1. രെഹബെയാമിനെ രാജാവാക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും ശെഖേമില് വന്നിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ടു അവനും ശെഖേമില് ചെന്നു.

1. And Rehoboam went to Shechem; for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

2. നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാം മിസ്രയീമില് അതു കേട്ടാറെ ശലോമോന് രാജാവിന്റെ സന്നിധിയില്നിന്നു യൊരോബെയാം മിസ്രയീമില് ഔടിപ്പോയി അവിടെ പാര്ത്തിരിക്കുമ്പോള്

2. And it came to pass when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (now he was yet in Egypt, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;

3. അവര് ആളയച്ചു അവനെ വിളിപ്പിച്ചിരുന്നു--യൊരോബെയാമും യിസ്രായേല്സഭയൊക്കെയും വന്നു രെഹബെയാമിനോടു സംസാരിച്ചു

3. and they sent and called him), that Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

4. നിന്റെ അപ്പന് ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേല് വെച്ചു; നിന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ കഠിനവേലയും അവന് ഞങ്ങളുടെമേല് വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന ഭാരമുള്ള നുകവും നീ ഭാരം കുറെച്ചുതരേണം; എന്നാല് ഞങ്ങള് നിന്നെ സേവിക്കാം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

4. Thy father made our yoke grievous; and now lighten thou the grievous servitude of thy father and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

5. അവന് അവരോടുനിങ്ങള് പോയി മൂന്നു ദിവസം കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടു വീണ്ടും എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വരുവിന് എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അങ്ങനെ ജനം പോയി.

5. And he said to them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

6. രെഹബെയാം രാജാവു തന്റെ അപ്പനായ ശലോമോന്റെ ജീവകാലത്തു അവന്റെ സന്നിധിയില് നിന്നിരുന്ന വൃദ്ധന്മാരോടു ആലോചിച്ചുഈ ജനത്തോടു ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങള് എന്താലോചന പറയുന്നു എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു.

6. And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, How do ye advise to return answer to this people?

7. അതിന്നു അവര് അവനോടുനീ ഇന്നു ഈ ജനത്തിന്നു വഴിപ്പെട്ടു അവരെ സേവിച്ചു അവരോടു നല്ലവാക്കു പറഞ്ഞാല് അവര് എന്നും നിനക്കു ദാസന്മാരായിരിക്കും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

7. And they spoke to him saying, If this day thou wilt be a servant to this people, and wilt serve them and answer them and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

8. എന്നാല് വൃദ്ധന്മാര് തന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ആലോചന അവന് ത്യജിച്ചു, തന്നോടുകൂടെ വളര്ന്നവരായി തന്റെ മുമ്പില് നിലക്കുന്ന യൌവ്വനക്കാരോടു ആലോചിച്ചു

8. But he forsook the advice of the old men which they had given him, and consulted with the young men, who had grown up with him, that stood before him.

9. നിന്റെ അപ്പന് ഞങ്ങളുടെ മേല് വെച്ചിരിക്കുന്ന നുകം ഭാരം കുറെച്ചു തരേണം എന്നിങ്ങനെ എന്നോടു സംസാരിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള ഈ ജനത്തോടു നാം ഉത്തരം പറയേണ്ടതിന്നു നിങ്ങള് എന്താലോചന പറയുന്നു എന്നു അവരോടു ചോദിച്ചു.

9. And he said to them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people who have spoken to me saying, Lighten the yoke which thy father put upon us?

10. അവനോടുകൂടെ വളര്ന്നിരുന്ന യൌവ്വനക്കാര് അവനോടുനിന്റെ അപ്പന് ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം ഞങ്ങളുടെമേല് വെച്ചു; നീ അതു ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു ഭാരം കുറെച്ചുതരേണമെന്നു നിന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ഈ ജനത്തോടുഎന്റെ ചെറുവിരല് എന്റെ അപ്പന്റെ അരയെക്കാള് വണ്ണമുള്ളതായിരിക്കും.

10. And the young men that had grown up with him spoke to him saying, Thus shalt thou say to this people that have spoken to thee saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, and lighten thou it for us, -- thus shalt thou say to them: My little [finger] is thicker than my father's loins;

11. എന്റെ അപ്പന് നിങ്ങളുടെമേല് ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം വെച്ചിരിക്കെ ഞാന് നിങ്ങളുടെ നുകത്തിന്നു ഭാരം കൂട്ടും; എന്റെ അപ്പന് നിങ്ങളെ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാനോ തേളുകളെക്കൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും എന്നിങ്ങനെ നീ ഉത്തരം പറയേണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

11. and whereas my father laid a heavy yoke upon you, *I* will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but *I* will chastise you with scorpions.

12. മൂന്നാം ദിവസം എന്റെ അടുക്കല് വീണ്ടും വരുവിന് എന്നു രാജാവു പറഞ്ഞതുപോലെ യൊരോബെയാമും സകലജനവും മൂന്നാം ദിവസം രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ അടുക്കല് ചെന്നു.

