്ടു കൂട്ടര്ക്കും വരുന്ന നാശം ആരറിയുന്നു?

22. for suddenly their destruction will overtake them, and who knows the ruinous judgment both the LORD and the king can bring?

23. ഇവയും ജ്ഞാനികളുടെ വാക്യങ്ങള്. ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തില് മുഖദാക്ഷിണ്യം നന്നല്ല.

23. These sayings also are from the wise: To show partiality in judgment is terrible:

24. ദുഷ്ടനോടു നീ നീതിമാന് എന്നു പറയുന്നവനെ ജാതികള് ശപിക്കയും വംശങ്ങള് വെറുക്കുകയും ചെയ്യും.

24. The one who says to the guilty, 'You are innocent,' peoples will curse him, and nations will denounce him.

25. അവനെ ശാസിക്കുന്നവര്ക്കോ നന്മ ഉണ്ടാകും; നല്ലോരനുഗ്രഹം അവരുടെ മേല് വരും.

25. But there will be delight for those who convict the guilty, and a pleasing blessing will come on them.

26. നേരുള്ള ഉത്തരം പറയുന്നവന് അധരങ്ങളെ ചുംബനം ചെയ്യുന്നു.

26. Like a kiss on the lips is the one who gives an honest answer.

27. വെളിയില് നിന്റെ വേല ചെയ്ക; വയലില് എല്ലാം തീര്ക്കുംക; പിന്നെത്തേതില് നിന്റെ വീടു പണിയുക.

27. Establish your work outside and get your fields ready; afterward build your house.

28. കാരണം കൂടാതെ കൂട്ടുകാരന്നു വിരോധമായി സാക്ഷിനില്ക്കരുതു; നിന്റെ അധരംകൊണ്ടു ചതിക്കയും അരുതു.

28. Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, and do not deceive with your words.

29. അവന് എന്നോടു ചെയ്തതുപോലെ ഞാന് അവനോടു ചെയ്യുമെന്നും ഞാന് അവന്നു അവന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തിക്കു പകരം കൊടുക്കും എന്നും നീ പറയരുതു.

29. Do not say, 'I will do to him just as he has done to me; I will pay him back according to what he has done.'

30. ഞാന് മടിയന്റെ കണ്ടത്തിന്നരികെയും ബുദ്ധിഹീനന്റെ മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടത്തിന്നു സമീപെയും കൂടി പോയി.

30. I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of one who lacks wisdom.

31. അവിടെ മുള്ളു പടര്ന്നുപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നതും തൂവ നിറഞ്ഞു നിലം മൂടിയിരിക്കുന്നതും അതിന്റെ കന്മതില് ഇടിഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്നതും കണ്ടു.

31. I saw that thorns had grown up all over it, the ground was covered with weeds, and its stone wall was broken down.

32. ഞാന് അതു നോക്കി വിചാരിക്കയും അതു കണ്ടു ഉപദേശം പ്രാപിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.

32. When I saw this, I gave careful consideration to it; I received instruction from what I saw:

33. കുറെക്കൂടെ ഉറക്കം, കുറെക്കൂടെ നിദ്ര, കുറെക്കൂടെ കൈ കെട്ടി കിടക്ക.

33. 'A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to relax,

34. അങ്ങനെ നിന്റെ ദാരിദ്ര്യം വഴിപോക്കനെപ്പോലെയും നിന്റെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടു ആയുധപാണിയെപ്പോലെയും വരും.

34. and your poverty will come like a bandit, and your need like an armed robber.'
