1. എന്നാല് ബെന്യാമീന്യനായി ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബ എന്നു പേരുള്ള ഒരു നീചന് അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു; അവന് കാഹളം ഊതിദാവീദിങ്കല് നമുക്കു ഔഹരി ഇല്ല; യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകങ്കല് അവകാശവും ഇല്ല; യിസ്രായേലേ നിങ്ങള് വീട്ടിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

1. There happened to be in Gilgal a worthless character named Sheba son of Bikri, of the tribe of Benjamin. He blew the trumpet and called out, 'Down with David! We won't follow him! Men of Israel, let's go home!'

2. അപ്പോള് യിസ്രായേല് ഒക്കെയും ദാവീദിനെ വിട്ടു പിന്മാറി ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയുടെ പക്ഷം ചേര്ന്നു; യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മാരോ യോര്ദ്ദാന് തുടങ്ങി യെരൂശലേംവരെ തങ്ങളുടെ രാജാവിനോടു ചേര്ന്നു നടന്നു.

2. So the Israelites deserted David and went with Sheba, but the men of Judah remained loyal and followed David from the Jordan to Jerusalem.

3. ദാവീദ് യെരൂശലേമില് അരമനയില് എത്തി; അരമന സൂക്ഷിപ്പാന് പാര്പ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന പത്തു വെപ്പാട്ടികളെയും രാജാവു അന്ത:പുരത്തില് ആക്കി രക്ഷിച്ചു എങ്കിലും അവരുടെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നില്ല. അങ്ങനെ അവര് ജീവപര്യന്തം കാവലിലിരുന്നു വൈധവ്യം ആചരിച്ചു.

3. When David arrived at his palace in Jerusalem, he took the ten concubines he had left to take care of the palace, and put them under guard. He provided for their needs, but did not have intercourse with them. They were kept confined for the rest of their lives, living like widows.

4. അനന്തരം രാജാവു അമാസയോടുനീ മൂന്നു ദിവസത്തിന്നകം യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടി അവരുമായി ഇവിടെ വരിക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. The king said to Amasa, 'Call the men of Judah together and be back here with them by the day after tomorrow.'

5. അങ്ങനെ അമാസാ യെഹൂദാപുരുഷന്മരെ വിളിച്ചുകൂട്ടുവാന് പോയി; എന്നാല് കല്പിച്ച അവധിയിലധികം അവന് താമസിച്ചുപോയി.

5. Amasa went to call them, but he did not get back by the time the king had told him to.

6. എന്നാറെ ദാവീദ് അബീശായിയോടുഅബ്ശാലോം ചെയ്തതിനെക്കാളും ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബ ഇപ്പോള് നമുക്കു അധികം ദോഷം ചെയ്യും; അവന് ഉറപ്പുള്ള വല്ല പട്ടണത്തിലും കടന്നു നമ്മുടെ ദൃഷ്ടിയില്നിന്നു തെറ്റിപ്പോകാതാരിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു നീ നിന്റെ യജമാനന്റെ ചേവകരെ കൂട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടു അവനെ പിന്തുടരുക എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

6. So the king said to Abishai, 'Sheba will give us more trouble than Absalom. Take my men and go after him, or else he may occupy some fortified towns and escape from us.'

7. അങ്ങനെ യോവാബിന്റെ ആളുകളും ക്രോത്യരും പ്ളേത്യരും സകലവീരന്മാരും ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയെ പിന്തുടരുവാന് യെരൂശലേമില് നിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

7. So Joab's men, the royal bodyguards, and all the other soldiers left Jerusalem with Abishai to go after Sheba.

8. അവര് ഗിബെയോനിലെ വലിയ പാറയുടെ അടുക്കല് എത്തിയപ്പോള് അമാസാ അവര്ക്കെതിരെ വന്നു. എന്നാല് യോവാബ് ധരിച്ചിരുന്ന പടയങ്കിമേല് ഒരു കച്ചയില് ഉറയോടുകൂടെ ഒരു വാള് അരെക്കു കെട്ടിയിരിന്നു; അവന് നടക്കുമ്പോള് അതു വീണുപോയി.

8. When they reached the large rock at Gibeon, Amasa met them. Joab was dressed for battle, with a sword in its sheath fastened to his belt. As he came forward, the sword fell out.

