1. ലേയാ യാക്കോബിന്നു പ്രസവിച്ച മകളായ ദീനാ ദേശത്തിലെ കന്യകമാരെ കാണമ്ാന് പോയി.

1. Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.

2. എന്നാറെ ഹിവ്യനായ ഹമോരിന്റെ മകനായി ദേശത്തിന്റെ പ്രഭുവായ ശെഖേം അവളെ കണ്ടിട്ടു പിടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുപോയി അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു അവള്ക്കു പോരായ്കവരുത്തി.

2. And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her and lay with her, and violated her.

3. അവന്റെ ഉള്ളം യാക്കോബിന്റെ മകളായ ദീനയൊടുപറ്റിച്ചേര്ന്നു; അവന് ബാലയെ സ്നേഹിച്ചു, ബാലയോടു ഹൃദ്യമായി സംസാരിച്ചു.

3. His soul was strongly attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young woman and spoke kindly to the young woman.

4. ശെഖേം തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ഹമോരിനോടുഈ ബാലയെ എനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു എടുക്കേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, 'Get me this young woman as a wife.'

5. തന്റെ മകളായ ദീനയെ അവന് വഷളാക്കിഎന്നു യാക്കോബ് കേട്ടു; അവന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടത്തോടുകൂടെ വയലില് ആയിരുന്നു; അവര് വരുവോളം യാക്കോബ് മിണ്ടാതിരുന്നു.

5. And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter. Now his sons were with his livestock in the field; so Jacob held his peace until they came.

6. ശെഖേമിന്റെ അപ്പനായ ഹമോര് യാക്കോബിനോടു സംസാരിപ്പാന് അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് വന്നു.

6. Then Hamor the father of Shechem went out to Jacob to speak with him.

7. യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് വസ്തുത കേട്ടു വയലില് നിന്നു വന്നു. അവന് യാക്കോബിന്റെ മകളോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു, അങ്ങനെ അരുതാത്ത കാര്യം ചെയ്തു യിസ്രായേലില് വഷളത്വം പ്രവര്ത്തിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു ആ പുരുഷന്മാര്ക്കും വ്യസനം തോന്നി മഹാകോപവും ജ്വലിച്ചു.

7. And the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard [it;] and the men were grieved and very angry, because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob's daughter, a thing which ought not to be done.

8. ഹമോര് അവരോടു സംസാരിച്ചുഎന്റെ മകന് ശെഖേമിന്റെ ഉള്ളം നിങ്ങളുടെ മകളോടു പറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; അവളെ അവന്നു ഭാര്യയായി കൊടുക്കേണം.

8. But Hamor spoke with them, saying, 'The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter. Please give her to him as a wife.

9. നിങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളോടു വിവാഹസംബന്ധം കൂടി നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്ത്രീകളെ ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു തരികയും ഞങ്ങളുടെ സ്ത്രീകളെ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു എടുക്കയും ചെയ്വിന് .

9. 'And make marriages with us; give your daughters to us, and take our daughters to yourselves.

10. നിങ്ങള്ക്കു ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പാര്ക്കാം; ദേശത്തു നിങ്ങള്ക്കു സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യമുണ്ടാകും; അതില് പാര്ത്തു വ്യാപാരം ചെയ്തു വസ്തു സമ്പാദിപ്പിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

10. 'So you shall dwell with us, and the land shall be before you. Dwell and trade in it, and acquire possessions for yourselves in it.'

11. ശെഖേമും അവളുടെ അപ്പനോടും സഹോദരന്മാരോടുംനിങ്ങള്ക്കുഎന്നോടു കൃപ തോന്നിയാല് നിങ്ങള് പറയുന്നതു ഞാന് തരാം.

11. Then Shechem said to her father and her brothers, 'Let me find favor in your eyes, and whatever you say to me I will give.

12. എന്നോടു സ്ത്രീധനവും ദാനവും എത്രയെങ്കിലും ചോദിപ്പിന് ; നിങ്ങള് പറയുംപോലെ ഞാന് തരാം; ബാലയെ എനിക്കു ഭാര്യയായിട്ടു തരേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

12. 'Ask me ever so much dowry and gift, and I will give according to what you say to me; but give me the young woman as a wife.'

13. തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയായ ദീനയെ ഇവന് വഷളാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് ശെഖേമിനോടും അവന്റെ അപ്പനായ ഹമോരിനോടും സംസാരിച്ചു കപടമായി ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞതു:ന്ന കാര്യം ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു പാടുള്ളതല്ല; അതു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു അവമാനമാകുന്നു. എങ്കിലും ഒന്നു ചെയ്താല് ഞങ്ങള് സമ്മതിക്കാം.

13. But the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father, and spoke deceitfully, because he had defiled Dinah their sister.

14. നിങ്ങളിലുള്ള ആണെല്ലാം പരിച്ഛേദന ഏറ്റു നിങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ ആയ്തീരുമെങ്കില്

14. And they said to them, 'We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one who is uncircumcised, for that [would be] a reproach to us.

15. ഞങ്ങളുടെ സ്ത്രീകളെ നിങ്ങള്ക്കു തരികയും നിങ്ങളുടെ സ്ത്രീകളെ ഞങ്ങള് എടുക്കയും നിങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പാര്ത്തു ഒരു ജനമായ്തീരുകയും ചെയ്യാം.