12. And Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed saying, Come again to me on the third day.

13. എന്നാല് രാജാവു ജനത്തോടു കഠിനമായി ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു; വൃദ്ധന്മാര് തന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞ ആലോചനയെ അവന് ത്യജിച്ചു.

13. And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the advice of the old men which they had given him;

14. യൌവ്വനക്കാരുടെ ആലോചനപോലെ അവരോടുഎന്റെ അപ്പന് ഭാരമുള്ള നുകം നിങ്ങളുടെമേല് വെച്ചു; ഞാനോ നിങ്ങളുടെ നുകത്തിന്നു ഭാരം കൂട്ടും; എന്റെ അപ്പന് നിങ്ങളെ ചമ്മട്ടികൊണ്ടു ദണ്ഡിപ്പിച്ചു; ഞാനോ തേളുകളെക്കൊണ്ടു നിങ്ങളെ ദണ്ഡിപ്പിക്കും എന്നു ഉത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു.

14. and he spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but *I* will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but *I* will chastise you with scorpions.

15. ഇങ്ങനെ രാജാവു ജനത്തിന്റെ അപേക്ഷ കേട്ടില്ല; യഹോവ ശിലോന്യനായ അഹിയാവുമുഖാന്തരം നെബാത്തിന്റെ മകനായ യൊരോബെയാമിനോടു അരുളിച്ചെയ്ത വചനം നിവൃത്തിയാകേണ്ടതിന്നു ഈ കാര്യം യഹോവയുടെ ഹിതത്താല് സംഭവിച്ചു.

15. So the king hearkened not to the people; for it was brought about by Jehovah, that he might give effect to his word, which Jehovah spoke through Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16. രാജാവു തങ്ങളുടെ അപേക്ഷ കേള്ക്കയില്ലെന്നു എല്ലായിസ്രായേലും കണ്ടപ്പോള് ജനം രാജാവിനോടുദാവീദിങ്കല് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു എന്തു ഔഹരി ഉള്ളു? യിശ്ശായിയുടെ മകങ്കല് ഞങ്ങള്ക്കു അവകാശമില്ലല്ലോ; യിസ്രായേലേ, നിങ്ങളുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങളിലേക്കു പൊയ്ക്കൊള്വിന് ; ദാവീദേ, നിന്റെ ഗൃഹം നോക്കിക്കൊള്ക എന്നുത്തരം പറഞ്ഞു, യിസ്രായേല് തങ്ങളുടെ കൂടാരങ്ങളിലേക്കു പോയി.

16. And all Israel saw that the king hearkened not to them; and the people answered the king saying, What portion have we in David? And [we have] no inheritance in the son of Jesse: To your tents, O Israel! Now see to thine own house, David! And Israel went to their tents.

17. യെഹൂദാനഗരങ്ങളില് പാര്ത്തിരുന്ന യിസ്രായേല്യര്ക്കോ രെഹബെയാം രാജാവായ്തീര്ന്നു.

17. But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18. പിന്നെ രെഹബെയാംരാജാവു ഊഴിയവേലെക്കു മേല്വിചാരകനായ അദോരാമിനെ അയച്ചു; എന്നാല് യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും അവനെ കല്ലെറിഞ്ഞു കൊന്നുകളഞ്ഞു; രെഹബെയാംരാജാവോ വേഗത്തില് രഥം കയറി യെരൂശലേമിലേക്കു ഔടിപ്പോന്നു.

18. And king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the levy; but all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. And king Rehoboam hastened to mount his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19. ഇങ്ങനെ യിസ്രായേല് ഇന്നുവരെ ദാവീദ് ഗൃഹത്തോടു മതസരിച്ചു നിലക്കുന്നു.

19. And Israel rebelled against the house of David, unto this day.

20. യൊരോബെയാം മടങ്ങിവന്നു എന്നു യിസ്രായേലൊക്കെയും കേട്ടപ്പോള് അവര് ആളയച്ചു അവനെ സഭയിലേക്കു വിളിപ്പിച്ചു അവനെ എല്ലായിസ്രായേലിന്നും രാജാവാക്കി; യെഹൂദാഗോത്രം മാത്രം അല്ലാതെ മറ്റാരും ദാവീദ് ഗൃഹത്തിന്റെ പക്ഷം ചേര്ന്നില്ല.

20. And it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had come back, that they sent and called him to the assembly, and made him king over all Israel: none followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

21. രെഹബെയാം യെരൂശലേമില് വന്നശേഷം യിസ്രായേല്ഗൃഹത്തോടു യുദ്ധംചെയ്തു രാജത്വം ശലോമോന്റെ മകനായ രെഹബെയാമിന്നു വീണ്ടുകൊള്ളേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് യെഹൂദാഗൃഹം മുഴുവനിലും ബെന്യാമീന്റെ ഗോത്രത്തിലുംനിന്നു ശ്രേഷ്ഠയോദ്ധാക്കളായ ഒരു ലക്ഷത്തെണ്പതിനായിരംപേരെ ശേഖരിച്ചു.

