1. Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.

2. പൌലൊസ് പതിവു പോലെ അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു മൂന്നു ശബ്ബത്തില് തിരുവെഴുത്തുകളെ ആധാരമാക്കി അവരോടു വാദിച്ചു.

2. Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures,

3. explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and [saying,] 'This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ.'

4. അവരില് ചിലരും ഭക്തിയുള്ള യവനന്മാരില് ഒരു വലിയ കൂട്ടവും മാന്യസ്ത്രീകളില് അനേകരും വിശ്വസിച്ചു പൌലൊസിനോടും ശീലാസിനോടും ചേര്ന്നു.

4. And some of them were persuaded; and a great multitude of the devout Greeks, and not a few of the leading women, joined Paul and Silas.

5. യെഹൂദന്മാരോ അസൂയപൂണ്ടു, മിനക്കെട്ടുനടക്കുന്ന ചില ദുഷ്ടന്മാരെ ചേര്ത്തു പുരുഷാരത്തെ ഇളക്കി പട്ടണത്തില് കലഹം ഉണ്ടാക്കി യാസോന്റെ വീടു വളഞ്ഞു അവരെ ജനസമൂഹത്തില് കൊണ്ടുവരുവാന് ശ്രമിച്ചു.

5. But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

6. അവരെ കാണാഞ്ഞിട്ടു യാസോനെയും ചില സഹോദരന്മാരെയും നഗരാധിപന്മാരുടെ അടുക്കലേക്കു ഇഴെച്ചുകൊണ്ടുഭൂലോകത്തെ കലഹിപ്പിച്ചവര് ഇവിടെയും എത്തി;

6. But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, 'These who have turned the world upside down have come here too.

7. Jason has harbored them, and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king -- Jesus.'

8. And they troubled the crowd and the rulers of the city when they heard these things.

9. So when they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

10. സഹോദരന്മാര് ഉടനെ, രാത്രിയില് തന്നേ, പൌലൊസിനെയും ശീലാസിനെയും ബെരോവേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു. അവിടെ എത്തിയാറെ അവര് യെഹൂദന്മാരുടെ പള്ളിയില് പോയി.

10. Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11. അവര് തെസ്സലോനീക്കയിലുള്ളവരെക്കാള് ഉത്തമന്മാരായിരുന്നു. അവര് വചനം പൂര്ണ്ണജാഗ്രതയോടെ കൈക്കൊണ്ടതല്ലാതെ അതു അങ്ങനെ തന്നെയോ എന്നു ദിനംപ്രതി തിരുവെഴുത്തുകളെ പരിശോധിച്ചു പോന്നു.

11. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily [to find out] whether these things were so.

12. അവരില് പലരും മാന്യരായ യവനസ്ത്രീകളിലും പുരുഷന്മാരിലും അനേകരും വിശ്വസിച്ചു.

12. Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as men.

13. പൌലൊസ് ബെരോവയിലും ദൈവവചനം അറിയച്ചതു തെസ്സലൊനീക്കയിലെ യെഹൂദന്മാര് അറിഞ്ഞു അവിടെയും വന്നു പുരുഷാരത്തെ ഇളക്കി ഭ്രമിപ്പിച്ചു.

13. But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there also and stirred up the crowds.

14. ഉടനെ സഹോദരന്മാര് പൌലൊസിനെ സമുദ്രതീരത്തേക്കു പറഞ്ഞയച്ചു; ശീലാസും തിമൊഥെയോസും അവിടെത്തന്നേ പാര്ത്തു.

14. Then immediately the brethren sent Paul away, to go to the sea; but both Silas and Timothy remained there.

15. പൌലൊസിനോടുകൂടെ വഴിത്തുണ പോയവര് അവനെ അഥേനയോളം കൊണ്ടുപോയി; ശീലാസും തിമൊഥെയോസും കഴിയുന്ന വേഗത്തില് തന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരേണം എന്നുള്ള കല്പന വാങ്ങി മടങ്ങിപ്പോന്നു.

15. So those who conducted Paul brought him to Athens; and receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him with all speed, they departed.

16. അഥേനയില് പൌലൊസ് അവര്ക്കായി കാത്തിരിക്കുമ്പോള് നഗരത്തില് ബിംബങ്ങള് നിറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു മനസ്സിന്നു ചൂടുപിടിച്ചു.

16. Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was provoked within him when he saw that the city was given over to idols.

