1. അനന്തരം അബ്രാഹാം അവിടെനിന്നു തെക്കെ ദേശത്തേക്കു യാത്ര പുറപ്പെട്ടു കാദേശിന്നും സൂരിന്നും മദ്ധ്യേ കുടിയിരുന്നു ഗെരാരില് പരദേശിയായി പാര്ത്തു.

1. And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur and sojourned in Gerar.

2. അബ്രാഹാം തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറയെക്കുറിച്ചുഅവള് എന്റെ പെങ്ങള് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഗെരാര് രാജാവായ അബീമേലെക് ആളയച്ചു സാറയെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി.

2. And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, 'She is my sister.' And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

3. എന്നാല് രാത്രിയില് ദൈവം സ്വപ്നത്തില് അബീമേലെക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു അവനോടുനീ എടുത്ത സ്ത്രീയുടെ നിമിത്തം നീ മരിക്കും; അവള് ഒരു പുരുഷന്റെ ഭാര്യ എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

3. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, 'Behold, thou art but a dead man, because of the woman whom thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.'

4. എന്നാല് അബീമേലെക് അവളുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നിരുന്നില്ലആകയാല് അവന് കര്ത്താവേ, നീതിയുള്ള ജാതിയെയും നീ കൊല്ലുമോ?

4. But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, 'Lord, wilt Thou slay also a righteous nation?

5. ഇവള് എന്റെ പെങ്ങളാകുന്നു എന്നു അവന് എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞുവല്ലോ. അവന് എന്റെ ആങ്ങള എന്നു അവളും പറഞ്ഞു. ഹൃദയപരമാര്ത്ഥതയോടും കയ്യുടെ നിര്മ്മലതയോടും കൂടെ ഞാന് ഇതു ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Said he not unto me, `She is my sister'? And she, even she herself said, `He is my brother.' In the integrity of my heart and innocency of my hands have I done this.'

6. അതിന്നു ദൈവം സ്വപ്നത്തില് അവനോടുനീ ഇതു ഹൃദയപരമാര്ത്ഥതയോടെ ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് അറിയുന്നു; നീ എന്നോടു പാപം ചെയ്യാതിരിപ്പാന് ഞാന് നിന്നെ തടുത്തു; അതുകൊണ്ടാകുന്നു അവളെ തൊടുവാന് ഞാന് നിന്നെ സമ്മതിക്കാതിരുന്നതു.

6. And God said unto him in a dream, 'Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart, for I also withheld thee from sinning against Me. Therefore I suffered thee not to touch her.

7. ഇപ്പോള് ആ പുരുഷന്നു അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെ മടക്കിക്കൊടുക്ക; അവന് ഒരു പ്രവാചകന് ആകുന്നു; നീ ജീവനോടിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് നിനക്കുവേണ്ടി പ്രാര്ത്ഥിക്കട്ടെ. അവളെ മടക്കിക്കൊടുക്കാതിരുന്നാലോ, നീയും നിനക്കുള്ളവരൊക്കെയും മരിക്കേണ്ടിവരും എന്നു അറിഞ്ഞുകൊള്ക എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

7. Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live. And if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou and all that are thine.'

8. അബീമേലെക് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു തന്റെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരെയും വരുത്തി ഈ കാര്യം ഒക്കെയും അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു; അവര് ഏറ്റവും ഭയപ്പെട്ടു.

8. Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were sore afraid.

9. അബീമേലെക് അബ്രാഹാമിനെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചു അവനോടുനീ ഞങ്ങളോടു ചെയ്തതു എന്തു? നീ എന്റെ മേലും എന്റെ രാജ്യത്തിന്മേലും ഒരു മഹാപാപം വരുത്തുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ഞാന് നിന്നോടു എന്തു ദോഷം ചെയ്തു? ചെയ്യരുതാത്ത കാര്യം നീ എന്നോടു ചെയ്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. Then Abimelech called Abraham and said unto him, 'What hast thou done unto us? And how have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? Thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.'

10. നീ എന്തു കണ്ടിട്ടാകുന്നു ഇക്കാര്യം ചെയ്തതു എന്നു അബീമേലെക് അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു അബ്രാഹാം പറഞ്ഞതു

10. And Abimelech said unto Abraham, 'What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing?'

11. ഈ സ്ഥലത്തു ദൈവഭയം ഇല്ല നിശ്ചയം; എന്റെ ഭാര്യനിമിത്തം അവര് എന്നെ കൊല്ലും എന്നു ഞാന് നിരൂപിച്ചു.

11. And Abraham said, 'Because I thought surely the fear of God is not in this place, and they will slay me for my wife's sake.

12. വാസ്തവത്തില് അവള് എന്റെ പെങ്ങളാകുന്നു; എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ മകള്; എന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ മകളല്ല താനും; അവള് എനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായി.

12. And yet indeed she is my sister: she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother, and she became my wife.

13. എന്നാല് ദൈവം എന്നെ എന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തില്നിന്നു പുറപ്പെടുവിച്ചപ്പോള് ഞാന് അവളോടുനീ എനിക്കു ഒരു ദയ ചെയ്യേണംനാം ഏതൊരു ദിക്കില് ചെന്നാലും അവിടെഅവന് എന്റെ ആങ്ങള എന്നു എന്നെക്കുറിച്ചു പറയേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

13. And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, `This is thy kindness which thou shalt show unto me: at every place whither we shall come, say of me, 'He is my brother.'''

14. അബീമേലെക് അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു ആടുമാടുകളെയും ദാസീദാസന്മാരെയും കൊടുത്തു; അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറയെയും അവന്നു മടക്കിക്കൊടുത്തു

14. And Abimelech took sheep and oxen, and menservants and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored to him Sarah his wife.

15. ഇതാ, എന്റെ രാജ്യം നിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു; നിനക്കു ബോധിച്ചേടത്തു പാര്ത്തുകൊള്ക എന്നു അബീമേലെക് പറഞ്ഞു.

15. And Abimelech said, 'Behold, my land is before thee. Dwell where it pleaseth thee.'

16. സാറയോടു അവന് നിന്റെ ആങ്ങളെക്കു ഞാന് ആയിരം വെള്ളിക്കാശു കൊടുത്തിട്ടുണ്ടു; നിന്നോടുകൂടെയുള്ള എല്ലാവരുടെയും മുമ്പാകെ ഇതു നിനക്കു ഒരു പ്രതിശാന്തി; നീ എല്ലാവര്ക്കും മുമ്പാകെ നീതീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടുമിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And unto Sarah he said, 'Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver; behold, he is to thee a covering of the eyes unto all who are with thee and with all other.' Thus she was reproved.

17. അബ്രാഹാം ദൈവത്തോടു അപേക്ഷിച്ചു; അപ്പോള് ദൈവം അബീമേലെക്കിനെയും അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെയും അവന്റെ ദാസിമാരെയും സൌഖ്യമാക്കി, അവര് പ്രസവിച്ചു.

17. So Abraham prayed unto God. And God healed Abimelech, and his wife and his maidservants; and they bore children,

18. അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ സാറയുടെ നിമിത്തം യഹോവ അബീമേലെക്കിന്റെ ഭവനത്തിലെ ഗര്ഭം ഒക്കെയും അടെച്ചിരുന്നു.

18. for the LORD had closed up fast all the wombs of the house of Abimelech because of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
