1. ശമൂവേല്ഒന്നാം പുസ്തകം

1. And there was a certain man, of Ramathaim-zuphi, of the hill country of Ephraim, whose name, was Elkanah, son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephraimite;

2. എഫ്രയീം മലനാട്ടിലെ രാമാഥയീം-സോഫീമില് എല്ക്കാനാ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു പുരുഷന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് എലീഹൂവിന്റെ മകനായ യെരോഹാമിന്റെ മകന് ആയിരുന്നു; എലീഹൂ എഫ്രയീമ്യനായ സൂഫിന്റെ മകനായ തോഹൂവിന്റെ മകന് ആയിരുന്നു.

2. and, he, had two wives, the name of the one, Hannah, and, the name of the other, Peninnah, and Peninnah had children, but, Hannah, had no children.

3. എല്ക്കാനെക്കു രണ്ടു ഭാര്യമാര് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഒരുത്തിക്കു ഹന്നാ എന്നും മറ്റേവള്ക്കു പെനിന്നാ എന്നും പേര്; പെനിന്നെക്കു മക്കള് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; ഹന്നെക്കോ മക്കള് ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.

3. So then that man went up, out of his city, from time to time, to worship and to sacrifice unto Yahweh of hosts, in Shiloh, and, there, were the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests unto Yahweh.

4. അവന് ശീലോവില് സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവയെ നമസ്കരിപ്പാനും അവന്നു യാഗം കഴിപ്പാനും തന്റെ പട്ടണത്തില്നിന്നു ആണ്ടുതോറും ശീലോവിലേക്കു പോക പതിവായിരുന്നു; ഏലിയുടെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായി യഹോവേക്കു പുരോഹിതന്മാരായിരുന്ന ഹൊഫ്നിയും ഫീനെഹാസും അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

4. And, when the day came for Elkanah to sacrifice, he used to give, to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions;

5. എല്ക്കാനാ യാഗം കഴിക്കുമ്പോള് ഒക്കെയും തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ പെനിന്നെക്കും അവളുടെ സകലപുത്രന്മാര്ക്കും പുത്രിമാര്ക്കും ഔഹരികൊടുക്കും.

5. and, unto Hannah, used he to give one portion, howbeit, Hannah, he loved, although, Yahweh, had restrained her from having children.

6. ഹന്നെക്കോ അവന് ഹന്നയെ സ്നേഹിക്കകൊണ്ടു ഇരട്ടി ഔഹരി കൊടുക്കും. എന്നാല് യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗര്ഭം അടെച്ചിരിന്നു.

6. And her rival used even to cause her great vexation, for the sake of provoking her, because Yahweh had restrained her from having children.

7. യഹോവ അവളുടെ ഗര്ഭം അടെച്ചിരുന്നതിനാല് അവളുടെ പ്രതിയോഗി അവളെ വ്യസനിപ്പിപ്പാന് തക്കവണ്ണം വളരെ മുഷിപ്പിച്ചു.

7. And, thus, used she to do, year by year, whenever she went up to the house of Yahweh, thus, used she to vex her, and she wept, and would not eat.

8. അവള് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു പോകുന്ന സമയത്തൊക്കെയും ആണ്ടുതോറും അവള് അങ്ങനെ ചെയ്തുപോന്നു. അവള് അവളെ മുഷിപ്പിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവള് കരഞ്ഞു പട്ടിണി കിടന്നു.

8. So Elkanah her husband said to her Hannah! wherefore shouldst thou weep? and wherefore wilt thou not eat? and wherefore should thy heart be sad? Am, I, not better to thee, than ten sons?

9. അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവായ എല്ക്കാനാ അവളോടുഹന്നേ, നീ എന്തിന്നു കരയുന്നു? എന്തിന്നു പട്ടിണികിടക്കുന്നു? നീ വ്യസനിക്കുന്നതു എന്തു? ഞാന് നിനക്കു പത്തു പുത്രന്മാരെക്കാള് നന്നല്ലയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And Hannah rose up, after she had eaten in Shiloh, and after she had drunk, and, Eli the priest, was sitting upon his chair, by the door-post of the temple of Yahweh;

10. അവര് ശീലോവില്വെച്ചു തിന്നുകയും കുടിക്കയും ചെയ്തശേഷം ഹന്നാ എഴുന്നേറ്റു പോയി. പുരോഹിതനായ ഏലി യഹോവയുടെ മന്ദിരത്തിന്റെ വാതില്ക്കല് ആസനത്തില് ഇരിക്കയായിരുന്നു.

10. and, she being in bitterness of soul, prayed unto Yahweh, and, wept sore.

11. അവള് മനോവ്യസനത്തോടെ യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു വളരെ കരഞ്ഞു.

11. And she vowed a vow, and said Yahweh of hosts! If thou wilt, look, upon the humiliation of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man-child, then will I give him unto Yahweh, all the days of his life, and no, razor, shall come upon his head.

12. അവള് ഒരു നേര്ച്ചനേര്ന്നു; സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവേ, അടിയന്റെ സങ്കടം നോക്കി അടിയനെ ഔര്ക്കയും അടിയനെ മറക്കാതെ ഒരു പുരുഷസന്താനത്തെ നലകുകയും ചെയ്താല് അടിയന് അവനെ അവന്റെ ജീവപര്യന്തം യഹോവേക്കു കൊടുക്കും; അവന്റെ തലയില് ക്ഷൌരക്കത്തി തൊടുകയുമില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. And so it was, as she continued praying before Yahweh, that Eli was watching her mouth.

13. ഇങ്ങനെ അവള് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് ഏലി അവളുടെ വായെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചു നോക്കി.

13. But as for, Hannah, she, was speaking in her heart, only her lips, were moving, but, her voice, could not be heard, so Eli thought she had been drunken.

14. ഹന്നാ ഹൃദയംകൊണ്ടു സംസാരിച്ചതിനാല് അവളുടെ അധരം അനങ്ങിയതല്ലാതെ ശബ്ദം കേള്പ്പാനില്ലായിരുന്നു; ആകയാല് അവള്ക്കു ലഹരിപിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഏലിക്കു തോന്നിപ്പോയി.

14. And Eli said unto her, How long, wilt thou be, drunken? Put away thy wine from thee.

15. ഏലി അവളോടുനീ എത്രത്തോളം ലഹരി പിടിച്ചിരിക്കും? നിന്റെ വീഞ്ഞു ഇറങ്ങട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And Hannah responded and said Nay! my lord; A woman depressed in spirit, am I: neither wine nor strong drink, have I drunk, but I poured out my soul, before Yahweh.

16. അതിന്നു ഹന്നാ ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതുഅങ്ങനെയല്ല, യജമാനനേ; ഞാന് മനോവ്യസനമുള്ളൊരു സ്ത്രീ; ഞാന് വീഞ്ഞോ മദ്യമോ കുടിച്ചിട്ടില്ല; യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് എന്റെ ഹൃദയം പകരുകയത്രേ ചെയ്തതു.

16. Do not count thy handmaid for an abandoned woman, for, out of the abundance of my grief and my vexation, have I spoken, hitherto.

17. അടിയനെ ഒരു നീചസ്ത്രീയായി വിചാരിക്കരുതേ; അടിയന് സങ്കടത്തിന്റെയും വ്യസനത്തിന്റെയും ആധിക്യംകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു സംസാരിച്ചതു.

17. Then responded Eli, and said Go and prosper! And the, God of Israel, grant thy petition which thou hast asked of him!

18. അതിന്നു ഏലിസമാധാനത്തോടെ പൊയ്ക്കൊള്ക; യിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തോടു നീ കഴിച്ച അപേക്ഷ അവന് നിനക്കു നലകുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

18. And she said: Let thy serving-woman find favour, in thine eyes. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and, her countenance, was sad no longer.

19. അടിയന്നു തൃക്കണ്ണില് കൃപ ലഭിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു സ്ത്രീ തന്റെ വഴിക്കു പോയി ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു; അവളുടെ മുഖം പിന്നെ വാടിയതുമില്ല.

