1. തീബെര്യ്യൊസ് കൈസരുടെ വാഴ്ചയുടെ പതിനഞ്ചാം ആണ്ടില് പൊന്തിയൊസ് പീലാത്തൊസ് യെഹൂദ്യനാടു വാഴുമ്പോള്, ഹെരോദാവു ഗലീലയിലും അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ഫീലിപ്പൊസ് ഇരൂര്യ്യത്രഖോനിത്തിദേശങ്ങളിലും ലുസാന്യാസ് അബിലേനയിലും

1. In the fiftenth yeare of the raigne of Tiberius the Emperoure, wha Pontius Pilate was leftenaut in Iewry and Herode one of the foure princes in Galile, and his brother Philippe one of the foure prynces in Iturea, & in the coastes of Traconites, and Lysanias one of the foure princes of Abilene,

2. ഇടപ്രഭൂക്കന്മാരായും ഹന്നാവും കയ്യഫാവും മഹാപുരോഹിതന്മാരായും ഇരിക്കും കാലം സെഖര്യ്യാവിന്റെ മകനായ യോഹന്നാന്നു മരുഭൂമിയില്വെച്ചു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടു ഉണ്ടായി.

2. when Hannas and Caiphas were hye prestes, the came ye worde of God vnto Ihon the sonne of Zachary in the wyldernes.

3. അവന് യോര്ദ്ദാന്നരികെയുള്ള നാട്ടില് ഒക്കെയും വന്നു പാപമോചനത്തിനായുള്ള മാനസാന്തരസ്നാനം പ്രസംഗിച്ചു.

3. And he came in to all ye coastes aboute Iordan, and preached the baptyme of repetaunce for the remyssion of synnes.

4. “മരുഭൂമിയില് വിളിച്ചുപറയുന്നവന്റെ വാക്കാവിതുകര്ത്താവിന്റെ വഴി ഒരുക്കുവിന് ; അവന്റെ പാത നിരപ്പാക്കുവിന് .”

4. As it is wrytte in ye boke of ye sayenges of Esaye the prophet, which sayeth: The voyce of a cryer in the wyldernes: prepare the waye of the LORDE, and make his pathes straight.

5. എല്ലാതാഴ്വരയും നികന്നുവരും; എല്ലാമലയും കുന്നും താഴും; വളഞ്ഞതു ചൊവ്വായും ദുര്ഘടമായതു നിരന്ന വഴിയായും തീരും; സകലജഡവും ദൈവത്തിന്റെ രക്ഷയെ കാണും” എന്നിങ്ങനെ യെശയ്യാപ്രവാചകന്റെ പുസ്തകത്തില് എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നതു പോലെ തന്നേ.

5. Euery valley shalbe fylled, and euery mountayne & hyll shalbe brought lowe. And what so is croked, shalbe made straight: and what rough is, shalbe made smooth,

6. അവനാല് സ്നാനം ഏല്പാന് വന്ന പുരുഷാരത്തോടു അവന് പറഞ്ഞതുസര്പ്പസന്തതികളേ, വരുവാനുള്ള കോപത്തെ ഒഴിഞ്ഞ് ഔടിപ്പോകുവാന് നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഉപദേശിച്ചുതന്നതു ആര്?

6. and all flesh shal se the Sauioure of God.

7. മാനസാന്തരത്തിന്നു യോഗ്യമായ ഫലം കായിപ്പിന് . അബ്രാഹാം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പിതാവായിട്ടുണ്ടു; എന്നു ഉള്ളം കൊണ്ടു പറവാന് തുനിയരുതു; അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു ഈ കല്ലുകളില് നിന്നു മക്കളെ ഉളവാക്കുവാന് ദൈവത്തിന്നു കഴിയും എന്നു ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു പറയുന്നു.

7. Then sayde he vnto the people, yt wente out to be baptysed of him: Ye generacion of vipers, who hath certified you, that ye shal escape ye wrath to come?

8. ഇപ്പോള് തന്നേ വൃക്ഷങ്ങളുടെ ചുവട്ടിന്നു കോടാലി വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; നല്ല ഫലം കായ്ക്കാത്ത വൃക്ഷം എല്ലാം വെട്ടി തീയില് ഇട്ടുകളയുന്നു.

8. Take hede, brynge forth due frutes of repetauce, & begynne not to saye: We haue Abraha to or father. For I saye vnto you: God is able of these stones to rayse vp children vnto Abraham.

9. എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു പുരുഷാരം അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. The axe is put vnto the tre allready: so that euery tre which bryngeth not forth good frute, shalbe hewen downe, and cast in to the fyre.

