1. നീ യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ പ്രഭുവിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ഒരു വിലാപം ചൊല്ലേണ്ടതു

1. 'Now, raise a lament for the princes of Israel.

2. നിന്റെ അമ്മ ആരായിരുന്നു; ഒരു സിംഹി തന്നേ; അവള് സിംഹങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് കിടന്നു തന്റെ കുട്ടികളെ ബാലസിംഹങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് വളര്ത്തി.

2. Say: What was your mother? A lioness among lions; lying among the cubs she nursed her whelps.

3. അവള് തന്റെ കുട്ടികളില് ഒന്നിനെ വളര്ത്തി; അതു ഒരു ബാലസിംഹമായിത്തീര്ന്നു; അതു ഇര തേടി പിടിപ്പാന് ശീലിച്ചു, മനുഷ്യരെ തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

3. She reared one of her whelps: he grew into a young lion; he learnt to tear his prey; he became a man-eater.

4. ജാതികള് അവന്റെ വസ്തുത കേട്ടു; അവരുടെ കുഴിയില് അവന് അകപ്പെട്ടു; അവര് അവനെ കൊളുത്തിട്ടു മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

4. The nations came to hear of him; he was caught in their pit; they dragged him away with hooks to Egypt.

5. എന്നാല് അവള് താന് വെച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്ന ആശെക്കു ഭംഗംവന്നു എന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു തന്റെ കുട്ടികളില് മറ്റൊന്നിനെ എടുത്തു ബാലസിംഹമാക്കി.

5. Her expectation thwarted, and seeing her hope dashed, she took another of her whelps and made a young lion of him.

6. അവനും സിംഹങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില് സഞ്ചരിച്ചു ബാലസിംഹമായിത്തീര്ന്നു, ഇര തേടിപ്പിടിപ്പാന് ശീലിച്ചു, മനുഷ്യരെ തിന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

6. He prowled among the lions, he grew into a young lion, he learnt to tear his prey; he became a man-eater.

7. അവന് അവരുടെ രാജധാനികളെ അറിഞ്ഞു, അവരുടെ പട്ടണങ്ങളെ ശൂന്യമാക്കി; അവന്റെ ഗര്ജ്ജനം ഹേതുവായി ദേശവും അതിലുള്ളതൊക്കെയും ശൂന്യമായ്പോയി.

7. He tore down their palaces, he destroyed their cities; the land and all its inhabitants were appalled by the sound of his roars.

8. അപ്പോള് ജാതികള് ചുറ്റുമുള്ള സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളില്നിന്നു അവന്റെ നേരെ വന്നു അവന്റെ മേല് വല വീശി അവന് അവരുടെ കുഴിയില് അകപ്പെട്ടു.

8. The nations marched out against him from the surrounding provinces; they spread their net over him; he was caught in their pit.

9. അവര് അവനെ കൊളുത്തിട്ടു ഒരു കൂട്ടില് ആക്കി ബാബേല്രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുപോയി; ഇനി അവന്റെ നാദം യിസ്രായേല്പര്വ്വതങ്ങളില് കേള്ക്കാതെയിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവര് അവനെ ദുര്ഗ്ഗങ്ങളില് കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

9. They shackled him with hooks, they took him to the king of Babylon and threw him into a fortress, so that his voice could never again be heard on the mountains of Israel.

10. നിന്റെ അമ്മ, മുന്തിരിത്തോട്ടത്തില് വെള്ളത്തിന്നരികെ നട്ടിരിക്കുന്ന മുന്തിരിവള്ളിപോലെയാകുന്നു; വളരെ വെള്ളമുള്ളതുകൊണ്ടു അതു ഫലപ്രദവും തഴെച്ചതുമായിരുന്നു.

10. Your mother was like a vine planted beside the water, fruitful and leafy, because the water flowed so full.

11. അതില് അധിപതികളുടെ ചെങ്കോലുകള്ക്കായി ബലമുള്ള കൊമ്പുകള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അതു തിങ്ങിയ കൊമ്പുകളുടെ ഇടയില് വളര്ന്നു പൊങ്ങിയിരുന്നു; അതു പൊക്കംകൊണ്ടും കൊമ്പുകളുടെ പെരുപ്പം കൊണ്ടും പ്രസിദ്ധമായിരുന്നു.

11. She had stout stems which became kingly sceptres; she grew higher and higher, up into the clouds; she was admired for her height and the number of her branches.

12. എന്നാല് അതിനെ ക്രോധത്തോടെ പറിച്ചു നിലത്തു തള്ളിയിട്ടു; കിഴക്കന് കാറ്റു അതിന്റെ ഫലം ഉണക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു; അതിന്റെ ബലമുള്ള കൊമ്പുകള് ഒടിഞ്ഞു ഉണങ്ങിപ്പോയി തീക്കിരയായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

12. But she was furiously uprooted and thrown on the ground; the east wind dried up her fruit, she was broken to pieces; her stout stem dried up, the fire devoured it.

13. ഇപ്പോള് അതിനെ മരുഭൂമിയില് ഉണങ്ങിവരണ്ട നിലത്തു നട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

13. Now she has been transplanted to the desert, to a dry and thirsty land.

14. അതിന്റെ കൊമ്പുകളിലെ ഒരു കോലില്നിന്നു തീ പുറപ്പെട്ടു അതിന്റെ ഫലം ദഹിപ്പിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ആധിപത്യത്തിന്നു ചെങ്കോലായിരിപ്പാന് തക്കബലമുള്ള കോല് അതില്നിന്നെടുപ്പാന് ഇല്ലാതെപോയി; ഇതു ഒരു വിലാപം; ഒരു വിലാപമായിത്തീര്ന്നുമിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. Fire burst out of her stem devouring her branches and fruit. No more stout stem for her, no more kingly sceptre.' This is a lament; it was used as such.