21. And Rehoboam came to Jerusalem; and he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men apt for war, to fight against the house of Israel, that he might bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

22. എന്നാല് ദൈവപുരുഷനായ ശെമയ്യാവിന്നു ദൈവത്തിന്റെ അരുളപ്പാടുണ്ടായതെന്തെന്നാല്

22. But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

23. നീ ശലോമോന്റെ മകനായി യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ രെഹബെയാമിനോടും യെഹൂദയുടെയും ബെന്യാമീന്റെയും സകലഗൃഹത്തോടും ശേഷം ജനത്തോടും പറക; നിങ്ങള് പുറപ്പെടരുതു;

23. Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remainder of the people, saying,

24. നിങ്ങളുടെ സഹോദരന്മാരായ യിസ്രായേല്മക്കളോടു യുദ്ധം ചെയ്കയുമരുതു; ഔരോരുത്തന് താന്താന്റെ വീട്ടിലേക്കു മടങ്ങിപ്പോകുവിന് ; ഈ കാര്യം എന്റെ ഹിതത്താല് ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നിപ്രകാരം യഹോവ അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു. അവര് യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു അനുസരിച്ചു യഹോവയുടെ കല്പനപ്രകാരം മടങ്ങിപ്പോയി.

24. Thus saith Jehovah: Go not up, nor fight with your brethren, the children of Israel; return every man to his house, for this thing is from me. And they hearkened to the word of Jehovah, and returned to depart, according to the word of Jehovah.

25. അനന്തരം യൊരോബെയാം എഫ്രയീംമലനാട്ടില് ശെഖേം പണിതു അവിടെ പാര്ത്തു. അവന് അവിടെനിന്നു പുറപ്പെട്ടു പെനൂവേലും പണിതു.

25. And Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

26. എന്നാല് യൊരോബെയാം തന്റെ മനസ്സില്രാജത്വം വീണ്ടും ദാവീദ്ഗൃഹത്തിന്നു ആയിപ്പോകും;

26. And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David.

27. ഈ ജനം യെരൂശലേമില് യഹോവയുടെ ആലയത്തില് യാഗം കഴിപ്പാന് ചെന്നാല് ഈ ജനത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയം യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ രെഹബെയാം എന്ന തങ്ങളുടെ യജമാനങ്കലേക്കു തിരികയും അവര് എന്നെ കൊന്നു യെഹൂദാരാജാവായ രെഹബെയാമിന്റെ പക്ഷം ചേരുകയും ചെയ്യും എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.

27. If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem, the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, to Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.

28. ആകയാല് രാജാവു ആലോചിച്ചു പൊന്നുകൊണ്ടു രണ്ടു കാളകൂട്ടിയെ ഉണ്ടാക്കി; നിങ്ങള് യെരൂശലേമില് പോയതു മതി; യിസ്രായേലേ, ഇതാ നിന്നെ മിസ്രയീംദേശത്തുനിന്നു കൊണ്ടുവന്ന നിന്റെ ദൈവം എന്നു അവരോടു പറഞ്ഞു.

28. And the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold. And he said to them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt!

29. അവന് ഒന്നിനെ ബേഥേലിലും മറ്റേതിനെ ദാനിലും പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചു.

29. And he set the one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

30. ഈ കാര്യം പാപഹേതുവായിത്തീര്ന്നു; ജനം ഒന്നിന്റെ മുമ്പില് നമസ്കരിപ്പാന് ദാന് വരെ ചെന്നു.

30. And this thing became a sin; and the people went [to worship] before the one, as far as Dan.

31. അവന് പൂജാഗിരിക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാക്കി സര്വ്വജനത്തില്നിന്നും ലേവ്യരല്ലാത്തവരെ പുരോഹിതന്മാരായി നിയമിച്ചു.

31. And he made a house of high places, and made priests from all classes of the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

32. യെഹൂദയില് ആചരിച്ചുവന്ന ഉത്സവംപോലെ യൊരോബെയാം എട്ടാം മാസം പതിനഞ്ചാം തിയ്യതി ഒരു ഉത്സവം നിശ്ചയിച്ചു യാഗപീഠത്തിങ്കല് ചെന്നു; താന് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ കാളകൂട്ടികള്ക്കു യാഗം കഴിക്കേണ്ടതിന്നു അവന് ബേഥേലിലും അങ്ങനെ തന്നേ ചെയ്തു; താന് നിയമിച്ച പൂജാഗിരിപുരോഹിതന്മാരെ അവന് ബേഥേലില് ആക്കി.

32. And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that was in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made; and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.

33. അവന് സ്വമേധയായി നിശ്ചയിച്ച എട്ടാം മാസം പതിനഞ്ചാം തിയ്യതി താന് ബേഥേലില് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ യാഗപീഠത്തിങ്കല് ചെന്നു യിസ്രായേല്മക്കള്ക്കു ഒരു ഉത്സവം നിയമിച്ചു, പീഠത്തിന്നരികെ ചെന്നു ധൂപം കാട്ടി.

33. And he offered upon the altar that he had made in Bethel, on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and he made a feast for the children of Israel, and he offered upon the altar, burning incense.