19. And they rose up early in the morning, and worshipped before Yahweh, and returned, and entered their own house, in Ramah, and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife, and Yahweh remembered her.

20. അനന്തരം അവര് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് നമസ്കരിച്ചശേഷം രാമയില് തങ്ങളുടെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു പോയി. എന്നാല് എല്ക്കാനാ തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ ഹന്നയെ പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു; യഹോവ അവളെ ഔര്ത്തു.

20. And so it was, when the days had come round during which Hannah was with child, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, Because, of Yahweh, I asked him.

21. ഒരു ആണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു ഹന്നാ ഗര്ഭംധരിച്ചു ഒരു മകനെ പ്രസവിച്ചു; ഞാന് അവനെ യഹോവയോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചുവാങ്ങി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന്നു ശമൂവേല് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

21. And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up, to offer unto Yahweh the yearly sacrifice, and each his own vow.

22. പിന്നെ എല്ക്കാനാ എന്ന പുരുഷനും അവന്റെ കുടുംബമൊക്കെയും യഹോവേക്കു വര്ഷാന്തരയാഗവും നേര്ച്ചയും കഴിപ്പാന് പോയി.

22. But, Hannah, went not up, for she said to her husband Not till the boy is weaned, then will I take him, and he shall appear before Yahweh, and abide there evermore.

23. എന്നാല് ഹന്നാ കൂടെപോയില്ല; അവള് ഭര്ത്താവിനോടുശിശുവിന്റെ മുലകുടി മാറട്ടെ; പിന്നെ അവന് യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയില് ചെന്നു അവിടെ എന്നു പാര്ക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് അവനെയും കൊണ്ടുപോരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

23. And Elkanah her husband said to her Do what is good in thine own eyes, tarry until thou have weaned him, only may Yahweh establish his word! So the woman tarried, and nursed her son, until she weaned him.

24. അവളുടെ ഭര്ത്താവായ എല്ക്കാനാ അവളോടുനിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടംപോലെയാകട്ടെ; അവന്റെ മുലകുടിമാറുംവരെ താമസിക്ക; യഹോവ തന്റെ വചനം നിവര്ത്തിക്കുമാറാകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവള് വീട്ടില് താമസിച്ചു മുലകുടി മാറുംവരെ മകന്നു മുലകൊടുത്തു.

24. Then took she him up with her, when she had weaned him, with a bullock of three years old, and one ephah of meal, and a skin of wine, and took him to the house of Yahweh, at Shiloh, the boy yet being young.

25. അവന്നു മുലകുടി മാറിയശേഷം അവള് മൂന്നു വയസ്സു പ്രായമുള്ള ഒരു കാളയും ഒരു പറമാവും ഒരു തുരുത്തി വീഞ്ഞുമായി അവനെ ശീലോവില് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നുബാലനോ ചെറുപ്പമായിരുന്നു.

25. So they slew the bullock, and took the boy in, unto Eli.

26. അവര് കാളയെ അറുത്തിട്ടു ബാലനെ ഏലിയുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.

26. And she said Pardon, my lord! By the life of thy soul, my lord, I, am the woman who was standing near thee here, praying unto Yahweh:

27. അവള് അവനോടു പറഞ്ഞതുയജമാനനേ; യജമാനനാണ, യഹോവയോടു പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു ഇവിടെ സമീപത്തു നിന്നിരുന്ന സ്ത്രീ ഞാന് ആകുന്നു.

27. For this boy, I prayed, And Yahweh hath given me my petition which I asked of him.

28. ഈ ബാലന്നായിട്ടു ഞാന് പ്രാര്ത്ഥിച്ചു; ഞാന് യഹോവയോടു കഴിച്ച അപേക്ഷ യഹോവ എനിക്കു നല്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.

28. Hence, I also, have loaned him unto Yahweh, all the days that he liveth. He, is lent unto Yahweh. And he bowed down there, unto Yahweh.
