1. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു അതിനെ ഏബെന് -ഏസെരില്നിന്നു അസ്തോദിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

1. Now the Philistines had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Ebenezer unto Ashdod.

2. ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എടുത്തു ദാഗോന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു ദാഗോന്റെ അരികെ വെച്ചു.

2. And the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

3. പിറ്റെന്നാള് രാവിലെ അസ്തോദ്യര് എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് ദാഗോന് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില് കവിണ്ണുവീണു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു. അവര് ദാഗോനെ എടുത്തു വീണ്ടും അവന്റെ സ്ഥാനത്തു നിര്ത്തി.

3. And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

4. പിറ്റെന്നാള് രാവിലെ അവര് എഴുന്നേറ്റപ്പോള് ദാഗോന് യഹോവയുടെ പെട്ടകത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പില് കവിണ്ണുവീണു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു. ദാഗോന്റെ തലയും അവന്റെ കൈപ്പത്തികളും ഉമ്മരപ്പടിമേല് മുറിഞ്ഞുകിടന്നു; ദാഗോന്റെ ഉടല്മാത്രം ശേഷിച്ചിരുന്നു.

4. And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands [lay] cut off upon the threshold; only [the stump of] Dagon was left to him.

5. അതുകൊണ്ടു ദാഗോന്റെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരും ദാഗോന്റെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തില് കടക്കുന്നവരും അസ്തോദില് ദാഗോന്റെ ഉമ്മരപ്പടിമേല് ഇന്നും ചവിട്ടുമാറില്ല.

5. Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, unto this day.

6. എന്നാല് യഹോവയുടെ കൈ അസ്തോദ്യരുടെമേല് ഭാരമായിരുന്നു; അവന് അവരെ ശൂന്യമാക്കി അസ്തോദിലും അതിന്റെ അതിരുകളിലും ഉള്ളവരെ മൂലരോഗത്താല് ബാധിച്ചു.

6. But the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with tumors, even Ashdod and the borders thereof.

7. അങ്ങനെ ഭവിച്ചതു അസ്തോദ്യര് കണ്ടിട്ടുയിസ്രായേലിന്റെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കല് ഇരിക്കരുതു; അവന്റെ കൈ നമ്മുടെമേലും നമ്മുടെ ദേവനായ ദാഗോന്റെ മേലും കഠിനമായിരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us; for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

8. അവര് ആളയച്ചു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സകലപ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടിയിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം സംബന്ധിച്ചു നാം എന്തു ചെയ്യേണ്ടു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അതിന്നു അവര്യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം ഗത്തിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുപേകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

8. They sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel [thither].

9. അവര് അതു കൊണ്ടുചെന്നശേഷം ഏറ്റവും വലിയോരു പരിഭ്രമം ഉണ്ടാകത്തക്കവണ്ണം യഹോവയുടെ കൈ ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നും വിരോധമായ്തീര്ന്നു; അവന് പട്ടണക്കാരെ ആബാലവൃദ്ധം ബാധിച്ചു; അവര്ക്കും മൂലരോഗം തുടങ്ങി.

9. And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of Jehovah was against the city with a very great discomfiture: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great; and tumors brake out upon them.

10. അതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എക്രോനിലേക്കു കൊടുത്തയച്ചു. ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം എക്രോനില് എത്തിയപ്പോള് എക്രോന്യര്നമ്മെയും നമുക്കുള്ളവരെയും കൊല്ലുവാന് അവര് യിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മുടെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു നിലവിളിച്ചു.

10. So they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

11. അവര് ആളയച്ചു ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ സകല പ്രഭുക്കന്മാരെയും കൂട്ടിവരുത്തിയിസ്രായേല്യരുടെ ദൈവത്തിന്റെ പെട്ടകം നമ്മെയും നമ്മുടെ ജനത്തെയും കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അതിനെ വിട്ടയച്ചുകളയേണം; അതു വീണ്ടും അതിന്റെ സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോകട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ആ പട്ടണത്തിലെങ്ങും മരണകരമായ പരിഭ്രമം ഉണ്ടായി; ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കൈ അവിടെയും അതിഭാരമായിരുന്നു.

11. They sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, that is slay us not, and our people. For there was a deadly discomfiture throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

12. മരിക്കാതിരുന്നവര് മൂലരോഗത്താല് ബാധിതരായി; പട്ടണത്തിലെ നിലവിളി ആകാശത്തില് കയറി.

12. And the men that died not were smitten with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.
