1. ബേല്ശസ്സര്രാജാവു തന്റെ മഹത്തുക്കളില് ആയിരം പേര്ക്കും ഒരു വലിയ വിരുന്നു ഒരുക്കി അവര് കാണ്കെ വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചു.

1. Belshazzar the king made a great supper for his thousand nobles, and [there was] wine before the thousand.

2. ബേല്ശസ്സര് വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചു രസിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോള്, തന്റെ അപ്പനായ നെബൂഖദ്നേസര് യെരൂശലേമിലെ മന്ദിരത്തില്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകൊണ്ടുവന്നിരുന്ന പൊന് വെള്ളി പാത്രങ്ങളെ, രാജാവും മഹത്തുക്കളും അവന്റെ ഭാര്യമാരും വെപ്പാട്ടികളും അവയില് കുടിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നായി കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് കല്പിച്ചു.

2. And Belshazzar, drinking, gave orders as he tasted the wine that they should bring the gold and silver vessels, which Nebuchadnezzar his father had brought forth from the temple in Jerusalem; that the king, and his nobles, and his mistresses, and his concubines, should drink out of them.

4. അവര് വീഞ്ഞു കുടിച്ചു പൊന്നും വെള്ളിയും താമ്രവും ഇരിമ്പും മരവും കല്ലും കൊണ്ടുള്ള ദേവന്മാരെ സ്തുതിച്ചു.

4. They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, and of brass, and of iron, and of wood, and of stone.

5. തല്ക്ഷണം ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്റെ കൈവിരലുകള് പറുപ്പെട്ടു വിളക്കിന്നു നേരെ രാജധാനിയുടെ ചുവരിന്റെ വെള്ളമേല് എഴുതി; എഴുതി പ്പെത്തി രാജാവു കണ്ടു.

5. In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote in front of the lamp on the plaster of the wall of the king's house: and the king saw the knuckles of the hand that wrote.

6. ഉടനെ രാജാവിന്റെ മുഖഭാവം മാറി; അവന് വിചാരങ്ങളാല് പരവശനായിഅരയുടെ ഏപ്പു അഴിഞ്ഞു കാല്മുട്ടുകള് ആടിപ്പോയി.

6. Then the king's countenance changed, and his thoughts troubled him, and the joints of his hips were loosed, and his knees knocked one another.

7. രാജാവു ഉറക്കെ വിളിച്ചുആഭിചാരകന്മാരെയും കല്ദയരെയും ശകുനവാദികളെയും കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് കല്പിച്ചു. രാജാവു ബാബേലിലെ വിദ്വാന്മാരോടുആരെങ്കിലും ഈ എഴുത്തു വായിച്ചു അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിച്ചാല്, അവന് ധൂമ്രവസ്ത്രവും കഴുത്തില് പൊന് മാലയും ധരിച്ചു, രാജ്യത്തില് മൂന്നാമനായി വാഴും എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

7. And the king cried aloud to bring in the magicians, Chaldeans, [and] soothsayers. And he said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and make known to me the interpretation, shall be clothed with scarlet, and [there shall be] a golden chain upon his neck, and he shall be the third ruler in my kingdom.

8. അങ്ങനെ രാജാവിന്റെ വിദ്വാന്മാരൊക്കെയും അകത്തുവന്നു; എങ്കിലും എഴുത്തു വായിപ്പാനും രാജാവിനെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിപ്പാനും അവര്ക്കും കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

8. Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing, nor make known its interpretation to the king.

9. അപ്പോള് ബേല്ശസ്സര്രാജാവു അത്യന്തം വ്യാകുലപ്പെട്ടു, അവന്റെ മുഖഭാവം മാറി, അവന്റെ മഹത്തുക്കള് അമ്പരന്നു പോയി.