9. യോവാബ് അമാസയോടുസഹോദരാ, സുഖം തന്നേയോ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു അമാസയെ ചുംബനം ചെയ്വാന് വലത്തുകൈകൊണ്ടു അവന്റെ താടിക്കു പിടിച്ചു.

9. Joab said to Amasa, 'How are you, my friend?' and took hold of his beard with his right hand in order to kiss him.

10. എന്നാല് യോവാബിന്റെ കയ്യില് വാള് ഇരിക്കുന്നതു അമാസാ സൂക്ഷിച്ചില്ല; യോവാബ് അവനെ അതു കൊണ്ടു വയറ്റത്തു കുത്തി കുടല് ചോര്ത്തിക്കളഞ്ഞു; രണ്ടാമതു കുത്തേണ്ടിവന്നില്ല; അവന് മരിച്ചുപോയി. യോവാബും അവന്റെ സഹോദരനായ അബീശായിയും ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയെ പിന്തുടര്ന്നു.

10. Amasa was not on guard against the sword that Joab was holding in his other hand, and Joab stabbed him in the belly, and his insides spilled out on the ground. He died immediately, and Joab did not have to strike again. Then Joab and his brother Abishai went on after Sheba.

11. യോവാബിന്റെ ബാല്യക്കാരില് ഒരുത്തന് അതിന്നരികെ നിന്നുകൊണ്ടു യോവാബിനോടു ഇഷ്ടമുള്ളവനും ദാവീദിന്റെ പക്ഷക്കാരനും യോവാബിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെല്ലട്ടെ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. One of Joab's men stood by Amasa's body and called out, 'Everyone who is for Joab and David follow Joab!'

12. അമാസാ വഴിനടുവില് രക്തത്തില് മുഴുകി കിടന്നതുകൊണ്ടു ജനമൊക്കെയും നിലക്കുന്നു എന്നു കണ്ടിട്ടു അവന് അമാസയെ വഴിയില്നിന്നു വയലിലേക്കു മാറ്റി; അവിടെ എത്തുന്നവനെല്ലാം നിലക്കുന്നു എന്നു കാണ്കകൊണ്ടു അവന് ഒരു വസ്ത്രം അവന്റെമേല് ഇട്ടു.

12. Amasa's body, covered with blood, was lying in the middle of the road. Joab's man saw that everybody was stopping, so he dragged the body from the road out into the field and threw a blanket over it.

13. അവനെ പെരുവഴിയില്നിന്നു മാറ്റിയശേഷം എല്ലാവരും ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയെ പിന്തുടരുവാന് യോവാബിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ പോയി.

13. After the body had been removed from the road, everyone followed Joab in pursuit of Sheba.

14. എന്നാല് ശേബ എല്ലായിസ്രായേല്ഗോത്രങ്ങളിലും കൂടി കടന്നു ആബേലിലും ബേത്ത്-മാഖയിലും എല്ലാബേര്യ്യരുടെ അടുക്കലും ചെന്നു; അവരും ഒന്നിച്ചുകൂടി അവന്റെ പിന്നാലെ ചെന്നു.

14. Sheba passed through the territory of all the tribes of Israel and came to the city of Abel Beth Maacah, and all the members of the clan of Bikri assembled and followed him into the city.

15. മറ്റവര് വന്നു ബേത്ത്-മാഖയോടു ചേര്ന്ന ആബേലില് അവനെ നിരോധിച്ചു പട്ടണത്തിന്നു നേരെ വാടകോരി; അതു കിടങ്ങിന്റെ വക്കത്തായിരുന്നു; യോവാബിനോടുകൂടെയുള്ള എല്ലാ പടജ്ജനവും മതില് തള്ളിയിടുവാന് തക്കവണ്ണം ഇടിച്ചുതുടങ്ങി.

15. Joab's men heard that Sheba was there, and so they went and besieged the city. They built ramps of earth against the outer wall and also began to dig under the wall to make it fall down.

17. അവന് അടുത്തുചെന്നപ്പോള്നീ യോവാബോ എന്നു ആ സ്ത്രീ ചോദിച്ചു. അതേ എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു. അവള് അവനോടുഅടിയന്റെ വാക്കു കേള്ക്കേണമേ എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഞാന് കേള്ക്കാം എന്നു അവന് പറഞ്ഞു.