17. അവന് പള്ളിയില്വെച്ചു യെഹൂദന്മാരോടും ദൈവഭക്തന്മാരോടും ചന്ത സ്ഥലത്തു ദിവസേന കണ്ടവരോടും സംഭാഷിച്ചുപോന്നു.

17. Therefore he reasoned in the synagogue with the Jews and with the [Gentile] worshipers, and in the marketplace daily with those who happened to be there.

18. എപ്പിക്കൂര്യ്യരും സ്തോയിക്കരും ആയ തത്വജ്ഞാനികളില് ചിലര് അവനോടു വാദിച്ചുഈ വിടുവായന് എന്തു പറവാന് പോകുന്നു എന്നു ചിലരും അവന് യേശുവിനെയും പുനരുത്ഥാനത്തെയും പ്രസംഗിക്ക കൊണ്ടുഇവന് അന്യദേവതകളെ ഘോഷിക്കുന്നവന് എന്നു തോന്നുന്നു മറ്റു ചിലരും പറഞ്ഞു

18. Then certain Epicurean and Stoic philosophers encountered him. And some said, 'What does this babbler want to say?' Others said, 'He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods,' because he preached to them Jesus and the resurrection.

19. പിന്നെ അവനെ പിടിച്ചു അരയോപഗക്കുന്നിന്മേല് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നുനീ പ്രസ്താവിക്കുന്ന ഈ നവീനോപദേശം ഇന്നതു എന്നു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു അറിയാമോ?

19. And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, 'May we know what this new doctrine [is] of which you speak?

20. നീ ചില അപൂര്വങ്ങളെ ഞങ്ങളുടെ ചെവിയില് കടത്തുന്നുവല്ലോ; അതു എന്തു എന്നു അറിവാന് ഞങ്ങള് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

20. 'For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean.'

21. എന്നാല് അഥേനര് ഒക്കെയും അവിടെ വന്നു പാര്ക്കുംന്ന പരദേശികളും വല്ല പുതുമയും പറകയോ കേള്ക്കയോ ചെയ്വാനല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊന്നിന്നും അവസരമുള്ളവരല്ല.

21. For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing.

22. പൌലൊസ് അരയോപഗമദ്ധ്യേ നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു പറഞ്ഞതു. അഥേനപുരുഷന്മാരേ, നിങ്ങള് എല്ലാറ്റിലും അതിഭക്തന്മാര് എന്നു ഞാന് കാണുന്നു.

22. Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, 'Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious;

23. ഞാന് ചുറ്റിനടന്നു നിങ്ങളുടെ പൂജാസ്ഥാനങ്ങളെ നോക്കുമ്പോള് “അജ്ഞാത ദേവന്നു” എന്നു എഴുത്തുള്ള ഒരു വേദിക്കല്ലു കണ്ടു; എന്നാല് നിങ്ങള് അറിയാതെ പൂജിക്കുന്നതു തന്നേ ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടു അറിയിക്കുന്നു.

23. 'for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you:

24. 'God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.

25. കൈപ്പണിയായ ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളില് വാസം ചെയ്യുന്നില്ല. താന് എല്ലാവര്ക്കും ജീവനും ശ്വാസവും സകലവും കൊടുക്കുന്നവന് ആകയാല് വല്ലതിന്നും മുട്ടുള്ളവന് എന്നപോലെ മാനുഷ്യകൈകളാല് ശുശ്രൂഷ ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നില്ല.

25. Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.

27. 'so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us;

28. അവനിലല്ലോ നാം ജീവിക്കയും ചരിക്കയും ഇരിക്കയും ചെയ്യുന്നത്. അങ്ങനെ നിങ്ങളുടെ കവിവരന്മാരിലും ചിലര് “നാം അവന്റെ സന്താനമല്ലോ” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.

28. for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also His offspring.'

29. 'Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man's devising.

30. 'Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,

32. And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked, while others said, 'We will hear you again on this [matter.']

33. So Paul departed from among them.

34. ചില പുരുഷന്മാര് അവനോടു ചേര്ന്നു വിശ്വസിച്ചു; അവരില് അരയോപഗസ്ഥാനിയായ ദിയൊനുസ്യോസും ദമരീസ് എന്നു പേരുള്ളോരു സ്ത്രീയും മറ്റു ചിലരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

34. However, some men joined him and believed, among them Dionysius the Areopagite, a woman named Damaris, and others with them.
