1. യോശുവയുടെ മരണശേഷം യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ഞങ്ങളില് ആരാകുന്നു കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് ആദ്യം പുറപ്പെടേണ്ടതു എന്നു യഹോവയോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

1. After the death of Joshua, the Israelites inquired of the LORD, Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them?

2. യെഹൂദാ പുറപ്പെടട്ടെ; ഞാന് ദേശം അവന്റെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യഹോവ കല്പിച്ചു.

2. The LORD said, Judah shall go up. I hereby give the land into his hand.

3. യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയോനോടുഎന്റെ അവകാശദേശത്തു കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്വാന് നീ എന്നോടുകൂടെ പോരേണം; നിന്റെ അവകാശദേശത്തു നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഞാനും വരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു ശിമെയോന് അവനോടുകൂടെ പോയി.

3. Judah said to his brother Simeon, Come up with me into the territory allotted to me, that we may fight against the Canaanites; then I too will go with you into the territory allotted to you. So Simeon went with him.

4. അങ്ങനെ യെഹൂദാ പുറപ്പെട്ടു; യഹോവ കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും അവരുടെ കയ്യില് ഏല്പിച്ചു; അവര് ബേസെക്കില്വെച്ചു അവരില് പതിനായിരംപോരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

4. Then Judah went up and the LORD gave the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand; and they defeated ten thousand of them at Bezek.

5. ബേസെക്കില്വെച്ചു അവര് അദോനി-ബേസെക്കിനെ കണ്ടു, അവനോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു കനാന്യരെയും പെരിസ്യരെയും സംഹരിച്ചു.

5. They came upon Adoni-bezek at Bezek, and fought against him, and defeated the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6. എന്നാല് അദോനീ-ബേസെക് ഔടിപ്പോയി; അവര് അവനെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു പിടിച്ചു അവന്റെ കൈകാലുകളുടെ പെരുവിരല് മുറിച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

6. Adoni-bezek fled; but they pursued him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and big toes.

7. Adoni-bezek said, Seventy kings with their thumbs and big toes cut off used to pick up scraps under my table; as I have done, so God has paid me back. They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.

8. യെഹൂദാമക്കള് യെരൂശലേമിന്റെ നേരെ യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു അതിനെ പിടിച്ചു വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് വെട്ടി നഗരം തീയിട്ടു ചുട്ടുകളഞ്ഞു.

8. Then the people of Judah fought against Jerusalem and took it. They put it to the sword and set the city on fire.

9. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം യെഹൂദാമക്കള് മലനാട്ടിലും തെക്കെ ദേശത്തിലും താഴ്വീതിയിലും പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്വാന് പോയി.

9. Afterward the people of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, in the Negeb, and in the lowland.

10. യെഹൂദാ ഹെബ്രോനില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരുടെ നേരെയും ചെന്നു; ഹെബ്രോന്നു പണ്ടു കിര്യ്യത്ത്-അബ്ബാ എന്നു പേര്. അവര് ശേശായി, അഹിമാന് , തല്മായി എന്നവരെ സംഹരിച്ചു.

10. Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron (the name of Hebron was formerly Kiriath-arba); and they defeated Sheshai and Ahiman and Talmai.

11. അവിടെ നിന്നു അവര് ദെബീര് നിവാസികളുടെ നേരെ ചെന്നു; ദെബീരിന്നു പണ്ടു കിര്യ്യത്ത്--സേഫെര് എന്നു പേര്.

11. From there they went against the inhabitants of Debir (the name of Debir was formerly Kiriath-sepher).

12. അപ്പോള് കാലേബ്കിര്യ്യത്ത്--സേഫെര് ജയിച്ചടക്കുന്നവന്നു ഞാന് എന്റെ മകള് അക്സയെ ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. Then Caleb said, Whoever attacks Kiriath-sepher and takes it, I will give him my daughter Achsah as wife.

13. കാലേബിന്റെ അനുജനായ കെനസിന്റെ മകന് ഒത്നീയേല് അതു പിടിച്ചു; അവന് തന്റെ മകള് അക്സയെ അവന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുത്തു.

13. And Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb's younger brother, took it; and he gave him his daughter Achsah as wife.

