1. After these things God decided to test Abraham's faith. God said to him, 'Abraham!' And he said, 'Yes!'

2. Then God said, 'Take your son to the land of Moriah and kill your son there as a sacrifice for me. This must be Isaac, your only son, the one you love. Use him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains there. I will tell you which mountain.'

3. അബ്രാഹാം അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു കഴുതെക്കു കോപ്പിട്ടു കെട്ടി ബാല്യക്കാരില് രണ്ടുപേരെയും തന്റെ മകന് യിസ്ഹാക്കിനെയും കൂട്ടി ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നു വിറകു കീറി എടുത്തുംകൊണ്ടു പുറപ്പെട്ടു, ദൈവം തന്നോടു കല്പിച്ച സ്ഥലത്തേക്കു പോയി.

3. In the morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took Isaac and two servants with him. He cut the wood for the sacrifice. Then they went to the place where God told them to go.

4. മൂന്നാം ദിവസം അബ്രാഹാം നോക്കി ദൂരത്തു നിന്നു ആ സ്ഥലം കണ്ടു.

4. After they traveled three days, Abraham looked up, and in the distance he saw the place where they were going.

5. അബ്രാഹാം ബാല്യക്കാരോടുനിങ്ങള് കഴുതയുമായി ഇവിടെ ഇരിപ്പിന് ; ഞാനും ബാലനും അവിടത്തോളം ചെന്നു ആരാധന കഴിച്ചു മടങ്ങിവരാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Then he said to his servants, 'Stay here with the donkey. The boy and I will go to that place and worship. Then we will come back to you later.'

6. അബ്രാഹാം ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നുള്ള വിറകു എടുത്തു തന്റെ മകനായ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ചുമലില് വെച്ചു; തീയും കത്തിയും താന് എടുത്തു; ഇരുവരും ഒന്നിച്ചു നടന്നു.

6. Abraham took the wood for the sacrifice and put it on his son's shoulder. Abraham took the special knife and fire. Then both he and his son went together to the place for worship.

7. അപ്പോള് യിസ്ഹാക് തന്റെ അപ്പനായ അബ്രാഹാമിനോടുഅപ്പാ, എന്നു പറഞ്ഞതിന്നു അവന് എന്താകുന്നു മകനേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. തീയും വിറകുമുണ്ടു; എന്നാല് ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടി എവിടെ എന്നു അവന് ചോദിച്ചു.

7. Isaac said to his father Abraham, 'Father!' Abraham answered, 'Yes, son?' Isaac said, 'I see the wood and the fire. But where is the lamb we will burn as a sacrifice?'

8. ദൈവം തനിക്കു ഹോമയാഗത്തിന്നു ഒരു ആട്ടിന് കുട്ടിയെ നോക്കിക്കൊള്ളും, മകനേ, എന്നു അബ്രാഹാം പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ഇരുവരും ഒന്നിച്ചു നടന്നു.

8. Abraham answered, 'God himself is providing the lamb for the sacrifice, my son.' So both Abraham and his son went together to that place.

9. ദൈവം കല്പിച്ചിരുന്ന സ്ഥലത്തു അവര് എത്തി; അബ്രാഹാം ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു, വിറകു അടുക്കി, തന്റെ മകന് യിസ്ഹാക്കിനെ കെട്ടി യാഗപീഠത്തിന്മേല് വിറകിന്മീതെ കിടത്തി.

9. When they came to the place where God told them to go, Abraham built an altar. He carefully laid the wood on the altar. Then he tied up his son Isaac and laid him on the altar on top of the wood.

10. പിന്നെ അബ്രാഹാം കൈ നീട്ടി തന്റെ മകനെ അറുക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു കത്തി എടുത്തു.

10. Then Abraham reached for his knife to kill his son.

11. ഉടനെ യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് ആകാശത്തുനിന്നുഅബ്രാഹാമേ, അബ്രാഹാമേ, എന്നു വിളിച്ചു; ഞാന് ഇതാ, എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

11. But the Angel of the Lord stopped him. The angel called from heaven and said, 'Abraham, Abraham!' Abraham answered, 'Yes?'