15. 'But on this [condition] we will consent to you: If you will become as we [are,] if every male of you is circumcised,

16. പരിച്ഛേദന ഏലക്കുന്നതില് ഞങ്ങളുടെ വാക്കു സമ്മതിക്കാഞ്ഞാലോ ഞങ്ങള് ഞങ്ങളുടെ ബാലയെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുപോരും.

16. 'then we will give our daughters to you, and we will take your daughters to us; and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

17. അവരുടെ വാക്കു ഹമോരിന്നും ഹാമോരിന്റെ മകനായ ശെഖേമിന്നും ബോധിച്ചു.

17. 'But if you will not heed us and be circumcised, then we will take our daughter and be gone.'

18. ആ യൌവനക്കാരന്നു യാക്കോബിന്റെ മകളോടു അനുരാഗം വര്ദ്ധിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അവന് ആ കാര്യം നടത്തുവാന് താമസം ചെയ്തില്ല; അവന് തന്റെ പിതൃഭവനത്തില് എല്ലാവരിലും ശ്രേഷ്ഠനായിരുന്നു.

18. And their words pleased Hamor and Shechem, Hamor's son.

19. അങ്ങനെ ഹമോരും അവന്റെ മകനായ ശെഖേമും തങ്ങളുടെ പട്ടണഗോപുരത്തിങ്കല് ചെന്നു, പട്ടണത്തിലെ പുരുഷന്മാരോടു സംസാരിച്ചു

19. So the young man did not delay to do the thing, because he delighted in Jacob's daughter. He [was] more honorable than all the household of his father.

20. ഈ മനുഷ്യര് നമ്മോടു സമാധാനമായിരിക്കുന്നു; അതുകൊണ്ടു അവര് ദേശത്തു പാര്ത്തു വ്യാപാരം ചെയ്യട്ടെ; അവര്ക്കും നമുക്കും മതിയാകംവണ്ണം ദേശം വിസ്താരമുള്ളതല്ലോ; അവരുടെ സ്ത്രീകളെ നാം വിവാഹം കഴിക്കയും നമ്മുടെ സ്ത്രീകളെ അവര്ക്കുംകൊടുക്കയും ചെയ്ക.

20. And Hamor and Shechem his son came to the gate of their city, and spoke with the men of their city, saying:

21. അവരുടെ ആട്ടിന് കൂട്ടവും സമ്പത്തും മൃഗങ്ങളൊക്കെയും നമുക്കു ആകയില്ലയോ? അവര് പറയുംവണ്ണം സമ്മതിച്ചാല് മതി; എന്നാല് അവര് നമ്മോടുകൂടെ പാര്ക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. 'These men [are] at peace with us. Therefore let them dwell in the land and trade in it. For indeed the land [is] large enough for them. Let us take their daughters to us as wives, and let us give them our daughters.

22. മൂന്നാം ദിവസം അവര് വേദനപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുമ്പോള് യാക്കോബിന്റെ രണ്ടു പുത്രന്മാരായി ദീനയുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ ശിമെയോനും ലേവിയും താന്താന്റെ വാള് എടുത്തു നിര്ഭയമായിരുന്ന പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ നേരെ ചെന്നു ആണിനെയൊക്കെയും കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു.

22. 'Only on this [condition] will the men consent to dwell with us, to be one people: if every male among us is circumcised as they [are] circumcised.

23. അവര് ഹമോരിനെയും അവന്റെ മകനായ ശേഖേമിനെയും വാളിന്റെ വായ്ത്തലയാല്കൊന്നു ദീനയെ ശെഖേമിന്റെ വീട്ടില്നിന്നു കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു പോന്നു.

23. '[Will] not their livestock, their property, and every animal of theirs [be] ours? Only let us consent to them, and they will dwell with us.'

24. പിന്നെ യാക്കോബിന്റെ പുത്രന്മാര് നിഹതന്മാരുടെ ഇടയില് ചെന്നു,തങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയെ അവര് വഷളാക്കിയതുകൊണ്ടു പട്ടണത്തെ കൊള്ളയിട്ടു.

24. And all who went out of the gate of his city heeded Hamor and Shechem his son; every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city.

25. അവര്അവരുടെ ആടു, കന്നുകാലി, കഴുത ഇങ്ങനെ പട്ടണത്തിലും വെളിയിലുമുള്ളവയൊക്കെയും അപഹരിച്ചു.

25. Now it came to pass on the third day, when they were in pain, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brothers, each took his sword and came boldly upon the city and killed all the males.

26. അവരുടെസമ്പത്തൊക്കെയും എല്ലാപൈതങ്ങളെയും സ്ത്രീകളെയും അവര് കൊണ്ടുപോയി; വീടുകളിലുള്ളതൊക്കെയും കൊള്ളയിട്ടു.

26. And they killed Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah from Shechem's house, and went out.

27. അപ്പോള് യാക്കോബ് ശിമെയോനോടും ലേവിയോടുംഈ ദേശനിവാസികളായ കനാന്യരുടെയും പെരിസ്യരുടെയും ഇടയില് നിങ്ങള് എന്നെ നാറ്റിച്ചു വിഷമത്തിലാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു; ഞാന് ആള് ചുരുക്കമുള്ളവനല്ലോ; അവര് എനിക്കു വിരോധമായി കൂട്ടംകൂടി എന്നെ തോല്പിക്കയും ഞാനും എന്റെ ഭവനവും നശിക്കയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and plundered the city, because their sister had been defiled.

28. അതിന്നു അവര്ഞങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരിയോടു അവന്നു ഒരു വേശ്യയോടു എന്നപോലെ പെരുമാറാമോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. They took their sheep, their oxen, and their donkeys, what [was] in the city and what [was] in the field,
