1. അതിന്റെ ശേഷം സംഭവിച്ചതുദാവീദിന്റെ മകനായ അബ്ശാലോമിന്നു സൌന്ദര്യമുള്ള ഒരു സഹോദരി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവള്ക്കു താമാര് എന്നു പേര്; ദാവീദിന്റെ മകനായ അമ്നോന്നു അവളില് പ്രേമം ജനിച്ചു.

1. Now it was after this that Absalom the son of David had a beautiful sister whose name was Tamar, and Amnon the son of David loved her.

2. തന്റെ സഹോദരിയായ താമാര് നിമിത്തം മാല് മുഴുത്തിട്ടു അമ്നോന് രോഗിയായ്തീര്ന്നു. അവള് കന്യകയാകയാല് അവളോടു വല്ലതും ചെയ്വാന് അമ്നോന്നു പ്രയാസം തോന്നി.

2. Amnon was so frustrated because of his sister Tamar that he made himself ill, for she was a virgin, and it seemed hard to Amnon to do anything to her.

3. എന്നാല് അമ്നോന്നു ദാവീദിന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠനായ ശിമെയയുടെ മകനായി യോനാദാബ് എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു സ്നേഹിതന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; യോനാദാബ് വലിയ ഉപായി ആയിരുന്നു.

3. But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother; and Jonadab was a very shrewd man.

4. അവന് അവനോടുനീ നാള്ക്കുനാള് ഇങ്ങനെ ക്ഷീണിച്ചുവരുന്നതു എന്തു, രാജകുമാരാ? എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞുകൂടയോ എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. അമ്നോന് അവനോടു എന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ പെങ്ങള് താമാരില് എനിക്കു പ്രേമം ജനിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. He said to him, 'O son of the king, why are you so depressed morning after morning? Will you not tell me?' Then Amnon said to him, 'I am in love with Tamar, the sister of my brother Absalom.'

5. യോനാദാബ് അവനോടുനീ രോഗം നടിച്ചു കിടക്കയില് കിടന്നുകൊള്ക; നിന്നെ കാണ്മാന് നിന്റെ അപ്പന് വരുമ്പോള് നീ അവനോടുഎന്റെ സഹോദരിയായ താമാര് വന്നു എന്നെ ഒന്നു ഭക്ഷണം കഴിപ്പിക്കേണം; അവളുടെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു വാങ്ങി ഭക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഞാന് കാണ്കെ അവള് എന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു തന്നേ ഭക്ഷണം ഒരുക്കേണം എന്നു അപേക്ഷിച്ചുകൊള്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

5. Jonadab then said to him, 'Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill; when your father comes to see you, say to him, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and give me [some] food to eat, and let her prepare the food in my sight, that I may see [it] and eat from her hand.''

6. അങ്ങനെ അമ്നോന് രോഗം നടിച്ചു കിടന്നു; രാജാവു അവനെ കാണ്മാന് വന്നപ്പോള് അമ്നോന് രാജാവിനോടുഎന്റെ സഹോദരിയായ താമാര് വന്നു ഞാന് അവളുടെ കയ്യില് നിന്നു എടുത്തു ഭക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചുതന്നെ ഒന്നു രണ്ടു വടകളെ ഉണ്ടാക്കട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. So Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill; when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand.'

7. ഉടനെ ദാവീദ് അരമനയില് താമാരിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ആളയച്ചുനിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അമ്നോന്റെ വീട്ടില്ചെന്നു അവന്നു ഭക്ഷണം ഉണ്ടാക്കിക്കൊടുക്ക എന്നു പറയിച്ചു.

7. Then David sent to the house for Tamar, saying, 'Go now to your brother Amnon's house, and prepare food for him.'

8. താമാര് തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അമ്നോന്റെ വീട്ടില് ചെന്നു; അവന് കിടക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അവള് മാവു എടുത്തു കുഴച്ചു അവന്റെ മുമ്പില്വെച്ചു തന്നെ വടകളായി ചുട്ടു.

8. So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house, and he was lying down. And she took dough, kneaded [it], made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes.

9. ഉരുളിയോടെ എടുത്തു അവന്റെ മുമ്പില് വിളമ്പി; എന്നാല് ഭക്ഷിപ്പാന് അവന്നു ഇഷ്ടമായില്ല. എല്ലവരെയും എന്റെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു പുറത്താക്കുവിന് എന്നു അമ്നോന് പറഞ്ഞു. എല്ലാവരും അവന്റെ അടുക്കല്നിന്നു പുറത്തുപോയി.