12. ബാലന്റെ മേല് കൈവെക്കരുതു; അവനോടു ഒന്നും ചെയ്യരുതു; നിന്റെ ഏകജാതനായ മകനെ തരുവാന് നീ മടിക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു നീ ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു എന്നു ഞാന് ഇപ്പോള് അറിയുന്നു എന്നു അവന് അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

12. The angel said, 'Don't kill your son or hurt him in any way. Now I can see that you do respect and obey God. I see that you are ready to kill your son, your only son, for me.'

13. അബ്രാഹാം തലപൊക്കി നോക്കിയപ്പോള് പിമ്പുറത്തു ഒരു ആട്ടുകൊറ്റന് കൊമ്പു കാട്ടില് പിടിപെട്ടു കിടക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു; അബ്രാഹാം ചെന്നു ആട്ടുകൊറ്റനെ പിടിച്ചു തന്റെ മകന്നു പകരം ഹോമയാഗം കഴിച്ചു.

13. Then Abraham noticed a ram whose horns were caught in a bush. So Abraham went and took the ram. He offered it, instead of his son, as a sacrifice to God.

14. അബ്രാഹാം ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്നു യഹോവ-യിരേ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. യഹോവയുടെ പര്വ്വതത്തില് അവന് പ്രത്യക്ഷനാകും എന്നു ഇന്നുവരെയും പറഞ്ഞുവരുന്നു.

14. So Abraham gave that place a name, 'Yahweh Yireh.' Even today people say, 'On this mountain the Lord can be seen.'

15. യഹോവയുടെ ദൂതന് രണ്ടാമതും ആകാശത്തുനിന്നു അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു വിളിച്ചു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതു

15. The Angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time.

16. നീ ഈ കാര്യം ചെയ്തു, നിന്റെ ഏകജാതനായ മകനെ തരുവാന് മടിക്കായ്കകൊണ്ടു

16. The angel said, 'You were ready to kill your only son for me. Since you did this for me, I make you this promise: I, the Lord, promise that

17. I will surely bless you and give you as many descendants as the stars in the sky. There will be as many people as sand on the seashore. And your people will live in cities that they will take from their enemies.

18. നീ എന്റെ വാക്കു അനുസരിച്ചതു കൊണ്ടു നിന്റെ സന്തതി മുഖാന്തരം ഭൂമിയിലുള്ള സകലജാതികളും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടും എന്നു ഞാന് എന്നെക്കൊണ്ടു തന്നേ സത്യം ചെയ്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു.

18. Every nation on the earth will be blessed through your descendants. I will do this because you obeyed me.'

19. പിന്നെ അബ്രാഹാം ബാല്യക്കാരുടെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിവന്നു; അവര് ഒന്നിച്ചു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ബേര്--ശേബയിലേക്കു പോന്നു; അബ്രാഹാം ബേര്-ശേബയില് പാര്ത്തു.

19. Then Abraham went back to his servants. They all traveled back to Beersheba, and Abraham stayed there.

20. അനന്തരം മില്ക്കയും നിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ നാഹോരിന്നു മക്കളെ പ്രസവിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു അബ്രാഹാമിന്നു വര്ത്തമാനം കിട്ടി.

20. After all these things happened, a message was sent to Abraham. It said, 'Your brother Nahor and his wife Milcah have children now.

21. അവര് ആരെന്നാല്ആദ്യജാതന് ഊസ്, അവന്റെ അനുജന് ബൂസ്, അരാമിന്റെ പിതാവായ കെമൂവേല്,

21. The first son is Uz. The second son is Buz. The third son is Kemuel, the father of Aram.

22. കേശെദ്, ഹസോ, പില്ദാശ്, യിദലാഫ്, ബെഥൂവേല്.

22. Then there are Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.'

23. ബെഥൂവേല് റിബെക്കയെ ജനിപ്പിച്ചു. ഈ എട്ടു പേരെ മില്ക്കാ അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ നാഹോരിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ചു.

23. Bethuel was the father of Rebekah. Milcah was the mother of these eight sons, and Nahor was the father. Nahor was Abraham's brother.

24. അവന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടി രെയൂമാ എന്നവളും തേബഹ്, ഗഹാം, തഹശ്, മാഖാ എന്നിവരെ പ്രസവിച്ചു.

24. Also Nahor had four other sons from his slave woman Reumah. The sons were Tebah, Gaham, Tahash, and Maacah.