10. അതിന്നു അവന് രണ്ടു വസ്ത്രമുള്ളവന് ഇല്ലാത്തവന്നു കൊടുക്കട്ടെ; ഭക്ഷണസാധനങ്ങള് ഉള്ളവനും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്യട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And the people axed him, and sayde: What shal we do then?

11. ചുങ്കക്കാരും സ്നാനം ഏല്പാന് വന്നുഗുരോ, ഞങ്ങള് എന്തുചെയ്യേണം എന്നു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

11. He answered, & sayde vnto the: He that hath two coates, let him parte wt him yt hath none: and he that hath meate, let him do likewyse.

12. നിങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതില് അധികം ഒന്നും പിരിക്കരുതു എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

12. The publicans came also, to be baptysed and sayde vnto him: Master, what shal we do?

13. പടജ്ജനവും അവനോടുഞങ്ങള് എന്തു ചെയ്യേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നുആരെയും ബലാല്ക്കാരം ചെയ്യാതെയും ചതിയായി ഒന്നും വാങ്ങാതെയും നിങ്ങളുടെ ശമ്പളം മതി എന്നു വെപ്പിന് എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. He sayde vnto them: Requyre nomore, then is appoynted you.

14. ജനം കാത്തു നിന്നു; അവന് ക്രിസ്തുവോ എന്നു എല്ലാവരുംഹൃദയത്തില് യോഹന്നാനെക്കുറിച്ചു വിചാരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

14. Then ye soudyours axed him likewyse, and sayde: What shal we do then? And he sayde vnto the: Do no man violence ner wronge, and be content with youre wages.

15. യോഹന്നാന് എല്ലാവരോടും ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുഞാന് നിങ്ങളെ വെള്ളംകൊണ്ടു സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കുന്നു; എന്നാല് എന്നിലും ബലവാനായവന് വരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ചെരിപ്പിന്റെ വാറു അഴിപ്പാന് ഞാന് യോഗ്യനല്ല; അവന് നിങ്ങളെ പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവുകൊണ്ടും തീകൊണ്ടും സ്നാനം കഴിപ്പിക്കും.

15. But whan the people were in a doute, & thought all in their hertes, whether he were Christ,

16. അവന്നു വീശുമുറം കയ്യില് ഉണ്ടു; അവന് കളത്തെ മുറ്റും വെടിപ്പാക്കി കോതമ്പു കളപ്പുരയില് കൂട്ടിവെക്കയും പതിര് കെടാത്ത തീയില് ഇട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളകയും ചെയ്യും.

16. Ihon answered, and sayde vnto the all: I baptyse you with water, but after me there cometh one stronger the I, whose shue lachet I am not worthy to lowse: he shal baptyse you with the holy goost and with fyre.

17. മറ്റു പലതും അവന് പ്രബോധിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടു ജനത്തോടു സുവിശേഷം അറിയിച്ചു.

17. Whose fanne is in his hande, and he shal pourge his floore, and shal gather ye wheate in to his barne, and shal burne the chaffe with vnquencheable fyre.

18. എന്നാല് ഇടപ്രഭുവായ ഹെരോദാവു സഹോദരന്റെ ഭാര്യ ഹെരോദ്യനിമിത്തവും ഹെരോദാവു ചെയ്ത സകലദോഷങ്ങള് നിമിത്തവും യോഹന്നാന് അവനെ ആക്ഷേപിക്കയാല്

18. And many other thynges more exorted he, & preached vnto the people.

19. അതെല്ലാം ചെയ്തതു കൂടാതെ അവനെ തടവില് ആക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.

19. But Herode the Tetrarcha (wha he was rebuked of him because of Herodias his brothers wife, and for all the euels that Herode dyd)

20. ജനം എല്ലാം സ്നാനം ഏലക്കുകയില് യേശുവും സ്നാനം ഏറ്റു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കുമ്പോള് സ്വര്ഗ്ഗം തുറന്നു,

20. besydes all this he layed Iho in preson.

21. പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവു ദേഹരൂപത്തില് പ്രാവു എന്നപോലെ അവന്റെമേല് ഇറങ്ങിവന്നു. നീ എന്റെ പ്രിയ പുത്രന് ; നിന്നില് ഞാന് പ്രസാദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു സ്വര്ഗ്ഗത്തില് നിന്നു ഒരു ശബ്ദവും ഉണ്ടായി.

21. And it fortuned whan all the people receaued baptyme, and whan Iesus also was baptysed and prayed, that heauen opened,

22. യേശുവിന്നു താന് പ്രവൃത്തി ആരംഭിക്കുമ്പോള് ഏകദേശം മുപ്പതു വയസ്സായിരുന്നു. അവന് യോസേഫിന്റെ മകന് എന്നു ജനം വിചാരിച്ചു;