9. She took the pan and dished [them] out before him, but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, 'Have everyone go out from me.' So everyone went out from him.

10. അപ്പോള് അമ്നോന് താമാരിനോടുഞാന് നിന്റെ കയ്യില്നിന്നു വാങ്ങി ഭക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു ഭക്ഷണം ഉള്മുറിയില് കൊണ്ടുവരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. താമാര് താന് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ വടളെ എടുത്തു ഉള്മുറിയില് സഹോദരനായ അമ്നോന്റെ അടുക്കല്കൊണ്ടുചെന്നു.

10. Then Amnon said to Tamar, 'Bring the food into the bedroom, that I may eat from your hand.' So Tamar took the cakes which she had made and brought them into the bedroom to her brother Amnon.

11. അവന് ഭക്ഷിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവള് അവയെ അവന്റെ അടുക്കല് കൊണ്ടുചെന്നപ്പോള് അവന് അവളെ പിടിച്ചു അവളോടുസഹോദരീ, വന്നു എന്നോടുകൂടെ ശയിക്ക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. When she brought [them] to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, 'Come, lie with me, my sister.'

12. But she answered him, 'No, my brother, do not violate me, for such a thing is not done in Israel; do not do this disgraceful thing!

13. എന്റെ അവമാനം ഞാന് എവിടെ കൊണ്ടുപോയി വേക്കും? നീയും യിസ്രായേലില് വഷളന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തില് ആയിപ്പോകുമല്ലോ. നീ രാജാവിനോടു പറക അവന് എന്നെ നിനക്കു തരാതിരിക്കയില്ല എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

13. 'As for me, where could I get rid of my reproach? And as for you, you will be like one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.'

14. എന്നാല് അവന് , അവളുടെ വാക്കു കേള്പ്പാന് മനസ്സില്ലാതെ, അവളെക്കാള് ബലമുള്ളവനാകകൊണ്ടു ബലാല്ക്കാരം ചെയ്തു അവളോടുകൂടെ ശയിച്ചു.

14. However, he would not listen to her; since he was stronger than she, he violated her and lay with her.

15. പിന്നെ അമ്നോന് അവളെ അത്യന്തം വെറുത്തു; അവന് അവളെ സ്നേഹിച്ച സ്നേഹത്തെക്കാള് അവളെ വെറുത്ത വെറുപ്പു വലുതായിരുന്നു. എഴുന്നേറ്റു പോക എന്നു അമ്നോന് അവളോടു പറഞ്ഞു;

15. Then Amnon hated her with a very great hatred; for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, 'Get up, go away!'

16. അവള് അവനോടുഅങ്ങനെയരുതു; നീ എന്നോടു ചെയ്ത മറ്റെ ദോഷത്തെക്കാള് എന്നെ പുറത്താക്കിക്കളയുന്ന ഈ ദോഷം ഏറ്റവും വലുതായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എന്നാല് അവന്നു അവളുടെ വാക്കു കേള്പ്പാന് മനസ്സായില്ല.

16. But she said to him, 'No, because this wrong in sending me away is greater than the other that you have done to me!' Yet he would not listen to her.

17. അവന് തനിക്കു ശുശ്രൂഷചെയ്യുന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരനെ വിളിച്ചു അവനോടുഇവളെ ഇവിടെനിന്നു പുറത്താക്കി വാതില് അടെച്ചുകളക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

17. Then he called his young man who attended him and said, 'Now throw this woman out of my [presence], and lock the door behind her.'

18. അവള് നിലയങ്കിധരിച്ചിരിന്നു; രാജകുമാരികളായ കന്യകമാര് ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള വസ്ത്രം ധരിക്ക പതിവായിരുന്നു. ബാല്യക്കാരന് അവളെ പുറത്തിറക്കി വാതില് അടെച്ചുകളഞ്ഞു.

18. Now she had on a long-sleeved garment; for in this manner the virgin daughters of the king dressed themselves in robes. Then his attendant took her out and locked the door behind her.

19. അപ്പോള് താമാര് തലയില് വെണ്ണീര് വാരിയിട്ടു താന് ധരിച്ചിരുന്ന നിലയങ്കി കീറി, തലയില് കയ്യുംവെച്ചു നിലവിളിച്ചുംകൊണ്ടു നടന്നു.

19. Tamar put ashes on her head and tore her long-sleeved garment which [was] on her; and she put her hand on her head and went away, crying aloud as she went.