17. Joab went, and she asked, 'Are you Joab?' 'Yes, I am,' he answered. 'Listen to me, sir,' she said. 'I'm listening,' he answered.

18. എന്നാറെ അവള് ആബേലില് ചെന്നുചോദിക്കേണം എന്നു പണ്ടൊക്കെ പറകയും അങ്ങനെ കാര്യം തീര്ക്കുംകയും ചെയ്ക പതിവായിരുന്നു.

18. She said, 'Long ago they used to say, 'Go and get your answer in the city of Abel'---and that's just what they did.

19. ഞാന് യിസ്രായേലില് സമാധാനവും വിശ്വസ്തതയും ഉള്ളവരില് ഒരുത്തി ആകുന്നു; നീ യിസ്രായേലില് ഒരു പട്ടണത്തെയും ഒരു മാതാവിനെയും നശിപ്പിപ്പാന് നോക്കുന്നു; നീ യഹോവയുടെ അവകാശം മുടിച്ചുകളയുന്നതു എന്തു എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

19. Ours is a great city, one of the most peaceful and loyal in Israel. Why are you trying to destroy it? Do you want to ruin what belongs to the LORD?'

20. അതിന്നു യോവാബ്മുടിച്ചുകളകയോ നശിപ്പിക്കയോ ചെയ്വാന് എനിക്കു ഒരിക്കലും സംഗതിയാകരുതേ.

20. 'Never!' Joab answered. 'I will never ruin or destroy your city!

21. കാര്യം അങ്ങനെയല്ല; ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബ എന്നൊരു എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടുകാരന് ദാവീദ്രാജാവിനോടു മത്സരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; അവനെ ഏല്പിച്ചുതന്നാല് മാത്രം മതി; ഞാന് പട്ടണത്തെ വിട്ടുപോകും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. സ്ത്രീ യോവാബിനോടുഅവന്റെ തല മതിലിന്റെ മുകളില്നിന്നു നിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇട്ടുതരും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

21. That is not our plan. A man named Sheba son of Bikri, who is from the hill country of Ephraim, started a rebellion against King David. Hand over this one man, and I will withdraw from the city.' 'We will throw his head over the wall to you,' she said.

22. അങ്ങനെ സ്ത്രീ ചെന്നു തന്റെ ജ്ഞാനത്താല് സകലജനത്തെയും സമ്മതിപ്പിച്ചു; അവര് ബിക്രിയുടെ മകനായ ശേബയുടെ തല വെട്ടി യോവാബിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ഇട്ടുകൊടുത്തു; അപ്പോള് അവന് കാഹളം ഊതി, എല്ലാവരും പട്ടണം വിട്ടു വീടുകളിലേക്കു പോയി. യോവാബ് യെരൂശലേമില് രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കല് മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

22. Then she went to the people of the city with her plan, and they cut off Sheba's head and threw it over the wall to Joab. He blew the trumpet as a signal for his men to leave the city, and they went back home. And Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

23. യോവാബ് യിസ്രായേല്സൈന്യത്തിന്നൊക്കെയും അധിപതി ആയിരുന്നു; യെഹോയാദായുടെ മകനായ ബെനായാവു ക്രേത്യരുടെയും പ്ളേത്യരുടെയും നായകന് ആയിരുന്നു.

23. Joab was in command of the army of Israel; Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in charge of David's bodyguards;

24. അദോരാം ഊഴിയവേലക്കാര്ക്കും മേല് വിചാരകന് ; അഹിലൂദിന്റെ മകനായ യെഹോശാഫാത്ത് മന്ത്രി;

24. Adoniram was in charge of the forced labor; Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was in charge of the records;

25. ശെവാ രായസക്കാരന് ; സാദോക്കും അബ്യാഥാരും പുരോഹിതന്മാര്.

25. Sheva was the court secretary; Zadok and Abiathar were the priests,

26. യായീര്യ്യനായ ഈരയും ദാവീദിന്റെ പുരോഹിതന് ആയിരുന്നു.

26. and Ira from the town of Jair was also one of David's priests.