14. അവള് വന്നപ്പോള് തന്റെ അപ്പനോടു ഒരു വയല് ചോദിപ്പാന് അവനെ ഉത്സാഹിപ്പിച്ചു; അവള് കഴുതപ്പുറത്തുനിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിയപ്പോള് കാലേബ് അവളോടുനിനക്കു എന്തുവേണം എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

14. When she came to him, she urged him to ask her father for a field. As she dismounted from her donkey, Caleb said to her, What do you wish?

15. അവള് അവനോടു ഒരു അനുഗ്രഹം എനിക്കു തരേണമേ; നീ എന്നെ തെക്കന് നാട്ടിലേക്കല്ലോ കൊടുത്തതു; നീരുറവുകളും എനിക്കു തരേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു; കാലേബ് അവള്ക്കു മലയിലും താഴ്വരയിലും നീരുറവുകള് കൊടുത്തു.

15. She said to him, Give me a present; since you have set me in the land of the Negeb, give me also Gulloth-mayim. So Caleb gave her Upper Gulloth and Lower Gulloth.

16. മോശെയുടെ അളിയനായ കേന്യന്റെ മക്കള് യെഹൂദാമക്കളോടുകൂടെ ഈന്തപ്പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു അരാദിന്നു തെക്കുള്ള യെഹൂദാ മരുഭൂമിയിലേക്കു പോയി; അവര് ചെന്നു ജനത്തോടുകൂടെ പാര്ത്തു.

16. The descendants of Hobab the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up with the people of Judah from the city of palms into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the Negeb near Arad. Then they went and settled with the Amalekites.

17. പിന്നെ യെഹൂദാ തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ ശിമെയോനോടു കൂടെ പോയി, അവര് സെഫാത്തില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ വെട്ടി അതിനെ നിര്മ്മൂലമാക്കി; ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു ഹോര്മ്മ എന്നു പേര് ഇട്ടു.

17. Judah went with his brother Simeon, and they defeated the Canaanites who inhabited Zephath, and devoted it to destruction. So the city was called Hormah.

18. യെഹൂദാ ഗസ്സയും അതിന്റെ അതിര്നാടും അസ്കലോനും അതിന്റെ അതിര്നാടും എക്രോനും അതിന്റെ അതിര്നാടും പിടിച്ചു.

18. Judah took Gaza with its territory, Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory.

19. യഹോവ യെഹൂദയോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് മലനാടു കൈവശമാക്കി; എന്നാല് താഴ്വരയിലെ നിവാസികള്ക്കു ഇരിമ്പുരഥങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളവാന് കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല.

19. The LORD was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, but could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain, because they had chariots of iron.

20. മോശെ കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ അവര് കാലേബിന്നു ഹെബ്രോന് കൊടുത്തു; അവന് അവിടെനിന്നു അനാക്കിന്റെ മൂന്നു പുത്രന്മാരെയും നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞു.

20. Hebron was given to Caleb, as Moses had said; and he drove out from it the three sons of Anak.

21. ബെന്യാമീന് മക്കള് യെരൂശലേമില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന യെബൂസ്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; യെബൂസ്യര് ഇന്നുവരെ ബെന്യാമീന് മക്കളോടു കൂടെ യെരൂശലേമില് പാര്ത്തുവരുന്നു.

21. But the Benjaminites did not drive out the Jebusites who lived in Jerusalem; so the Jebusites have lived in Jerusalem among the Benjaminites to this day.

22. യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹം ബേഥേലിലേക്കു കയറിച്ചെന്നു; യഹോവ അവരോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

22. The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel; and the LORD was with them.

23. യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹം ബേഥേല് ഒറ്റുനോക്കുവാന് ആളയച്ചു; ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു മുമ്പെ ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരായിരുന്നു.

23. The house of Joseph sent out spies to Bethel (the name of the city was formerly Luz).

24. പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു ഇറങ്ങിവരുന്ന ഒരുത്തനെ ഒറ്റുകാര് കണ്ടു അവനോടുപട്ടണത്തില് കടപ്പാന് ഒരു വഴി കാണിച്ചു തരേണം; എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നോടു ദയചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

24. When the spies saw a man coming out of the city, they said to him, Show us the way into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.