20. അവളുടെ സഹോദരനായ അബ്ശാലോം അവളോടുനിന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അമ്നോന് നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ആയിരുന്നുവോ? ആകട്ടെ സഹോദരീ, മിണ്ടാതിരിക്ക; അവന് നിന്റെ സഹോദരനല്ലോ; ഈ കാര്യം മനസ്സില് വെക്കരുതു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ താമാര് തന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ വീട്ടില് ഏകാകിയായി പാര്ത്തു.

20. Then Absalom her brother said to her, 'Has Amnon your brother been with you? But now keep silent, my sister, he is your brother; do not take this matter to heart.' So Tamar remained and was desolate in her brother Absalom's house.

21. ദാവീദ് രാജാവു ഈ കാര്യം ഒക്കെയും കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവന്റെ കോപം ഏറ്റവും ജ്വലിച്ചു.

21. Now when King David heard of all these matters, he was very angry.

22. എന്നാല് അബ്ശാലോം അമ്നോനോടു ഗുണമോ ദോഷമോ ഒന്നും സംസാരിച്ചില്ല; തന്റെ സഹോദരിയായ താമാരിനെ അമ്നോന് അവമാനിച്ചതുകൊണ്ടു അബ്ശാലോം അവനെ ദ്വേഷിച്ചു.

22. But Absalom did not speak to Amnon either good or bad; for Absalom hated Amnon because he had violated his sister Tamar.

23. രണ്ടു സംവത്സരം കഴിഞ്ഞശേഷം അബ്ശാലോമിന്നു എഫ്രയീമിന്നു സമിപത്തുള്ള ബാല്ഹാസോരില് ആടുകളെ രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്ന അടിയന്തരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അബ്ശാലോം രാജകുമാരന്മാരെയൊക്കെയും ക്ഷണിച്ചു.

23. Now it came about after two full years that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal-hazor, which is near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all the king's sons.

24. അബ്ശാലോം രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കലും ചെന്നുഅടിയന്നു ആടുകളെ രോമം കത്രിക്കുന്ന അടിയന്തരം ഉണ്ടു; രാജാവും ഭൃത്യന്മാരും അടിയനോടുകൂടെ വരേണമേ എന്നപേക്ഷിച്ചു.

24. Absalom came to the king and said, 'Behold now, your servant has sheepshearers; please let the king and his servants go with your servant.'

25. രാജാവു അബ്ശാലോമിനോടുവേണ്ടാ മകനേ, ഞങ്ങള് എല്ലാവരും വന്നാല് നിനക്കു ഭാരമാകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവന് അവനെ നിര്ബ്ബന്ധിച്ചിട്ടും പോകുവാന് മനസ്സാകാതെ അവന് അവനെ അനുഗ്രഹിച്ചു.

25. But the king said to Absalom, 'No, my son, we should not all go, for we will be burdensome to you.' Although he urged him, he would not go, but blessed him.

26. അപ്പോള് അബ്ശാലോംഅങ്ങനെയെങ്കില് എന്റെ സഹോദരന് അമ്നോന് ഞങ്ങളോടുകൂടെ പോരട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. രാജാവു അവനോടുഅവന് പോരുന്നതു എന്തിന്നു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

26. Then Absalom said, 'If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us.' And the king said to him, 'Why should he go with you?'

27. എങ്കിലും അബ്ശാലോം നിര്ബന്ധിച്ചപ്പോള് അവന് അമ്നോനെയും രാജകുമാരന്മാരെയൊക്കെയും അവനോടുകൂടെ അയച്ചു.

27. But when Absalom urged him, he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him.

28. എന്നാല് അബ്ശാലോം തന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരോടുനോക്കിക്കൊള്വിന് ; അമ്നോന് വീഞ്ഞുകുടിച്ചു ആനന്ദിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നേരം ഞാന് നിങ്ങളോടുഅമ്നോനെ അടിച്ചുകൊല്ലുവിന് എന്നു പറയുമ്പോള് നിങ്ങള് അവനെ കൊല്ലുവിന് ; ഭയപ്പെടരുതു; ഞാനല്ലയോ നിങ്ങളോടു കല്പിച്ചതു? നിങ്ങള് ധൈര്യപ്പെട്ടു ശൂരന്മാരായിരിപ്പിന് എന്നു കല്പിച്ചു.

28. Absalom commanded his servants, saying, 'See now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, 'Strike Amnon,' then put him to death. Do not fear; have not I myself commanded you? Be courageous and be valiant.'

29. അബ്ശാലോം കല്പിച്ചതുപോലെ അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാര് അമ്നോനോടു ചെയ്തു. അപ്പോള് രാജകുമാരന്മാരൊക്കെയും എഴുന്നേറ്റു താന്താന്റെ കോവര്കഴുതപ്പുറത്തു കയറി ഔടിപ്പോയി.