9. And King Belshazzar was troubled, and his countenance changed upon him, and his nobles were troubled with him.

10. രാജാവിന്റെ മഹത്തുക്കളുടെയും വാക്കു ഹേതുവായി രാജ്ഞി ഭോജനശാലയില് വന്നുരാജാവു ദീര്ഘായുസ്സായിരിക്കട്ടെ; തിരുമനസ്സുകൊണ്ടു വിചാരങ്ങളാല് പരവശനാകരുതു; മുഖഭാവം മാറുകയും അരുതു.

10. Then the queen came into the banquet house, and said, O king, live forever. Let not your thoughts trouble you, and let not your countenance be changed.

11. വിശുദ്ധദേവന്മാരുടെ ആത്മാവുള്ള ഒരു പുരുഷന് തിരുമനസ്സിലെ രാജ്യത്തുണ്ടു; തിരുമേനിയുടെ അപ്പന്റെ കാലത്തു പ്രകാശവും ബുദ്ധിയും ദേവന്മാരുടെ ജ്ഞാനംപോലെയുള്ള ജ്ഞാനവും അവനില് കണ്ടിരുന്നു; തിരുമേനിയുടെ അപ്പനായ നെബൂഖദ്നേസര്രാജാവു, രാജാവേ, തിരുമേനിയുടെ അപ്പന് തന്നേ,

11. There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the Spirit of God; and in the days of your father watchfulness and understanding were found in him; and King Nebuchadnezzar your father made him chief of the enchanters, magicians, Chaldeans, [and] soothsayers.

12. ബേല്ത്ത് ശസ്സര് എന്നു പേരുവിളിച്ച ദാനീയേലില് ഉല്കൃഷ്ടമനസ്സും അറിവും ബുദ്ധിയും സ്വപ്നവ്യാഖ്യാനവും ഗൂഢാര്ത്ഥവാക്യ പ്രദര്ശനവും സംശയച്ഛേദനവും കണ്ടിരിക്കയാല്, രാജാവു അവനെ മന്ത്രവാദികള്ക്കും ആഭിചാരകന്മാര്ക്കും കല്ദയര്ക്കും ശകുനവാദികള്ക്കും അധിപതിയാക്കിവെച്ചു; ഇപ്പോള് ദാനീയേലിനെ വിളിക്കട്ടെ; അവന് അര്ത്ഥം ബോധിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു ഉണര്ത്തിച്ചു.

12. For [there is] an excellent spirit in him, and sense and understanding [is] in him, interpreting dreams [as he does], and answering hard [questions,] and solving riddles. [It is] Daniel, and the king gave him the name of Belteshazzar. Now then let him be called, and he shall tell you the interpretation of the writing.

13. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ദാനീയേലിനെ രാജസന്നിധിയില് കൊണ്ടു വന്നു; രാജാവു ദാനീയേലിനോടു കല്പിച്ചതുഎന്റെ അപ്പനായ രാജാവു യെഹൂദയില്നിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന യെഹൂദാപ്രവാസികളില് ഉള്ളവനായ ദാനീയേല് നീ തന്നേയോ?

13. Then Daniel was brought in before the king, and the king said to Daniel, Are you Daniel, of the children of the captivity of Judah, which my father the king brought [from Judah]?

14. ദേവന്മാരുടെ ആത്മാവു നിന്നില് ഉണ്ടെന്നും പ്രകാശവും ബുദ്ധിയും വിശേഷജ്ഞാനവും നിന്നില് കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നും ഞാന് നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

14. I have heard about you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and [that] watchfulness and understanding and excellent wisdom have been found in you.

15. ഇപ്പോള് ഈ എഴുത്തു വായിച്ചു അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു വിദ്വാന്മാരെയും ആഭിചാരകന്മാരെയും എന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ വരുത്തിയിരുന്നു; എങ്കിലും കാര്യത്തിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിപ്പാന് അവര്ക്കും കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

15. And now, the wise men, magicians, [and] soothsayers have come in before me, to read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation, but they could not tell it to me.

