1. അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ കാലത്തുണ്ടായ മുമ്പിലത്തെ ക്ഷാമം കൂടാതെ പിന്നെയും ആ ദേശത്തു ഒരു ക്ഷാമം ഉണ്ടായി. അപ്പോള് യിസ്ഹാക് ഗെരാരില് ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ രാജാവായ അബീമേലെക്കിന്റെ അടുക്കല് പോയി.

1. And a famine was in the land besides the famine in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

2. യഹോവ അവന്നു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായി അരുളിച്ചെയ്തതെന്തെന്നാല്നീ മിസ്രയീമിലേക്കു പോകരുതു; ഞാന് നിന്നോടു കല്പിക്കുന്ന ദേശത്തു പാര്ക്ക.

2. And Jehovah appeared to him and said, Do not go down into Egypt; stay in the land which I shall say to you.

3. ഈ ദേശത്തു താമസിക്ക; ഞാന് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഇരുന്നു നിന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കും; നിനക്കും നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കും ഈ ദേശം ഒക്കെയും തരും; നിന്റെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിനോടു ഞാന് ചെയ്ത സത്യം നിവര്ത്തിക്കും.

3. Reside in this land, and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your seed I will give all these lands. And I will cause to rise My oath which I swore to your father Abraham.

4. അബ്രാഹാം എന്റെ വാക്കു കേട്ടു എന്റെ നിയോഗവും കല്പനകളും ചട്ടങ്ങളും പ്രമാണങ്ങളും ആചരിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു

4. And I will increase your seed like the stars of the heavens, and I will give to your seed all these lands. And all the nations of the earth shall bless themselves in your Seed,

5. ഞാന് നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ ആകാശത്തിലെ നക്ഷത്രങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിച്ചു നിന്റെ സന്തതിക്കു ഈ ദേശമൊക്കെയും കൊടുക്കും; നിന്റെ സന്തതിമുഖാന്തരം ഭൂമിയിലെ സകലജാതികളും അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെടും.

5. because Abraham listened to My voice and heeded My charge, My commands, My statutes, and My laws.

6. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്ഹാക് ഗെരാരില് പാര്ത്തു.

6. And Isaac lived in Gerar.

7. ആ സ്ഥലത്തെ ജനം അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെക്കുറിച്ചു അവനോടു ചോദിച്ചു; അവള് എന്റെ സഹോദരിയെന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു; റിബെക്കാ സൌന്ദര്യമുള്ളവളാകകൊണ്ടു ആ സ്ഥലത്തെ ജനം അവളുടെ നിമിത്തം തന്നേ കൊല്ലാതിരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവള് എന്റെ ഭാര്യ എന്നു പറവാന് അവന് ശങ്കിച്ചു.

7. And the men of the place asked about his wife. And he said, She is my sister, for he was afraid to say, My wife, lest the men of the place kill me on account of Rebekah, for she was beautiful of form.

8. അവന് അവിടെ ഏറെക്കാലം പാര്ത്തശേഷം ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ രാജാവായ അബീമേലെക് കിളിവാതില്ക്കല് കൂടി നോക്കി യിസ്ഹാക് തന്റെ ഭാര്യയായ റിബെക്കയോടുകൂടെ വിനോദിക്കുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

8. And it happened when his days were many to him there, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked through the window and saw; and, behold, Isaac was sporting with his wife Rebekah.

9. അബീമേലെക് യിസ്ഹാക്കിനെ വിളിച്ചുഅവള് നിന്റെ ഭാര്യയാകുന്നു നിശ്ചയം; പിന്നെ എന്റെ സഹോദരിയെന്നു നീ പറഞ്ഞതു എങ്ങനെ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചതിന്നു യിസ്ഹാക് അവനോടുഅവളുടെ നിമിത്തം മരിക്കാതിരിപ്പാന് ആകുന്നു ഞാന് അങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

9. And Abimelech called Isaac and said, See, surely she is your wife, and how have you said, She is my sister? And Isaac said to him, Because I said, lest I die on account of her.

10. അപ്പോള് അബീമേലെക്നീ ഞങ്ങളോടു ഈ ചെയ്തതു എന്തു? ജനത്തില് ആരെങ്കിലും നിന്റെ ഭാര്യയോടുകൂടെ ശയിപ്പാനും നീ ഞങ്ങളുടെ മേല് കുറ്റം വരുത്തുവാനും സംഗതി വരുമായിരുന്നുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. And Abimelech said, What is this you have done to us? One of the people had in a little lain with your wife, and you would have brought on us guilt.