25. അവന് പട്ടണത്തില് കടപ്പാനുള്ള വഴി അവര്ക്കും കാണിച്ചുകൊടുത്തു; അവര് പട്ടണത്തെ വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല് വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു, ആ മനുഷ്യനെയും അവന്റെ സകലകുടുംബത്തെയും വിട്ടയച്ചു;

25. So he showed them the way into the city; and they put the city to the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.

26. അവന് ഹിത്യരുടെ ദേശത്തു ചെന്നു ഒരു പട്ടണം പണിതു അതിന്നു ലൂസ് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു; അതിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ അതു തന്നേ പേര്.

26. So the man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city, and named it Luz; that is its name to this day.

27. മനശ്ശെ ബേത്ത്--ശെയാനിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും താനാക്കിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും ദോരിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും യിബ്ളെയാമിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും മെഗിദ്ദോവിലും അതിന്റെ ഗ്രാമങ്ങളിലും പാര്ത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല. കനാന്യര്ക്കും ആ ദേശത്തു തന്നേ പാര്പ്പാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം സാധിച്ചു.

27. Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages; but the Canaanites continued to live in that land.

28. എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേലിന്നു ബലം കൂടിയപ്പോള് അവര് കന്യാന്യരെ മുഴുവനും നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ അവരെക്കൊണ്ടു ഊഴിയവേല ചെയ്യിച്ചു.

28. When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not in fact drive them out.

29. എഫ്രയീം ഗേസെരില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന കനാന്യരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; കനാന്യര് ഗേസെരില് അവരുടെ ഇടയില് പാര്ത്തു.

29. And Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer; but the Canaanites lived among them in Gezer.

30. സെബൂലൂന് കിത്രോനിലും നഹലോലിലും പാര്ത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല; കനാന്യര് ഊഴിയവേലക്കാരായിത്തീര്ന്നു അവരുടെ ഇടയില് പാര്ത്തു.

30. Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.

31. ആശേര് അക്കോവിലും സീദോനിലും അഹ്ളാബിലും അക്സീബിലും ഹെല്ബയിലും അഫീക്കിലും രെഹോബിലും പാര്ത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളഞ്ഞില്ല.

31. Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon, or of Ahlab, or of Achzib, or of Helbah, or of Aphik, or of Rehob;

32. അവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ ആശേര്യ്യര് ദേശനിവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെ ഇടയില് പാര്ത്തു.

32. but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.

33. നഫ്താലി ബേത്ത്--ശേമെശിലും ബേത്ത്--അനാത്തിലും പാര്ത്തിരുന്നവരെ നീക്കിക്കളയാതെ ദേശനിവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെ ഇടയില് പാര്ത്തു; എന്നാല് ബേത്ത്--ശേമെശിലെയും ബേത്ത്--അനാത്തിലെയും നിവാസികള് അവര്ക്കും ഊഴിയവേലക്കാരായിത്തിര്ന്നു.

33. Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to forced labor for them.

34. അമോര്യ്യര് ദാന് മക്കളെ തിക്കിത്തള്ളി മലനാട്ടില് കയറ്റി; താഴ്വരയിലേക്കു ഇറങ്ങുവാന് അവരെ സമ്മതിച്ചതുമില്ല.

34. The Amorites pressed the Danites back into the hill country; they did not allow them to come down to the plain.

35. അങ്ങനെ അമേര്യ്യര്ക്കും ഹര്ഹേരെസിലും അയ്യാലോനിലും ശാല്ബീമിലും പാര്പ്പാനുള്ള താല്പര്യം സാധിച്ചു. എന്നാല് യോസേഫിന്റെ ഗൃഹത്തിന്നു ബലംകൂടിയപ്പോള് അവരെ ഊഴിയ വേലക്കാരാക്കിത്തീര്ത്തു.

35. The Amorites continued to live in Har-heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, but the hand of the house of Joseph rested heavily on them, and they became subject to forced labor.

36. അമോര്യ്യരുടെ അതിര് അക്രബ്ബിംകയറ്റവും സേലയും മുതല് പിന്നെയും മേലോട്ടുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

36. The border of the Amorites ran from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.