16. എന്നാല് അര്ത്ഥം പറവാനും സംശയച്ഛേദനം ചെയ്വാനും നീ പ്രാപ്തനെന്നു ഞാന് നിന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു കേട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു; ആകയാല് ഈ എഴുത്തു വായിച്ചു, അതിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥം അറിയിപ്പാന് നിനക്കു കഴിയുമെങ്കില് നീ ധൂമ്രവസ്ത്രവും കഴുത്തില് പൊന്മാലയും ധരിച്ചു, രാജ്യത്തിലെ മൂന്നാമനായി വാഴും.

16. And I have heard about you, that you are able to make interpretations. Now then, if you are able to read the writing, and to make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple, and there shall be a golden chain upon your neck, and you shall be third ruler in my kingdom.

17. ദാനീയേല് രാജസന്നിധിയില് ഉത്തരം ഉണര്ത്തിച്ചതുദാനങ്ങള് തിരുമേനിക്കു തന്നേ ഇരിക്കട്ടെ; സമ്മാനങ്ങള് മറ്റൊരുത്തന്നു കൊടുത്താലും; എഴുത്തു ഞാന് രാജാവിനെ വായിച്ചുകേള്പ്പിച്ചു അര്ത്ഥം ബോധിപ്പിക്കാം;

17. And Daniel said before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself, and give the presents of your house to another; but I will read the writing, and will make known to you its interpretation.

18. രാജാവേ, അത്യുന്നതനായ ദൈവം തിരുമേനിയുടെ അപ്പനായ നെബൂഖദ് നേസരിന്നു രാജത്വവും മഹത്വവും പ്രതാപവും ബഹുമാനവും നല്കി.

18. O king, the Most High God gave to your father Nebuchadnezzar a kingdom, and majesty, and honor, and glory.

19. അവന്നു നല്കിയ മഹത്വം ഹേതുവായി സകലവംശങ്ങളും ജാതികളും ഭാഷക്കാരും അവന്റെ മുമ്പില് ഭയപ്പെട്ടു വിറെച്ചു; തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചവനെ അവന് കൊല്ലുകയും ബോധിച്ചവനെ ജീവനോടെവെക്കയും ബോധിച്ചവനെ ഉയര്ത്തുകയും ബോധിച്ചവനെ താഴ്ത്തുകയും ചെയ്തുവന്നു.

19. And by reason of the majesty which He gave to him, all nations, tribes, [and] languages trembled and feared before him. Whomever he wished, he executed; whomever he wished, he exalted; and whomever he wished, he abased.

20. എന്നാല് അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം ഗര്വ്വിച്ചു, അവന്റെ മനസ്സു അഹങ്കാരത്താല് കഠിനമായിപ്പോയ ശേഷം അവന് രാജാസനത്തില്നിന്നു നീങ്ങിപ്പോയി; അവര് അവന്റെ മഹത്വം അവങ്കല്നിന്നു എടുത്തുകളഞ്ഞു.

20. But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was emboldened to act proudly, he was deposed from his royal throne, and [his] honor was taken from him.

21. അങ്ങനെ അവന് മനുഷ്യരുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു നീങ്ങി; അവന്റെ ഹൃദയം മൃഗപ്രായമായ്തീര്ന്നു; അവന്റെ പാര്പ്പു കാട്ടുകഴുതകളോടുകൂടെ ആയിരുന്നു; അവനെ കാളയെപ്പോലെ പുല്ലു തീറ്റി; മനുഷ്യരുടെ രാജത്വത്തിന്മേല് അത്യുന്നതനായ ദൈവം വാഴുകയും തനിക്കു ബോധിച്ചവനെ അതിന്നു നിയമിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നു അവന് അറിഞ്ഞതുവരെ അവന്റെ ദേഹം ആകാശത്തിലെ മഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടു നനഞ്ഞു.