29. The servants of Absalom did to Amnon just as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose and each mounted his mule and fled.

30. അവര് വഴിയില് ആയിരിക്കുമ്പോള് തന്നേഅബ്ശാലോം രാജകുമാരന്മാരെയൊക്കെയും കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; അവരില് ഒരുത്തനും ശേഷിച്ചില്ല എന്നു ദാവീദിന്നു വര്ത്തമാനം എത്തി.

30. Now it was while they were on the way that the report came to David, saying, 'Absalom has struck down all the king's sons, and not one of them is left.'

31. അപ്പോള് രാജാവു എഴുന്നേറ്റു വസ്ത്രംകീറി നിലത്തു കിടന്നു; അവന്റെ സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരും വസ്ത്രം കീറി അരികെ നിന്നു.

31. Then the king arose, tore his clothes and lay on the ground; and all his servants were standing by with clothes torn.

32. എന്നാല് ദാവീദിന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠനായ ശിമെയയുടെ മകനായ യോനാദാബ് പറഞ്ഞതുഅവര് രാജകുമാരന്മാരായ യുവാക്കളെ ഒക്കെയും കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു എന്നു യജമാനന് വിചാരിക്കരുതു; അമ്നോന് മാത്രമെ മരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളു; തന്റെ സഹോദരിയായ താമാരിനെ അവന് അവമാനിച്ച നാള്മുതല് അബ്ശാലോമിന്റെ മുഖത്തു ഈ നിര്ണ്ണയം കാണ്മാന് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

32. Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother, responded, 'Do not let my lord suppose they have put to death all the young men, the king's sons, for Amnon alone is dead; because by the intent of Absalom this has been determined since the day that he violated his sister Tamar.

33. ആകയാല് രാജകുമാരന്മാര് ഒക്കെയും മരിച്ചുപോയി എന്നുള്ള വര്ത്തമാനം യജമാനനായ രാജാവു ഗണ്യമാക്കരുതേ; അമ്നോന് മാത്രമേ മരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള.

33. 'Now therefore, do not let my lord the king take the report to heart, namely, 'all the king's sons are dead,' for only Amnon is dead.'

34. എന്നാല് അബ്ശാലോം ഔടിപ്പോയി. കാവല്നിന്നിരുന്ന ബാല്യക്കാരന് തല ഉയര്ത്തിനോക്കിയപ്പോള് വളരെ ജനം അവന്റെ പിമ്പിലുള്ള മലഞ്ചരിവുവഴിയായി വരുന്നതു കണ്ടു.

34. Now Absalom had fled. And the young man who was the watchman raised his eyes and looked, and behold, many people were coming from the road behind him by the side of the mountain.

35. അപ്പോള് യോനാദാബ് രാജാവിനോടുഇതാ, രാജകുമാരന്മാര് വരുന്നു; അടിയന്റെ വാക്കു ഒത്തുവല്ലോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

35. Jonadab said to the king, 'Behold, the king's sons have come; according to your servant's word, so it happened.'

36. അവന് സംസാരിച്ചു തീര്ന്നപ്പോഴെക്കു രാജകുമാരന്മാര് വന്നു ഉറക്കെ കരഞ്ഞു. രാജാവും സകലഭൃത്യന്മാരും വാവിട്ടുകരഞ്ഞു.

36. As soon as he had finished speaking, behold, the king's sons came and lifted their voices and wept; and also the king and all his servants wept very bitterly.

37. എന്നാല് അബ്ശാലോം ഔടിപ്പോയി അമ്മീഹൂദിന്റെ മകനായി ഗെശൂര്രാജാവായ താല്മായിയുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു. ദാവീദോ ഇടവിടാതെ തന്റെ മകനെക്കുറിച്ചു ദുഃഖിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.

37. Now Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. And [David] mourned for his son every day.

38. ഇങ്ങനെ അബ്ശാലോം ഗെശൂരിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോയി മൂന്നു സംവത്സരം അവിടെ താമസിച്ചു.

38. So Absalom had fled and gone to Geshur, and was there three years.

39. എന്നാല് ദാവീദ്രാജാവു അബ്ശാലോമിനെ കാണ്മാന് വാഞ്ഛിച്ചു; മരിച്ചുപോയ അമ്നോനെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ദുഃഖത്തിന്നു ആശ്വാസം വന്നിരുന്നു.

39. [The heart of] King David longed to go out to Absalom; for he was comforted concerning Amnon, since he was dead.