11. പിന്നെ അബീമേലെക്ഈ പുരുഷനെയോ അവന്റെ ഭാര്യയെയോ തൊടുന്നവന്നു മരണശിക്ഷ ഉണ്ടാകും എന്നു സകലജനത്തോടും കല്പിച്ചു.

11. And Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, Anyone touching this man and his wife dying shall die.

12. യിസ്ഹാക് ആ ദേശത്തു വിതെച്ചു; ആയാണ്ടില് നൂറുമേനി വിളവു കിട്ടി; യഹോവ അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

12. And Isaac sowed in that land. And a hundredfold was found in that year, and Jehovah blessed him.

13. അവന് വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു വര്ദ്ധിച്ചു മഹാധനവാനായിത്തീര്ന്നു.

13. And the man grew great, and he went on, going on to be great, until he became exceedingly great.

14. അവന്നു ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടങ്ങളും മാട്ടിന് കൂട്ടങ്ങളും വളരെ ദാസീദാസന്മാരും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ഫെലിസ്ത്യര്ക്കും അവനോടു അസൂയ തോന്നി.

14. And possessions of flocks and possessions of herds, and many slaves were his. And the Philistines envied him.

15. എന്നാല് അവന്റെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ കാലത്തു അവന്റെ പിതാവിന്റെ ദാസന്മാര് കുഴിച്ചിരുന്ന കിണറൊക്കെയും ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് മണ്ണിട്ടു നികത്തിക്കളഞ്ഞിരുന്നു.

15. And all the wells which the slaves of his father dug in the days of his father Abraham, the Philistines had stopped them and filled them with dirt.

16. അബീമേലെക് യിസ്ഹാക്കിനോടുനീ ഞങ്ങളെക്കാള് ഏറ്റവും ബലവാനാകകൊണ്ടു ഞങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു പോക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

16. And Abimelech said to Isaac, Go from us, for you are stronger than we.

17. അങ്ങനെ യിസ്ഹാക് അവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു ഗേരാര്താഴ്വരയില് കൂടാരമടിച്ചു, അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു.

17. And Isaac went from there and camped in Gerar Valley, and lived there.

18. തന്റെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ കാലത്തു കുഴിച്ചതും അബ്രാഹാം മരിച്ചശേഷം ഫെലിസ്ത്യര് നികത്തിക്കളഞ്ഞതുമായ കിണറുകള് യിസ്ഹാക് പിന്നെയും കുഴിച്ചു തന്റെ പിതാവു അവേക്കു ഇട്ടിരുന്ന പേര് തന്നേ ഇട്ടു.

18. And Isaac returned and dug the wells of water which they dug in the days of his father Abraham; and the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. And he called names to them like the names which his father had called them.

19. യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ദാസന്മാര് ആ താഴ്വരയില് കുഴിച്ചു നീരുറവുള്ള ഒരു കിണറ് കണ്ടു.

19. And Isaac's slaves dug in the torrent-bed, and they found there a well of flowing water.

20. അപ്പോള് ഗെരാര്ദേശത്തിലെ ഇടയന്മാര്ഈ വെള്ളം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ളതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ഇടയന്മാരോടു ശണ്ഠയിട്ടു; അവര് തന്നോടു ശണ്ഠയിട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ആ കിണറ്റിനു ഏശെക് എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

20. And the shepherds of Gerar fought with the shepherds of Isaac, saying, The water is ours; and he called the name of the well, Contention, for they had contended with him.

21. അവര് മറ്റൊരു കിണറു കുഴിച്ചു; അതിനെക്കുറിച്ചും അവര് ശണ്ഠയിട്ടതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് അതിന്നു സിത്നാ എന്നു പേര് വിളിച്ചു.

21. And they dug another well, and they also fought over it; and he called its name, Opposition.

22. അവന് അവിടെനിന്നു മാറിപ്പോയി മറ്റൊരു കിണറ് കുഴിച്ചു; അതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു അവര് ശണ്ഠയിട്ടില്ല. യഹോവ ഇപ്പോള് നമുക്കു ഇടം ഉണ്ടാക്കി നാം ദേശത്തു വര്ദ്ധിക്കുമെന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അവന് അതിന്നു രെഹോബോത്ത് എന്നു പേരിട്ടു.

22. And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not fight over it; and he called its name, Broad Places. And he said, For now Jehovah has broadened for us and we shall be fruitful in the land.

23. അവിടെ നിന്നു അവന് ബേര്-ശേബെക്കു പോയി.

