1. നിന്റെ അപ്പത്തെ വെള്ളത്തിന്മേല് എറിക; ഏറിയനാള് കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു നിനക്കു അതു കിട്ടും;

1. Send forth your bread upon the face of the water, for you shall find it after many days.

2. ഒരു ഔഹരിയെ ഏഴായിട്ടോ എട്ടായിട്ടോ വിഭാഗിച്ചുകൊള്ക; ഭൂമിയില് എന്തു അനര്ത്ഥം സംഭവിക്കും എന്നു നീ അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.

2. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil there shall be upon the earth.

3. മേഘം വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു നിറഞ്ഞിരുന്നാല് ഭൂമിയില് പെയ്യും; വൃക്ഷം തെക്കോട്ടോ വടക്കോട്ടോ വീണാല് വീണെടത്തു തന്നേ കിടക്കും.

3. If the clouds are filled with rain, they pour [it] out upon the earth; and if a tree fall southward, or if it fall northward, in the place where the tree shall fall, there it shall be.

4. കാറ്റിനെ വിചാരിക്കുന്നവന് വിതെക്കയില്ല; മേഘങ്ങളെ നോക്കുന്നവന് കൊയ്കയുമില്ല.

4. He that observes the wind sows not; and he that looks at the clouds will not reap.

5. കാറ്റിന്റെ ഗതി എങ്ങോട്ടെന്നും ഗര്ഭിണിയുടെ ഉദരത്തില് അസ്ഥികള് ഉരുവായ്വരുന്നതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നും നീ അറിയാത്തതുപോലെ സകലവും ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്ന ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പ്രവൃത്തികളെ നീ അറിയുന്നില്ല. രാവിലേ നിന്റെ വിത്തു വിതെക്ക; വൈകുന്നേരത്തു നിന്റെ കൈ ഇളെച്ചിരിക്കരുതു; ഇതോ, അതോ, ഏതു സഫലമാകും എന്നും രണ്ടും ഒരുപോലെ നന്നായിരിക്കുമോ എന്നും നീ അറിയുന്നില്ലല്ലോ.

5. Among whom none knows what is the way of the wind. As the bones [are hid] in the womb of a pregnant [woman], so you shall not know the works of God, [even] all things whatsoever He shall do.

6. വെളിച്ചം മനോഹരവും സൂര്യനെ കാണുന്നതു കണ്ണിന്നു ഇമ്പവുമാകുന്നു.

6. In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening let not your hand be slack; for you know not what sort shall prosper whether this or that, or whether both shall be good alike.

7. മനുഷ്യന് ബഹുകാലം ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എങ്കില് അവന് അതില് ഒക്കെയും സന്തോഷിക്കട്ടെ; എങ്കിലും അന്ധകാരകാലം ദീര്ഘമായിരിക്കും എന്നും അവന് ഔര്ത്തുകൊള്ളട്ടെ; വരുന്നതൊക്കെയും മായ അത്രേ.

7. Moreover the light is sweet, and it is good for the eyes to see the sun.

8. യൌവനക്കാരാ, നിന്റെ യൌവനത്തില് സന്തോഷിക്ക; യൌവനകാലത്തില് നിന്റെ ഹൃദയം ആനന്ദിക്കട്ടെ; നിനക്കു ഇഷ്ടമുള്ള വഴികളിലും നിനക്കു ബോധിച്ചവണ്ണവും നടന്നുകൊള്ക; എന്നാല് ഇവ ഒക്കെയും നിമിത്തം ദൈവം നിന്നെ ന്യായവിസ്താരത്തിലേക്കു വരുത്തും എന്നറിക.

8. For even if a man should live many years, [and] rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that comes is vanity.

9. ആകയാല് നിന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തില്നിന്നു വ്യസനം അകറ്റി, നിന്റെ ദേഹത്തില്നിന്നു തിന്മ നീക്കിക്കളക; ബാല്യവും യൌവനവും മായ അത്രേ.

9. Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart blameless, but not in the sight of your eyes: yet know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.