21. And he was driven forth from men. And a heart was given to him after the nature of wild beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. And they fed him with grass like an ox, and his body was bathed with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God is Lord of the kingdom of men, and will give it to whomever He chooses.

22. അവന്റെ മകനായ ബേല്ശസ്സരേ, ഇതൊക്കെയും അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടു തിരുമേനിയുടെ ഹൃദയത്തെ താഴ്ത്താതെ

22. And you accordingly, his son, O Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart before God: do you not know all this?

23. സ്വര്ഗ്ഗസ്ഥനായ കര്ത്താവിന്റെ നേരെ തന്നെത്താന് ഉയര്ത്തി അവന്റെ ആലയത്തിലെ പാത്രങ്ങളെ അവര് തിരുമുമ്പില് കൊണ്ടുവന്നു; തിരുമേനിയും മഹത്തുക്കളും തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ഭാര്യമാരും വെപ്പാട്ടികളും അവയില് വീഞ്ഞുകടിച്ചു; കാണ്മാനും കേള്പ്പാനും അറിവാനും വഹിയാത്ത പൊന്നു, വെള്ളി, താമ്രം, ഇരിമ്പു, മരം, കല്ലു എന്നിവകൊണ്ടുള്ള ദേവന്മാരെ സ്തുതിച്ചു; തിരുമനസ്സിലെ ശ്വാസവും എല്ലാവഴികളും കൈവശമുള്ളവനായ ദൈവത്തെ മഹത്വീകരിച്ചചതുമില്ല.

23. And you have exalted yourself against the Lord God of heaven; and they have brought before you the vessels of His house, and you, your nobles, your mistresses, and your concubines have drunk wine out of them; and you have praised the gods of gold, silver, brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, and which hear not, and know not: and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

24. ആകയാല് അവന് ആ കൈപ്പത്തി അയച്ചു ഈ എഴുത്തു എഴുതിച്ചു.

24. Therefore from His presence has been sent forth the finger of a hand, and He has ordered the writing.

25. എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്ന എഴുത്തോമെനേ, മെനേ, തെക്കേല്, ഊഫര്സീന് .

25. And this is the ordered writing: Mene, Tekel, Peres.

26. കാര്യത്തിന്റെ അര്ത്ഥമാവിതുമെനേ എന്നുവെച്ചാല്ദൈവം നിന്റെ രാജത്വം എണ്ണി, അതിന്നു അന്തം വരുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

26. This is the interpretation of the sentence: Mene; God has numbered your kingdom, and finished it.

27. തെക്കേല് എന്നുവെച്ചാല്തുലാസില് നിന്നെ തൂക്കി, കുറവുള്ളവനായി കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.

27. Tekel; it has been weighed in the balance, and found wanting.

28. പെറേസ് എന്നുവെച്ചാല്നിന്റെ രാജ്യം വിഭാഗിച്ചു മേദ്യര്ക്കും പാര്സികള്ക്കും കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

28. Peres; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

29. അപ്പോള് ബേല്ശസ്സരിന്റെ കല്പനയാല് അവര് ദാനീയേലിനെ ധൂമ്രവസ്ത്രവും കഴുത്തില് പൊന്മാലയും ധരിപ്പിച്ചു; അവന് രാജ്യത്തിലെ മൂന്നാമനായി വാഴും എന്നു അവനെക്കുറിച്ചു പ്രസിദ്ധമാക്കി.

29. Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with scarlet, and put the golden chain about his neck, and proclaimed concerning him that he was the third ruler in the kingdom.

30. ആ രാത്രിയില് തന്നെ കല്ദയരാജാവായ ബേല്ശസ്സര് കൊല്ലപ്പെട്ടു.

30. In the same night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was slain.

31. മേദ്യനായ ദാര്യ്യാവേശ് അറുപത്തുരണ്ടു വയസ്സുള്ളവനായി രാജത്വം പ്രാപിച്ചു.

31. And Darius the Mede succeeded to the kingdom, being sixty-two years [old].