23. And he went from there to Beer-sheba.

24. അന്നു രാത്രി യഹോവ അവന്നു പ്രത്യക്ഷനായിഞാന് നിന്റെ പിതാവായ അബ്രാഹാമിന്റെ ദൈവം ആകുന്നു; നീ ഭയപ്പെടേണ്ടാ; ഞാന് നിന്നോടുകൂടെ ഉണ്ടു; എന്റെ ദാസനായ അബ്രാഹാംനിമിത്തം ഞാന് നിന്നെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു നിന്റെ സന്തതിയെ വര്ദ്ധിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു അരുളിച്ചെയ്തു.

24. And Jehovah appeared to him in the same night, and said, I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you; and I will bless you and increase your seed, because of My servant Abraham.

25. അവിടെ അവന് ഒരു യാഗപീഠം പണിതു, യഹോവയുടെ നാമത്തില് ആരാധിച്ചു. അവിടെ തന്റെ കൂടാരം അടിച്ചു; അവിടെയും യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ദാസന്മാര് ഒരു കിണറ് കുഴിച്ചു.

25. And he built an altar there and called on the name of Jehovah. And he pitched his tent there. And the slaves of Isaac dug a well there.

26. അനന്തരം അബീമേലെക്കും സ്നേഹിതനായ അഹൂസത്തും സേനാപതിയായ ഫീക്കോലും ഗെരാരില്നിന്നു അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

26. And Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and his aide Ahuzzath, and Phicol the general of his army.

27. യിസ്ഹാക് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് എന്തിന്നു എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുന്നു? നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ ദ്വേഷിച്ചു നിങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയില്നിന്നു അയച്ചുകളഞ്ഞുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. And Isaac said to them, Why have you come to me, since you hate me and sent me away from you?

28. അതിന്നു അവര്യഹോവ നിന്നോടുകൂടെയുണ്ടു എന്നു ഞങ്ങള് സ്പഷ്ടമായി കണ്ടു; അതുകൊണ്ടു നമുക്കു തമ്മില്, ഞങ്ങള്ക്കും നിനക്കും തമ്മില് തന്നെ, ഒരു സത്യബന്ധമുണ്ടായിരിക്കേണം.

28. And they said, Since we plainly have seen that Jehovah has been with you, and we have said, let there be an oath now between us, between us and you, and let us cut a covenant with you,

29. ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നെ തൊട്ടിട്ടില്ലാത്തതുപോലെയും നന്മമാത്രം നിനക്കു ചെയ്തു നിന്നെ സമാധാനത്തോടെ അയച്ചതുപോലെയും നീ ഞങ്ങളോടു ഒരു ദോഷവും ചെയ്കയില്ല എന്നു ഞങ്ങളും നീയും തമ്മില് ഒരു ഉടമ്പടി ചെയ്ക. നീ യഹോവയാല് അനുഗ്രഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടവനല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

29. whether you will do with us evil, as we did not touch you, and as we did only good with you, and we sent you away in peace you now being blessed of Jehovah.

30. അവന് അവര്ക്കും ഒരു വിരുന്നു ഒരുക്കി; അവര് ഭക്ഷിച്ചു പാനം ചെയ്തു.

30. And he made a feast for them, and they ate and drank.

31. അവര് അതികാലത്തു എഴുന്നേറ്റു, തമ്മില് സത്യം ചെയ്തശേഷം യിസ്ഹാക് അവരെ യാത്രയയച്ചു അവര് സമാധാനത്തോടെ പിരിഞ്ഞുപോയി.

31. And they started up early at dawn, and each swore to his brother. And Isaac sent them away, and they left him in peace.

32. ആ ദിവസം തന്നേ യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്റെ ദാസന്മാര് വന്നു തങ്ങള് കുഴിച്ച കിണറ്റിന്റെ വസ്തുത അവനെ അറിയിച്ചു

32. And it happened on that day Isaac's slaves came and told him about the well which they had dug, and said to him, We found water.

33. ഞങ്ങള് വെള്ളം കണ്ടു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് അതിന്നു ശിബാ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു; അതുകൊണ്ടു ആ പട്ടണത്തിന്നു ഇന്നുവരെ ബേര്-ശേബ എന്നു പേര്.

33. And he called it Shebah; so the name of the city is The Well of Sheba until this day.

34. ഏശാവിന്നു നാല്പതു വയസ്സായപ്പോള് അവന് ഹിത്യനായ ബേരിയുടെ മകള് യെഹൂദീത്തിനെയും ഹിത്യനായ ഏലോന്റെ മകള് ബാസമത്തിനെയും ഭാര്യമാരായി പരിഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

34. And Esau was a son of forty years. And he took a wife, Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite; also Basemath the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

35. ഇവര് യിസ്ഹാക്കിന്നും റിബെക്കെക്കും മനോവ്യസനകാരണമായിരുന്നു.

35. And they were a grief of spirit to Isaac and to Rebekah.
